  1. I spent the last 2 days totally confused as to why Cakewalk would not start. Many of you gave great instructions to solve the problem, but nothing worked. Finally, I had to call on Noel. He got under the hood and discovered the ACT controller was corrupt and would not let Cakewalk open. He pulled a rabbit out of his hat and now my world is a much better place. I owe him a great deal of thanks. Cheers to Noel! Michael

  2. Note that the $5 coupon code APD-NWVBBYY9-5-OFF that was posted earlier by Leok85 can still be used in addition to the current promotion (although I got a message noting that the minimum purchase is $50). E.g., Note as well that the Unlimited MIDI Bundle comes with $125 in vouchers (Look in the "bonus" folder for each of the 5 midi collections, each has a $25 voucher, no minimum purchase necessary but there are restrictions on what's eligible, e.g., not applicable to discounted bundles) Additionally, since getting Ghosthack UPB2021 from APD doesn't give you the product directly (it gives a voucher that you then use to buy at Ghosthack's website), the purchase qualifies for the current "Buy One, get one 50% off" promotion, and e.g., you can get UPB2022 for $40, a good deal if you are interested in these kinds of libraries

  5. At present, the only way to open Skylight panels is to either click on a rather tiny button or a keystroke. It occurs to me that there's a much larger target, the bars at the edges. I'd love to be able to double-click on them to open the panels. It would save a lot of mouse hunting and make the program feel more slick. This would especially help me (and others) when working on a laptop with a 14" screen.

SkyNet Reverb is geared towards massive soundscapes with long decay times. By blending the two SkyNet algorithms, you can sculpt atmospheric sounds which fit your music best.

  11. It seems that there is limited space on forum posts for image attachments in messages. I was looking for a solution and ran across this website: https://postimages.org/ I had been using IMGUR but it was a little confusing to me on how to place the images into the forum posts. Check it out. I have been using it here recently and it seems to be fine. Joyfully, Simeon

  13. Inside my version of Acid Pro 9 It is showing up over here as an upgrade for $99 .00 .... That seems reasonable considering some DAW companies are more than happy to throw the Upgrade price book at you if you miss a paid upgrade or two .... Now as far as the 2 grand plus price I think they are just trying to create a market value based on some of the products they are throwing in as perks ... Many of them were rather pricey back before Magix started adding them in to entice and acquire more customers ... Example ...I paid around 2 bills for the full version of Vandal back in the day and to be quite honest I was happy with what I got ...they are throwing that one in the full version of Acid Pro and they have been for some time ... Then when you add up the Independence full and all the plug in suites as list prices I guess that is how they are getting close to that 2 grand figure ... To take it over to there to that "price figure " I suppose when you add in Izotope ( the version they offer ) Melodyne and some of the Brainworks stuff ...it may appear very close to their Magic 2 grand number .... FWIW I still happen to like the program very much even in today's modern times ...PS as I have mentioned I'm on Acid Pro 9 . In addition to creating music from scratch I have used Acid Pro to transcribe music and I have created unique teaching aids for getting better at the guitar . The workflow and what can be accomplished using Acid Pro lends itself rather well for sound design and creating music for film .. Even though Acid Pro is not a full fledged Film editor it features an easy work flow for creating film music and has for some time ... Hey if you don't believe me try creating film music in side Ableton Live only or Cakewalk only where you monitor the video inside these wonderful DAW programs and see how far you get 😉 Easy Peasy inside Acid .... Acid Pro might not be the newest slickest DAW on the block these days but hey to each his own I say ...If you happen to find something you like cool keep on using it ...if not don't worry keep on looking and if your lucky you may go from being a seeker to becoming a finder ... Peace out Kenny

  18. For the record. I connected to Michael's PC via teamviewer and resolved it. ActController was crashing on startup for some reason (likely the act data got messed up when he had the Nanocontrol) I found the crash by launching Cakewalk inside windebug which showed the crash site. Then I renamed his actcontroller dll and Cakewalk immediately started up. After that I removed it from preferences control surfaces, renamed the dll back and added it back to surfaces. Its working fine for him now. Windebug is the best tool to troubleshoot issues like this when the app is not launching or poofing because it will always show the reason for the exit.

  25. PASS. UAD has some great stuff but AFAIC (as someone who has several thousand plugins) their native plugins have arrived too late to the party; IMHO the substantial cost of adding their plugins to my library to replace similar items isn't worth the marginal gains I might obtain. If UAD's native plugins had arrived 5 or more years earlier then I'd probably own their stuff instead of <fill in the da blank> but alas... Apologies for the Anti-GAS vibe.

  26. Hi Simeon, Great video Hi Simeon, A real joy to see you back at work. I have used HALion a lot over the years and there is no limit to the number of layers aside to the system requirements of the instrument and the resources of your computer. I would suspect that it works with multiple threads, because you can't layer up with Falcon (IMHO the most similar instrument. Using Flex Phrasers I would do layers like a bass part, drums, piano and guitars. You should check this out You might want to show how they can be incorporated to theses instruments in future videos. . (I haven't watched your FM lab video yet.) Basically they are super-duper arpegiattors which take their technology from the Motif. They can be played with one finger, or if you can play--and you sure can!--the results can be amazing, very similar to what you get from ujam pianos. Where it gets interesting is when you layer instruments with different flex phrases. I did a video on this little-known feature once. Check out the Flamenco Flex Phraser at around 7:40 This is one of the worst videos I ever did, but it is also one of my most popular, just because many people are curious about how to use them. I wonder if this new version of HALion makes it easier. Sadly, Yamaha/Steinberg has expressed no interest in adding more content.

  28. The abundance in the market of Hammond B3 emulations makes my head spin. I still use the venerable VB3 1.4 for rock organ just because it sits in a live mix well and I know it. I bought VB3 II and the AmpliTube Leslie around the same time and used that combination for a while. One drawback for that combination is CPU load is the highest. Blue3 comes with better range of presets (especially for rock covers) and has more tonewheel generator customization. Some people thought it was a little harsh on the high end, but I think that's fixed now. Then IK released B-3X and I settled on it for live band use and practicing. Sounds great and is simple to use. I think it is the logical successor to VB3 1.4 I bought Acouticsamples B5 v3 because it sounds the most real when played by itself. Its Leslie emulation is very good also. I play rock covers and also spend a lot of time jamming by myself in B3 trio mode using Jamstix for my drummer.

  31. Long-requested feature, one that I'd love to be able to use. There are so many situations where I would like to layer multiple synths, easily switch back and forth to audition, etc. I'm well familiar with the (time and effort consuming) workarounds.

  32. Yes I use OBS studio for screen capture. The ticket for me was to purchase an audio interface with Loopback capabilities. This way I can have Cakewalk, OBS and Win Amp all open as well If I wanted to I could speak live into my mike. Then I bought a Movie editor I could figure out without to much trouble. Movie Studio Platinum 17 which I paid only $30 for a few years ago. I use Win Amp because it stops after each track finishes. I set OBS audio input to Motu loopback Mix. it will record everything played on my computers sound system, and in ASIO mode too. To set the levels of each source you need to do that from within the software playing the sound. It took a bit to sort out a smooth system but here is what works for me. I write out a script and I pre record my narration in Cakewalk as 16 to 30 separate tracks. Nothing is over 30 seconds long. I export these as 48 mHz at 24 bit wave files and drop them into Win Amp. Using 48 mHz is the ticket if you do any video work. Keep your whole system there if you can. I open OBS on my second monitor and then a Cakewalk project as my movie set in the main monitor. Try to remember to use F11 to go full screen. I use Cakewalks master volume to balance between my narration and any demonstration music or sounds coming from Cakewalk. OBS can have multiple screens as well as screens with in screens. So If you had 2 programs open side by side you could easily set that up as 2 areas and switch between them using a scene change. You can even get fancy and use transitions. Once I have captured the screen shots of Cakewalk with the narration I transfer the captured video into Movie Maker. Because movie maker can have multiple video and audio tracks you can do all sorts of stuff with both audio and video as well as text and still pictures. The video I did today I mutes the audio from the screen capture and just used the original audio as the sound track so that it's first generation. If I had made sounds from Cakewalk I would then use the Capture audio track for those parts. Or you can cheat and just capture the sounds from Cakewalk as little clips and plunk them on the time line and mix them in. Then I plunked in a instrumental version of a song I was working on to use as a backdrop. Movie maker is like having a multi track DAW complete with using 3rd party VST effects if you like but there's no Midi. It's based on Sound forge. Everything is intuitive if your used to music software. Anyway not sure if this helps but with the right tools pretty near anything is possible.

  35. We interupt this thread with an important Public Service Announcement !!! If you have ever wanted to keep your girlfriend , wife or adult daughter safe at home, I caution you to keep this important message in mind . Under no circumstance are you to ever play music from this artist or this song for the women in your life ... Here's the concrete proof of how women have been generaly known to react to his singing and looks . Now lf on the other hand , you happen to like the adventure of sneaking in your newley purchased musical equipment on the downlow into your studio . All done with out the watchful eye of your signifacant other keeping track of your music budget , Then by all means crank up your studio monitors and play "the warden " a tune sung by Geoff. Gentlemen I can assure you that you will thank me someday in the near future for the wisdom of this "sound musical advice " Your signifacant other will have been way too distracted to have noticed you have just snuck in 3 new Strats , a Les Paul and a brand new mixer into your studio .😉 Kenny

  39. Hello , I liked Both versions of the song. Always been an ELO fan and I think you did a Great job on this cover. It's leaning pretty hard towards "Lennon does ELO". If I were to change anything I believe the vocals could be improved as far as the FX and EQ. I'd probably back off the phasing effect a little and look closely around the 1K range for some reduction and a small boost in the lows. Very Nice ! Enjoyed it .. mark

  40. Again, they did not get that their exotic scrolling and zooming is a huge problem, if Melodyne is used in a DAW! 👎 I am waiting that they will give the possibility to define scrolling/zooming with scroll wheel (with shift/alt/ctrl), so that the user does not have to switch the scrolling behavior all the time between the DAW and MD!

  41. @Hidden Symmetry @Andrew Rhodes @DeeringAmps @Lynn Wilson Hello Friends , I'm Finally calling this one done. Thanks to all of you for your help and inspiration ! I'm sure I'll tweek it a little more before (when ever) I release it. @steve@baselines.com You got me looking closer at the drums. I went back and did a good bit of editing on the kick and added a couple of tom hits , getting it a little more on point. Not a big difference , but It's punching harder instead of being so laid back. @KSband I did a close listen on small speakers and earbuds . Bass was lost .. I did some EQ work , changed comp. settings and added some saturation. I think it's coming thru better with the kick. I'm going to let this one slide off the page now .. Thank You .. mark https://soundclick.com/r/s8nu7z
