  5. It seems more that the days of widespread forum participation are slowly passing away. I do wonder, though, these youngsters who consider forums to be an outdated form of community information exchange, what platform(s) are they using in place of them? Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, there's nothing that I've seen that can touch the encyclopedic density of persistent information that a forum generates (which the young ones also benefit from via Google searches). As far as I know, I can't topic search a Facebook Group. Nor a YouTube comments section (I notice that YouTube added a "community" tab to channels that functions more like....a forum). Reddit discussions seem to have a much shorter half-life than in a forum. Besides the ease of information access, there's the sense of community that's like walking into a favorite cafe where you've gotten to know the regulars. I guess since I started out as a BBSer 30-odd years ago and still have IRL friends from those days, I'm pretty used to threaded message communities. FIDOnet, then usenet after that. For anyone concerned about Cakewalk attracting a younger user base outside of this forum, check out the views counts on X.E.L. Ohh's YouTube channel. His tips on Piano Roll View got10,000 views, his one on using Graillon in CbB got 27,000, how to record vocals 16,000, and weirdly enough his video on making a beat using only TTS-1 got 4,300 views. He has 3,000 subscribers, which isn't exactly Rick Beato territory, but that's 3,000 people who want to know whenever he drops another tutorial. Another YouTuber is Mike of Creative Sauce, whose CbB videos draw in the tens of thousands, and his Cakewalk Basics video has drawn almost 250,000 views. I don't know (and don't really care) how those numbers stack up against, say, people who do Cubase tutorials, but I like the idea of a quarter of a million people watching a video about how to use Cakewalk. BandLab sure don't seem to be throwing money at advertising, the budget looks to be going to pay developers, which is fine with me. REAPER looks to have a solid place in the market based on being a quality product at a low price, and I think they've relied on word of mouth (to a fault at times).

  7. His main issue was fixed in 2019 when I reworked automation to address some reports of lost settings with certain plugins. Of course he isn’t around anymore to attest it. Some issues when not reproducible readily can be infernally difficult to isolate. It took working with several users offline and running tests before I was able to resolve it.

We sold the 5 Major Carriers for Cell Phones, Direct TV, and Dish Network, and a host of other Prepaid Cell Phones... I took the moniker "cclarry" when I started working for Courtesy Communications,, and have had it ever since... Now you know, as Paul Harvey would say, "the rest of the story" LOL

  18. QUEEN Elizabeth and Dolly Parton die on the same day, and both go before an Angel to find out if they'll be admitted to Heaven. Unfortunately, there's only one space left that day, so the Angel must decide which of them gets in. The Angel asks Dolly if there's some particular reason why she should go to Heaven. Dolly takes off her top and says, "Look at these, they're the most perfect breasts God ever created, and I'm sure it will please God to be able to see them every day, for eternity". The Angel thanks Dolly and asks Her Majesty the same question. The Queen takes a bottle of Perrier out of her purse, and drinks it down. Then, pees into a toilet and pulls the lever. The Angel says, "ok, your Majesty, you may go in". Dolly is outraged and asked,"What was that all about, I show you two of God's own perfect creations and you turn me down. She pees into a toilet and she gets in! Would you explain that to me"? "Sorry, Dolly says the Angel, but even in Heaven A Royal Flush Beats a Pair No Matter How Big They Are". source: http://www.jokes4us.com/celebrityjokes/dollypartonjokes.html

  21. I totally agree with you; software should never pretend to be smarter than you. Even if sometimes it is, it's best not to assume that by default. However, in this case Melodyne has actually taken a logical path. Melodyne's main purpose is to accurately detect pitch. It's really, really good at that. But some bits are atonal and have no pitch. The sounds of hard consonants, "S"s and "SH"s, vocal fries, breath noises and so on. Prior to version 5, these components were simply ignored. You can, of course, still ignore them if you like. But now Melodyne identifies them so you can adjust their levels. That's a good thing. If Melodyne didn't offer that, then what could it possibly let you do with non-pitched components? Nothing. Now you can do something with them. That's not arrogance, it's perfectly reasonable. Melodyne is not a de-esser, it's an editor. You shouldn't allow it to make sibilance corrections on its own, any more than you'd allow it to make pitch corrections on its own - even though that's what it does best!

  27. The search box to the left of Support below the user login is a site search. If I need to perform a site search on the old Cakewalk site, usually I filter the return result for "SONAR Platinum, Professional and Artist" Then modify the url to point to the Cakewalk documentation For example, to change the link from the SONAR Platinum version of the MIDI Event Filter MFX http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Plug-ins.3.html#1630159 to the current CbB page, change the product in the url from SONAR to Cakewalk http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Plug-ins.3.html#1630159 Often this will bring up the exact page. If not it is generally pretty close. Not perfect but adequate. Also, if I know the feature was added to CbB, I open up the New Features section of the help and use the browser word search to find the appropriate link or open the release notes and search it

  29. I'll probably hang with my current version of Waveform for a while. It does everything I need it to. I like what the Tracktion dev team is doing, as they are a very small team with some nice chops and a unique and refreshing approach to DAW design for musicians. But my biggest gripe with the company is that they are YEARS behind in editing and updating the Waveform User Guide. The latest version 2021-v2 that I looked at was still stuck at "work in progress". While the getting started info and the UI changes seem to have been updated, many of the screen shots in the chapters look like they are from the old Tracktion 7. And most of the new features from Waveform 8 on are not covered at all. Chapter 38 is still titled "New in Waveform 8". Then it has a summary list of the new features, followed by the disclaimer "The above new features will each be explained further, in greater detail, in an upcoming revision of this beta user’s manual." Waveform 8, 9, & 10, have come and gone, and we are now on v11.5 and still no new feature updates are covered in the User Guide. SMH. 🙄 In all fairness, when I complained to support, they directed me to the video tutorials that cover the new features. And they said they had engaged their former author to get the manual revised. But that has been a while. Still hoping...

  30. Welcome to the club! Is there anything specific about this theme you'd like to tell us about? Did you have goals in mind, while developing it?

  31. Yep Still like my CbB for mixing and even the STAFF view too. I harp on the STAFF view because with a little love... nevermind Yet Waveform has the sampler, chord track, etc...... Have to agree with that it does take a little getting use to the UI but it doesn't take long.

  34. The thing is that the majority of VST bass offerings are not traditional Fender P bass which is more or less what us old school jammers are used to. A lot of them I find absolutely terrible. Tts1 fingered bass is sort of an example of what I mean. Sounds like a tuned fart The Ample P bass was well done. I also use the Jazz bass patch in SI Bass with a compressor on it and that also comes close to the bass sound I’m used to hearing. I have a very good sounding bass rig with Yamaha bass and a Fender Rumble. But I only use that on real serious original tunes I’m trying to go for 1st class sound. Everything else I just record the bass direct with out fuss and convert to midi and use the Ample bass.

  36. Steve , nice version of Blackbird. I don't think I've ever known a guitarist that didn't learn the song as soon as they were capable of playing it. Good job on the video . I've gotten all the animals , critters , birds etc. used to seeing my trail cam I set up nightly. I've caught foxes , coons , possums and deer all eating together. Even the coyotes and possums get along. Only one racoon is a trouble maker (I think he's a republican) Enjoyed it .. mark

  37. I always liked this track such a wonderful selection of chords and changes. Nice Job Steve always cool to watch the fauna in ones own backyard, we have a sparrowhawk visit us some days to drink from the waterfall that feeds our pond. It always politely leaves all the other birds alone it is like there is a truce at the watering hole here at The 4077. Nice on both counts.

  38. I just tried the Track Options tab > t > p as noted above. Next to having a single keyboard shortcut or a macro or software that sequences keystrokes, Options tab > t > p seems quite efficient to me. No need to set up screensets or re-juggle floating windows. Options tab > t > h and Options tab > t > v also work for horizontal and vertical meters respectively. All the floating windows stay where they were. Just so there's a smaller chance of misunderstanding (which is always possible): we all have our own workflows, preferences, personal efficiencies, etc. What's personally efficient for one person might not be as efficient for another person.

  39. This makes me very happy. For the first time in my life I have something that kinda resembles a studio. I'm talking about the 360 pugin. Unfortunately the zoom function shaves off the fader from view and without zoom I have empty space (2560x1440 monitor). This almost makes me want to dig up my old 1080 monitor from storage just to look at the mixer all the time.

  41. Here's my own recent, somehow strange experience on the automation, with regards to Tempo Track (but not only). When I decided to give the most recent Early Access a spin, I've found out oddities that I couldn't explain. I asked for some clarification whether it's a bug or feature, or my own user error - because I realize I might be missing an fundamental detail here and there of the whole envelopes conception, or anything really. But all I've got in response from the devs was just a silence. On the old forum for the most time I was just a lurker mainly for the lack of confidence when it comes to the language. Yes I can write and read in English but my most concerns that I have are with the underlying tone that always come with the message - here's where I might fail, and more than once, if putting words together the wrong way. But I decided to give myself a second chance for a fresh start here on the new forum and when I saw the EA thread I thought I might be useful by giving a feedback from the user perspective and specifically with decades of experience in working with midi in Cakewalk. So when I saw odd things, where I did something I theoretically shouldn't do as a user, like for example double-clicking in the tempo track while in the shelf tool, and Cakewalk did things it theoretically shouldn't do as a DAW, ie. corrupting the envelope (or as in an yet earlier EA - some funky stuff going with MIDI clip content when editing song parts in the arranger track with the new event overlap option enabled and getting weird results) - I thought that Cakewalk simply should't allow it happen at all. Then I posted about it but got no reaction, nothing. And now I'm left with no clue whether it's something wrong with Cakewalk or with me 😂. Now here's the thing. I saw a recent thread about that more young people should try Cakewalk. Imagine a newcomer wants to get started and is checking out first if it's something right for him or not, without any patience nor passion - no emotions whatsoever. Imagine him making a rachitic move, or be it a muscle memory from another DAW, or even failing mouse - and getting strange output. Will he start with wondering if it's something wrong he's doing or it's the software to blame for being buggy? And I'm not going to even start on the take lanes/clips . Ok, I'll better get my coat...

  44. But back to the younger demographic...I do seminars to at places like MTSU, where the demographic is entirely college age. They're very enthusiastic about the subjects covered in the seminars. They like having their learning process shortened, because they can learn from my mistakes, or gain from my experience. When I talk about Cakewalk, they're responsive. They just don't know about it, or this forum. When forums were the only game in town, sure, that's where you had to go, and participation reflected that. Now there are so many online places to learn things. I just posted an Instagram video on how to create a cool preset in Helix, and it got 2,400 views - more than it would get on the Helix forums. Yet, the Helix forums are the go-to place for deep information, and participation seems to cut across a variety of age groups. There's nothing inherently wrong about like-minded people congregating in the same place, except that given all the competition for attention, it's unlikely that others will stumble on some place by accident that they might want to know about. But, let's not look at the past through rose-colored glasses, either. When this forum was at its peak in terms of attendance, there were a LOT of whiners, spammers (kitchen cabinets in Manchester, anyone?), crazies, and the noise-to-signal ratio was high. The Cakewalk forums were pretty civilized compared to many other places, but in its current incarnation, the crazies are pretty much gone. I still have my Sound, Studio, and Stage forum, which has been in continuous operation for over 25 years. It has nowhere near the participation it once had, but that gives a certain freedom to discuss anything, and not have to deal with crazies. Some of the information in there is pure gold, like a guy who said that he no longer needs to wear headphones when tracking vocals, because he uses a figure-8 pattern mic, and points the null toward the monitor. It really does work, but I would not have considered checking it out without reading his post. Once you record vocals without headphones, you might never go back. Perhaps the biggest problem with forums is lurkers. Lurkers in my forum outnumber posters by 10 or 20:1, and even more. I posted a thread once asking why people didn't participate. One guy said "I feel like I'm attending a panel discussion with smart people, and I have nothing to add." I can't imagine someone saying that on TikTok

  45. Your whole "Why Should You Care" pot calling the kettle black post smacks of elitism. Well THIS forum is about Cakewalk technology, and opinions really don't have much value here or anywhere else for that matter and should be taken with a mere grain of salt. The fact of the matter is running a DAW off line just for the illusion be safe is not only delusional, because you have to go elsewhere online to get HERE into this forum and update your DAW, so losing about 90% efficiency of the business of creating and publishing music. Sounds like a WHOLE LOT of extra unnecessary work to me. Creating music that nobody can hear is like a tree falling in the woods that no one witnesses happening. And SOME of us DO care enough about helping each other out and debunking myths about technology based on misguided opinions and beliefs. As far as opinions go.... I have the same opinion of recording music on an antiquated Windows 7 machine as I do about recording music to tape. It's one thing if you can't afford a new computer, but it's another and utterly SELF DEFEATING REDICULOUS thing entirely to REFUSE to. 😆 And both Cakewalk & Bandlab services and updating/upgrading Win 7 to Win 10 is TOTALLY FREE OF COSTS & demons & goblins out to get you. But not necessary free of BOOGIE MEN & FEMALES searching relentlessly to maybe jam, collaborate, or maybe just DANCE to your music.😆 Well that is if it's good enough or.................. Even exists! 😉😆
