  3. Personally, I love this plugin. It's true that you can get the same results by doing everything yourself with EQ, so it's not something I reach for often. But if you've tried EQ'ing yourself and you're still struggling trying to get something to fit in the mix, it can save you hours of tweaking.

  4. Key word is if... you can probably get close with MAutoDynamicEQ but not sure how close. With MAutoDynamicEQ you can split the audio into up to 8 bands (as I recall), Trackspacer has 32 bands. I haven't A/B'd them to check and see if that really makes an audible difference or if one is more of a hassle to set up than the other. Here's a Chandler video on setting up MAutoDynamicEQ to do this kind of frequency masking with a couple of examples. He's choosing to use only one band in his example which I think would have less than optimal results with material whose frequency spectrum varied over time or if you were trying to use it with fitting vocals over a whole mix; but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Anyway... more information to complicate your buying decision.

  5. I hope everybody on this forum can forgive me for the way I started my earlier thread on how we will be informed about the new products. I was wrong to gravitate to that level. Peace to all 😀John B

  6. 77% off across most of the soundpool catalog (only newly released soundpools are excluded) https://producerplanet.com/us/audio/loops-samples-250/?salesOnly=true&sort=priority&label[]=magix What makes this a pretty nice deal is that if you launch Magix Music Maker, in the scrolling ads at the top of the "shop" page there is a link to a survey about your use of MMM, and at the end of the survey you will get 2 vouchers for up to $10 Combined with the current sale it means that you can end up getting for free 2 "large" soundpools (or 2-part soundpool collections) with unrestricted commercial licensing. Note that you will need to change the license option when buying (don't leave it at the default non-commercial). Note that producerplanet vouchers can only be applied to the purchase of a single product, and any remaining value is lost. The vouchers are valid until 13/08/2023.

  7. From what I understand they are not the same thing. Picture this - you have a vocal where the de-esser kicks in 10% of the time. Now you drop the gain on the track - other de-essers will now kick in much less because the track is quieter but the detection threshold is still the same. With relative threshold you still have it kicking in 10% of the time because threshold is relative to content not a set threshold triggering level. So this way your quieter vocals sections aren't more sibilant than the loud ones. At least that's what I'm gleaming from what the video was saying.

  10. Anyone else remember this group? To be honest, I had totally forgotten about Atomic Rooster myself, until I saw the previous contribution to the song chain. The Wikipedia Page for Atomic Rooster can be found here. Here's a synopsis for those who don't want to read the whole page:

  13. With sidechaining enabled, I take it? Tell me more about how you set it up. As much as I my policy is usually "try to do it with my Meldaproduction FX first," there are exceptions, and Trackspacer is one of them. I have every effect that Meldaproduction has ever made (also, eventually, ever will make 😋), plus iZotope Music Production Suite 5, and nothing (so far) touches Trackspacer for fast, good-sounding results. Attractive, clean UI in standard mode, just the right amount of access to advanced parameters if you want. It's so easy and quick it still feels like cheating after all these years. 😄 There are some plug-ins that are industry standards for good reason, and after demoing them, I ended up setting aside "I can do this with my existing collection of plug-ins." XLN's RC-20 is another one.

  14. Feeling more positive today. We have a candidate for our new guitarist coming over next Tuesday. Fingers crossed. Plus the new PA arrived today. I set it up all by myself despite my bum foot. Of course, I had to have a little sit-down afterward. And this is cool...those speaker poles have pneumatic lifts in them, strong enough to raise the speakers by themselves. However, I haven't yet figured out how to get them back down. In a couple weeks I'll start playing keyboards through the PA instead of separate amplifiers, so I had to set them up today to test that configuration. And yes, Bapu, that means I have instruments here (at least until Friday) and can now add a part to the new Citizen Regen project.

  15. Sorry guys, I think this thread is asking for some high emotions and attracting harsh words by leaving it open. I'm gonna lock it. I think at the heart of it there was some nice sentiments and steps to make things right overall, and I think the OP question was answered to the best of our knowledge for now. The bottom line is we just still have to wait and see. I'm absolutely sure we won't be left in the dark once the new products drop - it's a commercial product now, they have to sell it, right? Just one final note, let's all be a little mindful that there's a person on the other end of these forum posts, and a bit of respect and empathy goes a long way. There's a reason I've kept coming back to this place year after year, and it's this amazing and knowledgeable community, so it would be a shame for anyone to feel like they're being excluded from this killer resource. Anyway, lockage ahoy! Cheers, all.

  17. I was inquiring about MAutoDynamicEQ, not Trackspacer. I've never used Trackspacer on a full mix; the more things you're ducking with it the more likely you are to hear it working, which you aren't supposed to. The way I see its job is to reduce collisions between instruments rather than to carve out a space for one instrument in a full mix. I use it on things like guitar vs. synths, where I have one or more synths that are stepping on the guitar(s). What I do in that situation is that (if I don't already have one) I create a bus for Synths. Then I insert Trackspacer in the FX Rack of the Synths bus. On the guitar track (or bus, depending), I create a send, with Trackspacer as the destination. Then set the large center knob on Trackspacer for the amount of ducking I want. A good starting place is to apply it until I can hear the process of the synths being ducked, then back off a bit and finalize. (that took way longer to type than it does to actually get Trackspacer set up) That is a fine concept for a mixer who can choose his bass and kick sounds from an endless menu before he starts trying to get them to fit together. For people who are working with "a 22-inch cylinder with a plastic membrane stretched across it, hit with a felt hammer operated by someone's foot, recorded with a microphone" vs. "a steel wire plucked by someone's finger exciting a magnetic transducer," there will more often be situations where the sounds will overlap and become indistinct. If I'm creating a song from the ground up with complete control over what sounds I'm using (synthetic), I'll usually just pick and choose the source sounds so that they won't interfere with each other. I hadn't thought about it, but I guess my compositional brain kind of does that automatically. I imagine that Mr. Mau5 works the same way. In electronic genres, you can have way different kick and bass sounds on each song. If it's a rock song with guitar, bass, keys and drums, and the band have a signature sound they want to get across, it's a much different process. Trackspacer is a problem solver. Of course it's best to avoid problems as far upstream as possible.

  20. Setup is an absolute breeze. You drop it on the track you want to duck. Open the plugin and choose the track you want to drive the ducking from a drop down list then adjust the effect knob on Trackspacer until you get the sound you want. Piece of cake!

  21. I appreciate the friendly step forward there, John I think we all have crappy days and sometimes don't make the best decisions when posting - I've certainly been there! Written word is notorious for being taken out of context too; it can be hard to read the tone of something when it's just pixels on a screen. English sometimes isn't a first language, and communication skills for these kind of places can really differ a lot from person to person too. Like I mentioned in the other locked thread, I think we all just need to keep in mind that there's an actual person on the other end of these posts. Listen, I know sometimes some people who respond to my posts are intentionally taking them the wrong way just to troll - forums are like that, even the good ones like this place, and I've been admin/mod on forums for the last 25+ years... I've seen the best and the worst of this stuff - but I'll go out of my way to give the poster the benefit of the doubt just in case it's one of those scenarios above that I mentioned. Let's all try to be mindful and show some empathy, and keep this place as friendly and inclusive as it can be!

  24. Though one thing one should not forget with all these automatic tools: If you want to handle the frequency clash of 2 tracks (e.g. Bass and Kick), then it is advisable first to reduce some frequencies of the sidechain track IMHO. Otherwise the sound of the target track is reduced too much! What I want to say: The man behind the mix still has to decide whether the bass or the kick should occupy the lowest frequencies!

  25. I think I had the Free/Pro bundle upgrade and MModernCompressor. It was like having bought a sedan and then having the dealer drop off an inverted hovercraft to get me interested in future vehicles. Oddly enough, it worked, although I struggled at first to "get a handle" on MSpectralDelay rather than just tossing it on a letting it do its thing. Something I find is that unlike with say, Glitchmachines or Unfiltered Audio, Meldaproduction's "lab equipment" look encourages me to look at their FX as surgically precise tools, while the truth is there's plenty of weird sound-design-y warpy wibblly wubbly fun to be had there, even in the FreeFX bundle. Throw MComb on a drum mix some time with one of those presets with the moving filters.

  31. Hi Glenn, Cakewalk has an articulation screen that I never have used, it doesn't make sense based on the way I work. I didn't comment on key switches because I use them rarely, only when working with one of the vocal sample libraries I have. As far as the way use articulations, I have a dedicated computer for my VSL library, it can hold a huge amount of samples in RAM so whenever I need a new articulation i just call it up using cc22 and cc33. When I want to change, for example, a crescendo to a decrescendo, I use cc44. Control changes work well for me, so I use them extensively. Or when I want to go from a col legno to a normal pizz, I call up that articulation using CCs. In the article in SoundBytes that you mentioned that image of the CW event list displays what I am talking about. The more detail you put into your sequence, the better the music will sound. Velocity changes, articulation changes, attack and release times, tempos, cc11 and cc7--the more of these MIDI commands you use, the more expressive, intentional and nuanced the music will sound. Remember, too, there's no one right approach to working with music technology. For me the most important thing are results, . For every technique I use to create my recordings, another composer may use a different technique to achieve the same thing. That speaks to the incredible flexibility of software. Thanks for commenting Glenn! Jerry

  35. That's an interesting way to put it." Stable Version". The first release of Next we would assume and hope will stable as they are building it from the ground up. Once people get to test it we will no doubt find a few "bugs" Bugs and Stable are 2 different things with software. Example the currant version of Cakewalk is very stable. The only way to crash it is to use an incompatible Plug in or use a pour quality audio interface and drivers. But there's always a few bugs lurking. Bugs don't necessarily make software unstable, they just cripple features. When it was Sonar Platinum it had hundreds of bugs and it was more unstable. Now it not only stable but has only a few very minor bugs that hopefully will be killed in the upcoming final release. Any left over bugs will have to be fixed in Sonar.

  36. An easy way to gain space up there is use the Short cut C. To hid the control bar. You will be surprised at what gets done without it. And when you need it just press C again. Working on laptops I find keyboard shortcuts are more important. Especially D for multi dock I made a video about using 1 screen

  43. Had a bunch of Harley Benton guitars....can recommend their Custom series. I have a DC custom that is just built like a tank, plays great....came with Grover tuners, Graphtec nut and Wilkinson pu's / hardware....paid 129 for it...? Their 'cheaper' series I find not so great....and need a lot of setup/fret work. Personally I would spend 100 more on fe an Ibanez Artcore then. https://www.thomannmusic.com/ibanez_am53_srf_artcore.htm
