  2. I seriously doubt Bandlab will come on this forum to argue. Go to them directly. The developers aren't responsible for representing the marketing plans of Bandlab. Posting about it here is pointless. The developers have plenty to do. Let them do it.

  3. For me https://www.bandlab.com/membership is just black... It contacts tons of trackers (google, tiktok, facebook, outbrain, etc.), my Firefox refuse to load it. From the beginning, "free" CbB was demanding re-activation every half an year. So it was clear it will not be really "free" forever. All these locking, started at Platinum time, especially after "new" version of Z3TA2 with online activation as the only visible change, and especially related bugs, was not convincing. Now the owner is different and management behavior is even less convincing: "our free product will be paid product... soon..." But I have thought may be there is re-start in the development. Unfortunately the video linked early in this thread has demonstrated the second change of GUI framework and several tiny features. No MIDI routing/VST and no offline pre-processing during playback and so I guess still the very same 20 years old engine. I am hobbyist, but last years I have payed quite some money for plug-ins and a bit for the DAW. And I have no regrets because each time it was absolutely clear for what I pay (and how much... for Bandlab membership I can't even find the price in euro and info about VAT). I want a DAW be able to run during lifetime (my! not DAWs!). And I know that is the case with Sonar X and my current DAW. Any version, at any time, offline. In other words, Sonar X (and CbB, till possible to run) projects will be supported by ReaCWP (I am still fixing bugs when spotted), but any changes in the format introduced by "new Sonar" will not be supported/fixed. I mean if you have project files from X/CbB, don't overwrite them when "testing" "new Sonar". Just in case you need ReaCWP in the future... who knows...

  5. Yesterday, as some of you did, I received Native Instruments 2024 newsletter. Cutting all the blah, it specifically mentioned this: "We also understand subscriptions arenโ€™t for everyone, so don't worry โ€“ our perpetual bundles won't be going anywhere." I agree, it's not healthy not disclosing if perpetual licenses will be available for Sonar.... Especially now, when working demo is available. While I do have faith that Sonar will not be a subscription only gig, very recently I was looking at a few competitors and made a probable choice if things will go sour. That was after reviewing Sonar demo. The reason - because non subscription options were not mentioned. This is not a "threat" of any kind, just want to show, if it matters, how some of millions of users think. I do like new look/feel of Sonar and will be among first in line if non sub. options will be offered. P.S. I also think it will be noble for Bandlab to permanently unlock the software that was purchased before Bandlab's takeover and if they want to be extra nice, unlock Cakewalk by Bandlab permanently...

  6. Something seems to have seriously gone off the rails here, it might be a phase of the moon thing? Wookie, you surely must know John from all those years back on the old forums right through to present time on these new forums? I would find it hard to believe if it was not so. He has had a few issues with the way things have gone with Cakewalk Sonar and Cakewalk Next, which it seems have given him a different perspective lets say. But he has been for as long as I have 'known' him, as much as one can know someone by just observing them on a forum, been one of the most helpful, Cakewalk/SONAR/Sonar/Next, (well not Next so much due to issues he has come across) pro people on Cakewalk forums, and that's been a long time, years before these forums and CbB. When I read some of this it was like entering some alternate reality, I thought surely you must know this, and by some of your comments it seems you don't. He has just hit a little speed bump, and not to use to strong a language, become a little despondent, disheartened, He is most certainly one of the good guys, just having a down moment. [Edit] and as it seems you are misunderstanding what he has said and is doing, he hasn't been demoing all these DAW's for years, it's just basically now he is speaking of I believe, his feet have been and are completely, firmly planted in the Cakewalk universe, I find it difficult to grasp you aren't aware of this. Apologies to anyone if it is myself who has misunderstood, I am on some heavy pain relief meds, so I accept my wrong doing if so.

It doesnโ€™t make any use of sampled material as the sound you hear is completely generated in real time thanks to some pretty complex math calculations performed by your device while you play. Features include: Physical Modeling โ€“ no samples Full polyphony (49 notes) Two different modes: Keyboard or Mallet Adjustable mallet hardness Available as stand-alone and AUv3 plugin Very low CPU and RAM usage

  10. Absolutely as well as have all the details attended to like the info on the web page. Tutorials and fancy promo videos press releases to the industry, unveiled at NAAM. They either have a brilliant plan that has yet to be revealed or they just donโ€™t think things through. I have now been on all the major DAWs web pages and Bandlabs sites will need a lot of work if they want to look good out there. For almost a year the main thing you see is โ€œComing Soonโ€. ?? Thatโ€™s unheard of elsewhere. I want to see Price and a demo the rest is exactly the same boring promo all the web pages have which I doubt anyone reads, I donโ€™t, itโ€™s all promo marketing speak and you rarely see what you want to know so on to the demo. I guess Cakewalk is the demo! What a confusing mess I feel sorry for any one who might have been interested.

  19. Good plugin, and if you use Studio One you get the MixFX engine usage which is cool. Good Price as well, you could get it for cheaper if you are prepared to wait, it was $29 in Feb so it will come, but hey, 10 bucks? go for it if interested.

  21. I run into the luxury problem of โ€žtoo many choicesโ€œ all the time, either resulting in being overwhelmed or never checking out stuff I bought and using regular old stuff instead. Last weekend, I was quite inspired by VenusTheory's video about choice paralysis where he and others basically came to the unanimous conclusion that creativity is sparked best by having to work around constraints. I have a list of my favourite basic plugins (and the ones I want to be favourites ๐Ÿ™„) and their CPU usage and other info anyway, so I had the idea of creating a bunch of different mixing โ€ženvironmentsโ€œ where I group plugins by what fits together in terms of aesthetics or sound signature. Every one of those environments could only have a limited number of plugins of each type (like, two โ€žfastโ€œ and two โ€žslowโ€œ or bus compressors and what not) and all the environments are built so I'll have to work around limitations and find clever or at least more complicated solutions. Iโ€˜m very much looking forward to doing the same with synths and sample libraries once I find the time.

  22. As we can be reasonably sure that the Bandlab guys will be keeping some oversight of this discussion, it would seem to be a good time for them to make some kind of clarification statement about how Sonar is going to be made available in the future. It is confusing to see the pre-release being made available on a paid for basis via Backstage Pass, without (as far as I can see) any confirmation that this paid for access is going to count for something when the full release is done. I say this, in part, because of the amount of additional 'beta' testing feedback which those folks accessing Sonar via Backstage Pass are providing to Bandlab. I'm not suggesting that firm pricing needs to be announced now (although I don't see why not) but at the very least some clarification as to whether Back Stage pass is the final 'purchase' route to Sonar or not; and if not, how we are going to be able to purchase Sonar.

  25. Nice post. It can be a win-win. Bandlab can get credibility with a professional DAW in its ranks. And hopefully, revenues from Sonar, whether through the subscription and/or other means, goes to Sonar staff and Sonar R&D to make it sustainable and a continued evolving product. Some may go to overhead, but that is ok too, as long as it does not drain the money reasonably needed for Sonar staff and Sonar R&D.

  26. Many of us had to have a "plan B" in 2018, and many here have mentioned money spent elsewhere . . . but we were also able to keep moving forward with the Cakewalk by BandLab free version, which ain't no sub standard DAW, and only ripened on the vine over the last few years. Agreed, the DAW is not going to get the attention or priority of engineering resources from the Mr. BIG corporation . . . but BandLab seems more solid than the last few business partners Cakewalk had . . . so, what should we music creators care, as long as we have a pathway to the future. Nothing is going to end, we can still open our older projects 5 years from now, right ? (he says hopefully) . . . it will just cost more . . . yep, more than free.

  27. In my experience this is done before development begins in earnest. A business needs to know the size of the market, competition, pricing, feature set and cost of development before the first shovel full of dirt is turned. Bandlab may not have decided what sales model to implement but they almost certainly know what the numbers are.

  28. Well it just keeps getting worse more interesting. We had rehearsal on Thursday and the pressure was taking its toll on our singer, who's married to the drummer. She and the guitarist let a trivial disagreement bloom into a big argument and he left in a huff, never to return. This is unusual for us, as we all generally get along really well. So yesterday we brought in a new guitarist and spent 4 hours working with him with the goal of deciding whether or not to cancel this week's gig, too. It's a good gig and we don't want to lose it - scenic location on a river, lively audiences and a decent-sounding room where we get to use our own PA. To everyone's delight, the new fellow really stepped up to the challenge. It looks like we'll go ahead with next Saturday's gig, even if it's with a somewhat truncated repertoire. The drummer has new drugs that are greatly alleviating his treatment's side effects. We're rehearsing again today and will get in at least one more session before Saturday. For my part, I am doing my best to project confidence that it won't be a train wreck. But there's a bit of a strain relief coming on Tuesday. I'm going up to Bellingham to see Penn & Teller, treating my daughter and granddaughter who haven't seen them live before. And since I'm not the one driving, it will be a pharmaceutically-enhanced evening for me. Brownies!

  34. Just got this email...I havent gotten it yet.. Hey all - Quick note to let you know, compatibility and usability issues have been sorted out for Simple Stems. The new version is on the website. It's a free update, and creates crystal clear stems. We've also added a queue, so while your checking out the stems from one tune, a whole list of others can be processing. A tutorial video is coming soon, and (I'm sure) a few more little bug fixes and new features. Anyway, as usual, grab it here: www.stagecraftsoftware.com/products/simplestems Thanks for your support, Aaron Stagecraft Software Founder

  43. Pitch bend range is a setting defined in the synth itself. If you are using a GM/GS/XG compatible synth, then inserting an RPN 0 > 1536 in your MIDI track will set the given trackโ€™s bend range to 1 octave. This also works in TTS-1 (if you still have it).
