  1. Just in case anyone's still watching the count update to update in October like a plugin-starved hawk, that translates to an hourly rate of ~7 -- minus whatever the 28 September hours after hitting 20k bring. This seems like a good time to thank IK and @Peter - IK Multimedia for a full quarter-year of fun. I fiddled around with the numbers a bunch, because it's a hoot -- but I appreciate the promotion, the support and all the hard work that goes into both. And as someone who had only ST4 SE and a handful of freebies before the group buy, I scored an entire slew of new goodies to learn about and play with. I wound up with four entries, all with fortunate discounts, and somewhere around 22k, I'll run out of wonderful things to discover, for something like 1/80th of the combined list price. That's absolutely mindblowing. It should be a fun winter.

  2. Thank you all, this has been fun so far. I hope we can keep the fun and wonder going through October. At this point and definitely if when this gets to 25K it is just a huge deal regardless of the fact that it used to be a real nail-biter. I can't play favorites but I am pretty sure I interacted here the most so we'll leave it at that Just when I was feel all happy and sentimental you had to go and gloat Hehe but really I'm so happy to lose this one. I appreciate this as much as Zolton's sentiments to which you were replying. I think I might just crack open some champagne soon. Or just that bottle of Lagavulin 16 that is for whatever reason still nearly full

  3. Kurre, your post made me chuckle but we oughta lighten up a bit. The OP is brand-new to this stuff and unaware that there are lots of free instruments out there that you might have to do a little research to find. Every noob embarrasses himself by asking questions that have already been answered many times before. That's part of the feet-wetting process. If you don't remember ever doing that yourself, then your memory is failing. Gingko Biloba is supposed to help with that. SKATOR, start with Michael's link. That should keep you busy for awhile.

  7. No, they're saying ASIO4ALL is a wrapper, because it is. It makes a WDM driver appear as an ASIO driver. If an interface has real ASIO drivers, using ASIO4ALL is a waste of time in nearly all situations because the performance will almost certainly be much worse than using the correct manufacturer supplied ASIO driver. In the case of the Realtek driver, the ASIO driver you get with it is particularly dodgy, and you'll find you'll get better results using ASIO4ALL. That's not because ASIO4ALL is doing a great job, it's because the native driver is so bad. If anyone uses Realtek, switch to WASAPI. Cakewalk has excellent WASAPI support for Realtek and, in fact, I was getting better performance out of Realtek/WASAPI when I was travelling with my machine than I was getting with my TASCAM 16x08 back in the studio with proper ASIO drivers.

  9. In every release of Cakewalk by BandLab we include a link to "Rollback installer" along with its product release notes. All historic product release information can be found here with links to the corresponding rollback installers. If you encounter a problem after a new release, you can try and rule out whether the problem is specific to that release by using a rollback installer. Running a rollback installer will revert the installed version to the last publicly released version before the installed version of Cakewalk you are running. NOTES Please note that the rollback installers are specific to each release. i.e. you cannot use a rollback installer downloaded for an earlier release on the latest release because it will fail to run. If you need to, you can also go back to past versions by downloading and running rollback installers in succession. To get back to the latest release after running a rollback installer go to Help | check for updates and reinstall the latest update. PS: We only support the most current version of the application. Since Cakewalk is always evolving, older versions may contain bugs and certain features may not function properly due to back end changes. Always work with the most current version of the application and directly report any problems to Cakewalk should you find any.

  10. New midi auto-composer plugin - on offer at $29.70 vs $99 normal (and at pluginboutique.com if you have some cash/tokens there) https://www.waproduction.com/plugins/view/instacomposer genuinely impressed with this, especially at this price point

  11. Fluid Pitch. I just bought it for $34.40 using the discount code FALL30. Such a deal. Now, I should have been suspicious when I went to create an account and it told me my email address had already been used. Undeterred, I placed the order anyway. Turns out, I'd already purchased the product - earlier this month! Don't you just hate when that happens? If you don't know what this plugin does:

  13. We already have some great new products (software and hardware) in the works - hopefully some is going to be available sooner than one might expect. We put a lot back into the company for expansion of our in-house manufacturing, getting hardware to model into software, research and development of current and new software, etc but we also had to take into consideration the component shortage and fun market/supply chain drama while the world goes a little bonkers.

  19. Considering how much YouTube content I have bailed on in the first two minutes, your interview with Tracy was a gem, and kept me up too late because I had to see (and hear) every minute. I have loved all the Indiginus stuff since I "discovered" them, and it was wonderful to see the artist behind the works. Excellent job. 👍👍

  23. I did a bit more digging and have discovered some things. What I have discovered on Windows is that Product Manager will installs sounds based on paths specified in the Windows Registry, which can be set from within SampleTank 3 for SampleTank 3 libraries and from within SampleTank 4 for SampleTank 4 libraries. The registry keys are as follows: ST3: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 3\LibraryPath ST4: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 4\LibraryPath The issue is that if you do not have ST3, you cannot change the setting of the LibraryPath without going into the registry. The other issue is lots of libraries such as Brandenburg Piano are ST3 libraries. Even though you are using them into ST4 they still use the ST3 path. I still need to look at Mac to see where ST gets its LibraryPath for ST3. Changing the first path in ST4 does cause ST4 libraries to be installed in the new location. Hope this helps someone.

  24. There is also some confusion added to the discussion by the "albums-in-the-hope-chest" phenomenon. Typically a young artist will come to be recognized after he has been working for a decade or more without public success. Then he hits the audience with the best stuff he has created over that long time period, and everyone thinks he is brand new at this, and marvels at his creative productivity. A second or third album comes out with some of his lesser but still impressive songs, that have been sitting on ice for years sometimes, and the image of a huge amount of creative energy personified in an up and coming talent is solidified. As often as not though after he has used up his best stuff from storage, his creativity seems to lag, because he is not putting out such great work every six months. Once he starts to go a couple of years between releases, he is already judged to be a has-been who can no longer create new stuff, and that is just if he has not succumbed to drug abuse or the loss of motivation and deflections from his meteoric rise that comes with new distractions that often accompanies "success."

  28. My little Audient interface that was about £150 is way better than my original Tascam interface that was 3x more expensive back in the day, and PC to run it all on was £1k instead of £2k back then and DAW that was £500 is now free ! With all the free plugins as well now you can put a decent system together for a fraction of what you could when I put my first home studio together.

  29. I've stopped poking at people for not using the Search function because as I understand it, there's a generation or two that hasn't grown up with threaded discussion forums being a thing. And one of the big things about threaded discussion forums is that the knowledge in them is way less ephemeral than on Discord, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram or wherever else, which is what frustrates me about those ways of communicating. All the great info that just scrolls away. So they may not even know about the power of the Search Bar. They're not only new to Cakewalk, they're often just as new to this type of communication. I try to be gentle. Yes, people should at least browse the first couple of pages of threads, should use the Search Bar, but you have to know that you can do those things before you do them. Anyway, @SKATOR, welcome, and yes, that thread that @Michael A.D. linked to will keep you busy for days downloading goodies. You don't mention a specific genre, but I'll assume EDM. Here's what I would get first: In that thread, you'll find a link to Sitala, which is a sampler. Since Cakewalk doesn't yet have an integrated one, for the kind of work that I think you want to do, you'll want some way to load up and use the one-shots you find in sample packs. Sitala is probably the most popular one around here while we wait. You can drag clips directly from Cakewalk's timeline to Sitala's pads, and it comes with a usable sampled 808. Gotta have a sampler. After that, Surge is probably the most powerful freeware synth around right now. Tons of patches for it, it's in constant development. Meldaproduction's Monastery Grand is hands-down the best free grand piano, and while you're at Meldaproduction, you can also download their FreeFX Bundle, which has 37 really useful effect and utility plug-ins you can use for free. Dead Duck E-Piano is the best-sounding free Rhodes-like electric piano I know of. Dead Duck also has a large package of basic bread-and-butter FX plug-ins, also free. If you have $5 to spend, AIR's Hybrid 3 is a great synth for electronic music, tons of arps, leads, pads, sounds really good and you can get a bunch of free patches for it if you do a little searching. For another $5 you can also get AIR's XPand!2, which is a ROMpler that comes with over 2000 sounds, including multiple really good drum kits. A|A|S Swatches is a great way to get over 500 sounds for free. Pads, leads, arps, hits, and the quality is the very best, IMO. That's my suggested starter kit. Any links I didn't supply are in that other thread. The reason I've listed specific ones is that there is so much information in that thread that one can get lost in it and not know where to start. This is the condensed "starter EDM toolkit" version. The two payware instruments are almost free. Hybrid 3 is the closest you can get to Serum or Massive without forking over way more cash, and XPand!2 is a Swiss Army Knife of excellent sounds.

  30. Full Bucket make some great free synths and I will be getting this one. If I have a criticism it's that on these digital synths the emulate the programing controls a but too authenticity. I have their Poly 800 and is a big pain to program as the original. ( I had one)

  31. ASIO4ALL can aggregate devices because WDM can aggregate devices, Of course, neither can handle syncing the clocks on multiple devices as that is up to the hardware and not the driver.

  32. I guess ya'll will have to tag me as a sucker. 🤡 I bought this (at a discount to the price shown) and I'm loving it so far. If you work in a lot of different genres, it's helpful to have something put out a reasonably authentic groove to get started with. You can tweak as needed or just generate new drum loops until you get something you like. You can load in your own samples if you don't like the sounds it chooses. And then you can drag out midi or audio either as all in one or as stems. So far, I'm finding it to be a tremendous workflow accelerator.

  33. Audio interfaces are so cheap now I don't know why anyone would bother not getting a decent asio one.

  34. I'd say no, it does not. It's an interesting question, to be sure. If the Q is "does musical inventiveness wane?" Then for me that's a no. I'll be creating melodies, baselines and rhythms in my urn. If the Q is "is there less energy for it as we get older?" Then 10-4 good buddy.

  37. Now Vojtech just need to steal the "smoky cloud" graphical artist from iZotope for marketing materials The support manuals could also use an overhaul. Part of that is the boilerplate format used for them and the fact that they have to be geared for folks who only own that plugin, but it still takes users a bit of effort to delve into the Edit screen and feel comfortable in the guts of many applications.

  40. The path I was refering to is the path where the downloads are done. I have moved that around for sound downloads to another drive, but now it is back at it's default for now. I thought I was done with sound downloads but... maybe not! 😁 You can also change where the sound contents are installed. That is different than Product Manager dowload zip files. It can be done as you showed, or if you set the directory in SampleTank settings, they will always be installed there by default without any intervention. Mine are installed on my second drive hdd.

  44. I've scraped the AmpliTube documentation and Custom Shop to create the following spreadsheet. Hopefully it'll be useful to others. I discovered that Metal Collection is pretty much incorporated into AmpliTube 5. Use the filters to include/exclude values to narrow down what you have/are missing. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18qod2xI_wcOjBiFsN7gpv-60BeTyuhEQ-5epfb7IPcE/edit?usp=sharing Of course, with the number of freebies, it just makes sense to get them all, but if you don't want to, you can see what each collection gets you. Feel free to comment on the sheet itself if you have suggestions.
