  1. Now that I own VSX, SoundID and Realphones Ultimate I can test all three using my Sennheiser 650s. And I can test VSX vs Realphones using my Slate VSX HPs.

  2. Please do NOT judge the current version of the modeler by the content of that ancient page ... (which BTW I have just deleted so it is no longer accessible). I revived an old website in conjunction with the current modeler release & basically forgot that old page was still there. That was a description of an earlier version of the modeler that ran only on the Kyma Capybara - which is out of production. That was late 90s/early 2000s technology. Take a listen to the current version if you are interested in modeling. Cheers, Rob

  6. Active speakers have downsides: having to run power to them, limited distances, the need for longer, more expensive balanced cables. Passive speakers' cables can be made out of lamp cord from the hardware store in a pinch. However, having only active speakers (8 of 'em) means my entire "rack" fits in a single plastic box:

  7. I'm also done buying profile bundles. Normally, there's only a handful of usable tones, and it's hard to remember which ones to look for when needed. Presets don't help much either for the same reason - there's too many of them. Modelling is so good these days, that it hardly makes any sense to use profiles on desktops. IMO, of course.

  9. Hello , here's a new instrumental I'm finishing up. I rarely play mandolin or cello but enjoy playing both . Thought I'd do a no pressure instrumental in between vocal songs. Yairi acoustic , "A'"style mandolin and cello used. Kick was built from finger tapping a 15" speaker and percussion (some of it reversed) from tapping and slapping a guitar body. TTS brush kit and additional percussion used. I finally got to use the "whoo" in TTS in a couple of spots. All suggestions for improvement are welcomed . Thanks .. mark https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14708495

  10. Easy Peasy Yay, another long neglected song finished. The accompaniment track is from Band In A Box, circa 2011, over which I added a melody track. Guitar is Vir2 Acou6tic, one of the best virtual guitars out there IMO. Thanks for listening/commenting. -Bjorn

  19. Alternatively, you can check the e-reader that comes with your library card (PressReader or similar). If you just want this one, getting a single digital issue is also possible. And I think Readly still has free test months.

  20. Considering that all of those developers sales are at Plugin Boutique, I'm pretty confident that it's a Plugin Boutique promotional theme. But if you're wondering what's the reason/genesis behind the theme (i.e., is it due to an anniversary or invention, etc.), it seems random, just an idea to do a promotion.

  23. I stand corrected. I looked it up and that add-on was released October, 2023. Thanks. Didn't know that. In that case, it's worthy of comparison, so I'm looking forward to more users' thoughts as it gets more use.

  25. Exactly. Like getting Hank Marvin's Apache sound. Based on this video, I created the attached Guitar Rig preset with Guitar Rig 5, but it worked fine in GR6 and works fine in GR7. On my Windows laptop, that file is located here: C:\Users\johna\Documents\Native Instruments\User Content\Guitar Rig 6\Rack Presets. I had GR6 installed when I bought my new laptop. I just copied the file from my old desktop PC. There's an equivalent GR7 folder where you could also put it. GR7 found it here, no problem. Hank Marvin Apache.zip

  30. @John Vere (I got the hang of this @ thing). You couldn't depress me John. I've lived my whole life not having high expectations of anything or anyone. It has served me well, as I've never really been dissapointed about anything !! Well, I've spent yesterday and today loading up my current, troublesome project with 60x of the plugins that I used on my reference project of yesteryear (which had no Late Buffer problems). I even added duplicate backing vox tracks to accomodate them. And so, with 15x tracks of which 4x are 'open' VSTs and the rest audio, I can tell you (after playing through 30x times) that I have not had any Late Buffer strikes. The 'Performance' window tells me the following : At 2048 Samples for playback - Audio Processing = 16.5% (Max 34.48%) Engine Load = 27% average (Max 37.8%) These were very close to the same results I was getting when yesterday and the day before, I played through the project of yesteryear. This immediately confirms 2x things. Firstly, my current problematic project does NOT have a resident bug or is not corrupted (even though it refused to open twice the other day). Perhaps it was a bad coincidence. Secondly that the 60x plugins now on my current project in place of the 11x I originally had, CAN be handled comfortably at 2048 Samples on this machine spec. I don't think I'm sticking my neck out when I say that, since I have played it back at least 30x times with the 'Performance' window constantly giving me the same figures within 1-2% each playback. SO, folks, I am now going to delete all 60x of yesteryears plugins, save the project in its pluin-free state and start putting back, one by one, the 11x plugins I had initially put onto the project. I will play through with each plugin inserted and jot down the performance stats. If I don't experience what I was experiencing before, then I'll be damned, because that will mean there is no obvious solution to the issue I've had !!!! I will work on that now and update later tonight or tomorrow. It's great being retired and single - all the time to myself. (Now THAT'S selfish !!!) Cheers

  31. https://www.fananteampro.com/upsilon Upsilon is a solid‑state compressor with ultra-fast FET gain reduction, especially crafted for vocals performance. It equipped with 2 coloration chips which run side by side simultaneously and add unique color and classic “dirt” to the sound. Upsilon can also apply compression much aaccurately via “comp. mix” feature which actually turns it into multiband compressor with 8 frequency bands. Upsilon presents robust performance and zero latency, ready for real time recording even on older machines. Available for Windows (VST/VST3) Upsilon is part of the Cosmic Pack, which is priced $17 USD.

  33. I love my distorted sustained sounds. This time I found a french vocal in Splice which fits very nice! Overall it has a certain dark but melancholy feel to it? Also a bit uplifting. Whatever it is, it was fun to do. I got a comment from a friend that it's more for easy listening because it's still a pretty calm track.

  39. Very enjoyable tune and performance Mark. I really really like that cello which fits in so well. Kind of surprised it isn't heard more in music outside of orchestral pieces. Had no idea there was a "whoo" in TTS. -Bjorn

  40. Sonarworks does headphone calibration. The others also do simulation of the mix room (different studios) on top of that. Just comparing like to like. Anyhow, there are a lot of pros who use and trust VSX (and gush about it in the forum). I don't get that same impression with the other products.

  42. You know what is even more annoying? People who keep complaining about annoying Linux/Mac/Windows users. Full disclosure, I was a long time Linux/Ubuntu user but moved to Windows to do music software. But there are a lot of things I miss in Windows. I also don't like OS X but I do understand there are people who prefer it and that is okay with me. So as far as I am concerned, each to their own.
