  3. AVID got sold? Now what will we do? Oh yeah, continue to make music on whatever DAW we choose. DOH!

  4. I wouldn't worry too much about recommended specs. As others have noted above, the recommended specs are just that - recommendations. Not requirements. Of course, if you run on a potato you're gonna have to be creative sometimes, e.g. freezing tracks, using large buffers and holding off on mastering until the end. But we've all been there and know it's do-able. My guess is that if your system handles CbB OK today it will handle Next, even if Next is not as heavily optimized as Sonar is due to it being multi-platform.

  5. These are just suggested specs. FWIW, I recorded 16 simultaneous tracks in Next while playing back an existing 32 tracks on a 2.0Ghz / 4 core Intel Celeron J4125 with 8GB of RAM... and this was to an external USB 3 SSD. No plugins though. I did the same in CbB and had no issues there either. The specs are intentionally on the higher side, as people generally want to load their project up with plugins.

  7. I just duplicated a track, added nine instances of ProQ3 on one of them, nine of Kirchhoff on the other and checked the CPU usage. Both stock default settings but then applied similar curves. ProQ3 track was 0.45%, Kirchhoff was around 0.8% so still not bad, but just shy of twice the CPU hit. When I first tried it, which was right before the PA version was released and then the PA version itself (which is where I noticed the CPU the most), dropping it into a heavy mastering session was very noticeable. I hadn't noticed the performance hit quite as much recently and now I'm thinking about it, I wonder if the PA version was optimized, or they previously had the oversampling enabled by default, or the 117-bit Ultra-High Precision enabled by default, whereas now they're both off. That could explain it too. I uninstalled the non PA version demo the other day, so I can't check now. Adding it to a project was similar hit to adding TOMO Audiolabs LISA from PA when they first released that as well (which I also really love). Adding ProQ3 into the same project made no impact at all.

  8. I have an idea for an album project for ages where I'd like to use some short dialogues from a famous movie. Of course, to avoid copyright claims I was planning to record my own voice imitating the original dialogues the best I can. Maybe I can use a tool like this to modify my voice or synthesize those talks more precisely without infringing copyright by sampling the material. Would this be a fair use?

  11. Mainly two reasons. CPU usage is lower with FF which is the biggest reason and a lot of track EQ is pretty basic so it gets the job done . It's also familiarity and in some of my templates. You can do everything with Kirchhoff though and it has more features like analog emulations and more control over the dynamic EQ than ProQ3 and Kirchhoff gets very surgical if you need it and sounds really good even with pretty extreme curves / cuts.

  16. You might be new around here. So I will give you the benefit of the doubt. Larry, who has given many of us so many great deals, he's known as the King around here. He post lots of deals, every day, that help others get deals they otherwise would have missed. The reason he doesn't post the prices is probably to save himself a little time. And the majority of us around here have learned to accept this as part of the deal we get. BTW I went to the site. As I was gonna post the prices. But there really is too many choices. You curious? Join everyplugin.com and get to know Koby.

  17. I am fine with its GUI. But its small and hard to use on my setup. But if you read the manual on how to use it, It's an amazingly designed software synth. miles better than anything NI has released recently IMO.

  18. This isn't really a deal. Hopefully no one goes crazy with posting drawings and contests.

  19. Purchase of this freebie would make it the 2nd most expensive reverb plugin I've ever bought (meldaMTurbo). And I have a fairly respectable collection of verbs. (and also not going to happen)

  20. Nope, it's quite thin and synth-y. Then again, so is their $500 Atomic Big Band. Also Larry, everything on their site is on sale, the trumpet and trombone are at their lowest price ever, and all the brass and sax instruments at least are Kontakt Player unlike you stated.

  23. $170 for an in the box eq is simply too much given the alternatives. Yes, I like the interface better but that is about it. I wouldn't pay $100 for KEQ either but it can be had for a lot less.

  26. That's a crazy deal. Since picking up FM7 (then later FM8) I stopped using my DX7IIFD because it/they just nailed the sounds of my patches.

  27. wow. that is an insane deal on one of the best instruments there ever was. its not updated and i think it might be NI legacy abandonware, but if you have no need for new gui and are using an older system and dont have komplete, this is amazing

  28. My eyes are seeing "Suggested Specs" not "Minimum Requirements." In my personal experience, SONAR/Cakewalk has traditionally worked with less than what is usually suggested. Of course, in the past, with less than that, users may not be able to "push the limits," but in my experience the software's features do work with less than what has been suggested. I am not going to jump to another DAW just because I do not have the suggested specs.

  29. Now only if they'd start throwing in those 20 bucks off vouchers, like they did in May.

  30. There will definitely be new features, and a fair few have already been baked. How many more we'll be able to implement before release is limited by the effort taken in the new UI work.

  31. This is weird territory. Do I own my voice? If someone decides to replicate my voice to create a hit record (I'm Britney y'all!), do I get a slice of the pie? Do I get the whole pie if it is done without my consent?

  34. An interesting article was posted today about Jane Friedman finding fake books "written" by her being sold on Amazon (of all places). It will be interesting to see in the coming years how many artistic fakes get pedaled, and how that will be countered.

  36. There are MIDI files and Cubase and Protools project files in c:\ProgramData\SynfulOrchestra\Examples for some of the demos including the string quartet.

  37. That's par for the course with pretty much any orchestral library. They don't sound anywhere near the demos until the music are mixed well.

  38. Hello to all my CW friends! It has been a hectic summer for me, but I managed to get one project finished. This is a song that I wrote and posted on the old song forum in 2014. Since then, I remixed it with fresh, new tools and filmed this video just a few weeks ago. I admit that it's rough, in fact, the raw footage is SO rough that I had to dress it up with various f/x to hide the poor lighting and staging. This should probably be seen as a first cut, no more. However, it's gritty enough to convey a sense of urgency which is what I was looking for, more or less. It is a wide-open book, just waiting for your input. As always, much gratitude for your time and patience. This song was inspired by the old saying "the devil made me do it", nothing else.

  41. Yeah, that makes sense. Uh... yes. I also settle for expensive top-of-the-industry EQs when I'm just doing some basic stuff. I have never demoed ProQ but this has been my impression from other people. I have pretty much removed FabFilter from my must-have list a long time ago, since this is just a hobby for me and I already have Kircchoff and plenty of other plugins. Thanks for the info!

  42. The soundcard is not involved either way. CbB creates a virtual hardware bus for each hardware output on the interface (hidden by default but viewable in the Console by dragging the splitter at the far right to the left), and uses this to mix down if the Source for the export/bounce is Hardware Outputs or Entire Mix (all hardware outputs combined). Like Glenn, I don't know why you would have problem exporting some or all hardware ouputs, but I always recommend exporting with Source = Buses, and only the Master selected so you don't have trouble with something like a headphone mix on another hardware out getting included in the export.

  43. I didn't test the VX, but last night I spent more time with the Goyo and found that it was fooled and dramatically lowered the volume of the vocal I applied it to on two notes that were low, very breathy notes. I imagine that the VX would probably get fooled by the same thing, but I'll try it out this weekend and share the results here. To Brian's point above, he's right about this basically being an extended trial. The startup has raised a good deal of cash and I would expect they're going to be charging for this plugin as soon as they do an official release, and we have no idea what their pricing would be like. If it's under $50, I'd very likely pick this up. If it's $100 or more or is on subscription, I'm out. But after using it, I really like it and want to check out the Waves plugin for comparison. One thing that surprised me was that I found Goyo pretty light on resources and I wasn't expecting that. I believe my RX8 is more resource intensive. I put the Goyo on a vocal track in a project with around 32 instances of KONTAKT libraries and was still able to play keys without much latency. I don't think that would be the case with RX8. Did you compare Goyo vs VX in terms of computer resources?

  44. What? Oh man. I loved that guy. I lived in Germany for a few years in the 80's. There was nothing English language anywhere. Just radio BBC World Service, Radio FREE Europe, and an occasional copy of the Herald Tribune. BUT.. for some reason, I inherited a copy of Peewee's Big Adventure IN ENGLISH on video and was given a TV and a VCR. Mates. I loved that movie. It gave me great hope and happiness in bad times.

  45. Honestly, I'd pay for it as is. But I sure hope they didn't break it to make it look and act like everything else. The only thing that I find that's even close for my work flow is Cubase. Even that has some crucial problems for me. Probably my own fault for using one DAW for 30 years. I'm not scared to use the free version as long as possible if the new Sonar changes too much. Hell...I used Pro Audio 5 for about a decade because it did exactly what I needed it to do. But that was a lot easier to do in an era where you could avoid OS updates and you never let your machine on the internet.
