  1. If you want one, reply Yes I have 31 to give away, so the first 31 people to reply Yes get one each . . . . _______ (Someone suggested, wisely, that I check whether I'm allowed to give these away, so I asked Yurt Rock, and I received an email today with the go-ahead) Trying to start the new year on a generous note I bought The Ultimate Bundle yesterday, which leaves me with 31 duplicate products I've never used I'll use a random-number generator to decide who gets which item I was going to post a list of what I have and let people ask for what they wanted, but there was the risk of ending up with one happy person and everyone else frustrated I figure if I send you one you don't like you can offer to trade it with someone in a similar situation I'm trusting everyone to play fair and not post or share files; if you get an item, it's for your use and yours alone (or you can trade it without using it) We've always seemed an honorable bunch; let's live up to that rep Happy '24

  5. One more thing Bitwig and I seem to have a disagreement on... They seem to think a DAW should be a modular environment. They are proud of every little component and modulator they add. I want a DAW to make it easier to get compositions. I think the main point of the DAW is to help me get compositions onto drive quickly and let my plugins worry about making sounds.
    5 points
  6. There are a lot of things about Bitwig that are insanely unintuitive. For example, I don't think anyone who's ever used Bitwig has figured out how to do tap tempo on their own. (Worse, it was not in the manual) Even more annoying to me is that they don't have the ability to preview midi clips to the current track. You can preview a midi clip but it will only go to a sine wave generator. This is kind of useless when trying to preview drum clips because instead of getting drum sounds you get meaningless atonal notes (at least they are in the pocket), Other than issues like those, it does a decent job of filling in the place in my workflow where Project 5 used to be. There are a few other things I like, such as how they handle instrument and FX chains and the ability to have these taggable is a big plus.

  9. That's exactly the problem. Why in God's Name are you using that instead of Focusrite's own ASIO driver?
    3 points
  10. Don't use ASIO4ALL - use the official Focusrite Scarlett driver. I've got a 12 year old machine (Intel i7 3770), and I can run at a buffer size of 64 on most projects without any issues. Only very occasionally will I need to increase the buffer size to 128 or 256.

  11. The developer has been very nice in my experience. The libraries are okay, not great. They aren't detailed (deep) sampled libraries, ftr. Just a heads up, they're based in Lenningrad, Russia, so a good deal of credit cards and credit services won't work there. Amongst them are Visa, Mastercard. American Express, and PayPal https://www.americanbanker.com/payments/list/these-payment-companies-are-cutting-off-russia

  12. I think this is great. It makes me not want to buy anything cheap, that I probably won't use, to get something for "free" that I will also most likely not use.

  13. the challenge with the gain control to shift volume on an automated track (presuming overall level change) is the impact on effects or other gain staging impacts (over / under drive - undesirable clipping / loss of the saturation effect). so, for large overall change -> use offset mode, for small spot changes -> more automation envelope edits 🙂 use the clip gain envelope as a "pre-compressor / expander / de-esser" function (etc) to get the consistency on the clip levels.

  14. is this for live performances or recording? if recording, the advantage of 6 separate channels would be to create multiple instruments (like string section) to perform the "chord" or small runs integral to the piece, and keeping it all in sync without "overdub". i'd probably go with option 1 - simpler and cleaner. i've done some recording (and some live stuff) with people using expensive guitar MIDI gear - and ultimately, when recording, the challenge is getting a clean MIDI performance (even folks with great touch) to avoid errant notes. most times, we're simply resorted to using the guitar audio and Melodyne to clean up and convert, then split as needed across tracks. live performance - most times you're outputting audio for the audience so the synths (yes, a number of people use several chained and i guess the VSL could do that as well) to get the full set of sounds -- but it requires lots of prep to get all modules and program switching etc setup (and the DAW can help or using other programs to coordinate). will be curious to see what other folks have experienced.

  18. Now I see why you tagged me in a thread from 2022. My experience is exactly same as @msmcleod I have a Godin and the GR50 which tracks really well live. Only downside is you are stuck with the GR50 sounds which is limited. I even have a bunch of expansion cards but it’s very clunky to navigate the menus. Connection using the midi results in about 15- 20 ms of latency so it’s useless for live triggers of anything else. Most definitely much easier to just use Melodyne of which I just upgraded to the Studio version to get full chords. It’s still far from perfect but the results are much less editing than midi input from the GR50. I’ve never set up the individual channels before but that might be fun to try . It might make less of a mess in PRV. But it’s really hard to Quantize material that is that far off . Especially when the low notes are delayed by almost 3x what the hi notes are. Another good reason to practice your keyboard chops.

  19. If you are trying to use the VST3 version, copy it into the "Common Files\VST3" main folder and rerun the VST scan. IIRC, it won't run from the "BBC Symphony Orchestra XXX (64 Bit).vst3" subfolder that is created when you install it.

  20. For those of you who are considering PB freebies, I highly recommend pedals from this bundle (also available individually). These are high quality Marshall pedal emulations. https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/81-Bundles/39-Effects-Bundles/7810-The-British-Tanks-Collection They also stack exceptionally well, which is not always true for real pedals and nearly non-existent in the digital realm.

  24. Am I missing something? The Acoustic Bundle which contains the Guitar Strum and the Ukelele is selling for $35, but individually, the Guitar Strum is selling for $15, and the Ukelele is selling for $12? There's certainly savings when compared to full price, but not during the sale.

  30. thanks for reply, however don't you think that after one year of waiting (the earlier update was of november 2022) + four months of waiting due to this activation problem, it's now time to do something and finally put the resolution of the problem at the top of the priority list? I understand the interest in the development of the new products but you have suddenly disabled the option and too much time passed without being restored.

  32. Hi all. This songs has two parts. The parts are the same song presented two different ways, each about 3 minutes long. The first part is "Life" which is a straight forward, band-type version. I used Arturia's new, free VST (until January 4, 2024 I think) Efx Refract on the bass and the electric piano. The second part is called "Afterlife" which I posted here a few months ago as a piece called "Life" (ridiculous, I know....sorry....) which is just a syncopated, improvised on the piano roll piano and percussion version. 35. ^^^ This I've used both the Roland GI-10 (the GI-20's predecessor) and JamOrigin MIDI Guitar 2. Both aren't great for latency - especially in the lower notes. I was impressed that JamOrigin performed at least as good as the GI-10. The GI-20 may be better, but physics will always get in the way with the low notes. You do get used to it, but be prepared to alter your playing style accordingly - i.e. anticipating the notes as required. I've never used either live, but I'd be tempted to use an old multi-timbral sound module rather than a VSTi, which would add yet more latency. For recording, I've found it much easier to just record the guitar and use Melodyne to convert to MIDI - tweaking the EQ as required to get the best Audio to MIDI conversion. I guess if I practiced enough with the GI-10, it might prove a better solution, but I use it far too rarely to warrant the effort.

  38. Yeah, these lists, it seems like there are always some DAW's left out. It doesn't signify anything to me other than that one person who made a list forgot about them when making it. Some of the ones also missing from this survey: Samplitude, Waveform, Mixcraft, Mixbus, Music Maker, Nuendo, Cubasis (iPad), and BandLab (iPad, Android, browser). Mixbus, Waveform and Nuendo all have MacOS builds, too. MAGIX at one point were claiming that Music Maker was the most widely used DAW in Europe. This comes up in "compatibility" lists as well. Someone's always left off the list, probably ones that the company's QA team doesn't specifically test with pre-release, but they usually also say "any VST-compatible host." If a plug-in chokes Cakewalk, report it to both companies and they'll usually work it out. And if they really test their products on that wide a range of hosts, chances are very good that it and Cakewalk will play nicely together. Something that Cakewalk (as a subsidiary of BandLab Technologies) no longer has is a marketing dept. to stay in touch with other manufacturers and keep the product toward the front of their minds. Maybe some of the marketing people at other audio software companies are even stuck in "Cakewalk went out of business." but who knows how the product is generally viewed. Surely none of them follow the fortunes of Cakewalk/BandLab as closely as we do. I've not witnessed snobbery toward CbB (other than the "I switched to DAW X and never looked back" that all DAW's get) in plug-in companies' support forums.
