  9. The Spitfire Player libraries are fairly straightforward to Unify so they have been a good way for me to get started. I am not sure where things stand as far as Unifying Kontakt libraries as there was some major issues with the recent Kontakt update which caused problems finding sample content, I am keeping my eyes peeled for more info concerning that one. With the Synchron Player, it is more about figuring out what Linked Parameters to assign to the Macro Knobs. When I took a look at all of the parameters that Synchron was exposing it blew my mind. They were including every parameter for around 19 different mixes, I guess to cover surround applications, with each one of the mixes all of the effects and sends parameters were exposed, so it took me by surprise but I am working through it ;^) With today's latest Originals Abe Laboriel Drums, i will be interested in seeing how I can remap the notes so that they might be used with the included drum grooves inside of Unify. I will work on it as soon as it lands here. I would also LOVE to learn more about how to use Auto Hot Key, it sounds like a very helpful tool when doing these sorts of repetitive tasks. It is really encouraging to see our user community here helping like they do, kudos all around. Joyfully, Simeon

  12. They managed to fool me. It never even crossed my mind this could be a paid update. It even installed in the same slot in the IK Product manager (unlike for example Syntronik 2).

  13. What saves them is "Group Buys" and the quality of the product...but eventually that's not going to be enough. People will get fed up with the idiocy. I've been there MULTIPLE TIMES, coming close to selling everything and saying "Screw 'em"!

  14. It's very difficult to like IKM - they obviously think that this kind of business practice works for them though ?

  15. Thanks to ZincT's help, today I was able to Unify Spire's factory presets. It was kind of fun to see AHK clicking all those buttons and typing all that text, faster than I could ever dream of doing. I did it on a 1080 monitor but it was not really that difficult to modify the script ZincT shared with me to work in my environment.

  18. PSA: If you picked up MODO Drums in the group buy, don't forget to download copies of all the drum kits from the Sounds section of the product installer. Your downloads will likely expire in a month or two.

  19. pretty vague IMO - probably just a roll-up of various fixes that have been in the queue for ages/ This update is all about selling you extra kits - not about improving the product. The fact they marketed this as an 'free' UPDATE is what is so confusing. They should have added some actual measurable and visible IMPROVEMENTS called it V2 and added the custom shop - then $79.99 might have seemed reasonable. But remember this is IKM we are discussing

  20. The free update only seems to have undisclosed "reliability" improvements. Others noted they are not seeing any performance improvement. Therefore I'm not sure I see the point of doing the upgrade unless you plan to pay for the new drums. It appears to be an update to alow people to purchase new drum sets not previusly available.

  21. The new "free" v1.5 update that is not "so free" brings as a novelty three horrendous padlocks to unlock new kits and nothing else, because the rest remains the same as v1.13, not even they solved the terrible consumption of CPU, a real update that only works for IKM and not the client.

  22. What, no one wants to give IKM credit for now giving away the Studio Kit for Free? (and yes I own what was the full product until they released the 3 new kits...so it means little to me directly)

  23. It was meant to be funny. Kind of making it seem like I was on to some kind of momentous epiphany before the punchline. But maybe it takes away from the more direct storytelling. Makes it look too "produced." I'll think about it. I still think there might be times when music might add something. This surprised me. You don't know what your personal cliches are until somebody points them out to you. Thanks! That's a good note. I find it... interesting. 😄 I realize this will never get as much attention as the DSS video, but I like it better. I'll keep trying to make them better.

  24. This 2nd video was much better technically. I can tell you changed things around quite a bit. The only thing I noticed was your use of the phrase "I found it.... interesting." I humbly suggest trying to find 2-3 different ways to say that. I heard it a few too many times. The "ums" and pauses didn't bother me in the slightest. That's what makes it sound like you're just talking, not presenting. I really enjoyed the extra effort you took in showing supportive material - pictures, music, etc. That is very, very nice. Keep doing that!

  26. This was top secret/ crypto back when, but I saw it mentioned in a recent documentary, so i think I'm safe sharing. We had a special super secure area inside of a secure area in the U.S. facility on Teufelsberg in Berlin (I was there in '71). There were about 12 positions in the room, each one monitoring 12 hard-wired bugs in East Berlin, with a reel-to-reel tape recorder for each bug. They were old lines that were noisy, so there were threshold controllers for each line. You would dial it down just enough to cut off the noise, but activate when someone around the bug started talking. When a line activated, the associated tape deck started running and I would switch my headphones to that channel and start typing in English what I heard in German. Worked well. I was advised early on of an operator's trick. Whenever some muckety-muck with scrambled eggs on his bill came in for an inspection, we'd all spin the threshold controllers to full on. LOTS of activity; all noise. No one had time for questions from the officer. After he finished looking around and left, we'd reset the controllers and back up the tape decks to their pre-inspection positions. 🤣

  29. I thought that was very very much improved 'technically'. It was excellent in my view. Personally I wouldn't over do the music - it works really well with you just reminiscing with the photos to give it some 'context' - maybe the music gets a bid distracting and unnecessary ? Not saying it's wrong, just saying I'd be happy to not have it

  31. Yeah...I'm not updating just to get some extra unlocked kits in my view. As we say in Dutch "het oog wil ook wat", which translates literally to "the eye also wants something".

  33. agree yet again ! and what is with with IKM that they insist on showing you all the unlicensed stuff with a big padlock - with a shareware type nag-screen. like that's gonna make you buy it - it's just irritating and not very professional IMO. I though Peter has said that IKM had learned that lesson ?

  34. There were 10 kits that I had to install under "Sounds" for Modo drum... Black Oyster, Bubinga, Jazzy, Metal, Djentleman, Extreme, Grungy, Plexi, Reference, and Rock Custom and that doesn't include the 3 new ones

  35. Not in XLN's case. The Installer seems to be updated at least monthly if not more often. Nothing new at all from them.

  39. While I've been disappointed in the 8Dio string libraries I have for KONTAKT, largely due to the scripting being less than optimal, I picked this up for $20USD and was very pleasantly surprised. If you like the demos, I'd recommend picking this one up. It's definitely a bargain.

  41. These $29 libraries have never been on sale though, so it can make sense to buy one or two now. I know that those who are planning on spending a lot more might want to wait for the freebie in the fall.

  42. Full disclosure: according to the datestamp, that photo was taken in 2013, a year before my wife died. She was 100% responsible for the tidiness, the plants, and that crazy-expensive Chinese table that my great-grandkids do their coloring books on today. These days my place very much looks like it's occupied by a single guy who spends way too much time in the garage in front of said computer. That reminds me, I'd better dust that piano before the tuner gets here. Once every 7 years should be frequent enough for dusting, no?
