  9. There's a lot out there I don't know about, mainly because I try not to collect vsts. Sometimes it's a turn off to me when people say "for the money, it's really good." I want something that's good regardless of the money, so like with Sospiro Strings you seem to get a lot for not much money, but to me those strings sound great (on YouTube anyway) regardless of what it costs. Like, I don't even own Omnisphere and I don't plan to. Nothing against that app but I really try to limit what I own and I also don't like super large libraries that have like 2,000+ presets. That's too many sounds that I'll never really get to the bottom of, and I'm kind of obsessive about being able to audition every preset in a synth. It's why I don't own any of those Arturia nor Akai collections. I like Synth Magic https://synthmagic.co.uk/all-products/ because the dev Steve is super talented at creating presets, and each of his synths has around 70 presets on average and they're almost all killer, plus he's about that same 80's horror/thriller movie soundtrack composer vibe that I am, that John Carpenter vibe. I did go through a phase not long ago though where I was collecting just about every Mellotron vst I could find, including the g-force collection. Those are some of my favorite sounds, but I forget who those Mellotron devs were that I found. I think Hollow Sun was one.

  10. Studio Monitors with truly class-defying and exceptional audio performance IK Multimedia is proud to announce the iLoud Precision series, representing another breakthrough in nearfield monitoring from the company that revolutionized compact monitors with iLoud Micro Monitor and iLoud MTM. Available in a choice of 3 configurations — 2-way 5" or 6.5", and 2 x 5" MTM — these handmade works of sonic art reflect IK's 25+ years of expertise in loudspeaker design and digital signal processing, delivering a level of sonic detail that rivals and even surpasses speakers at three times the price, with unique DSP-based features and software workflow enhancements that can't be found anywhere else. Best-in-class Response and Clarity iLoud Precision offers a stunning frequency response from 36 Hz to 30 kHz, with a superior ±1 dB tolerance from 45 Hz up, for precise and uncolored audio throughout the whole listening spectrum. This is guaranteed to be accurate within ±0.5 dB for a unit-to-unit consistency that is simply unmatched, thanks to the monitors' calibration during the last stage of the manufacturing process. The iLoud Precision also leverages its unique 96 kHz internal DSP processing, digital crossover and custom-designed Class D amplifier to deliver true linear phase response above 150 Hz for precise stereo imaging, crisp transients and incredible detail. The result is a stunningly clear, revealing sound quality that's absolutely true to life; a feature that simply cannot be found in any other studio monitors with such a degree of precision. iLoud Precision also sets a new standard for time coherence, or the precise response alignment between woofer and tweeter drivers, reaching nearly the theoretical ideal step response performance. This offers the highest level of time accuracy, without sacrificing frequency response, thus eliminating the ear fatigue that can develop over longer listening sessions on other studio monitors lacking a time coherent response. Only IK's powerful DSP and advanced digital control lets the iLoud Precision achieve such a great combination of phase linearity, time coherence and flat, uncolored frequency response for unmatched clarity and sound. At the top of the range, the iLoud Precision MTM use the midwoofer-tweeter-midwoofer configuration to deliver not only the highest SPL, but also an ultra-precise, point source sound with incredible stereo imaging. This means users will experience an even more natural, life-like sound, where the speaker cabinets "disappear" and attention can be focused entirely on hearing the music in its truest form, without the coloration that other studio monitors can impart on the source material. Built-in Acoustic Calibration With iLoud Precision, there's less worry about treating the listening environment. Each speaker features built-in calibration based on the acclaimed ARC™ System technology. Just connect the included MEMS measurement microphone and in a few seconds, the iLoud Precisions will tune themselves to any setting, from mixing room to living room. Extended Controls and Voicing Emulation The iLoud Precision series introduces X-MONITOR, a unique and advanced control application for Mac and Windows that assists with ARC calibration and enables extended acoustic and voicing selection and adjustments, plus convenient access to the settings on the Precision's back panel. The software is plug-and-play via a simple USB connection with no special setup needed. Even more exciting, X-MONITOR allows iLoud Precision to emulate the frequency and phase response of the most revered studio monitors on the market and classic hi-fi speakers. Over 20 monitor profiles are included, and more will be released in the future, so users can A/B test mixes on a wide variety of reference systems quickly, without ever leaving the sweet spot or needing any other speakers. Deep Bass, Immersive-ready With bass extension down to as low as 30 Hz with ARC calibration enabled, iLoud Precision delivers deep, powerful bass that's nevertheless controlled and balanced. And the adjustable bass roll-off lets iLoud Precisions emulate other playback systems and integrate with a sub, for unparalleled low-end performance in any setup. In addition to self-calibrating to the listening environment, iLoud Precision features a range of low- and high-frequency management options, including a switchable Full/35/50/65/80 Hz high-pass filter to optimize their performance with Atmos® and other immersive setups. Isolation Pods and Remote Control Each iLoud Precision not only includes an ARC measurement microphone, but also a kit of 4 iLoud Isolation Pods that dramatically reduce the propagation of vibrations between the speaker and supporting surface. An optional iLoud Precision Remote Control is also available to quickly switch between X-MONITOR speaker emulations and/or functions like ARC On/Off, Mute or Dim. The remote also works with ARC to control the measurement/room calibration process, while providing visual feedback on the calibration status and monitor settings. Completely Made in Italy Not only are iLoud Precision studio monitors developed in Italy, but they are also completely manufactured in the country, leveraging the traditional handmade craftsmanship that have made Italian products an iconic reference in the world for quality manufacturing and innovative design. 12. I like finding small dev gems who are turning out great products that are every bit as good (sometimes perhaps better) than the big guys, and for not a ton of money. Since Labor day is coming up, what are the best *small time* devs should I be checking out for sales and any time of year, all categories? Looks like people like Ben Osterhouse's stuff. Who else out there?

  21. Plot thickens... Last week I was just a humble guy trying to add some lush synth textures to a standard rock band setup. FM8 at $10 was a good steal for that. Today I'm messing around with a 48-oscillator galore of sound synthesis, and an 11-operator FM workstation. Meanwhile, you did a better job than the entire Tracktion marketing team right there.

  34. This or bounce+archive (+disconnect for synth) to ensure access to the audio and save custom presets by project or take note of factory presets used in the project notes and when possible, save installers. KORG leaves installers on disk after install so, they make it easy to backup installers. KORG is new to VST3 and they have struggled with their first attempts. Might be best to use the VST2 plug-ins for a while longer at least until their VST3 release notes are clear of showstoppers such as lack of persistent presets.

  37. No, that's Auto-Punch, which is what I was talking about in Scenario 2. This is not what he's asking about. He wants to say "I want it to play my project for X amount of bars before I start recording, wherever I place my Now Time and stop when I choose," not "I will place my cursor X amount of bars before I want to start and set punch points for where it starts recording" - this is two different things. Basically, this is taking a couple of steps out of the workflow: you set your Pre-Roll for 2 bars, you place your cursor wherever you want (eg: exactly on the start of the verse) and press R. It will automatically give you a 2 bar lead in, playing the project, before recording starts. No need to set punch points, no need for you to set the Now Time 2 bars before when you want to record and hit record manually... you choose a spot and it gives you the lead in. Cakewalk doesn't do this.

  40. To actually clarify what people are talking about in this thread, without all of the bickering and stupid crap, I'm going to assume @Eezye meant the following: Scenario 1 example: While the transport is stopped, you have your Now Time on measure 20, and you've set a pre-roll of 2 measures. You press R to record, and playback starts from measure 18, and actually begins recording from measure 20, and continues until you press stop. Scenario 2 example: Essentially this is Auto-Punch but doesn't stop. You choose the measure you want the punch to activate, let Cakewalk play from wherever, and it kicks in to record from that measure, but continues until it's stopped or taken out of record mode manually. These are both different to the metronome count-in because that only plays the metronome before the transport starts, ie: you're not actually hearing the music so you can play along with it. Is this all correct? I can see the use for Scenario 1, it'd save a couple of keystrokes or dropping markers to help identify the places where you'd want to start the transport to give you enough time to get ready to sing or play your phrase. Although if I was intending to do this stuff without taking my hands off of my instrument, I would tend to set up a MIDI foot controller and map it to the transport buttons and just let it play from a few measures back. This is doable today, with the caveat that you have to find your lead in yourself before you start recording. But as it stands, actual pre-roll as described above is not in Cakewalk.

  46. Hi Justin The vocals are good. The overall mix feels a little strange to me though - the vocals come out shining, and the I can hear the highs of the hats, but all the other instruments sound like a lowpass was applied to them. Try some parallel compression on the drums, as Wookiee mentioned. Also try putting a tiny bit of EQ on the snares at around 7k to help them shine a bit. For the kick, you probably want to hear the attack rather than the thud - try cutting a little at around 400Hz, and raising a little at around 5k. Feel free to ignore if that's not the sound you want though.

  47. You probably don't have everything set correctly. I just tested this to make sure there wasn't some new bug and I'm not having an issue. Try this to test. Insert the TTS-1 and open the GUI interface. Set it's output to your Master buss. Check it is working by clicking the note icons at the bottom of the GUI mixer. Insert a new midi track Set the midi tracks input to your controller ( i used the virtual controller for this test) Set the midi track output to the TTS1 Set the midi track Channel to desired channel. Now toggle the midi tracks input echo until it is orange and play a few notes to see if the meters are moving. There should be 3 meters responding, the midi track, the TTS-1 instrument track and the TTS-1 GUI channel strip. If you don't see the meter responding then you might have more than one TTS-1 inserted. Check " Tracks" - " Tracks Manager" for hidden tracks. Toggle record for the track and then hit R for record. You should hear the TTS-1 as well as see the channel level meter responding as you record. Another issue is if you have the Microsoft GS Wavetable synth checked under preference/ midi/ devices. Un check this, you don't it.
