  1. @PavlovsCat made some great points about the nature of these services and how the whole affiliate thing influences their approach. I agree and actually have a bit of a love/hate relationship with affiliate marketing. From one side, it's a great way for creators to earn a few pennies from their work, which is how I came to it after starting the home studio blog that preceded Audio Plugin Guy. From the other side, there are many out there who are only in it for the money and set up services that claim to help you find deals but almost exclusively spam you with affiliate links. Or put out glowing reviews for substandard products just to get their cut *ahem MIDI chord pack reviewers ahem*. Those guys bug me! The approach I take with Audio Plugin Guy and plugindeals.net is to put the service to our community first. So, whilst you will find affiliate links for Plugin Boutique and others amongst our deals lists, we aim to share all the deals we come across, which includes offers direct from devs and exclusives at non-affiliated resellers. The APG reviews are for products that excite myself and our writers, and therefore hopefully our readers. I also like to help highlight new indie devs. Affiliate stuff doesn't come into those decisions at all. So hopefully I come down on the right side of the line with all that. 🙂 For the record, affiliate commission is "ok" across all the stuff we've got going on but most goes to covering hosting, paying for the database and automation services that keep everything running, and paying writers and coders. I certainly couldn't make a living from it (not with a house and two kids, anyway!) and rely on my "real" job for that. ❤️

  2. Seems there have been some questions or has been some confusion about whether this is intended to replace AmpliTube 5 or at least how it is different so I figured this reply that we've posted as a response to that might be helpful here too: AmpliTube and TONEX are two different products using different technologies: AmpliTube is made using analog modeling technology while TONEX uses a new technology called AI machine modeling ( https://www.amplitube.com/ai ). While analog modeling simulates the behavior of the whole circuit of the amp - with all the knobs, switches, buttons and their interactions - AI machine modeling gives an ultra-realistic simulation of the rig with a specific knob settings. So it's not that one technology is "better" than the other, it depends of what the final user's needs are: full editing and customization versus accuracy in getting a specific sound. Using them together gives of course the best of both worlds and a super-powerful amp-sim system. The two products are also different because AmpliTube can simulate the entire set up used in guitar recording (multiple serial and parallel rigs combining amps, all type of stomp effects, post effects, cabinets and microphones, etc.. with full editing down to the single gear), while TONEX is dedicated to simulates just amp, cabinets and certain type of pedals (distortions, overdrive, fuzz, EQ, boost) in each of their combinations. However TONEX can be used inside AmpliTube, as a sub-system of amps and pedals, again to have the best of both worlds.

  4. I loooove the sound of the Wurlitzer electric piano AKA the Wurli. My mother was a musician and music teacher who worked for Wurlitzer and we had one in our music room growing up and I absolutely loved it -- and still love the sound of it today. Consequently, I own several Wurlitzer sample libraries and had to download this freebie when I came across it on Pianobook. Its creator calls it the WörliTzer. What I found is that the musician who sampled it did a really good job and there are several very nice presets. Even better, for folks who don't own KONTAKT and those on a tight budget, the library is formatted for the free Decent Sampler. So everyone can enjoy this. https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/wrlitzer/

  5. BTW, on a related note to the controversy that a user started in this thread, I think it's a major reflection of one of the things I greatly appreciated about Larry's deal threads. These guys are only in it for sales commissions for deals they post. So they're more focused on deals where they get a kickback (affiliate marketing $$$). Larry didn't use affiliate marketing links. Larry wasn't only showing you deals he made money on and ignoring or downplaying deals he didn't make money on as these affiliate sales deals and YouTube infuencer "reviewer" folks do; Larry didn't make money on any of those deals. He shared deals because he enjoyed doing so -- he enjoyed making this a really valuable community. And that is one of the major reasons I so greatly appreciate Larry. The guy who entered this thread just to bully Peter shares deals to make money. And there's nothing unethical about that, but his mean spirited bullying and attack mentality is, no doubt, a reflection of greed. Larry was only sharing deals to be a good and helpful member of the community and I think it's clear that he has been a great and incredibly important member of this community.

  6. This was mentioned in another thread which went a bit wayward (for unrelated reasons) and was closed down so I figured I'd start a new one so I can respond to feedback and maybe get some more. So here's the news... We have just gone public with a beta of our new Plugin Reseller Price Check service on plugindeals.net. Whilst this is pretty complicated under the hood with automated daily site scraping connected to a huge database which is then sorted and updated on the site twice a day, the front end is pretty simple to use. It's basically a list of thousands of products along with their current prices at a number of top resellers. The list can be very quickly filtered by category, developer, or product name. It's still in beta as there is still some manual work to do connecting the reseller data up to the main product list and removing duplicates, among other things. But it is mostly in a good place. There are caveats, as with all any service like this, such as the fact that prices are in USD and may change when converted to your local currency. There are also differences in taxes depending on where you are. The data also takes at up to 24 hours to get up-to-date so new price changes may not appear immediately. The list is not intended to be used in isolation and works best alongside the ULTIMATE Plugin Deals List and more community based deal-finding options like our Deals and Freebies Facebook group and our newplugindeals subreddit. Myself and my little team of developers are working on ironing out the kinks and there are also some cool new features we plan to add that this system opens up to us. So keep an eye out for those. 🙂 Please check out our our Plugin Reseller Price Check service and let me know what you think! I'll respond to some of the feedback from the other thread below shortly. Thanks! ❤️

  8. You should start your own thread. The OP for this thread disappeared from here in December 2021. I doubt he'll answer. So please start a new thread and supply details of what you are trying to do and how. The more details the faster the solution.

  15. Haha thanks but I was being a bit facetious. I have a basic understanding of what type of compression to use when and I do have my favorites. My general point was that I'm not a professional and I have accumulated more than any pro would dream of, without the exact skill to problem solve and grabbing the right compressor where I need it. I still like having the options, but I had to come to terms with my own limitations. So I swallowed a bit of ego and gained (well, didn't spent) money. 😜

  16. Opto has a relatively long attack time - use when you want a smooth sound, e.g. on vocals, or a bus to glue things together. FET naturally is a bit crunchy, and you can set really fast attack times. Use when you want a slightly more aggressive/rough tone, e.g. on rock drums. I personally use them when applying PC on drums - use maximum ratio with really fast attack times to absolutely crush the signal. Adjust the wet/dry ratio so you get the transients of the source, and the body of the processed. The above is just a guideline though - if they sound good somewhere, go with the flow!

  17. Buying all those cheap libraries has taught me why I should invest in a bit more expensive ones instead. Though it still amuses me how people sometimes say things like "that [$50] library is mediocre at best, I personally prefer this [$1500] library" as if money didn't matter at all.

  22. Can we get something like Alt+LMB to be able to just click a plugin or send in the channel to delete it, Reaper style? Especially on large projects, it would be nice. Not a deal breaker by any imagination, just would be nice.

  23. This sounds helpful. If they do this maybe they can fix the current FX Rack bugs. When opening a project, Track View Audio track bypassed FX Racks still retain the "ON" indicator even tho the entire Rack is darkened, giving you a false indication. And both Track & Console View MIDI track bypassed Racks are reactivated creating the extra step of re-bypassing them each time project is opened.

  24. “Oddity2” takes the character and operational architecture of 3 generations of a classic and via a wave of enhancements, transports its spirit into a new dimension. While the duophonic and monophonic modes have been retained, Oddity2 now also offers a monophonic legato mode, plus a POLYPHONIC MODE. Everything from spiky and resonant textures to lush and warm pad sounds can either be programmed from Oddity2’s intuitive controls or simply dialled up via the 1000+ categorised patches. Via three filter modes and an additional oscillator, Oddity2 can sound as versatile and punchy as its main rival, the Mini, back in the day. Furthermore, dedicated LFO & ADSR, called XLFO & XASDR respectively, for modulation of almost every parameter make it the most programmable one yet. https://vstbuzz.com/deals/75-off-oddity2-by-gforce-software/

  35. Actually sends are post-fader by default; you have to go out of your way to make them pre-fader. But, the OP was talking about fading the clip which is pre-everything; when the clip fade hits -Inf, nothing will be sent/output anywhere. But a long enough reverb tail would still be audible. I'm not sure why Kevin's screenshots aren't showing that. A reverb with a 20-sec decay time should definitely be audible as well as visible in the preview waveform at the high vertical zoom level in the screenshot. Here's Sonitus with a 20-second decay after a single metronome click with no zooming:

You call Larry the king, I prefer "the boss," but either way, I think it's very clear that you and I -- and many others miss him. Not just his deals, but his presence. Hopefully, in time, he'll return, see how people missed him and realize that he's extremely loved and appreciated by 99% of the folks here.

Like many others, we're also working on a new, game changing website that will turn the industry upside down. /s It should be up shortly. We want to make sure everything is working properly before we launch so there are no unnecessary surprises. I'll be sure to post when it's up.

  42. There are valid reasons to use a synthetic voice. I used plogue alter ego when I lost my voice due to a bad cold. I've also used it for getting vocal ideas down when travelling... recording vocals in an airport or on a train doesn't normally go down too well with the people around you!

  48. one of the key things to check - are all devices which you listen to "calibrated" to produce the same levels? using (say a -12db pink noise file) you can set all your listening devices/sources to the same level (esp if you have a sound level meter). so if CW is set up so speakers are outputting 75db, then your listening apps needs to be set with the same source file to 75db.
