  1. I posted this in VI:Control. It's relevant to this forum too. 'm talking about companies like Indiginus. Most of the Indiginus libraries sell for $59 or $69 dollars or less. (Blue Street Brass sells for $79.) Are they "as good" as libraries that sell for twice as much or more? Definitely, but in my experience, many are better. For example, I started a YouTube video once, inspired by the release of Nylon Sky, where I took a MIDI file and played it with all the nylon guitar instruments i owned, both solo libraries and ones in larger collections like HALion, Kontakt, etc. I made adjustments to the MIDI when necessary, but Renaxxance (one of the oldest Indiginus libraries) just killed. It was head over heels more beautiful for this particular piece. We all know that's not a fair way to compare libraries, but I just want to say that it's a hell of a library, worth a lot more than $59 on sound alone. But then there is the user interface, which is so well-designed and easy to use. Most Indiginus libraries also include a harmony mode that I haven't found on any other libraries. This is great on guitars, but oh man it is great on things like The STEEL and The Fiddle. Arguably one of the main things that makes a Fiddle a Fiddle rather than a violin is the double-stopping. So do I think these libraries would sell at $150? Absolutely. They are top-level. And I think they are undervalued in a lot of people's minds because they are so reasonably priced. The reality is that most people place more emotional value on what is expensive, and then wait for sales to get "bargains." If the Indiginus libraries were priced like other companies, people would wait for BF when Indiginus libraries would be available for $59 or $69. What a deal!! I worry that so many people get their emotions fueled by sales that they don't buy Indiginus so much. There's no occasion like BF when you have to rush and buy them. I tend to buy the intro prices (just got The Banjo), but I have to remind myself to pick up one every year, because I know I'll enjoy them and use them. I've got a pretty good collection now, but more to come. Valhalla is another company like this. Are you sure that the reverbs you buy on sale are "better" than Valhalla reverbs? Do you have any companies like this you'd care to mention? I was planning on posting this in early November, before the tropical storm of Black Friday begins. I'd like people to consider patronizing companies like this before they spend all their money. But because the intro price on The Banjo ends this month, I'm doing it now.

  6. Not really. She was 65, 100% narcistic, but not unattractive. What's difficult is to admit to yourself that someone you love absolutely, positively could not care less about anything that matters to you. Someone who is actively trying to damage you psychologically and financially, and who spent the last 6 years of the relationship consciously refusing to show you a single kindness. I even remember vividly the last time she smiled at me, and then saw her realize what she'd done and her smile disappeared and her face darkened. She never smiled at me again. And it took me six freaking years to pull the divorce trigger. Cost me 7 figures and left me nearly broke, but I was finally happy again. I managed to keep one of the two paid-for houses, a couple hundred K and HER dog. He's 14 now, and still with me in France. He's my best friend, the only one who stuck with me during that awful six years. I love him to death. I brought him and my other two dogs with me when I moved here. My one health goal in life now is to outlive all three of them. The youngest, a Chihuahua, is 6. My only source of stress now is what will happen to them if I don't wake up some morning. For me, quitting smoking was easier. Not easy, but easier. Sorry for the downer rant. It's Friday morning in France. Time to walk the boys along the beach. Have a great weekend!

  11. I didn't rerun my installer yet, but when I looked in my account, Dual Delay was automatically added by Kilohearts. God bless them! Hahaha. Seriously, who can complain? Sure, I definitely understand how some folks who paid for stuff now free -- which includes me -- might be annoyed, but in the long run, they've added a bunch of stuff that was formerly paid that I got free, and I love the fact now someone who is short of cash can access these tools. That's great. And, of course, if more people have it, Kilohearts has more opportunity to sell them additional plugins, so it can work for users and the developer. So, count me as a Kilohearts fan.

But hell, when I heard this again at 2AM coming out of my TV, I was just floored by how great an old song it was and had to try it. I had fun, but I just hope I didn't ruin it too much. https://baselines.com/?p=6599

  15. I came across a program called Demucs that can process a song and save the instruments on it as separate files. Apparently it has been around for some time but this is the first time I've heard about it. At the moment it seems to be able to split the song into four tracks: vocals, bass, drums and other (which in my case has been guitars). So far I have tested it with only a couple of rock songs (with vocals, two guitars, bass and drums), but I'm telling you folks: this program has no business being as ridiculously good as it is. Yes, there is some smearing and every once in a while the instruments bleed over to other tracks, but overall the instrument separation is really, really good. I have only tried it with default settings and I am not exaggerating when I say that this has already revolutionized my transcribing process. It's like getting access to the separate stems of a song and it feels amazing to hear the bass of a song so clearly for the first time in your life. I have also tried Stagecraft Simple Stems but this is in a completely different league. Demucs is available as Python package on PyPi (installed with pip) but there is also a GUI for Windows and Mac. I haven't tried the GUI but if you're at all familiar with Python installing and using this is easy-peasy. Installation instructions and resources: https://github.com/facebookresearch/demucs GUI: https://github.com/CarlGao4/Demucs-Gui If you need/want to transcribe songs I wholeheartedly recommend you give Demucs a try!

  21. This is one of the only ones that comes to mind. Those in the OP, I'd honestly disagree with BF pricing. Most people are not paying $150+ for a sample library these days. It isn't the early 2000s anymore. (Yes some do but there are tons of options for fairly cheap). I like Valhalla DSP but $50 no longer feels like BF pricing when you can get amazing verbs for $10-30 regularly. $50 seemed like a bargain years ago, today not so much. While not every single day, I'd say Plugin Alliance is on a every month BF schedule for those on the mailing list. We saw so many lust worthy plugins for $15 so often people got burned out. Last year's BF didn't offer much, but we had so many deals leading up to it who cared?

  23. That's because A aeolian is the 6th mode of C major. D dorian is the 2nd mode of C major. They're the same notes. When you play A minor over a D minor chord you're actually playing D dorian. Calling it A aeolian when playing over a D minor chord misses the point.

  26. I've let go of my self entitlement in regards to paid-for plugins which are now free. Not to say that I won't ever feel cross, but I can't begrudge someone who got something for free where I have paid for it. And I can't fault a company who canges their marketingplan. I love the Kilohearts ecosystem and the way they now give A LOT of value to producers is commendable. So I paid a bit 'too much' in retrospect. I could have made my lunch at home this morning instead of going out and save a couple of bucks to offset this financial blow, but I didn't, so...

  29. Hidden gem: if you have your eyes on a Meldaproduction bundle that includes MWaveFolderMB, they'll give you €24 credit toward the bundle if you have a license for this. They assume that if you bought it from a 3rd-party vendor that you got it for 50% off list, So, maybe worth it for that alone even if, like me, you never even touch the FreeFX Bundle version. As for the others....yet another fake sidechainer? And the very idea of a DAW plug-in that emulates the flaws of an early converter is....I don't have the word for it. Unfathomable? "Make your sounds really not pop in the mix! Add fabulous 'digititis.' No JetPLL!" Still, every Meldaproduction plug-in is....precioussss, yes? My precioussss Meldaproduction FX. We loves themmm.

  30. Whytse did a funny Snake Oil? video on it. He didn't seem to get the joke, though. The detailed "retro" visuals seem to me to be an obvious pee-take on the plug-ins that have "wear marks" and rack screws in their graphics. Like, you want retro, we'll give you retro. And the graphics showing the compression actually look useful. If I didn't already have a zillion good compressors, I might spring for it at that price.

  31. C'mon, fellow Meldamoonie, Vojtech has been using this model for years to great success. It gets attention and warm fuzzies for the brand "if their free stuff is this good, the payware stuff must be fantastic." The responses I got at VI-Control when I mentioned that I cut my teeth on MCompressor were very interesting: turns out that many people (and Vi-Control attracts a lot of pros) also did so and therefore became hooked on Meldaproduction products. MCompressor is a truly great effect. It's a freebie, but if someone trips on using a freebie effect, they can even make it payware if they want. 😄 And you and I both know how hooked you can get. I've spent more with them than any other software company, including the pile of reference credits I've earned. The ref credits I've earned over the years is well over 100 euros, which means that I've been responsible for well over 1000 euros in sales for them. As are you, even more so. And as far as buyer bitterness, I've pointed this out before: you had the use of the FX for years before us cheapskates. The idea that we're somehow being cheated when a product that we bought later becomes much cheaper is a fake idea. We had use of it when we were hot for it. The purchase gave us a dopamine squirt (and it's usually a bigger squirt than when you get it for free). Your licensing bucks helped make them successful enough that they can now give things away for free, and you get the new freebies to put in Snap Heap or use standalone like I do (Limiter sees a LOT of use around here). But you know that. You'll also of course benefit from their new approach as they seem to be into continuing to release cool little toys like this dual delay. I'm a sucker for interesting delays.

  39. S-W-E-E-T! So, are they adding it to their FREEBIES collection?? It's a ridiculous number of quality plugins for FREE in case anyone isn't aware. I'm still really curious about the move to offer so many of their previous reasonably priced plugins for FREE! ...or maybe I'm just bitter since I bought so many of them? 🤔 Still, I don't mind giving this great dev some of my plugin $$. PS. THANKS KiloHearts! PSS. I just saw the email, and YES it is a new FREEBIE!

  44. Amazon's scam has been exposed, and it's the exact same scam that jewelry stores have perfected over many decades: raise prices to ludicrous levels right before the "sale" and then restore them to the same price they would normally have been. I'll often go to the manufacturer's website before ordering from Amazon. The price will be the same (Amazon sees to that) but the 30% that Amazon takes from the vendor will go to the manufacturer instead. I recently found out about a website that tracks Amazon price histories. It shows an item's list price (usually meaningless), its current price, and its historical average price. But their main business is notifying you when an item you're interested in drops in price. Curiously, when I looked at their front page this morning, it listed an expensive wristwatch as going for 99 cents (average price $1,409) so it's possible you could catch a surprising deal that was the result of a typo at Amazon.

  47. We're pleased to announce the 2022.09 release! This is primarily a maintenance release that includes fixes for a few user reported issues. Please note that in order to automatically keep your activation status up to date, Cakewalk will renew your activation status whenever a new version of the application is installed and run for the first time, and when you sign in to BandLab from within Cakewalk. If you have never signed in to BandLab from within Cakewalk, you will be prompted once to sign in. Thanks, The Bakers For new feature details, see New Features. Should you need to revert to the 2022.06 release, you can download the Cakewalk 2022.06 Rollback installer. 2022.09 Highlights Improvements Mono inputs from Patch Points and Aux Tracks Prior to this release, if a track or bus had an input assigned to a mono input (L/R) from an AUX track or Patch Point, the input would always and include both left and right channels from the patch point when playing back. Patch point inputs now correctly include just the channel specified as a track input. Note: Existing projects that utilize aux track or patch point mono inputs will sound different because previously these would render as stereo only. If you want them to sound the same as before, you can reassign the input to be stereo. Reduced minimum project loop length The minimum project loop length has been reduced to 1/128th note (30 ticks). Update to élastique SDK 3.4.0 Integrated zplane élastique Pro audio stretching and pitch shifting has been updated to version 3.4.0 with bug fixes and performance enhancements. Update to latest Microsoft redistributables and compiler The application is now built using the latest Microsoft tools that include some minor compile time fixes and optimizations. Application Signing The application signature has been refreshed to remove dependencies with Symantec certificates. In some cases, this would cause the application to be flagged as unsafe or cause the digital signature to be treated as invalid, potentially causing activation errors. Additionally, we now sign all DLL files and themes installed by the application to prevent unexpected quarantining by antivirus programs at install time or runtime. Note: If you do an update install of the application, only the main application and its DLL files will be updated with the new digital signatures. To update all signed components, you will have to run the full application installer. Optimizations Improved responsiveness of the application on stopping transport with large projects The MIDI All Notes Off message is no longer sent to VST plugins on transport stop. This message can be expensive for some plugins (eg Console Emulator) and the symptom was that the application could appear unresponsive for a few seconds after stopping playback, when the project contained a large number of tracks. Since Cakewalk manages all MIDI note on's explicitly, sending note off messages for just those notes, the All Notes Off message is no longer required. This may also improve start/stop responsiveness with other VST instruments. ProChannel plugins no longer receive MIDI Some ProChannel modules were requesting MIDI data leading to unnecessary processing lag. MIDI to Prochannel modules has now been blocked. Bug fixes Application UI is not shown after "Almost done..." message when opening projects containing certain plugins Occasional heap corruption on deleting synth tracks "Nudge by snap" uses Landmarks even with Snap to Landmarks button disabled Regression - unable to use automation shelf tool after making time ruler selection Set Measure/Beat As Now creates duplicate nodes at the end of the tempo envelope Export presets do not recall custom sample rate Export module shows inaccurate elapsed time for selection The ampersand character (&) behaves incorrectly in the track inspector's Description text box Simple Instrument Tracks cause incorrect track numbers when exporting audio Latest release notes are here. See prior release notes. Check out all new features released to date.
