  1. Just wanted to let you all know AmpliTube 5 has been updated to 5.1. This mostly adds the virtual X-GEAR pedals (which are free with their hardware equivalent or available for purchase on their own) which is a great way to try the algorithms without having the actual pedal in front of you. What's new in AmpliTube 5.1 Added virtual X-GEAR pedals for demo and purchase in AmpliTube 5 via the Custom Shop including X-DRIVE, X-VIBE, X-TIME and X-SPACE. Spillover is now implemented in all reverb and delay effects (the effect's tail persists when the gear is bypassed). Full news X-GEAR pedals

  2. Just goes to show that slow and steady is not winning this race. Pumps and jumps seems to be the order of the day. And just to be clear, I am not saying the race is being lost.

  3. @Gavin Ray - I don't think this is a bug. It's showing both notes and velocity bars. This happens when the control bar is hidden, and "Show Velocity" is checked in the Notes menu: Unchecking the Show Velocity checkbox will hide the velocity bars from the PRV, while still being available in the controller pane when it's expanded again.

  6. I received my ARC3 and Mems mic yesterday. I have already used all my freebies so far, getting stuff I wouldn't have otherwise. Will try to get the room measured during the weekend.

  7. Finally kicking in again. I was hoping I wouldn't have to change my prediction. Another nail-biter was expected but that dip yesterday/last night was not the kind of nail-biter I had expected. And some people will get paid tomorrow so I'd expect a little bump there too.

  8. Based on this forum, though, it seems more people are getting hip to it. I used to come to the forum and look for threads with 0 or only a few replies to see if I could help out, but those are few and far between these days. I assume that increased forum activity means an increasing user base. Eventually Cakewalk will be free from the Gibson stigma, people won't expect it to blow up and go away, and then there will be new users to whom Cakewalk is a "new" program. As to the "bring it back" movement...Rapture Pro! I live in fear that one day, it won't load anymore. I ported the Gibson Bass collection (which I use on almost every project) over to the TX16W free software sampler, but I have a lot of presets that I haven't ported yet. Some are impossible to port, because nothing has the same capabilities as Rapture Pro. Despite its flaws, it remains my favorite software synth.

  12. I'd suggest one or two high-quality multi-pattern condenser microphones if Barbershop is your main thing. Much of the texture of vocal ensembles comes from the mixing of voices, in much the same way that double-tracking fattens rock vocals. Separation isn't a concern. In fact, you'll get better results without it. Look at photos of the Beach Boys in the studio, or the Beatles performing Because - one mic. In terms of cost, two decent condensers won't be a whole lot more than four 58s. And they'll sound a lot better on your uke.

  14. 16 pedals in one. $9 and change for each. Of course you don't need to buy them, but they're a great way to demo the hardware pedals for free while you can't physically do so (another much-requested feature) and you'd get these free with the hardware pedals. And considering we've been around for 25+ years and have had times where we were able to double or triple our business, I guess we're smoking the good stuff? 🀣

  29. First of all, I'm glad you enjoy the book! As to the status of an update, unfortunately that won't happen unless BandLab gets behind it in some way (putting it in a Cakewalk Store, advertising it in the magazines they own, or whatever). Books take a lot of effort, and if they don't sell at least several hundred copies a year, they're not worth doing. Although it sold very well back in the day when Cakewalk put it in their newsletters and such, it's only sold about 8 copies in the last year. But you never know - I hope that someday, BandLab will open a Cakewalk Store so people can get their hands on all the cool stuff that used to come with Platinum. A revised version of the book could find a home there.

  30. I think a lot of that depends on whether the transformers were modeled, they were part of the secret to "that sound." The waveforms in the article I referenced look suspiciously like what output transformers do to sine waves. And no matter how hard they tried, they did have non-linearities. I visited Wendy Carlos many years ago when she was using the pre-ADAT Akai digital recorder (I think it was called the DR1200). I couldn't understand why it sounded so much better than other DR1200s, and it wasn't a subtle difference...better low end. warmer, didn't have that brittle digital sound, etc. She said it was due to her adding transformers at the inputs and outputs. She knows her stuff, so I wasn't going to doubt her!

  32. Looks like my pessimistic prognostication of 15 on 9/30 will be shoved aside. I hope so! Kind of cool to pick up a hand full of freebies every week or so and see the trough fill back up again. I am going to end up spending $200 credits on $50 titles, but WTH... it's fun!

  38. The Arturia V collection resources folder lives by default in C:/Program Data. It has grown to 12GB as new instruments have been added to the collection, particularly now some instruments like the Synclavier and Mellotron use samples. It's an annoyingly large amount of data on my SSD system drive. I noticed there was an option to set the resources folder in Arturia Software Center. Easy thinks I, move the folder to my sample drive and point Software center to it. Wrong. - Once I had done this the licenses would not synchronize. When all else fails READ THE INSTRUCTIONS https://www.arturia.com/faq/utilization/customize-your-ressources-folder-location I moved the folder back to its original location and mercifully it synchronized without problems. I am now doing it the correct way. It's a long process, there are thousands and thousands of files in the 12GB so moving them is slow.

  43. Regarding the "secrets" of the console emulator and what it does internally, I have no clue lol. We purchased the technology many years ago for the prochannel. Only the original dev would know the technical details of circuit emulation are typically a closely guarded secret. I personally think there is some degree of snake oil in all this analog emulation stuff but I'm no expert on analog consoles
