  3. Evolution Rick is actually played fingerstyle only, and not picked. It uses the precursor to the Evolution engine, so there are some familiar elements such as the built-in effects, articulation mapping system, and various settings to adjust the sound and playability of the instrument to your liking. However, it doesn't license the free Kontakt Player, so you would need to own the full version of Kontakt to use it. It also isn't NKS Ready, and uses its own built-in preset system instead of Kontakt's snapshot presets. At some point we'll update the library to add all that, but if you specifically need a picked bass sound or something that runs in the free Kontakt Player, check out our Evolution Flatwound Bass and Evolution Roundwound Bass libraries. Both include fingerstyle and picked articulations as well as slapping, so they're pretty extensive. Here's a comparison of the two libraries:

  10. This discussion makes me feel like such a dinosaur. If I want something repeated 16 times, I physically play it 16 times using my own actual fingers. Sure, each repetition might not be identical, but I see that as a positive. That said, on the rare occasions when I do want to exactly duplicate something, like maybe a tambourine hit, I have no problem using the exact same technique as I'd use with any other type of editor: CTL-C / CTL-V. Yeh, I have loop libraries that allow for a single MIDI note to be stretched to any length, but rarely use them because despite their undeniable convenience, in the end they're just excruciatingly booooring.

  11. Guitars can also abuse humans. I had a 1960's guild acoustic for about 30 years, got it when I was a kid, I played everywhere with that thing and it didn't like people who tried to break us up or who abused it. Once it was stolen and I gave the cops the serial number when I reported it, a couple of weeks later, the cops phoned me that they had found the guitar in a truckload of instruments that had been stolen in Adelaide on route to Melbourne. It had crashed and the driver was killed and the passenger was badly injured but the guitar in it's hard case was fine. Then I was playing at an open gig at a house, when I walked in, there was about 20 guitar cases in the hallway. Everyone took turns singing some songs. I let some guy play my guitar but he was a bit heavy handed with it so I took it off him. I went inside, came back, and he and my guitar were gone. I ran out the front and caught him. A scuffle ensued and I got my guitar back, I went back to the party and about 5 minutes later he was run down by a car while walking home, he was a bit drunk. He survived with a bit of brain damage. I would leave my guitar in it's stand in my bedroom and once when I was in a share house, a painter came in while I was at work and he must have knocked the guitar over because when I came home, the neck was broken, he denied it at first, I think what happened was that he opened the windows and the curtain blew in knocking the guitar on to the floor at an angle, headstock first. He relented eventually and agreed to pay for it to be fixed, it had to have a steel rod inserted in the neck and be glued and painted. 2 weeks later, he was bashed outside the casino, it was in the papers and he was in a coma for a while, with neck and head injuries. There were other instances. It seemed anyone who abused the guitar ended up in the shit.

  16. Yes, the DAW has to allocate resources for many additional I/O channels, etc. But it doesn't consume the same amount of RAM as using separate/unique sample libraries. Let's say your lean OS install idles at ~3.1GB RAM Fire up Studio One Pro v5 with an empty project... and you're at 4.3GB Add a single instance of Kontakt 6 (empty - no libraries loaded)... and you're at 4.5GB Load The Grandeur into the single Kontakt 6 instance... and you're at 4.8GB Load a second instance of Kontakt 6 with an instance of The Grandeur. You've now got two instances of Kontakt 6... each with The Grandeur loaded... RAM use is now 4.9GB. If you load the same two instances of Kontakt 6... load The Grandeur in the first... and The Maverick in the second... RAM use is 5.2GB. Both piano libraries are a bit over 7GB in total size. I'll liken the situation to testing drive speed. Let's say the drive you want to benchmark has 128MB cache. What happens if you benchmark with a 32MB file? What happens if you benchmark with a 1GB file? With the 32MB file, you'll be testing the speed of the cache. 😉 With the 1GB file, you'll circumvent the caching... and get the actual speed of the drive. Load up 20-30 libraries that are similar in size to The Grandeur (but each a unique separate library). Report back with the RAM use and RAM Pressure graph. I pushed the 16GB M1 Mini ridiculously hard... and it did a pretty remarkable job. The RAM caching, compression, etc allow you to squeeze a lot out of 16GB RAM. That said, if you really push it... the RAM Pressure went thru the roof... and it took a LONG time for this type of project to fully load, RAM to be compressed/cached/etc. It's not ideal in a heavy load workstation type scenario... and (to me) not a real substitute for having enough physical RAM for your largest projects. To be fair, Apple doesn't market the machine for that type of use. For what it is (small form-factor, inexpensive, silent), it's a nice machine.

  17. Glad to be of help, I actually did exactly that, started off with the project and deleted track by track and bus by bus till there's one track left and i was still facing the problem. Swapped out the mono plugin in my chain and found out that was the cause

  19. I specifically mentioned this when talking about running stress-tests on a "RAM limited" machine. If you load many instances of the same library, it completely invalidates the test. Why? Because the single library is only buffered once (in RAM). RAM wise, you may as well only be running a single instance of The Grandeur. To actually stress-test the machine's limited amount of RAM, you need to load separate/different large libraries.

  27. This has been fixed for the next update. The issue is when the original track is assigned to say outputs 9 & 10, and the synth you're replacing it with doesn't have outputs 9 & 10. It was trying to retain the output port offset, but obviously it can't, so it fails leaving it unassigned. So in the next update it will: Always set it to use the first output(s) of the new synth; and Set the Track MIDI channel override to none (as it is with standard Simple Instrument Tracks) You can change MIDI channel if necessary in the inspector by switching to the MIDI tab.

  28. Hi everyone, We just dropped an early access release that has a lot of new exciting new features including deep BandLab integration via a brand new library view. Not only can this feature be used to publish to BandLab and collaborate with other musicians, you can also use it to save stem mixes of your project and play them anywhere, which can be very useful when testing mixes or trying to get opinions from other folks on your mixes such as in the songs forum. This is much more powerful than posting a stereo mix to your song, because if you additionally provide stems others can offer more constructive advice feedback on your mixes. (there are options to provide a full mix in addition to individual track/bus stems) Please try out this feature and let us know your thoughts in the early access thread.

  31. isn't your feature request to do repetitious playing for x # of measures based on musical score notation? there's no penalty for creating (in your example 99 measures) esp if the goal is to add something else along the way (like melody, harmony, sound effects, soloing etc), you'll need those measures anyways. otherwise, maybe export the audio and run it in an audio player on loop until you're bored with it...

  38. I've seen issues long past where you might delete a synth and not delete it's associated audio tracks - then when re-inserting the same synth the tracks associations could get confused. I've seen issues - ( again in the past ) where deleting a synth could re-assign the deleted instrument audio tracks to a different synth . I haven't run into this in along while - so maybe one of the updates has made this more stable - or more likely I was just being stupid about something.
