  4. I'm in the process of remixing my second solo album which was released in 2013. The album was recorded initially using Sonar X3. I opened the project in CBB and none of my third party plugins loaded. I decided to remix this track but only using the Pro Channel and the the plugins that came with Cakewalk. (Eq, compression, reverb etc) Guitar was recorded the old school way (miced up Marshall) using an MI Audio Crunchbox. The video was shot in standard definition back then so I tried the upscaling feature in Vegas to HD as a test and then re edited the video as well. It's come out much better than I expected. It also makes me think that maybe less is more regarding amount of third party plugins installed on my system.

The universe is being kind to me and this pain will be relatively short lived! 🙏🌈 We just bought a house in Portland after 9 months of searching and the studio room is beyond anything I had hoped for. It'll be many months before we move and then I can start the studio build, but I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED!

  6. The long-awaited sequel to Hollywood Strings is coming April 25. But this time, we made a hard pivot: Instead of going bigger, we recorded a tight 21-piece chamber strings ensemble in EastWest Studios Studio 2 for our most nuanced string library yet — smaller room, same production team, no less cinematic. You’ll find all the essential articulations, including legato, detache, pizzicato, staccato, spiccato, marcato, col legno, and even rare textural styles like flautando, each with up to four dynamics, ensuring an unparalleled level of expressiveness and realism. From the delicate intimacy of pianissimo to the commanding authority of fortissimo, and everything in between, articulations are captured with exacting detail by an extensive array of microphones, giving you unprecedented control over the performance and sound of the strings. 15. https://www.audiothing.net/effects/dub-filter/ 29€ 59€ Dub Filter is free for previous owners of our discontinued product Dub Station. If you own Outer Space and/or Springs, you can get an additional discount. Check your user area. Dub Filter is a filter plugin modeled after King Tubby’s iconic Big Knob, a passive high-pass filter with eleven frequency steps from 70Hz to 7.5KHz. This filter defined the sound of the entire “roots” era of Jamaican music. On top of the main stepped Frequency knob and the Impedance (resonance), the filter also offers control over its behavior including Magnetism, Character, Dynamics, and Artefacts controls. We have also included two modulation sources, LFO and Envelope Follower, to enhance the creative possibilities of the plugin, from rhythmic pulsations to organic filter movements. Dub Filter is available for MAC, PC, and LINUX (VST, VST3, AU, AAX, CLAP, 64-bit only), and also as AUv3 and Standalone on the App Store.

  20. The solution to get Psyn II to display in Sonar is to disable Enhanced Display Scaling in Edit > Preferences > Customization > Display | Enhanced Display Scaling (requires restart). I’ve seen other display issues that can be resolved by not having this option enabled, but that’s a discussion for the Beta forum.

  21. 15 stills works fine for me; at $199 upgrade price for very little once again (the last 3 versions). I still use CD Architect to archive downloads and music CDs and it has not ever been updated. I know they think no one does CDs anymore, but I think they are wrong. It was several years after their purchase of the company from Sony, before they begin actively updating Sound Forge and discovering they could make money with it by updating it too often at extreme prices. $99 would be too much.

  22. When Live Articulations are active on a track, any MIDI Transform articulations at the current Now Time will be applied to live MIDI input. This is useful for auditioning, and overdubbing on existing MIDI tracks with articulations. MIDI Trigger based articulations (i.e. key-switches) are not affected by this button. When the transport is running, they'll be sent out as usual - when the transport is stopped, they can be applied by clicking on the articulation section itself.

  23. I'd suggest: - Come up with a common list of plugins, and create a custom plugin layout that only uses those plugins. Make sure you're all only using those in your projects. - If you're using Sonar, use the new CWZ format for sharing, otherwise zip your project folder up - store this file in a common cloud location. Depending on your amount of cloud storage, you could consider using a naming convention for each version of the project, e.g.: 2024-03-26_15:40_XYZ ... where XYZ are the initials of the band member. This has a few advantages: 1. When ordered alphabetically, they're also in date order 2. Doing a "Save As" to this new filename will automatically "clean up" the audio files so your project zips will be smaller. 3. You can open several versions in CbB/Sonar at once, then pick & choose which tracks you want to keep.

  28. Oh man. Hope they don't F it up. I make my living using the Adobe Suite but I also own all 3 of Affinity's products and they're solid and perfect for a lot more people than the Adobe stuff. The thing that has me concerned the most is the wording "None of that changes today." TODAY. I guess we'll see.

  30. Back in the 70's I answered an ad for a keyboard player that sounded promising, as they advertised themselves as a 6-piece working band with immediate gigs. I showed up on a Thursday for rehearsal, and was informed that we'd be heading out the following Sunday for three weeks in Montana. OK, I thought, I'm a quick learner, I can do this. Then on Friday I learned that the entire band had quit the previous week, leaving only the drummer as the "band". Not a good sign. But I needed the money. On Monday, our first night of six in Bozeman, I found out the drummer was a meth head who kept a loaded gun next to his bass drum out of paranoia. After a six nights it came time to get paid. That's when I was told that the drummer was paying himself double what any of us were getting, because he owned the PA and the two vans, and we shouldn't complain because it was still more money than we'd ever seen. (It wasn't) The next week, in Billings, things got weird(er). The drummer, now in the throes of methamphetamine withdrawal, would periodically stop playing mid-song and stare at his feet. The second night there, the bass player had a nervous breakdown in the middle of a set and crumpled to the stage. Turned out she couldn't stand the drummer and was there only because he was her landlord and had threatened her with eviction. On the third night, the guitarist got so frustrated he threw his vintage Les Paul onto the dance floor and walked off. I contacted the bar owner and told him we wouldn't be able to finish the week. He was cool and said he had a local band he could call in. Next day, the drummer loaded up the trucks and left - without me and without the guitarist. We were left behind in Billings with our gear (including my 400 lb organ and Leslie). We had just enough money from the previous week's gig for the motel and airfare home. I had to pay a moving company to return my organ. Lesson learned, I thought. But the lessons weren't done yet. A month later I got a letter from the musicians' union fining me $100 for "quitting without notice". I sent them my union card with explicit instructions as to where they might place it. Fortunately, the Supreme Court had just ruled that nobody could be coerced into joining a union, so every musician quit the union at once. The musicians' union had been just a mob-affiliated shakedown racket anyway. In short order the only union members left were the Seattle Symphony. Sorry for the long story, but reading Shane's account got me angry all over again. And this was not my worst band experience.

  33. I dunno. The thought of hanging out with a bunch of vegetarians...how many times a day can one proudly proclaim their devotion to veganism, especially when everybody else is already one themselves? Anybody up for a band dedicated to bacon burgers? I'm thinking "Slaughterhouse Five" if it's a quintet.

  38. Sure, using a violin or cello as the lead instrument might be a better choice for synthesizing, as their sounds can be more easily replicated by virtual instruments. Flute VSTs can indeed produce stunning sounds, but quality often comes with a higher price tag. Nonetheless, investing in quality virtual instruments can greatly enhance the overall production value of your music.

  39. Great Quote: Here's a wild idea: terminate NA all together. Just let people download the install files for their NI account online. You will save a ton of time and resources that can be used elsewhere, and at the same time get rid of the biggest nail on NI's coffin (both for NI and us).

  43. I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned my biggest issue with the new UI so far: reduced type font size in the Transport module. I'm hoping this will be addressed before release, but for now, the reduced size of the time, tempo, time sig and sample rate text make me squint, where that isn't an issue with CbB. At these small sizes, just a single point increase in font size can make a big difference in legibility. Aughhhhh! Sonar caught cross-platform cooties from Next! I'm glad that you're working on a cure.
