This is a good deal (free) but there are a few things you might want to understand. The Boris FX Title Studio and Film Impact Essentials Collection both are plugins for Adobe Premiere/After Effects/etc. The Boris FX plugin also includes OFX support and also works in Resolve, though I've never had a lot of luck with BorisFX plugins and OFX. Film Impact are video transitions and it's a subscription service. This free license for the essentials will expire in one year and stop working completely. Unless you resubscribe. I played with them, they are nice but not exactly amazing and their subscription pricing is crazy. I can't see me using them since I know they will stop working at some point in the future. BorisFX Title Studio is a permanent license. But BorisFX is some what like Waves, only with even worse customer issues. The Continum units (which Title Studio is one) are part of a larger package, but you can buy the parts you want or the whole package. Normally you get a year of support when you buy a unit(more on this in a bit). Which for BorisFX that means any updates that ship during the year you will be able to install and use. But as soon as your license expires, any updates dated after that will not work/can't be used. However, unlike Wave's BorisFX have decided to make it impossible to install multiple versions of Contitunum on one computer. And they only have one master installer now. So you cannot mix and match versions of Continuum unit plugins. So if you bought (like I have) older versions of some of the units you can't have/keep them and install this free Title Studio. If you don't have any BorisFX Continuum units this doesn't really effect you that much, but it was a major pain for me, since the handful of units I had appear to have all expired very recently. I went ahead and upgraded even though I'm not sure Title Studio was worth it. The Continuum stuff is on sale and I was likely to have upgraded sooner or later. But it wasn't exactly cheap just so I could get everything to 2020.5. Now the giant catch on this specific free offer, the license you get for BorisFX Title Studio expires the day you get it. You don't get a year. It is ended today. So if next week they ship a new version of Title Studio you will have to pay for a year of updates in order to use that new version. You can keep using the old version (save the installer I guess) but you won't be able to install the new version nor will you be able to install any other Continuum units you buy in the future (without losing your Title Studio). In the past you could make things work with mixed versions but they seemed to have gone out of their way to make it pretty close to impossible. They also don't offer any upgrade path from a bunch of the units to the full package, which bothers me a lot. I played with Title Studio and to be honest it's kind of unimpressive. It really needs some 3D/video card acceleration support I think. There are better title plugins, even for free this might not be all that awesome.11 points

Yes, I love Darkglass myself. And Overloud's Mark II Studio. 😁 Honest, you're a pro mixer, right? I guess you know better (but me as making my own stuff for myself only, working with anything PA is not fun at all, to say the least, sound wise that is. To me all some PA amps, guitar or bass, sound tinny and harsh and bright, even if you try to darken the sound). I like some guitar PA amps but not all. Still I gravitate to IK, Nembrini or what the heck: Guitar Rig 5 (I have Komplete 12 Ultimate). I have always loved Guitar Rig, it has some good sounds in there (in the Petrucci forum there was this guy who made a whole guitar instrumental album with it and we all were marveled about his tone, this was like 8 years ago, wow, long time...). So, perhaps it's more about who's using it? Haha Idk I once told myself to never buy anything PA, and the moron of me seeing some "bargains" made me buy some, lol.3 points

$100 for an amp plugin is absurd. As someone that has actually played a real ODS and a few real Trainwrecks, I'm always curious about simulations of them (even clones of a clone as this is), so I may run a demo at some point just to try them out. Video Demos didn't knock me out, but expetations are in tow. No plugin would try to simulate the real dynamic range of a Wreck, becuase most guitar players have trouble with the control of the real thing, we want things that are easy to control and make us sound good...not point out the limitations in our playing abilites.2 points

I find this is true not only for bass amps, but other studio processors like comps and EQs. Although better is subjective, as IK plugins still sound awesome.2 points

I have a the V4b and B15 from PA, and both Ampeg packs from IK. They're both good. The PA V4b has some really nice grunt to it, but I get sounds I like out of the IK sims. I haven't yet managed to get anything from the PA-B15 that sounds anywhere near as good as their demos. As you said, @Zo, the PA sweetspot can be pretty narrow! I always do this, but seeing as someone else mentioned the (presumably Softube) Eden, I'll sing its praises too. It's very versatile and full sounding. When I got it, I swore I didn't need another Bass amp sim, but here we are...2 points

I tried downloading and re installing a few times. The error message is it can't find the sample library so there is no sound. I did not change any pathways etc. I've installed it to a lot of other computer before without issue. I think it's just this one computer which is not important. It's just my office computer and I don't do any real recording with it. But I like to muck about with midi files. My main DAW computer is still in mothballs since we moved into a new house last summer. Busy with reno's and enjoying my cabinet making skills so music as a hobby took a back seat. Spending money on tools instead of music gear. Then to top it off, the only gigs we ever play each year have all been cancelled. One of my reno's will be a real nice music room,,, complete with proper treatment. I hope Cakewalk is still working when I get there.2 points

Could be done pretty quickly with a little batch scripting, but I think we should make IK Dev do it.2 points

Interesting. The description doesn't match a piano. I have too many pianos. (it's a good thing they are all virtual or my house would be really crowded.)2 points

Good question @Tezza. In the UK Scan Computers make Pro Audio PCs using both AMD and Intel CPUs and they also produce this information page which might help your decision... http://www.scanproaudio.info/ I'm leaning towards a 3900X based system myself at the moment but waiting to see if prices settle back down again once we see light at the end of the Covid-19 tunnel. My main PC is used as much for video editing as audio work so AMD seems to have the edge there for me in price/performance at the moment and I don't really need the ultimate in single-threaded performance which Intel seem to have by a small margin. Will be interested to hear what you buy and how it turns out.2 points

Yes, it does. Anything you add becomes a "derivative" work. US Copyright law is very clear on this. The original copyright holder is also the copyright holder of the derivative work; simples! Don't use the tracks, if you don't like the terms... Best advice! t2 points

Focusrite stopped making drivers for 1st generation products which caused all those issues for me. That's when I decided to get IK's Axe I/O. Since the guitar is my main instrument, the Axe was a world of a difference compared to the 2i4. No latency and talk about the tonal improvement...can highly recommend it for guitarists or bassists. 👍2 points

I agree with Tom you could do with cutting the build up to the start quite considerably, especially as the whole things is +8 minuets, mix works well here on the Adam's. Good depth and clarity on the voices. Thanks for sharing.1 point

Not an answer to your question, but an alternate method. GR5 works great for processing a recorded guitar signal in Cakewalk. A big problem in recording live guitar is how you listen to the guitar parts you are playing while recording them. I have had good results using a passive direct box to record the straight guitar signal while sending an output to my guitar amplifier for monitoring. No worries about latency or feedback. All you need is a direct box (I paid less than $30 for one) and an amplifier. One advantage of recording the direct guitar signal is that you can take your time and find the right GR5 sounds (or TH3, etc.) you want, even layer different GR5 sounds using multiple tracks.1 point

Yes, this happened also to one of my guitars! So I had to buy a new one! 😁1 point

IK all the way. The video you showed me is stellar. PA... I downloaded the demos and tested them... I never ever liked them a tad bit, to me they sound tinny, thin, nasty.1 point

Now there I'm not quite with you. After all, they are muted, inaudible. So nearly invisible makes sense. 🙂 HOWEVER, the situation could be improved in your case by going to Preferences/Customization/Colors then choosing the PRV category and playing with your colors there, specifically the PRV Grid Background Brightness slider, so that the muted notes' outlines are more obvious. I have a custom color scheme for my own PRV and the muted notes show well enough...1 point
