Can I just wish everyone here a Happy Xmas, this is such a great forum. My questions as a novice have sometimes been idiotically simple but always I get helpful, measured responses and nothing rude or disparaging, even though everyone has forgotten more than I know. My recordings get better all the time ( from a very low start to be fair) A big thanks to all who replied to my posts over this year, even doing screenshots and little vids, wow, and somehow kept their patience. And a special thanks to John at Cactus Music for helping me, and doing those little " how to" videos. Out there, this is clearly a completely bonkers and often quite nasty World, but this little forum is a part of it that shines out as being pleasant helpful and , well...just NICE! Firstly as an atheist I can't believe in a god who allows his creations to kill each other and destroy the environment and one who will let corrupt dictators live opulent lives whilst innocent children die of curable diseases. Secondly I wrote a lovely letter to Santa a few years back asking for an IPhone and he got me a Windows phone the B*stard! p.s. apologies for this post entering into religious territories, it was intended to be a joke about depth and shallowness p.p.s. and apologies also to those who still believe in Santa Claus

@PavlovsCat I think you did a fine job on the song and remember if the song invokes feelings from the listener it is a winner! I would say you have a winner and wouldn't delete it. Think you should post it in the song thread.

Could've fooled me. There's a few things I might change, but I think they're more like aesthetic choices than actual flaws. Could've fooled me. Even if you might not have the range or technique of someone like Chris Cornell, you're in tune and in time. That's what matters. If you do that, I will find you and I will hurt you.😁

Okay @Doug Rintoul I wrote this song in 15 minutes. A long time ago I was a working musician (a drummer, whose first instrument is piano) for 12 years and had a seriously bad repetitive stress injury that caused lifelong tendinitis that stopped me from playing. I can only play for a short time before I get pain. But early this year, after 21 years of not playing, I decided to start playing again (of course, as a hobbyist). I know extremely little about mixing, so keep the expectations low. And of course, my playing, after years of not practicing and not being able to spend much time playing, isn't very good and I was never a lead vocalist. Okay, those are the caveats. Here's my Christmas during a pandemic song written on Monday -- I actually wrote it following a FB post by a friend of a friend whose father just died from COVID-19, but it's about cherishing those in your life, not about her loss.

Ok forgive me, there is a lot to wade thru here, I might understand the issue, I might not. I do a lot of audio design, vo recording, sound effects etc..to picture or absolute time, then score (compose) music to picture (or even just the audio). I change tempos all the time. Some audio i want to stay right where it's at and other elements i want to follow the new tempos (tempi?). So the trick is choosing an element's time base. Is it musical or absolute. you can change that in the clip and track properties on the left. So let's say I have placed a musical audio clip in the timeline as part of the composition, say a rhythm guitar. It starts in measure "X", but now the tempo has got to change. I "bounce to Clips" the guitar part making sure the clip is exactly at the start and end of a measure. I can change the tempo any way I want, then time stretch the guitar part back to the end of the measure that it was at. I have done this many times always successful. If the time stretched audio is what I like.. I bounce it to clips again, cause i found that working with a lot of time stretched elements will cause apps to crash...this is true in Protools, Cubase, etc. What I think your are trying to do is create a scenario where CbB detects beats in all your audio clips and adjusts everything to match a new tempo...that might work if you convert all your audio to a groove clip. that seems to be fraught with issues. I have seen this work, but never always successful ...in many other Daws. I hope I helped and did not waste your time. Best! Good Luck.

I'm very sorry to hear that, Doug. I'm very familiar with experiencing the first Christmas and birthday where a parent or sibling is gone. It's really difficult. When I was a kid, our mother was a classically trained pianist and music teacher, and my three siblings -- all of us multi-instrumentalists -- played in a family band and would perform around town especially around Christmastime, where we'd do a whole show of Christmas music. But tragedy struck and I lost all three siblings far too young, so Christmas music has an extra-special sentimental aspect to it, and I had all of that in mind when I wrote my little Christmas song. Loss is an awful teacher to have, but it has taught me to not take those in my life for granted. Thanks for sharing so openly. I'll probably delete my Christmas song in a bit to lessen my embarrassment.

While on one hand, you're correct about religious discussion being against forum rules, this thread -- the original post -- is explicitly about a religious holiday that excludes those who don't observe the holiday. (I do, FTR). Granted, the holiday is incredibly secularized and actually was never a true religious celebration. The head of the religion taught to celebrate numerous holidays --- none of which are followed by the majority of Protestant and Catholics today -- but never Christmas or Easter, those were invented holidays. The Christmas holiday was invented by the Romans in the 300s and became popular in the US largely due to the popularity of Dicken's A Christmas Carol in the late 1800s. Initially, devout Christians in the US actually created laws banning the celebration as offensive. But it is a bastardized kind of religious-secular blended holiday. So, admonishing someone not to discuss religion in a thread that is explicitly using a religion-related greeting is a bit ironic. I would cut him some slack and heck, I wrote a Christmas song this week.

Hi Zok. Just got a new family dog, a Samoyed. A breed apparently named after a Finnish tribe, or close to the Sami language at least. Anyway, as I once lectured in Rovaniemi at the North Pole, we decided to call him Suomi. Merry Xmas!

Cakewalk is fantastic. It's been my DAW of choice since 1991 and gets better all the time. Now working on my 16th CD using CW to compose and produce my compositions and recordings. Thank you so much for creating, maintaining and upgrading CW. The music industry has no idea what it's missing in terms of a DAW that has so many great features. Even the earliest features, like being able to rename controllers, a color-coded event list and the general look of CW still add value to this DAW.
