When I first started with IK products I bought the iRig UA 2015. I wanted a little bass amp emulator for my Android phone. That worked out well, I like the sound of the B15 on it (written in stone inside hardware - phone app is just to make adjustments). I had always wanted the Miroslav collection since reading about it back when he created it (was fan of his bass playing in Mahavishnu Orchestra). I was amazed when I saw because I had bought the iRig UA that I could buy the full Miroslav 2 for $130 in 2017 as crossgrade with Jam Points. Then because I'm frugal I went the Custom Shop route to buy SVX and Fender 1 so I had some decent amp sims for amps I would use. Because of all the above steps I got to the IK Buyer 101 level. Over on the Cantabile forum I defended the confusing IK marketing as something you can sort out and if you wait for sales you can get the products at very affordable prices. I posted a link to this thread there calling it a college level course on the Group Buy5 points

Even their support can be quite tedious. The ONLY saving grace is that Pete from IK is here to "elevate" issues...but if not for him, their support would be lackluster at best3 points

LO-FI-AF is the perfect plugin for when your other plugins sound too perfect (you know what we're talking about…). This new tool from Unfiltered Audio (@Unfiltered Audio) brings you on a journey through your favorite audio artifacts of the past few decades. Using impulse responses, spectral shaping, and other techniques, it conjures up the idiosyncrasies of everything from vinyl records and analog radios to MP3s, CDs, cassettes, cell phones and beyond. Added to the MEGA Bundle at no extra cost! September 72 points

For me, I used to play and record into my DAW. Then I would spend way too much time drawing automation to add movement, etc . Since getting KK keyboard I now play and capture the knob movement live (basically performing live like abacab said) to get the sound I’m after. I’m sometimes playing the keys and then using any free finger to turn knobs which sometimes can get difficult. So my hope is that with some of these new MPE controllers I can do more while playing without turning separate knobs.2 points

That would work! The setting "0" (Use playback buffer size) is another not so obvious thing to understand. I bet most people think 0 = No buffer. It could be stated more clearly in the Export Audio window.2 points

I'm in a six-piece band. Pay's about the same as for a duo. In 1975. Thinking of a revised distribution scheme... 16.7% base pay less 1% for every song you screw up less 5% if you don't help set up the PA less 5% if you only pack out your own gear and then leave less 5% if we can't find you after break's over because you're chatting up the barmaid2 points

Movementron free synth Movementron is a synthesizer that focus on movement in space and time, from sequenced oscillators and filters to sequenced modulation and mangling of samples. Combined with a master effect section with compressor, filter, delay, and reverb, it works great both as a performance synthesizer and sound design tool. System Requirements Microsoft Windows 8.1 or later. https://www.flandersh.tech/movementron.html2 points

The two common reasons files cannot be dragged from the OS into the DAW are The DAW is running as administrator. The DAW does not run as administrator by default. You would have had to explicitly change this in the compatibility tab in the program properties. The files are not files recognized by the DAW. While the OS prevents drag and drop when running as administrator, the media browser should always work, however; by default, the media browser in the DAW applies a filter to show certain types of files. Refer to the media browser documentation for this list. Generally files blocked by the filter are not used by the DAW. If you believe the files should be displayed in the media browser, verify the file names have the proper extension. Note: the image in the OP has file extensions turned off so there is no way to tell what the full file names are. There is a setting in Windows Explorer View tab to show extensions. There is an option in the media browser menu (B in the image below) under Views to "Show All Files And Folders" If the files are on an external drive, try copying a couple to the C drive and see if they can be imported into the DAW.2 points

Generally I agree with the gist of what you're saying, and I hate the oppressive atmosphere of our contemporary culture with its hypervigilantism about words and real or imagined - or sometimes just IMAGINABLE - connotations. But I also have to agree with Reid here. This sort of talk typically starts rather innocently but before you know it all the chicks are gone and you wonder why. Because a once mature, undiscriminating and non-sexist hangout gradually, without any actual malice involved, transformed into a "bro" nest. It doesn't take genuine sexism or misogyny, only a series of slight prods into a direction where similar speech mannerisms become normalized. I know it's a joke, but a random bypasser and potential future participant has no reason to presume so, because real sexism and misogyny exist and quacks just like that other duck.2 points

I was not comparing hobbyists and home studio guys to big studios but rather tried to point out that nowadays users should not be required to learn things like how buffer size affects performance: it's complicated subject and most musicians are not interested in that kind of things. Programmers are but musicians without coding experience may feel setting buffer size difficult. Same applies to any big studio, too. Ability to modify buffer size is great but I was wondering if it was possible to do this automatically. Noel already explained why it may now work that great.1 point

Yes there is a regression with export tasks caused by some of the selection changes. We’ll post an updated build so that you can resume testing.1 point

The reason why we don't do this behind the scenes is because like audio latency, there are cases where it can affect sound so we don't want to second guess the user. Some plugins will render differently and then users will complain that their bounce sounds different. The higher buffer size doesn't play such a big role in memory consumption, but it plays a huge role in speed and CPU load. While it may not be very noticeable in small projects, with 400 or 500 tracks and lots of clips for example, it can be the difference of whether you can export in real-time or not. >>Those folks do not need understand why some buffer setting is faster and other is slower. Shall I rename the field to something esoteric like export acceleration? :) Re memory consumption the main change in 09 is that when you export the entire mix with all tracks it no longer duplicates the project in memory which uses a lot of memory and setup time. In large projects this will make a big difference because it now exports directly from the main project loaded in memory.1 point

Something in the path of passing info into the task. So the old tasks contain valid instructions, but the new ones are not picking up the data while managing to output... nothing but a filename. Might be a helpful pointer for them?1 point

Interestingly my desktop has got exactly the same 6gen i7 6700 as in the article but it is not clear for me (from a quick read) whether it allows for Win11 or not. From what I get it could be possible but the security might be compromised. 🤔 Not that I'm losing any sleep because of Win11. I'm already disappointed enough with Win10 after switching from Win7 and Win11 doesn't appear to be any better. I upgraded solely for compatibility reasons and, well a bit more cpu power but really all the rest, like time regularly wasted on windows upgrades and fixing broken software, peace of mind etc. is my loss. And now they want me to spend more money... I don't think so.1 point

I usually "comfort" frustrated new users with...: You have there a program with more capabilities than the Beatles and Rolling Stones had in the 60's and 70's in worlds leading superstudios. Isn't it obvious that it has quite a learning curve and requires a good amount of work to get aquainted ? If you want to start from the basics, reading the 1800 page manual alone is a demanding job. And the number of pages tells that it's not something you can learn overnight. I do know most users don't have the patience, though. Four hours of strugling is nothing, if you haven't used DAWs before. After four weeks you're somewhere, but you keep learning new things for years and years. As mentioned above, the basic tasks are done in a very similar way in different DAWs.1 point
