  1. I love Scaler, but it’s essentially abandonware. They rarely update it. Sometimes days, or even weeks go by without a free update. 😡

  3. run ASC Pigments V. 4.0 Updated UI with simplified Play Mode (the one with macros etc.), cleaned up interface, and a new high-contrast Light Mode … well, yeah, looks like it takes the best of the look of rival Massive X. Plus left-right controls for navigating multimode modules. FX and Seq bypass. Ah, don’t know why all workstation synths don’t have this. New sync modes Drag-and-drop modulation editing. Now you just drag source to destination, then hover over the parameter to adjust mod depth. LFO presets – six waveform shapes (sine, random, etc.) Custom tuning support with ODDSound MTS-ESP compatibility Wavetable engine ring mod plus Pulse Width mode for Phase Transformation Harmonic engine now has new phase options with Phase Modulation and the ability to randomize the phase of all partials at once Modulator Oscillator with ratio options, extended 0.1 Hz – 20Khz range Super Unison effect, plus Unison controls are streamlined (closer to what’s in the rest of the Arturia stable) – unison across all engines, Unison Phase for Wavetable and Sample. MS-20 filter with both HP6 and LP12 modes Shimmer Reverb with two octaves of pitch shift and built-in modulation Bitcrusher adds Jitter, Scale, and Downsampling options Jup-8 V filter has FM control Notch Filter mode added to Multi Filter and Distortion Plus, part of what has always made Pigments fun to use is that it’s a big library of sound tools and resources. So of course, that’s expanded here. It’s new preset content, to be sure, but also new wavetables, samples, and noise types that you can build on – dozens of each, by Arturia’s count. So we’re not just talking libraries for preset lovers, but really an expanded toolkit for sound designers. There are also three new optional add-on libraries, too – Lo-fi, Neuro Bass, and CInematic. New Pigments users can get the latest version at an intro price of 99€/$. If you own other Arturia products, it could be even less than that – but you’ll have to log in to find out. Existing users, you get the update free of charge. If you want the added sound banks, the intro is 9.90€/$ for each or 19.90€/$ for the bundle. (Full price on the sound banks is 89.97€/$.

  5. An update on Ruby. Last night the vet called us close to Midnight to say that the operation was successful and Ruby was awake. He performed keyhole surgery on her spine where a disc had ruptured and deposited material and blood into the spinal cavity. We will have to wait 2-3 days to see if she will recover use of her back legs or not, but the vet is confident she will make a good recovery. At the very least, the damaged area has been cleaned which will prevent further damage and potential full paralysis. Today Ruby will be treated to a session in a Hyperbaric chamber. The clinic recommended this to speed up recovery. Hopefully, if all goes well, we will get to bring her home this week. I wish to thank everyone who has reached out and helped us during this stressful moment. We've been truly humbled by the support and we wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude. Thank you. 🙏 We know that this is only the beginning of a longer process to recovery, but the relief we feel at having her make it through the operation itself is immense. I'll keep everyone updated

  13. "Why the name JRR Shop?" Over the years, many customers have asked "Why the name JRR Shop"? Some have even called up asking, "Can I speak to JR?". Well, folks, there's no JR here! Just Roots Records was a record label I started while I was in college. When I started JRR Shop, I thought you musicians would like knowing that you're buying from other musicians, and that having us be tied to Just Roots Records would endear us in your hearts. Alas, time has marched on and JRR Shop has since taken over as our great love, leaving Just Roots Records by the wayside. Now you can visit www.justroots.com to see our evil cats! Feel free to call us "Just Roots Recording Shop", "Japan Rock & Roll Shop", or "Jelly Rolly Rocka' Shop". Whatever you decide to go with, just remember that with a name as bad as JRR Shop, we have to be good! To all of you, from all of us at JRR Shop - Thank you and Happy Music Making! 15. I've been trying to persist with Scaler - it's not an easy learn in my view, because there's not only a lot going on under the hood but also a lot of music theory that's worth delving into; in order to really get the most out of it. My current favoured workflow is to grab some of the built in song progressions I like and mess around with these in the pattern grid editor to build song parts (intro, verse, pre-chorus etc). I can map each of the pattern grids to key switches and 'play' in a song chord track. Record the resultant MIDI pattern into EzKeys and use the 'use browser midi' function in EzKeys to play the song sections (using suitable styles from the built in midi packs) to build up a song. Using this technique, I can create an underlying chord track and multiple more complex piano or other instrument tracks to layer in a song. I don't have any finished original projects to share yet, but I'm working on a few when I have time (bit busy at the moment though as lots of life stuff going on). Pound for pound, Scaler has to be the best value VST I've bought in a long time. Andy

  17. Nope. You can move it, but the Resources path is literally everything that the Arturia instruments need to function. That's where all of the presets, samples, and other resources such as the config stuff lives. The Arturia plugins are not self contained in the .dll and .vst3 files. For example the Pigments.vst3 is only 22.1 MB. The Arturia path "D:\Resources" uses 23GB on my D drive for the V Collection plus Pigments. I believe that this is not unique for large virtual instrument collections. I prefer Arturia's method to those of Native Instruments or IK Multimedia.

  18. It's worth having a hard drive with nothing but installers, authorization codes, updates, and the like. Then you don't have to spend hours downloading. Sometimes installers still need to verify your existence onnline, but it still saves a huge amount of time and frustration.

  24. Now that's a novel idea. Anyhow, there are two things I don't understand about vintage hardware emulation plugins: I can rarely hear that "buttery warm smoothness" or whatever it is that vintage gear supposedly adds to the sound. I'm not saying it's not there, just that my ears are either too far gone or not there yet. I can usually hear that it sounds different than other plugins doing the same thing, but I wouldn't say it actually sounds better. Sometimes I hear this additional noise that I'm not sure I want. I find it very hard to believe that half a century (or more) of progress in software and hardware has not been able to improve the sound quality and other features, and that these are somehow better than current plugins that are not trying to emulate hardware. I mean, if you're trying to go for the specific sound that these plugins provide then sure. But if you're trying to get the best possible sound, then are units from the 60s really the best there is? That said, most people here have more experience with mixing than me and I get empathetically excited whenever you guys do, so I'm demoing it. So far I'm not convinced but I might just buy it because FOMO.

  26. This is one of my favourite Overloud plugins. Be sure to give it a go if you do pick it up. If you're unsure about when to use it, as a rough guide use the 2A for where you want things sounding smooth: vocals, pads, maybe strings; use the 3A where you want some punch: guitars, drums, etc.

  43. This is probably the best price I have ever seen for this plugin. And this is not only 2A emulation but also 3A. So it's like buying 2 plugins and each is like $14 or less. It's a great deal. I like cakewalk LA2A, and I wonder who made this plugin. Perhaps by Overloud? Anyway, other than that, I didn't think, just bought.
