  1. Do you have the "automatic chords" mode in the CHORDS section of the interface enabled? It sounds like that might be the key to getting it to work on your end. The automatic chords mode lets you play even just triads and it will translate that to voicings on the banjo that take into consideration the current fretting position, alternate tunings, capo position, etc. The MIDI files for all the factory demos (and the exact presets they use) are included as an additional optional download on the download page for each library. That way you can see how certain effects and parts were achieved in the demos. That being said, it sounds like having simpler MIDI files, maybe just focusing on a single groove or style of playing rather than a full song, would be helpful--especially as part of a video tutorial that shows how to create that groove/sound from the ground up.

  3. Also, SnapHeap has an Asteroids-y game built into it. I am not making this up. I just found it by clicking on a button I couldn't identify. Click on the odd little button in the upper right and it will start: Observe this warning: $29, and I bet there are no Waves plug-ins with Easter Eggs this fun.

  8. And anyone with a recent Arturia V Collection already has the Mellotron V. • You have a great collection of the best original Mello tape sounds. • You can use your own samples as "tapes" if you want (looped or non-looped). This way you will have an ever growing assortment of sounds. The samples will play through the emulated "tape mechanism", which will give them a vintage sound that can't be achieved anywhere else

  18. I went ahead and grabbed The Famous E Electric Piano and while I did already have some options for Rhodes, this one really is quite nice. I don't even know how to describe it, but it's got a warm an intimate kind of feel and sound to it 🙂 I love the way it sounds when you hold a note for longer and that really nice vibrato. That's probably one of the big differences between what I had and this one. I could probably add some effects to my existing synths/instruments and get a bit closer to it, but some of the supplied presets get it perfect, so for what it cost, it's worth it. There are a decent number of presets too. I tend to program my own when it comes to synths, basses and other things, but not so much pianos (yet!). There's a good variety in there too. Apart from the sound though, this company just seems to get it. I haven't brought anything from them before, so I was impressed by all the simple touches, like clear installation instructions with the serials for Native Access built into the instructions, exact file sizes to check the downloads and a few other things that made for a nice and simple overall experience. I haven't tried the freebies yet either. I suspect this won't be my last purchase from them! 🤣

  20. Legacy Cakewalk instruments are old, unmaintained code. Which in many cases will still work fine, until it doesn't! If the problem is due to a software incompatibility with Reason, then you would need to convince Reason support to implement a workaround fix. I ran into a similar issue using a Cakewalk instrument with Ableton Live some years ago, and Ableton support straight up told me they were not going to support any end-of-life plugins. It is what it is. If the old stuff still works, then great! Otherwise not so much... One other thing to consider is that you may not have all of the older Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables installed on your machine. That can sometimes cause errors with older software being run on newer Windows machines, independent of the DAW being used.

  21. Whenever I post suggestions, or report any "bug", some always appear to throw sand in the fire, I don't know if they really want the DAW to evolve or if it stays still full of "Bugs", I think the second option is the most appropriate. It's the same when we talk about improvements or new features to improve Workflow, conformists appear talking about leaving things as they are. @murat k. As for improving video support, I agree with you and it really has nothing to do with the system that it goes black when we pause, but rather it's a problem with the DAW. Below are the videos with the white video you made available, running on Cakewalk and Cubase 12 Pro. Cakewalk. 2022-07-07 21-32-44.mp4 Cubase 12 Pro. 2022-07-07 21-30-37.mp4

  23. Likewise, I discovered I have it already. Finally looking at it now. Snap Heap looks like an effects rack like MixBox and Guitar Rig. It does seem well designed--with a fairly clean, functional, and spartan GUI (reminds me of Ableton Live). I've been learning about effects starting with AmpliTube and Guitar Rig in the context of guitar effects, but seeing how effects are used in SampleTank and Syntronik and then MixBox has helped me better understand the overall concepts. I find it useful to look at preset effects chains to learn how others are using the effects. Having another source of effects presets is great for education.

  24. Accidental notes outside of a scale are used all the time in composition in passing to create tension, but generally not as a resolving part of a chord structure. IE; glissando, or grace notes.

  28. I picked up Soma, Bass Mint, Bax, and Bettermaker for $51 using my $50 voucher. Soma was what I was after...the rest I didn't have, and were on my list, so rather than spend $31 on Soma, I ponied up another $20, and spent $12.75 each on Soma, Bass Mint, Bax, and Bettermaker. That's still cheaper than even the $14.99 deals of yester-yore!

  30. I know you've been on this site for years and I have seen you grow , always with the talent but lacking the means to achieve your desired goal .. I think you have done that with this piece of work. I love the arrangement and mix, the whole thing doesn't telegraph where the singer ( you ) is gonna take you and it's a quality that my hero, Sir Paul McCartney does, in spades! I love this song and it's unpredictable movement. Great stuff John ... Oh and I hope she liked it 👍 ATB Steve

  32. The song was written and produced by me about 20 years ago using an 8 Tascam midi studio, Roland U220,Dx7 and a Shure mic with various Boss equipment .. and a much younger me. The version here was copied to Cake from the Tascam, with the addition of some compression etc and then mastered using my Sound Cloud account. Have to say it seemed easier to write songs when sitting at the top of my stairs, I sometimes feel all the toys to hand just get in the way of songwriting ... But it's too late now LOL Many thanks for the comments and thankyou for listening. ATB Steve

  41. I know Fleer loves it, and it does sound great. But, like you I have Rhodes coming out the wazoo, and can't bring myself to buy another...especially after picking up Keyboard in Blue for $25 (also Fleer's fault...). Realistically, I'll probably always turn to Pianoteq for EPs anyway. I did register for the mandolin, though! I'm doing it!

  42. I realize that guitarists won't be impressed by this and I put zero work into it (that is, rehearsing), it's a series of first takes but the reason I think it's decent is my enthusiasm. All of the guitar parts were played in real-time without the auto-chord/strumming function, as I wanted to be able to quickly go from chords to single notes in real-time. For me, the results I got from playing Evolution Rock Standard greatly inspired my playing. This was the first complete song that I played from start to finish more than 20 years since tendonitis stopped me from playing professionally or even as a hobbyist (for the most part, I still continued to play and write music for my kids when they were young; I stopped playing music after they got older). So, for Christmas 2020, my teenage son asked for a gaming computer and midi keyboard. I started playing songs i wrote decades ago and teaching him to play Beatles songs (I love that band and my kids grew up hearing their music all the time). So I started showing him a few Beatles tunes and thought I sounded decent on some of them (I was never a lead singer, just a drummer and keyboardist who did background vocals). So, a few months later, I decided to get another DAW computer (yes, I still was coming here and buying stuff when I didn't even have a properly equipped machine or any of my midi stuff hooked up to play) and pressed record and got this first take on me on electric piano then I added two instances of Evolution Rock Standard using factory presets and Abbey Road 60s drums. The timing is by no means perfect, and my drumming and playing isn't impressive, but I still think it turned out pretty well and the guitar parts were a blast to play (I'm doing leads all over the second half of the song, largely to distract from my voice).

  43. I would say that the vocals on the first minute or so are to far back, but then they seem to be more forward. So maybe revisit the first part of the vocals in the mix, maybe it was a different take you mixed in for the first part. This is an in you face mix, full on, the playing is good, the maybe, or just be cool with it. In these modern times everyone is a critic, film maker, artist, musician, influencer, blah blah blah. Opinions are like bungholes, but being popular is to be in the sausage grinder. We all know they use the best ingredients in sausage, right? I loved it, it was great, and for the amount of coin you had to expend to present it: I consider it a gem. Nice work, and thanks for that
