  10. Just to be clear , people that are thinking of upgrading , do it , at least to have Chromaphone 2 remastered content and use it as chromaphone 2 but with a superb gui , if you need to go deeper you can but used in a ONE Layer configuartion cpu hit is OK !! I'm actually creating patches now to conduct a real test and in one layers config it's smooth ...i'm gonna test one resonator only in each layer now and report ...

  11. Don't regret it guys. I downloaded them last year and they were literally the same quality as the soundfonts I bought in the 90s from Sonic Implants. You can easily find vastly superior drum kit sample libraries for free from Seinheiser, Steven Slate, Ivy Audio, Orange Tree Samples and at Pianobook. I put together a list recently but I can do it again if anyone likes. Just let me know.

  14. Sigh. Yeah, I love me some Chromaphone, my favorite A|A|S Player soundpacks are Chromaphone sounds. I really like what they can do with the arpeggiator(s), especially once they start stacking layers. Most of the time I can ease the resource hit by knocking the number of simultaneous voices down to 8. Many of the sounds have long decays, and once you add in arpeggiation, they can really stack up. I want to purchase at least one full A|A|S synth while they're half off, so first I tried the Chromaphone demo. Even with cutting the number of voices and shutting off reverb (I prefer to use my own), I still couldn't jack my buffers up high enough to stop the dropouts, and that was with only one instance. My system is no rocket sled, but I don't feel it's quite ready for the boneyard, and I don't have good feelings about dropping a hundy on software that's going to make me yearn for a more powerful (expensive) system. Maybe after the next computer upgrade. I know that I can freeze synth tracks and all that, but my composing workflow for my electronic stuff doesn't lend itself to that. I do a lot of slight nudging of note start and stop times and I'd be constantly freezing and thawing. String Studio and Ultra VA are somewhat better on resources, but they suffer in varying degrees from FrankenUI, where there are new, Chromaphone 3-style elements mixed with the kinda outdated clunky and hard to navigate "Session" UI. As if they were released in mid-update. If you're disappointed in your upgraded versions, please take a moment and send them a polite email telling them what you've said here. I've known them to be responsive in the past, and they should know that earlier customers are struggling to be able to use the newer versions.

  20. I found some of the old PA ENGL amps unusable, but they have others such as the Train II which has a level of realism I find lacking in the AT5 package (I own all of them). Though they are absolutly usable in the context of a mix too. The smooth filter as well as EQ in post can help some of the harshness. AT5 can have that nice processed sound out of the gate which limits the highs and harshness. The PA stuff sounds a bit more like a recording chain where you get the amp and the gear captured. And AT5 would get more use if they can optimize the resources, it is a massive hog compared to the PA suite, insane for something many of us need to be zero latency, real time in the context of a project (not just stand alone)

  21. Have both (and think both are good). The Fiedler seems like the more unique tool of the two. Mpressor needs a resizable update, IMO. Chances are we will have a code reset in the next couple days...so there is also that...

  25. @Pathfinder I have to admit I'm am currently running an EVO 2TB SSD for audio in the studio rig. The Black was getting some age on it, and I had the EVO; preventative maintenance. The SSD read/write limitations would be a concern IF I was doing commercial work... did I mention backup, backup, backup? t

  26. https://www.applied-acoustics.com/chromaphone-3/faq/ What’s up with Chromaphone’s CPU usage? Chromaphone 3 can indeed be quite CPU intensive. It’s important to understand that a Chromaphone 3 instance can only run on one core of a multi-core system, so that particular core can be overloaded. There are internal and external variables that can affect the performance of Chromaphone 3. The internal variables are: unison, number of voices, arpeggiator, resonator quality, decay, and pitch modulation. These vary per preset/program. The external variables include: sample rate, buffer size, CPU model. The external variables can be tweaked but don’t vary per preset/program. Strategies for better performance Unison—It literary doubles or quadruples the CPU usage per note, so it’s a good idea to toggle it to see if its contribution is worth the load for your particular situation. For some presets, another possible workaround would be to use a chorus effect instead of the unison. Number of voices, decay—With the number of voices set to 16, you can trig up to 16 notes before one is cut out; if that particular preset has a long decay, you end up with a lot of calculation going on in real-time—very high CPU usage. Mode Density—The Mode Density control is located just below the resonator selector and it allows one to adjust the number of modes taken into account in the synthesis and therefore the richness and complexity of the sound. This control has four positions, Low, Medium, High, Full, corresponding to 4, 16, 30 and 70 modes respectively. CPU usage is directly proportional to the number of modes that needs to be calculated. Pitch modulation via LFO and enveloppe—All modulations add extra calculations, and so increase the CPU load. If the modulation’s contribution doesn’t add anything to what you want to achieve you should remove it. Sample rate—Running at 88.2 kHz vs. 44.1 kHz effectively doubles the CPU usage. Buffer size—Here lies the compromise of CPU load vs playability. You would set it as high as it’s bearable. In our experience, at a sample rate of 44.1 kHz there is no point in increasing the buffer size above 512 samples—there is no increase in performance above that point. But sure it sounds superb ....

  28. It all comes down to the number of writes you can make. SSD's have a limited number of erase/writes to each "spot". If any of those four bits in the QVO changes, it has to rewrite all four bits, whereas the Pro would only need to write the one. So it's not gonna last as long if you use it for your OS drive, but if you're using it mainly for reading (e.g. for samples), then it should be fine.

  30. Yes, Chromophone 3 can be a bit of a CPU hog One thing you might like to do with Chromophone 3 is to to reduce the Mode Density on the resonators. The caveat there, however, is you are going to lose some of the high end crispness on some of the sounds....

  33. While I have never does this, I do have my content in two non default locations - one for Sampletank 3 and the other for Sampletank 4. I am wondering what would happen if you move the folders as defined in your Sampletank and Syntronik configuration to your new drive. Then do a database scan in both Sampletank and Syntronik. In my Sampletank 4, my specific content location is as follows: "S:\Sampletank 4" "D:\Content\Sampletank 3" Say I wanted to move the "D:\Content\Sampletank 3" folder to the S: drive. I would move the entire "D:\Content\Sampletank 3" folder to the S: drive so I end up with "S:\Sampletank 3" (complete with content) After the move has been completed, I believe I would go into both Sampletank and Syntronik configuration and change the "D:\Content\Sampletank 3" entry to "S:\Sampletank 3". Then do a rescan. Of course, if you ever install more content, keep an eye on the install location of that content to make sure it actually matches. As I said, I have never actually done this, but this is what I would do if I ever had to. Someone who has actually done a content move might have a different method and can chime in.

  34. Hi Scott, I bought at least one of your Sonar Power books over the years. I think I still have my last one somewhere in my garage. Didn't know until I read this thread that the value improves with age like fine wine...😀 Not sure who holds the copyright to the writing in the book - you or the publisher - but if it is you, you may wish to update and issue as a pdf. See what Craig Anderton is doing with his book pdfs for Studio One on Presonus's and Sweetwater's sites. Listening to his interview with Mitch Gallagher at Sweetwater, it seems like these are selling relatively well. In any case, if you updated the one for Cakewalk and sold at a similar price point ($19.99), I expect you would have some takers. As Grem above says, your book was much more useful than the manual. Not sure if it is worth for you, but just a thought. Sorry to hear that you had a tough year. All the best, urock

  40. Yes, I agree completely. Their instruments are fascinating and make me want to explore them. They are very deep. I think they could work well with ambient music. For me they are worth the trouble, but the developer should try to work out some of the bugs. I'm going to write them. If they can update Mndala and make it function properly, I would probably buy more stuff. Wow! You're having even more trouble than me! Keep trying, because the interfaces are great. I uninstalled Mndala and installed it again. The thing that's very clumsy about it is how long it takes to load samples.

  41. I use VB virtual cable to route audio players to tracks using ASIO drivers. After updating to 2021.12, I get a warning that the ASIO drivers are incompatable, although they do work and recognize the virtual cable as an input device. However, trying to use WASABI as recommended, the virtual cable isn't recognized as an input device. Any suggestions?
