  1. @scook (who else?) has unearthed a file that I've been searching for for literally years: The Alesion Arps . He's been kind enough to host it for download by the Cakewalk user community. The link is to the top level of Steve's page, because it has a bunch of other stuff that Cakewalk users should know about. It's the first link on the page. These were created in the late (lamented by many) Project5, by a user only identified as "b rock." The website goes into greater detail about the theory behind the creation (and possible application) of these patterns. They were apparently derived from the patterns built into a certain (unnamed) Alesis hardware synth. To install them for use with Cakewalk, place the Alesion ARP Presets folder from the .ZIP in your C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Core\Arpeggiator Patterns\ folder. The next time you start Cakewalk and open the built-in arpeggiator's preset browser, you'll see the new folder, and within it will be 33 subfolders, each with 15 or more new arpeggiator patterns to use. Wish we could edit them, but for now we can at least double the number of ones available to us.

  2. Such a weird company. They don't add anything to Addictive Drums for years and years and years. Nothing new to buy. Then they recently introduced four packs for XO. So I felt, "Oh I get it. They see XO as their future." But since then, there has been no more XO packs. It has been a while. And these are not labor-intensive for XLN to create, as they are programmed by outside artists. Get the patterns and hire a graphic designer to do the art. But no. I am very deep into Addictive Drums, because I like the sound. Aside from that, it seems like they are turning to new customers and demanding that they buy from Toontrack instead. Or even ujam, with their excellent Beatmakers. Any company that appears to still be in business, moving forward. In general, I feel that most existing drum programs are aimed at the 50+ crowd. 60s -80s Rock. Jazz. How long has Toontrack been making stuff and they have a single EDM pack? Toontrack and XLN have ceded the business for "new" styles of music (ie maybe only 20 or 30 years old) to sample packs and ujam. And this is why I felt XO was an excellent path forward for XLN. Put a toe into the non-codger/geezer market. But they have a very long way to go to fill in those blanks. I guess they pooped out with four packs. Time to take a long, long snooze. Wake me up in 2025 maybe. Compare that with Audiomodern. They introduce a new Playbeat 3 pack (mostly free) practically every two months. In no time it will be quite a collection, most of which will come free at time of purchase. And the two paid ones are super-expensive--five bucks! It's also now my favorite drum machine. Really exciting state-of-the-art tech. AI intelligent randomizing that slaughters Sample Logic IMHO, as far as drums go. It's one thing to randomize, and something else to come up with what is truly musically useful. Soon it will be the standard for young musicians and the future. Don't get me wrong, I think XO is a great program with a lot of potential. But imagine what Omnisphere would be today without all these brilliant programmers making patches for it. They continue to make it shiny and new by showing what is possible. I think that companies like Audiomodern and the Cube people understand this very well by putting out their own free packs.

  3. Well now that you mention it....... I have decided that I'm going to take a break from attention seeking because I'm fed up with all the attention and also the lack of it. I'm going to spend my time off making a series of videos on how not to seek attention and will post them on a day by day basis as soon as they are finished. Unfortunately none of you non attention payers will ever see them, but that is your loss. I don't need the attention of people who are not paying attention. I'm only interested in people who are paying attention and to those people I would like to say...........just leave me alone will you ?

  4. I really don't understand people complaining that vst instruments/plugins are not updated all the time! I am glad if plugins are stable and do their job perfectly! On the contrary there are some developers that I have marked red, because I feel that their newest updates just bring instability, performance issues and permanent update chore. And there are more and more that get on my list! 😆 For them I prefer definitely to stay on older versions!

  6. Have you tried Riffstation Pro (free now)? It has a slow/fast knob. Was previously sold by Fender. https://www.techradar.com/news/fenders-riffstation-pro-is-now-free-get-the-chords-for-any-song-on-your-desktop Download here: https://www.filehorse.com/download-riffstation/ The Riffstation 1.6.3 download here has the same file hash as the installer that I archived 4 years ago. All good on VirusTotal as well. It's end-of-life and not developed anymore, so YMMV. It still loads on Win10 though. Slow down knob for free!

  7. I wrote him when I saw this in his feed the other day. Time away is not selfish - it’s self-care. I don’t understand the grind of a streamer/content creator. So much work to create a product but YOU are the product. That doesn’t scale well and is very vulnerable to outside forces such as illness or your platform changing the rules. The fact that when he returns the algorithms will ding him for his absence is case in point. His videos are some of the best out there but I wonder if there’s a way he can apply his talents in a manner that can generate revenue in a more durable way. What he did for Spirfire recently is amazin and I’d love to see him get his own libraries out there. Cameron is a gifted dude and I hope he finds a balance in his life.

  10. He is an amazing content creator. When you have been cranking out the videos like he has been doing, I can understand the need to take a break. Your emotional bandwidth can really take a beating without those periodic respites. I took one of those days today and it was extraordinarily fun! Oh, yeah and lots of screaming (the good kind)!

  11. Mentioned Riffstation Pro in the deCoda thread, but thought it might need a topic of its own. Old news perhaps, but it's been a few years... No longer maintained, but appears to still work. YMMV. Edit: Here's the download link that works > https://www.filehorse.com/download-riffstation/

  12. Some PCs may have a combination input/output similar to iOS devices and some macOS computers, but you'd need something like ASIO4ALL as mentioned to get any reasonably useful semblance of proper latency etc. Plus the sound quality will not be even close to something like iRig HD 2 (also mentioned above) since there's a digital connection there thus much better sound quality vs running both input and output through a headphone combo jack. If you were even able to get it working... This is why we do not list Windows in the Specs/requirements for iRig 2. Nor even Mac computers, even though you have a much better chance of strangling it into working there https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/irig2/index.php?p=specs

  13. Like you, I really like the sound of AD, but I'm getting to where I use it less because it's starting to feel a bit like abandonware, although I think they added VST3 support recently, so that's a step forward. If they'd show it just a little more love I'd feel a lot better about it.

  16. Seems there have been some questions or has been some confusion about whether this is intended to replace AmpliTube 5 or at least how it is different so I figured this reply that we've posted as a response to that might be helpful here too: AmpliTube and TONEX are two different products using different technologies: AmpliTube is made using analog modeling technology while TONEX uses a new technology called AI machine modeling ( https://www.amplitube.com/ai ). While analog modeling simulates the behavior of the whole circuit of the amp - with all the knobs, switches, buttons and their interactions - AI machine modeling gives an ultra-realistic simulation of the rig with a specific knob settings. So it's not that one technology is "better" than the other, it depends of what the final user's needs are: full editing and customization versus accuracy in getting a specific sound. Using them together gives of course the best of both worlds and a super-powerful amp-sim system. The two products are also different because AmpliTube can simulate the entire set up used in guitar recording (multiple serial and parallel rigs combining amps, all type of stomp effects, post effects, cabinets and microphones, etc.. with full editing down to the single gear), while TONEX is dedicated to simulates just amp, cabinets and certain type of pedals (distortions, overdrive, fuzz, EQ, boost) in each of their combinations. However TONEX can be used inside AmpliTube, as a sub-system of amps and pedals, again to have the best of both worlds.

  18. I loooove the sound of the Wurlitzer electric piano AKA the Wurli. My mother was a musician and music teacher who worked for Wurlitzer and we had one in our music room growing up and I absolutely loved it -- and still love the sound of it today. Consequently, I own several Wurlitzer sample libraries and had to download this freebie when I came across it on Pianobook. Its creator calls it the WörliTzer. What I found is that the musician who sampled it did a really good job and there are several very nice presets. Even better, for folks who don't own KONTAKT and those on a tight budget, the library is formatted for the free Decent Sampler. So everyone can enjoy this. https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/wrlitzer/

  19. The best is in the ear of the beholder. To each his own. If you already have AD2 installed, you can explore the different kits and listen to the preset demos from the main AD2 GUI. The advantage that way is that you will hear the presets through your audio gear. A lot of them are heavily effected, so any available dry sounds should indicate what base sounds you are actually getting with a kit, and the weird stuff shows off possibilities with FX. If you don't have AD2 yet, the website has a demo version of the Fairfax Vol 1 ADpack. The core AD2 software is included with all ADpacks. https://www.xlnaudio.com/demos Also there's a lot of audio demo clips of the various kits at XLN Audio.

  27. Some of their pricing is pretty hard to beat and quite a few of the plugins I have from United Plugins are REALLY good. Royal Compressor is a weapon on the drum buss, or anywhere that you want to add some flavour and I love. FrontDAW gets a lot of use and is so simple as a pre to dial in some mojo. I'll probably skip this particular one as I have Eventide, SoundToys, Melodyne and now VariAudio built into Cubase Pro 12, along with basic Antares. So for tuning and vocal effects I'm well covered. Agreed on the video, I thought the same thing. Although with so many companies, I wouldn't even consider buying them after watching some of the videos, only to try them out for myself and find that they just make crap demos! (same goes with presets for instruments)

  32. @PavlovsCat I appreciate your kind words and I'm glad you like the way we run things in our communities... it's definitely had to evolve and adapt over the years as we've grown and I still feel we could do better to make valuable, friendly places to hang out. I've had run-ins with a few other affiliate guys, not including the chap from the other thread, and there are definitely a few who go about things in ways I do not agree with at all. I did actually touch on it in a blog post I wrote a while back where I came close to giving it all up but instead decided to just focus more on the things that mattered and delegate a bit more so I didn't burn myself out! On which note... I'm off for a little vacation. (Though I'll still be around, as always!) ❤️

  35. I guess this is finally my chance to switch over to AD from SD2. It's time I updated my SD2 (and I don't even have many packs with it either), and in reading about ease of use and quality of sound w/ AD (and price vs Toontrack pricing) I'm gonna go ahead and change over to AD all together and leave Toontrack behind, no offense to Toontrack. What are the best Adpacks to get? I'd probably get the 6 pack, but maybe the 10 pack if I really needed all that. I know I want Reel Machines, and I like big hard rock and grunge doom type drum sounds, so I'm seeing that 70's kit there.

  37. Modelled pianos like Pianoteq also have better velocity response, Pianoteq responds to all 127 velocities, sampled pianos have usually up to about 16 velocity layers, also sampled instruments sometimes tend to knock off that all important first part of the note, really noticeable on guitar sampled libraries but also noticeable on piano libraries, some do better than others.
