  2. Please don't. At least not unless you're testing it in a virtual machine. USB drives are the perfect attack vector for malware, because they automatically run software as soon as you plug them in. Yes, it's a real thing. Think about it: what do the sellers expect to get out of this? They have to know they won't make any money on SSD sales, since burned customers will be returning them and Walmart will drop the product after complaints roll in. I predict you'll start seeing warnings pop up about how your system has been compromised, with a helpful 800 number to "Microsoft Support".

  5. I use a browser extension called Fakespot, which points out fake reviews and other warnings. This is what popped up when I went to that page: By "seller" they are not referring to walmart.com, but to Enlightened, the actual seller. I tried to find information about the brand, but couldn't find anyone selling it other than Walmart. I am tempted to buy one just to see what the deal really is. There has been a rash of bogus flash drives lately. What's worse, the device reports a spoofed capacity value to the O/S, resulting in missing or corrupt files if you try to write to it. Not what you want to back up your important files to. Some even come with malware pre-installed.

  6. Here's my new video. I was trying to make music out of my comfort zone. I've fooled around with XO, but never actually finished any music with it. Turns out you can't play it into your DAW, you have to output wavs. The cool thing is that you can output out all the stems. And because it's XO, I didn't just use Delhia de France's sounds like loops--I was able to put all these noises I've collected into the drum parts. But definitely XO and de France got this project started. Once I saw Bettie dancing to her beats, it was a go. I thought it was worth a shot to try to get Realitone Blue to sing "Beh-tee," and I think it worked out pretty well. It's hard for me to think of this piece without it. At the end, I even have two Blues singing harmony. But the best thing (as with my previous video) is Evolution Series' Brontë. This is such a cool VI. I expect I'll be using it a lot. I think it kicks the ***** of the competition. So beautiful. I wondered if I would ever get round to using Boz Digital's El Clapo and Das Boot, but they are in this too. There's a few bars of Butch Vig at the beginning too. I did think for a while about making this a binaural mix, but I decided it was too complicated for that. But my experience with binaural led me to make this kind of nutzo spacially.

  16. This is a bonus for Studio One 5 users of UJAM virtual bassists v2.1. The key switches are already mapped and named in the Studio One 5 menu, so no manual key switch mapping is required. And the bass can follow the chord track, with the virtual player adapting to the changes in the chord track. A short tutorial demo:

  22. I have also now tried sending Audio in Cakewalk from one channel to another using connector as follows. Insert instrument on a track and insert connector in FX rack Insert an audio track and insert connector in FX rack Connect both connectors If I mute the instrument track and play the instrument from my MIDI controller, the audio arrives at the audio track and plays back fine with no detectable latency (buffering set to auto). Unmuting the instrument track so that audio comes out of both tracks it's hard to discern any timing difference. Again, it won't allow me to connect any more than two instances so I guess it's a demo limitation (awaiting a response from support). So it seems to be low latency in this instance although this isn't very taxing. Next, I will try the same over my LAN between my desktop and laptop.

  28. #1: This is the power of the magnet of the speaker. -12 Wb to +12 Wb range. I think of it like a "tone" parameter that can add a solidness to things. You can also change the magnet element between Ferrite M, Ferrite H, AlNiCo and Neodymium. #2: Yeah, I guess. I look at it for two things... "backing off" when things are sounding unintentionally broken especially with an old speaker chosen that has sweet tone but breaks apart when the guitar playing gets too rambunctious, and for making things sound intentionally broken, like what'd I'd expect from The Kinks or something. Distortion like this is so subjective, you'll need to just eff with it and see if it's for you. I like it. A nice non-guitar based application- I use this pushed on 808 bass mults from time to time with a HPF when I'm having difficultly getting them to translate on smaller speakers. I demo'd this in session at a big Sound Motel, and everyone in the room was stoked with the sounds we were getting, so I bought it (on sale but more than this) instantly. For people working from a home studio, or a place without the ability to record guitar speakers properly - this should be even more useful. Watch the youtubes, demo it yourself, and you should know if it's worth it to you. It's more for tone chasers, imo.

  29. Those channels are probably meant to be used with line-level devices. I have similar channels on my Yamaha mixer and use them with an MP3 player at venues that don't have music for intermissions. The easiest solution is to move your keyboard to two of the other channels (1-10) and pan them hard L/R, as suggested by 57Gregy. (Except that channel 1 should be left and channel 2 should be right, as nature intended ) If all your other channels are already spoken for, then an inexpensive preamp could also solve your dilemma. Can you just crank up the volume in Cakewalk? Sure. But you'll also be cranking up the noise floor, which may or may not be an issue, depending on how quiet your mixer is.

  34. Flintpope brings you old-school string sounds with twelve variations on a theme of low fidelity orchestral audio. This is no Mellotron but it does hark back to that era when the Prog bands used fake strings, mainly because they were cheaper than the real thing, but more interestingly to add a peculiar dreamy atmosphere to those classic late sixties and early seventies productions. Get a stack of twelve libraries in one instrument that aims to give you a taste of the pre-Fairlight era of recording. Free or pay what you like you beauty! 35. Presets are XML files. Easy enough to modify the "BC Connector VST data\Presets" installed along with the plug-in with a text editor and save them into your "Documents\Blue Cat Audio\Blue Cat's Connector\Presets"

  36. Thanks @scook I guess I was trying to see how far I could get without rtfm I also heard back from Blue Cat support so top marks for a speedy response. Would be nice if it auto-allocated or at least prompted to use the next available port. I guess it's v1.0 so maybe in a future version. Also, having added 4 instances I couldn't see a way to change the port before enabling send/rcv (but I will check the manual). So the second pair had to be turned on (and then fail to connect) before you can change the port number. Then, after that, they wouldn't connect after changing the port number. I had to delete them and re-insert two new instances then enable send/rcv and set the ports. They then connected and worked as per the other send/rcv pair. I see there's a preset for "Send - App 8080" so I guess you could set up a user preset "Send - App 8081" and the same for receive to solve the above issue.

  38. I guess it would depend on the specific use of it. So far I have been testing it out to solve a specific MIDI routing bug in a particular app. With MIDI I wouldn't expect there to be much latency unless sending over a network. Anyway, for this use I am finding some limitations (this may of course be a demo limitation or my unfamiliarity with the software)... I have a send instance of Connector sending MIDI from an instrument layer I have two instances of Connector and I am trying to set them up to receive MIDI from the above The first receiver instantly connects to the sender but the second one remains as [not connected]. I have named all of the instances appropriately but cannot find a way to set the second receiver to also receive MIDI from the sender. I have also tried adding a second sender but they still remain unconnected. Maybe this is a demo limitation IDK. The web page states the demo limitations as follows: Limited number of instances of the plug-in per session. The plug-in is regularly bypassed for a few milliseconds. I have raised a support ticket with BC Audio.

  41. Adjusted my post accordingly - "big one for us is ITS FREE FOR A DECENT PERIOD - 60 days evaluation". My main point was when working with a group of people .. cost will always be a factor to get people to buy into something usage wise .. initially and longer term. The least number of barriers to get people onside the better in a group. This of course is where Cakewalk comes into its own, but its PC based and not on MAC .. which is in my case for the band with mac users and pc users the reason I use reaper for band purposes. Outside of that I use Cakewalk as always

  42. Hi Steve, thanks for this and other listens ! Yes it needs more love and time and I will get back to it with fresh ears. I am curious to see how adding bass will be because its not something I had done, but will try it now based on the much needed feedback. I will also beef up the drums, probably change the kick. As for my vocals, as I have said before I am really struggling to sing since gaining pollen allergies, and with the juniper out and rising in amounts, I probably wont get a better take. I had to do this vocal attempt like 9am (and I am not a morning person at all !) before I went outside or opened doors. Honestly I don't even recall how many times I sang it at night (my usual music time) and tried to make it ok each time with tools but couldn't. Part of why I was working on this an extra long time and lost my objectivity about the mix. Anyways, I will get back to it sometime soon, thanks !

  45. Hi Treesha, I have to agree with the existing comments here, after a couple of run through's, I got the impression it was a first take to hear what the overall song sounded like. For me I thought it was something worth a little love and time. Your vocal suits this song and there needs to be more emotion to convey the message, as said the actual backing does need work, bass & drums but the song is worth the effort.. I listen to your stuff and like it ...this is no different so I'd be interested in a later mix. Steve
