  3. Excellent point. I'm a retired psychologist and the term we all remember from psych 101 is "Intermittent Reinforcement". It results in a behavior that's the devil to break. I know, because plugins have introduced it into my life. "I have all the plugins I need. I do. But wait, this one has fairy dust on it. I know it will make my vocals sound better. I know it will". And this poor rat keeps pushing the $29 lever because every once in a while a food pellet drops out. Have mercy! But there's good news: in January the after Christmas sales will start!

  4. Boz Digital Labs Christmas Sale - the recently released New York L 1926 Lite virtual piano plugin for Win & Mac (reg. $19.00) is available as a free download until December 31. "The NYL 1926 has a warm and rich tone that fills its cozy space, creating a perfect setting for expressive and intimate solo piano pieces. However, it also has some unique and charming imperfections that add to its personality." • Full, Resonant, Growly • 4 Mic Positions • Small, Intimate Room System Requirements MacOS 10.13 or greater (Intel or Apple Silicon) Windows 7 or greater Disk Space: 150MB RAM: 8GB I can't help but note that small 150MB size of this compared to the full version -- except that the full version page doesn't list a file size, however, the bundle of their two grand pianos indicates a disk size of 8GB. So this is not a modeled piano, but a sampled piano (edit: someone has stated that the dev claims to use modeling in addition to samples, but at 4GB for the full version, I would consider this to significantly be considered a sample library housed in a proprietary player. I would imagine that the lite version would not have many dynamic layers to be at 150MB compared to its full size counterpart, which I would guesstimate is around 4GB. But it's free and it is likely to appeal to those who don't own the full version of KONTAKT as the library is delivered in Boz's player. https://www.bozdigitallabs.com/new-york-l-bundle-lite/

  7. Visiting this forum is like gambling, because it's easy to do and it randomly rewards you for it. And sometimes those rewards are big. Add to that those times when you missed out on a really good deal because you didn't visit this forum during that one hour window when some glitch was active, and you have a pretty big incentive to hit that refresh button every chance you get. I think you need to ask yourself two questions: Is there something more important I'm doing less because I'm always here? Should I be spending this money on something else?

  8. I'm just wondering if I need to check myself in to rehab. I really feel as if I'm on this forum for hours every day. Pick up phone, check what's happening, put down phone, pick up phone a minute later and repeat ad nauseam. I know also that it's pretty much the same gang here every day, day in day out. I just wanted to know...how are you doing it? Same as me? Page open at work? Same as me but without putting your phone down or leaving your computer screen? I know I'm not alone. I'm just having serious difficulty breaking free.

  10. I really like Noir, because it's something hard to replicate and not that common with other orchestral libraries. I like to use the phrases to create a 'sample' and use that in boom bap beats, loop them MPC style.

  12. I think it's a bit of escape from everyday pressures, at least it is for me. It's a place to nerd out on everything music-related and though we're spending our time here talking gear, music is the common bond here between us, regardless of what genres everyone is into. I wish this same group ventured into the song section and we all shared our music more often. I'd love to hear what everyone is doing musically. I'd suggest people check out that subforum. It's an encouraging little group.

  14. Installed. (I have the Sonic Pass sub) . Its an interesting architecture with two oscillators with a conventional choice of waveforms and a sample layer with a good choice of samples. The Oscillators and the sample have separate filters both HP and LP with individual resonance. Its very programable and way beyond rompler territory and I was very quickly creating sounds far from the initial patch. First impressions are its probably one of the most versatile of UVI synth libraries.

  25. Try this (using Time Machine) at about 2:40. Try to limit your range to +/- 1 octave from the root of the sample otherwise it will get really granular and ugly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yua85ylVKZA This one is good too, but really quick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJjND8mM0Mc Learning to use Kontakt as a 'one shot' sampler is fairly easy. Using it as a multi-sample device is much more involved, but not what you're after here. Search YT for other vids relating to Kontatk, Vocal one-shots, Tone Machine, Time Machine, and have fun! The deets are covered well in the Kontakt User Manual.

  26. Follow-Up. I spent last night playing Millennium French Organ. I highly recommend this. It has 28 stops. Three manuals (Grand, Positif, and Pedals), plus 5 different mics, and 25 snap shots. It is versatile and has great range from soft flute stops to powerful, roaring stops suitable for the great toccatas. It really is nice, fun to play FYI--there is now a Walkthrough video that shows many of the features. Go to https://www.streamtechmusic.com/millennium to find the walkthrough video and to find details about the stops, manuals, etc. It is now only $49 until December 18 . FYI-- I am not being paid to say this, I just found this pipe organ vst worth my money. Definitely recommend this one. C2

  35. Yes definitely, I hate exporting audio from my phone. The value (for me) in using my phone as an audio recorder is just the convenience of always being with me (i.e. being there when opportunity or inspiration strikes) - I don't usually carry my H2 around unless I planned ahead on using it. Importing from H2 is easier - pop the SD card into laptop then I can do whatever I want. But with the dedicated phone app transferring data looks like it would be even easier. You need to review the specs/videos. You can drag/drop/export samples, stems or MIDI from the VST. Maybe you're referring that it's more geared for recording percussion oriented material - yes it is, but that's kind of been the dimension of the discussion on this thread and the comparisons with other apps. This isn't tool I'm going to use to capture something like a piano with multiple samples per note and multiple captures at different velocities.

  40. Yeah, it's fun. Sounds pretty good, and it's only 400+ mb -- so it's not eating HD space. It's a lot of short recordings, so while there isn't a ton of content, it's got enough to be useful. I can see me using some of these little patches.

  41. Having to email it (transfer it) to my computer, downloading/saving it, then finding it (if at a later date) and loading it into my slicer. Like 2 steps as opposed to maybe 4 or more. And recordings are saved on XLN's cloud (good/bad thing depending on opinion) for easy future retrieval from any computer you're working on. I have my H2 recorder for remote sounds that require a higher fidelity but the phone option is nice. You say "Apart from the XO thing and the automatic generation part" as if it's a minor thing, but IMHO that's where the gold is - it's what gives the whole process any real worth. Both SliceX and Momentum by Big Fish (which is free, see link) can slice loops and manipulate slices (pitch, duration, fx, etc.) but without you manipulating the slices you got nothing other than the original loop. I'm not saying these tools are worthless it just that it takes work to make anything useful. I have on multiple occasions recorded and made my own sample instruments and rarely do it anymore because frankly it's a PITA and in most cases the novelty has worn thin by the time the 'instrument' is ready for use. Re: XLN Life -I'm going to have to demo it; If XLN Life can remove the tedium to any significant degree from that equation then in my mind it's a no brainer at the asking price. But as always YMMV. Note: I'm not a sample mangler guy - I'd rather get my sounds from my guitars, synths, and drum libraries where you have velocity layers & round-robins, etc.. However if your cup of tea is slicing & mangling loops then more power to you. I am not trying to talk anyone into buying XLN Life (though I may have talked myself into at least demoing it) but don't think it deserves the negativity it was receiving.

  42. I fell asleep to the latest 'what's new' biab 2024 video on youtube. It's so long. Best lullaby ever. Haha. Every year they add a ton more to it except make it modern and cool and less robotic. Disclaimer: I have bought it twice now over the years. I should probably finally use it. I might actually like it.

  43. Ok... I fixed the persistence problem with these two and updated the website. When you download the Zip file, you can just copy the new DLL file directly over the old one if you'd like. Strange that it took a couple of years for someone to notice 🤪 The scaling/distortion issue in the plugins is going to take longer... gonna have to make some significant changes to ensure they are DPI adaptable. The vector based components are still pretty far in the future. Right now I'm working on dynamically scaling and positioning all of my custom components. It'll take a lot less time 🔧 I'd actually have to do some QA testing and add a lot of error checking to the code before any of these would be ready for any kind of commercial release 😜
