  6. I was getting glitches, pops, clicks, dropouts... Ran across a utube vid... Turns out it was Windows Defender. On the virus page, way at the bottom, is a tab called Exclusions. I excluded my J: drive, where most of my samples are, and cakewalk and cubase project folders and the folders where I write my exports. Not one glitch in an entire day! Maybe you guys already had this one nailed down, but it was news to me and a big deal...

  8. Just ran across this yesterday from Starsky Carr. In this video from a year ago he links to a thread in the Gearspace forum where a moderator shared an ultimate Ensoniq patch collection for ESQ-1 and SQ-80 owners back in 2018. https://gearspace.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-and-electronic-music-production/1207777-ensoniq-esq-1-sq-80-ultimate-patch-collection.html Starsky points out that the SQ-80 patch banks from the original Ensoniq floppy disks work in the Arturia SQ80 V, since they have been converted to SysEx (.syx). If you read down to the last page in the Gearspace thread, another user has done most of the work for SQ80 V users. He has already imported the SysEx banks into SQ80 V and exported them in Arturia format in "Arturia-presets.zip", so all you have to do is unzip the bank folders and then slide them into your "/arturia/presets/SQ80 V/User/" folder, and restart the plugin. https://gearspace.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-and-electronic-music-production/1207777-ensoniq-esq-1-sq-80-ultimate-patch-collection-3.html You can also import individual SysEx banks directly yourself using the "Import" dialog in the Arturia SQ80 V. The only downside is that there are so many! Thousands!!! The imported patches will be "dry", so any desired effects will need to be added inside the soft synth. But the Arturia SQ80 V macro controls for brightness, timbre, time, and movement work right out of the box! Some real gems in here!

  9. I think the biggest and most organised collection of ESQ-1 and SQ-80 programs is the database I published in 2022. It has 5,675* unique patches, categorised into three levels: Synth type: ESQ-1 or SQ-80 Instrument Family: for example, Bass, Strings... Instrument: for example, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba... There is a table of contents to help you find the sound you might be looking for, and comprehensive instructions. And, yes, credit to Don Solaris and Rainer Buchty for collecting and sharing most of these patches. This collection is available at: https://app.box.com/s/odqcbczbs8xjhgw9k2v2bna0tcxyx1v7 Please read the file 'Ensoniq Programs.pdf' for more information. Incidentally, the SQL file I provided loads directly into KnobKraft Orm, a free open-source, cross-platform, multi-synth sysex librarian that works with the ESQ-1. A link to the Orm site is included in the notes. Using Orm bypasses any need to work with sysex files; just download and set-up the program, load the entire collection in a single .db3 file, and start sending programs to your synth. You could be up and running in under 20 minutes. * The notes mention 5,762 patches in places. This was before a last-minute discovery of 87 duplications, whose names are identified in the notes.

  16. I bought the whole set a year ago or so and can recommend them. They're super easy to use, so they're especially useful if you're more into playing or singing and not as knowledgeable on the technical aspects of mixing, as they use AI and plain language to help you EQ and do other tasks.

  22. I totally agree! For me the threshold for an impulsive buy is definitely too high if the price inc. VAT is $31.25 (25+25%)! The chance to get something for a lower value is almost zero, because there is rarely an offer for $44.99 (=$25.00 for me after voucher and VAT). Beside the aspect that I already have a large PA collection it would require that I really want a plugin for the new prices and there is none!

  23. It all depends on which order the clips are processed. I've not looked at that code in a while, so I can't recall what determines the order. But say you have two clips right next to each other, and the first clip is processed first. This will result in the second clip being moved to accommodate the first, then the next clip moved again because it's part of the selection. If however the second clip was moved first, both would move as expected. As I said, it's the wrong tool for the job when dealing with the entire project. Insert Time is the one to use in this scenario, as it's a far simpler command and far less complicated than either ripple edit or slide (therefore much less chance of anything going wrong).

  26. I did get a $25 voucher. Problem is the new minimum spend of $40. $39.99 on sale just is frustrating. Price it at $40 then PA can take my $15 - now they get $0. Glory days of a $29.99 plugin for $4.99 with a no minimum voucher are gone. Keeps me from spending $$$ on more plugins I won't use at least! I only spent $25 at PA in 2023. Not sure how the vouchers are figured out anymore, but even the $25 don't seem to be generic.

  38. Nice one, great lyrics and a good voice for belting it out. I liked the pedal steel sounds, really added to the vibe. I did a song with bib, a long time ago. If we have a bib theme day I'll post it.

  39. Got to be honest I always thought I’d stay clear from anything cruise related, but in this last year a good friend of mine from way back when, and Larry, the Cakies king, made me reconsider. I would never have thought either one of them could fancy this kind of cruising, but hey, there’s obviously fun to be had (and stuff to see). I guess my main caveat would be about the people I’d be forced to be with for a considerable amount of time. Then again, these ships carry thousands. And some among them are called Larry.

  43. Definitely need to clean up the timing issues. There seems to be a lot of the instruments that hit notes out of the groove. Even the snare. It’s like it got Quantized and put notes 1/16 out of place. If it done with midi this is easy to fix.

  44. That looks identical to the piano I grew up with. I even took it out to a gig once, but quickly gave up on the idea when I realized that moving a piano throws it out of tune. But I loved that piano because it had amazingly fast action. If you can score it for a couple hundred bucks, absolutely go for it. But if they want a thousand dollars, though, get him a digital piano with the most important feature for a learner: a headphone jack.
