  8. Edit not worth it since you don't understand the law if you don't think it is "fair". It doesn't have to do with us, it has to do with your government and the retailer you chose to use to evade taxes. Again, not our "business terms with our dealers" but your government's terms with people who sell to those who live under their governance. It's not that hard to understand. You are "paying 27% extra just because you're based in Europe" because of your government. Take it up with them. ...and we follow the letter of the law with transfer fees and every other aspect of our business. You don't need to resort to misinformation just because I'm stated facts that you don't agree with or which don't suit your evading of taxes.

  11. Thank you, Larry, I look forward to all the money I will save because of the discounts I will receive on plugins I don't need and can't afford. 😀 However, I'm not as hopeful as you about the dirt cheap plugins that are coming. Some companies are doing nice things, but most are business as usual.

  12. They're all decent. They have the TMT (Tolerance Modeling Technology) which actually allows it to be like a "Mixing Console" where you can assign each instance of the plugin it's "own channel" on the board, just as if it were a real console.

  27. I downloaded it without issues. It's really nice. There are phrases from all four instruments in this freebie. The instruments are Qu di and Bang Di (variations of Dizi), Xin Di (modern version of Dizi) and Dong Xiao (another word for Xiao) Here's the video for the full version.

  28. I think it would go a long way to try to release updates at least monthly, even if they are small to show that things have changed for the better. I also think it would be great to share some type of pipeline. Anything to keep hope alive and keep some type of attention on the product. Staying somewhat active on forums, social media, youtube, etc. with substantive content is pretty important.

  29. Sonuscore is the best. First their Origins Collection. Then they are giving away 25 copies of The Orchestra at Best Service. And now this. I've always been curious about their phrase libraries because everything they do is so good. But I don't usually use phrases.

  33. LOL! Not that great as it used to be. 10 years ago it was very easy to work with. It would run effortlessly on my laptop. I had high hopes for X3, but was bitterly disappointed with no modern UI/UX updates and too many bugs like constant drop outs and frequent crashes. The only benefit was getting the suite with full Independence and SpectraLayers Pro. X4 and X5 don't bring anything worth paying for. I'm with Bapu on this one.

  38. To the layman, Samplitude is VERY intimitdating! It's got more features than Carter's has liver pills! When you click on menu item 10,000 choices pop up, and THAT immediately scares a lot of people off. It has a HUGE learning curve, due to having so many features, but it IS a POWERHOUSE of a DAW! I wish that they would update the interface, and the skins aren't much help, but under the hood is a MONSTER!!!

  41. I can't get this to work using Duplicate, but did using Copy > Paste. First, open Edit > Paste Special and change the What To Paste option from "Paste as New Clips" to "Paste into Existing Clips". Next, open Preferences and from the Editing section check "Use Paste Special Options on Paste" at the bottom. If you then copy and paste notes within the PRV they should remain in the active clip.

  43. Based on how InMusic has handled AIR and SONiVOX, BFD3 may soon be available for $2.95 at Plugin Boutique. 😀 Or maybe given away as gift of the month.😁 I wouldn't hold your breath about new expansions. It's possible that all of this is because ROLI has not turned out to be successful. So they are selling off assets like JUCE and this. Do they still have the FXpansion synths? Note that the ROLI software has recently turned up available for non-ROLI hardware users.

  45. Just to clarify for this thread, the problem RBH was having has been resolved. He has a broken DirectX installation that causes even the Microsoft DirectX diagnostic tools (DXDiag) to crash. The new version of Cakewalk uses Direct2D for some drawing optimizations for the arranger UI and this is what triggers the problem on his PC. Normal Win7 systems are unaffected by this problem.

  46. It really depends on who the songwriter is. if it is original and destined for ANY distribution, you really need to establish at least one publishing entity to capture publishing royalties (thanks to the extremely antiquated licensing model still embraced by the powers that be in the recording industry). Publishing royalties are typically almost the same amount as songwriter royalties. Just about anyone who does publishing will have two or three entities - one for ASCAP, one for BMI, and one for SESAC - because you cannot have the same entity name with more than one clearing house. Many (all serious, professional, I-do-this-for-a-living) songwriters will have a publishing entity, or two, or three...or they work for a "house" that has that all set up already. If someone else wrote it and/or published it, you can still use it for commercial use, you just need to make sure royalties are paid. There are statutory rates available from any one of the clearing houses listed above but you can almost always negotiate a lower rate (based on usage/distribution). You cannot copyright a previously published song or ANY performance, and copyright is completely independent of what production method was used to produce THAT version. That is where ISRC codes come into play. Don't worry about ISRC unless you are creating a commercial CD intended for airplay. ISRC is a numeric string embedded in a .cda file (CD version of a .wav) that identifies the exact performance or iteration of a given song, and ties it back to the label. It is used by the players in all radio stations to report "Spins" and that information gets sent to a company named Soundscan, who compiles the information and makes sure royalties are paid by the radio station to the song writers and publishers. If you are not the songwriter or the publisher, you can still get mechanical royalties as a performer, which are almost nothing. I have gotten quite a few checks that were for less money than the stamp on the envelope needed to mail the check. If you get with a major label, one of the contract stipulations will be that the label will get the publishing rights for all songs created during the term of the contract - this can be negotiated down to "for xx years" after which the publishing can revert. And, to answer the original question - you ABSOLUTELY can use Cakewalk to produce commercial music, and they don't get a split on the royalties.

  47. Reminds me I need to write a post-Melda installer cleanup script to delete all the 32-bit cruft. The more challenging task will be the post A|A|S installer script. If ever there were a nervous nellie installer....

  48. If you're into extremely low round-trip latency, Presonus Quantum is hard to beat. It'll allow you to run a 32-sample ASIO buffer size at 96k (1ms total round-trip latency).

  49. I also once had this problem on a project. All frozen instrument tracks and it played ok when they were frozen (ie the state I had left it in previously) but unfreeze one and the midi output had changed to a different (and still frozen) synth, so nothing played and I couldn't freeze it again because the synth it should have been assigned to was still frozen. Tried another and same result. Tried unfreezing all the synths so that I could reassign outputs and it was a total mess. Split all the instrument tracks to reveal the midi tracks and nothing was assigned to where it should be, some midi tracks were assigned to the same incorrect synth. One synth even when re-assigned refused to make a sound even though all the routing was corrected and one synth remained frozen in the synth rack view, but the audio still showed in track view and the * icon in TV appeared as not frozen. I spent hours trying to put it straight and never quite managed it because I couldn't re-create the synth that was showing as frozen but wouldn't unfreeze (omnisphere IIRC) as I had no idea what patch was selected. It was only a half baked thing anyway, so I put it down to a corrupt file and gave up in the end.
