No matter how great they are I don't want to get trapped in Apple's Echo system. I like tinkering with PC hardware. I've been doing it for 20 years.7 points

In case anyone starts a slate subscription, please watch out for what is IMO a user-unfriendly business strategy: They advertise the annual-paid-monthly plan as "best deal" at $9.99/mo, but it's really $9.99/mo for 6 months then $14.99 after. That's $149 for the first year, matching the annual plan. But then depending how they renew you're paying for $180 year two and beyond. Edit: clarifying this is the "annual paid monthly" plan rather than the quit-anytime plan, so there's not that benefit either.3 points

Glad they decided to keep sale going for few more weeks. Smart. Some sites (sweatwater) for instance still show it at $99. It’s 30% off ($69) from KIT directly. https://kitplugins.com/pages/bb-n105-channel-strip3 points

Hi Everybody, I just remixed and polished up The Westerly Sessions Volume II, and this is a rocker from that album that I never posted. On this I sang the vocal using a Rode NT1-A through a Warm Audio Tone Beast. The NT1-A is a bit bright, but I think it works well on busy rock mixes. The rhythm guitar is a Fender Strat, and the lead guitar is a Gibson Les Paul - both using TH-U. The drums are AD2 - the Black Velvet kit. Regarding reverb on this one, I used Breverb and REmatrix - my go-to reverbs. As always, any comments and critiques are welcome, and thanks for listening. Here it is: https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=140805362 points

This is a view that I don't think gets a lot of attention when it comes to custom theming. I didn't take it on for a long time because I never used it, which makes it harder to know what to do with the art. I don't want to break something by making a button disappear or some text illegible. Anyway, I want to show off the Matrix View makeover that I'm doing for Midnight Blue (soon to propagate to the 5 other themes). I finally figured out how to change the color of the grid lines between the cells (hint: it's not a color selection). I'm still having a hard time tracking down those teensy buttons on the cells themselves. They're tiny, and I think they need to be more legible. I already made it easier to spot instantly which cell is in play mode. I think maybe I'm not the only person put off by the fugliness plainness of the stock Matrix view, and I may find I'm more interested if it looks more interesting.2 points

Groove3 has two tutorials, one for Mac and one for Windows. Both primarily deal with data entry and how to navigate around Band-in-a-Box. There is a third video series called "Songwriting with Band-in-a-Box".2 points

“Dirk Ulrich, as we both know, Jonte Knif Audio is one of the best analogue designers out there. The Knifonium is a masterpiece. And his attention to sonic detail and superior sonic aesthetic is undeniable. If you chaps can code the SOMA, it’ll be an elegant and graceful step in a more sophisticated digital world…“ – Hans Zimmer2 points

Done exactly this many times, including right now. Travel with a fairly substantial mobile rig, all centered around laptop. It adds a level of stress....a certain level. High level you could say. Every time someone at the airport security has to handle my gear I realize my life is in their hands. No cloud backup, but everything on multiple redundant portable drives...that at certain times are all within a couple feet of each other. I take drugs for this.2 points

KV331 Audio announced the version 1.4.5 update for their SynthMaster One software synthesizer. This free update brings native support for Apple Silicon Macs, performance improvements and critical bug fixes. The new features in this update are as follows: Native Support for Apple Silicon Macs: SynthMaster One now run natively on Apple Silicon Macs, provided that the DAW is running natively. Performance Improvements: Many parts of the DSP code in SynthMaster One engine is now using SIMD (vector) instructions (Resampling, FFT, Distortion, Chorus, Ensemble, Filter algorithms to name a few). Aside from the new features, there are critical bug fixes in this update: SynthMaster One crashes when iPad skin is selected. SynthMaster One VST is not recognized by Cubase 11 on Windows. SynthMaster One generates crackles when ran inside a DAW that uses variable buffer size (such as FL Studio). SynthMaster One crashes when arpeggiator generates notes lower than MIDI Note 0. SynthMaster One crashes when license key file downloaded from KV331 Audio server contains invalid values. SynthMaster One crashes when user closes and reopens the plugin window when a download is in progress. When a preset is saved under a sub folder under 'Presets' folder, the sub folder name should be interpreted as the bank name. SynthMaster One can not get access token for Google Cloud services. SynthMaster One might cause a crash while saving config file. SynthMaster One might crash when reopens the plugin window while download is in progress for Online Presets. Preset Browser Banks list is not sorted. Modwheel and PitchBend is reset when the current preset changes. https://www.synthmaster.com/synthmasterone.aspx?referrer=kvraudio2 points

This ^^ got the deal the first year, then was auto-renewed for 14.99$ a month with an annual commitment and no possibility to cancel, purchased the TH-U full upgrade and I have to pay an extra fee to keep using it after my subscription ends (ilok transfer). I'm done with Slate (and subscriptions overall)2 points

Yeah that would be useful. In the interim, I'd have the source track feeding a couple of Aux tracks and put the effects on one of them instead of the source. Not ideal, but it gets you over the line.2 points

I think all said and done, that Hybrid 3 and Loom II are quite good synths!!!2 points

In case folks are interested in Ask.Audio content, that is included in this offer. It is not Mac/Apple specific by any means. I got (and took) an offer last month for Ask.Video for $72/year and it also includes everything that they offer under the umbrella "Nonlinear Educating" company. What I was most interested in is the Audio/DAW content, and it's all there. Note that they treat accounts at the different web sites as separate, even though all the content is the same. It threw me that my old Ask.Audio account could not be used with the coupon, and I had to create a new one with Ask.Video.2 points

Nothing wrong with Air synths. Hybrid is a decent workhorse synth and is highly capable in right hands. One of my favorite synths ( after it sat for years unused) is Loom/II.2 points

The Vocals are the COLORS instrument BRONTE. That library is the superstar of the collection. I told the guy from Evolution that he should make a real legato library with Bronte the singer. He might do it. Every sound heard in the video (aside from the water in the credits) is from the COLORS libraries. Even what sounds like a drum is hitting the Chinese Guqin. I would have done the music very differently if I didn't restrict myself to COLORS. I know I would have reached for a frame drum, a bell tree, and other new age cliches. It was way better to restrict myself to the weird articulations in these libraries.2 points

Try this: Open both projects in CbB. Switch to the source project. On your source project, select all of the tracks you want to copy to the new project, right click one of their track headers and save this as a Track Template. (Use a temporary name if you like, you can delete this template later) Switch to your new project. Right click anywhere in a blank spot of the track pane and choose Insert Track Template, and it'll recreate all of your tracks and busses with all effects intact. Switch back to your source project and select the tracks again, copy them. Switch to your new project, and paste that into the identical tracks. That should get you where you want to be! Full info about Track Templates is here: https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=4&help=Arranging.18.html2 points
