  7. This is my cover of ELO's song, "Can't Get It Out Of My Head." It's my second draft on the mix and I would be grateful for any insights on how to improve the mix (beyond, get a better singer! Hahaha!). Thanks in advance for your advice and constructive criticism. EDIT: I deleted the originally linked file and replaced it with a link to the latest mixed version of the song.

  11. Gave a quick test spin, sounds pretty good for a free one. Blending between the two algos is a nice feature and would certainly be cool if they added more to it like the actual pedal. Resizable and simplistic. Indeed, a little questionable using a name so well known. That said, it is also really easy to remember because of it.

  12. Zo, Here is some additional info. Layered patches will have multiple TABS that indicate the instrument layers. Most of the instruments I looked at seemed to use only one layer but you can filter the search results to show the Programs that are using multiple layers. Take a look at these screengrabs. You can see here that LAYERED is added as a filter in the Mediabay browser. And here is a program that contains multiple layers, I think you can have up to 4. I hope that helps, Simeon

  17. Sound Forge was one of my favorite pieces of software, back in the days of Sonic Foundry. The developers were very active on the web, and participated in the old Cakewalk newsgroup. I seem to remember a nice fellow named Peter Haller (?) - that may have been during the early Sony days, though. I kind of missed Sound Forge when I switched to Mac but when it was eventually ported, I 'd found an alternative, and did not really have a use for an audio editor all that much anyway. Glad I did not buy it because they seem to have discontinued that Mac version. Didn't know Acid still was being developped. As revolutionary as it was when it came out, with looping available in every DAW, I'm not sure what's its place in the current market. The advertised regular price tag seems beyond ridiculous.

  19. Sure, just grab the image above and drag it to your desktop. Then open your favorite theme in Theme Editor. Click on Browser, then Plug-in Browser. Scroll to Plug-in Tree Icons and right click it. Select Import and navigate to the downloaded image. Select it and click Open. Save the theme and load it in Preferences. These are also color-coded to match CbB's dropdown lists used elsewhere. BTW you can't save the theme if it's the current theme and CbB is open. Just switch themes, save this one in Theme Editor, then switch back.

  20. Okay, I just tried the FAST Compressor demo. The interface is incredibly dumbed down and allowed me to to quickly try three settings (I think they were warm, neutral and bright) and it sounded good. In other words, SOLD!

  23. I just got their cheaper EVO 4 interface. Miles ahead of my 1st gen Scarlett in sound quality, noise level, ASIO driver performance, latency... Plus the guitar input with a JFET really brings amp sims to live. Didn't know what I was missing.

  25. As a keyboard player I record all of my keyboard tracks to Midi Tracks... I use to record them to Audio Tracks back in the day of tape recorders... Then I bought a Yamaha SY85 (93), A computer (95) and a DAW, Cakewalk Pro Audio 7 (98) and I have recorded my Keyboards to Midi ever since... I have some projects that have 30 or more Midi Tracks and not a single Audio Clip, go to the Audio Folder and it is empty... Also have some that have all Audio Tracks and no Midi Tracks (Guitar songs...)... On my computer I have more Midi Outputs than I have Audio Outputs... I can send an Audio Track to "any" Output, to 5 or 6 Outputs or more, to a Stereo Bus, to even more Buses, to an Aux Track, to a side chain of a plug-in, I can create a "New" Bus... But I can only send a Midi Track to "One" single Output or Soft Synth... If I want to send the same track to another source, be it a Midi Effect, a Soft Synth, another Keyboard (I have more than one...) I have to duplicate the track... And then maybe even duplicate it again and again if I an doing a large string arrangement... It would be so nice to be able to send a Midi Track to a Midi FX on an Aux Track, or just an Aux Track or to another Midi Output or two with a little "Send" knob... Apparently Cubase has this feature, I don't know, I don't use Cubase... I have Cubase, it came with my Yamaha Motif XF ten years ago... I installed it, use it for about half of a song project and then uninstalled it... Did not like it... I love Cakewalk, been using it for about 25 years, Pro Audio 7, about the time Noel joined the Cakewalk team... It would be great if the Bakers could add Midi Sends and Midi Aux Tracks to CflatB... Midi Tracks deserve the same respect that Audio Tracks get...

  28. We interupt this thread with an important Public Service Announcement !!! If you have ever wanted to keep your girlfriend , wife or adult daughter safe at home, I caution you to keep this important message in mind . Under no circumstance are you to ever play music from this artist or this song for the women in your life ... Here's the concrete proof of how women have been generaly known to react to his singing and looks . Now lf on the other hand , you happen to like the adventure of sneaking in your newley purchased musical equipment on the downlow into your studio . All done with out the watchful eye of your signifacant other keeping track of your music budget , Then by all means crank up your studio monitors and play "the warden " a tune sung by Geoff. Gentlemen I can assure you that you will thank me someday in the near future for the wisdom of this "sound musical advice " Your signifacant other will have been way too distracted to have noticed you have just snuck in 3 new Strats , a Les Paul and a brand new mixer into your studio .😉 Kenny

  31. I thought of some of them on the gig. We aim to entertain. We play music seriously, and have serious fun doing just that. If the audience is right, between the songs silliness reigns supreme. And in our outdoor midday gig, the audience is almost always ready for some giggles or groans. Mrs. Notes and I have the best job in the world, play music and goof off between the songs. Notes ♫

  36. Have had nothing but problems with the EVO 16. Bought it for a secondary studio in another country I work in. (Having an RME UFX in main studio back home). Some of the worst / buggiest software I've ever experienced in a hardware unit. Firmware upgrades have made it worse and worse over the last year as well. This thing has bugged out on volume settings multiple times and blasted 100% volume through the speakers - and then freezes requiring pulling the plug to reset. Out of all the bugs I've experienced this is one that should NEVER happen. Ever. In any audio hardware unit. Period. It's what I get for buying a rushed product with poor quality control. Seeing that they're dropping their prices further only guarantees Q&A will get much worse.

  37. I have a UA Apollo that allows me to put a guitar amp sim in the hi-z input, thereby getting a matching impedance that the guitar needs, amp sims have a much better response. I haven't looked back either!!

  38. Can I crowd source this decision? I'm writing this, expecting that many others have similar questions.* *See DrumDude's question and it was compelling enough to him to be his first post; @DrumDude welcome to the forum, from one drummer to another. While I've been making multitrack demos since I was a kid, I still don't know much about mixing or mastering -- while I recorded in pro studios as a drummer, the most involvement I had with mixing was engineers asking me if I liked the mix or wanted things adjusted -- and rely on Izotope's suite of tools. I use Nectar on vocals, Neoverb as a reverb (I own plenty of other non-AI reverbs and effects too, but I don't know how to use them beyond presets and my tweaking those presets in the most clueless manner), Izotope's compressor (though I am only starting to figure out how to use it as anyone hearing my recordings can tell) and Ozone for mastering. I've tried using Izotope on the entire mix and hated the results, so I still do the overall mix by ear. So I was contemplating buying the Fast Series plugins to use their AI to give me additional options (e.g., if I'm not satisfied with the results I get from Izotope's tool, I would run it through Fast's AI tool). For $39.99 USD, they seem decent and it may give me different results than Izotope's similar tools that I may prefer -- but having a second option seems like a good idea overall. What do those more experienced / knowledgeable on mixing think? @cclarry, I've heard your stuff and can tell you know what you're doing just from listening to that, what do you think? Thanks in advance!

  40. VST 3 is newer, an updated version and format. 2 will continue to work as designed for most of us. You don't "need" both of them, but if you have a lot of projects using 2 and you delete it from your computer, things will happen.

  49. Exactly. Yep. Well said. I have used Band In A Box to write and create songs. I have used EZ Keys to write and create songs. The songs I created with these programs (guess we could refer to them as "beats") I would have never come up with on my guitar. And I have attempted to write what I call "orchestral" music in CbB using several different programs that generate midi notes/rhythms. These "works" are pleasing to me. All in an attempt to get something inside of me out so that others may experience it, and hopefully enjoy it. Which brings me back to what Rain said, "at the end of the day, if the song is good..." I will add "who cares how it was created" And just to be clear I don't understand a lot of the new ways of making music. And like Starship Krupa said "I have no disrespect for any method used to create music". I just sit back and try to take it all in. Some I like. And some.....
