  4. "Remember, remember, the fifth of November. Gunpowder, treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot." Tension and suspense. The two things needed to create dramatic moments. These are also the two key elements that Fawkes is built around. Drawing inspiration from zeitgeisty imagery in the media and the polarization of the world, Fawkes is a cinematic tension library. "When hopes and dreams are loose in the street, it is well for the timid to lock doors, shutter windows and lie low until the wrath has passed." Fawkes blends organic sound sources with synth sound design to create a dark cinematic world of drones, pads, synths, basses and percussions. The 100 patches are designed to move and weave around everything that makes you feel uneasy. With a range of mellow to brutal, static and safe is not what to call this library. "To evolve we must be free, and we cannot have freedom if we are not rebels, because no tyrant whatsoever has respected passive people." Contents 100 cinematic patches for Kilohearts' Phase Plant synth and takes up 200 mb of hard drive space. Tech Specs Fawkes requires Kilohearts' Phase Plant to work. Pricing Fawkes retails for 29€ (excluding VAT where applicable) with an introduction price of 15€ (excluding VAT) until the 3rd of December 2021. Get it here: https://www.manmakesnoise.com/fawkes

  5. Free DYNO MOD The Dyno Mod was a famous hardware add-on for the Electric Pianos in the early '70s. We recreated the FX to be used for free on any Electric Piano VST/AU instrument, though it's specially designed for Sampleson's EP's. The effect was developed to enhance high and low harmonics and to give a wider feel to Sampleson's Electric Pianos. Despite this, the module can be used over any Electric Piano VST. https://sampleson.com/free-dyno-effect.html (not sure if this is something new can someone confirm)

  6. Thanks so much my friend, I really appreciate the kind words. What happens to me is when I play a virtual instrument something unique is always triggered somehow, with this it triggered that "Spain" motif and it was over from there. I have all of these fragments of musical ideas and such rolling around up there and all it takes is the right nudge from a library to jostle things right through the fingers, It's just getting those fingers to translate. It is an amazing experience for sure.

  12. Jimmy Johnson (guitarist and founding member of the swampers) invited myself and a few friends to come jam and hang out a few years ago at that studio. Sadly he passed away not all that long after the invite, so the trip never happened.

  14. My band is back on line now and about ten gigs in, happy to report that Bandlab Sonar handles everything superbly. Multitrack audio mixed with plugins, midi to outboard and synths, interface with aforementioned footswitch and driving the whole MIDI to DMX lighting rig. Really chuffed with it. Some excellent gigs too. 2022 diary now filling up too. Thanks Bandlab Sonar and thanks to lot for your help. HARDDRIVE

  16. The Famous "E" is a gem for sure, knowing it was the keyboard used on so many of the arrangements I really enjoy (especially Jarreau). The benefit I see with Soundpaint is first of all Cost. $20 for an accessibly Rhodes like this is really something, and I can see it being especially useful on a live rig as the CPU and memory resources are very good. Side by side with the Famous E, Keyscape, or other Rhodes titles will certainly expose some of the limitations but out of the box it felt instantly fun to play. The other part of having it in the Soundpaint universe is the possibility of using the sources to layer and morph with other titles in the library. I have done some experiments morphing it with the Steinway and it is very interesting. Now if I can just nail that instrument break!!!! 😎

  19. The main reason it got smaller was they switched to using the NI Kontakt compressed format. Before then all the samples were uncompressed. You could actually compress the old version yourself (thought it took a while), I know because I did it. There was a long period before they started offering the updated and compressed version directly.

  22. Well, Famous E surely has a lot more depth. While I really liked the free piano in Soundpaint, one thing is for sure, Troel's greatly oversold it. It isn't a fantastically detailed piano as he pitched it in the pre-sale hype video. But, from my point of view, it's really all about what you're going to use it for. If detail isn't that big of a deal to you and you have $20 USD to spare and love the tone, I would say, why not? I've bought a bunch of Past to Future libraries, realizing they don't have the kind of detail I sometimes want. But if I'm doing a song where the tone works and I don't need a very detailed sample library, I'm going to use it. What I'm hoping they release soon is a good sounding upright. Piano is my first instrument, and I fell in love with Yamaha grands early on, and we had a baby grand and then an upright at our house, but for some reason, I'm a total sucker for an upright with some character to it. I really like the patches for the free piano that comes with Soundpaint, if they can do something cool with an upright piano, my credit card is available.

  23. Good find. Going off their usual schedule 11.5 was due to be announced soon, so it looks like they will skip a year. Hopefully this means v12 will be a much more significant update and hopefully it will have the new dongle free licensing.

  29. 80 GB, actually. And over 100 zip files to download, I hear (now it's only 40 rar files). I can't say it raised my confidence in the quality of this library when Kirk Hunter posted a YouTube comment saying: "We recently found a lot of duplicate samples and managed to strip it down to 45GB". I can understand a dozen or so duplicates, but 35 gigabytes? How do you NOT notice something like that straight away? I'm going to grab this anyway, because I'd rather regret buying it than not buying it.

  32. Bulent at KV331 Audio has been planning a SynthMaster 3 for about as long as Urs Hechmann at u-he has been planning a Zebra 3. 😂 From what I have heard, he was going to start full time work on SM3 development a couple years ago, but got sidetracked with his iOS projects. That is finished now, but I think that Mac silicon threw him a new curve ball. These more recent updates that he has been making for SM2.9 have been to enable technology compatibility with SynthMaster One. So that presets from either synth can be loaded into a SynthMaster 3 layer. So yes, SM3 should be a combination of the two existing synths, with some additional new features, improved user interface, more layers, granular synthesis, wavetable editor, etc. But these current maintenance and bug fixes to SM2 will ensure that it's still a strong synth on its own for the time being!

  33. Yes its hard to find since it depended on the order in which the sends from the patch point were created. The bug has been there since the creation of aux tracks so its good to get this fixed.

  34. Origin is essential. Especially if you're doing the ambient electronica thing of dropping in dialog samples. It does excellent vinyl and tape emulation. When I got it, it eliminated half a dozen other plug-ins from my collection.

  35. There are many folks asking "what is SoundPaint all about?", and I think that you have probably nailed it with that simple statement! Layering is probably the most effective technique to achieve new sounds and textures in sound design. Doing it in a synth rack, starting with MIDI hardware, and then with instrument tracks within a DAW has always been something that I really enjoy. But anytime one is able to do it within a single interface in a virtual instrument, it's a time saver for sure! So far I only have the Steinway and the guitar in SoundPaint, and mixing them together has been quite interesting! I already have enough other synth and sample libraries to keep me busy for the next 100 years, but I am intrigued by the possibilities for sound design within this product. I am open to getting a SoundPaint library that's something like Bioscape from Luftrum, to layer with a few conventional instruments. https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/luftrum-bioscape

  43. Yuli also contributed a number of presets to the Arturia Pigments 3 factory library, as well as to the P3 expansion banks Amethyst, Crimson, Malachite, Ochre, and Onyx. He has added some very nice pads and leads to SynthMaster 2. Worth checking them out! Selcuk has added some very interesting presets to SM, especially like his arpeggios! And NatLife has some very modern and aggressive sounds. Watch out for the volume boost on most of his presets.
