  2. Well, I finished it... a huge amount of work that may benefit 3 or 4 people on Earth 😋 This can replace the original Tascam provided plug-in. It supports WAI and ACT, and has a much cooler UI! ACT Mode allows you to assign the 8 Strip Faders and 8 Strip Rotaries to ACT enabled controls in CbB. The 3 Rotaries and 4 Buttons in the EQ section can be toggled between full-time ACT controls or dedicated ProChannel EQ controls. The UI Control labels will update according to the Surface Mode and/or the plugin currently being controlled. Almost all of the buttons on the left side of the surface can be assigned a CbB command by right-clicking the button. ALT/CMD, SHIFT, and CTRL cannot be re-assigned. I've put a paltry set of instructions on the website (and in the included ReadMe file). Hopefully it's reasonably intuitive to use. I didn't implement some of the functionality of the original plug-in because it was either outdated, or because it was something I never used 😁 I'll still be making a few changes to it in the future, so if there's something you (3 or 4 people) want implemented, let me know. Let me know if you decide to try it. If you have any problems or questions, posting them here will probably get a quicker response than using the Viramor forum (nobody uses that thing 😜) You can download it here.

  5. Kids these days, man... I'm embarassed to say that I've been playing guitar for almost 40 years. I was watching Tim Henson the other day when he popped up in my feed for an Ernbie Ball add. Make what you will of his "boomer bend" remark, but he is an amazing guitarist. I don't really like what he plays, and I like to think that it's not that I'm too illiterate or too old, but still - the kid's amazing. Same with a lot of those young people posting reels on Instagram. I guess it's normal for certain human abilities to improve from generation to generation, but I feel the gap here is quite fantastic. Of course there's always a bunch of geezers putting them down and telling them they have no feel, but, having grown up in the 80's with Malmsteen and all those guys, that's nothing new.

  17. I'm sure that Cherry Audio leverages the common DSP code that they have already created, as it applies to solve a needed function (as do all developers). But Dan Goldstein, their lead developer based in Las Vegas, also owns the largest hardware synth collection in Nevada. The team is able to study and compare each synth's operation in detail as they attempt to emulate it. They painstakingly attempt to model the functions of the real deal, as much as possible. I think that they are improving their process with each iteration as they learn what works best. I don't buy that Cherry Audio is just repackaging the same modules with a different GUI. That is just an unfounded claim that some internet critics use to justify the opinion that there's otherwise no way that Cherry Audio could release so many synth emulations in such a short time frame. Here's an interview with Dan, regarding his synth collection and the recent release of the Cherry Audio Elka-X (Synthex).

  21. Suggestion: Somebody should compile the feature requests here and make a post over in the "Feedback Loop" forum where it will more likely be seen by the developers. This here is a Q&A forum about instruments and effects, and not likely to make it to the their attention... https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/8-feedback-loop/ "Provide feedback on features, ideas and requests for future releases of Cakewalk by BandLab" Here's the current list of PRV related feature requests over there... https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/search/&q=prv&type=forums_topic&nodes=8&updated_after=any&sortby=newest

  24. Drum/Keyboard module processing time (physical impact till MIDI is generated) can be ms or so. And there is no guarantee MIDI(USB or own) output is sent at the same time/before/after module sound generator get the event. So comparing Mic on pad with audio from module output is just a measure of module impact to sound latency, which is not bound to MIDI latency. Audio buffer size contribute to the "jitter" of MIDI to VST output latency. If the interface is used for MIDI and audio, I have a feeling the jitter is smaller since the interface knows time relation between both inputs. "Real hardware MIDI 1" transfer speed (throughput) is ~1ms per note. For drums that is less significant then for keyboard (we have more then one finger per hand). USB quantization contribute as most into transfer latency (there is almost no difference to transfer 1 or 100 notes, the delay till the "packet" is sent dominates). In that respect USB 1 is way worse then 2 (throughput of USB 1 is sufficient). So in practice hardware MIDI connection + audio interface with MIDI may have lower latency then device own USB connection. For interfaces there is MIDI loopback test utility (like RTL for audio), I remember with RME I had something around 2-3ms while cheap "MIDI to USB adapter" had more then 10ms. My Kawai connected throw RME with MIDI had lower latency then own USB ( I don't remember the results of the test with my Roland drums). For me MIDI latency starts to be boring in case it goes "crazy" only. That has happened several times, for some reason some (not all!) MIDI devices start to get latency over 30-40ms. Not DAW/audio interface/audio buffer dependent. Disappears with Windows restart... I still have no idea from where that comes. Note that most MIDI devices normally "imitate" instruments with "natural" acoustic latency (unlike f.e. singing, guitar, flute, etc., I mean something with rather short or even fixed distance from the "sound generator" to our "sound sensors"). Just using headphones compensates 3-5ms latency.

  26. It doesn't currently, and it would be a cool idea, but I'm sure someone has mentioned the workaround being just use Aux tracks instead of busses and throw them all into their own folder and respective subfolders.

  27. If you mean "doesn't work" then that's a big problem, but if you mean you can't put it in to the Pro Channel, what you'd do is insert an FX Chain module and load the Channel Tools into there. Super useful module! If you're willing to share the project, maybe someone could have a look at it and see what's going on?

  30. I definitely understand “if it ain’t broke,” but the truth of the matter is that there is a tradeoff. The longer you wait, the more painful the transition will be, and the greater the likelihood of running into trouble, and the greater the potential of that trouble will be annoying. Windows 10 has been around long enough that it’s clear that it’s a safe upgrade from 7. And I have found that in every case, even the aforementioned Core 2 system with 4G of RAM, 10 ran better. Of course it was initially on the despised Vista, but Vista wasn’t all that different from 7 once they ironed out the issues. Cakewalk itself is no longer tested on or guaranteed to work with Windows 7. When the devs announced that years ago, that was my tipping point. There are many hidden benefits to doing a new system build. Not insignificant, you’ll weed out a TON of software you’re not using. I posted a topic in the Computer Systems sub about doing a new build and what I ran into, good and bad. One thing to be aware of is that Windows 10, when first installed, takes about 24 hours to settle down. Somehow it analyzes your system and fine tunes itself. There’s a lot of communication with Microsoft’s servers. So if you do anything heavy with it in the first day or so, it may look like performance is degraded. Yeah, machine-dependent authorizations are a pain in the cases where you must contact the manufacturer once you get past a certain number of authorizations. Plugin Alliance has a good system, all you have to do is go to their website and deauthorize your previous system. WA Production is one of the ones you must contact after you run out of authorizations.

  31. A few things I can think of. Open the project by browsing to your storage drive and opening it using the CWP icon inside the projects folder. Personally I would never trust that Clean Audio Folder Utility It might have been what caused this. And when you used "save as" if you somehow didn't Check the "copy all audio with project" box this could also happen to the new version. It might be too late but here's a few ways to stop this in the future. If you are re doing tracks -Always rename them with a system . Like " Guitar lead Feb 24" Sounds dumb but it sure makes it easy to look in the audio folder for the track you want. Always name tracks BEFORE you record them so they will be stamped. They are also date stamped. When I'm closed to finished a project I make a "save as" copy with date in the name. I open it and then I export all the audio tracks as stems 48/32 bit no dither, no effects. I then delete all the originals which are probably broken up into a zillion clips and replace those with the stems by dragging from the export folder as complete tracks end to end. I then close the project and delete all the audio files except for the stems which will have different names or I could use the date. Now that back up copy is nice and tidy, way smaller in file size as well as could be easily transferred to another DAW. I also back them up as Midi files.

  33. @freddy j @timboalogo @Miguel Carzola Thanks So much for the listen and comments , I Really appreciate it ! @PhonoBrainer Those were wonderful compliments , this song was truly from the heart. I too am hearing "something" on both mixes posted at 1:13. I think it's a stray vocal delay coming in at a strange spot. I'll look for it pretty close in the project. Thanks for that .. I thought for sure it had slid away .. mark

  37. Yep, native UAD will make ‘em bleed. Some other (major) alternatives: - FabFilter (Total Bundle) - SlateDigital (VMR Rack) but I’d sorely miss my Waves Abbey Road Collection. And maybe those recently refreshed Renaissance plugins. Plus some of the named ones, like Greg Wells and rage beardy Schepps guy.

  38. What are some your guys’ fave Waves alternatives? Although I just recently heavily invested in Waves plugins, I’m sick of their BS and want to support the other guys. Here are my favorite Waves alternatives: - Melda (free updates for life? Yes, please!) - UAD (Perfect timing for them to go native) - AIR (surprisingly good!) - Softube (just pure quality plugins!) - D16 (creative goodness!) - Audio Damage (secret sauce!)

  41. Indeed, still have some serials for bundles like the Abbey Riad Collection and Pianos & Keys. I was going to use them when a new MacOS would force me to (as I don’t WUP). So now this. It’s illegal in the US and Europe, but I wonder whether it’s illegal in Israel where they’re based.

  42. @fossile the actual issue isnt related to pan law. When you bounce with source category clips, it's running each selected clip through the entire signal flow and captures the "as heard" sound. However, when it encounters a mono clip with channel format mono (or follow source), the clip gets upconverted to stereo at the end of the bounce signal path and then it gets converted back to mono when writing the file. this is where the 3db gain comes into play. I've fixed this by compensating for it for the next version.
