  1. Both the now cursor and playback meter responsiveness has been greatly optimized for the next update. Look for it in the next drop. Not only is it smoother, but it is adaptive and will efficiently self throttle to create more UI bandwidth when needed. Here is a size by side video comparison showing cbb vs Sonar just playing an empty project. Cbb is on the left. You should be able to see how much smoother Sonar's updates are. I recorded it at 60fps so hopefully it should be easy to see. I recommend downloading the video since it may be jittery over the google photos web viewer. 2. I've noticed companies that tried to go subscription-only (most notably Avid and Waves) went back to offering perpetual licenses as well as subscriptions. UA, PreSonus, and iZotope - who are all doing very well - offer subscriptions and also offer perpetual licenses. The reality is that subscriptions benefit some customers and perpetual licenses benefit others. Offering both increases the potential customer base. I would highly recommend that Cakewalk learn from the mistakes of others, they've already done the R&D

  3. The Eden is currently on sale for 49 € instead of 99 €. Applying this promo code reduces the price to 39 €. So, 60% off of list, not 60% off of the current sale price. Still a pretty good deal. I'm a bassist, and this is tempting, but I'm going to pass. I have a lot of bass amp sims and if I'm honest with myself, I don't need any more. Still, holding the line of my GAS for anything bass related is as difficult as holding in a Taco Bell f*rt in a crowded elevator. I made it this time. Whew.

  4. Ah, okay, got my answer: If you already have Sigmund (maybe like me you got it as a PB freeB, those were the days), check in your User Area at the D16 website. There should be a coupon there that will allow you to get v. 2 for €19. I've never gotten into programming the thing, but some of the factory patches are wonders for trippy sound design. I have some heavy hitters like MTurboDelay, Objeq Delay, and Sandman Pro, and Sigmund is right up there with them. I'll be dropping the 19 for the upgrade.

  6. D16 is free updates perpetually for minor releases though, whereas this is a major release and without WUP, Waves wouldn't even give you minor updates for free. D16 provides support indefinitely. Waves will not provide any support without active WUP. D16 can always be transferred and for free. Waves you can only transfer to someone else if you have active WUP. Not sure if they charge on top of that too. D16 can be used on multiple machines perpetually. Waves only provides 2 seats at most and you lose the second seat once WUP is inactive, so if you have a DAW and laptopsl for a mobile rig and don't want to constantly move a USB key around, or deactivate on one machine and reactivate on the other one all the time, then you need active WUP. I would rather free major releases too though from D16. Maybe even just the next version free and then paid for versions after that. Discounted updates would also be great and sounds fair to me. But when it comes to sucking, Waves and their WUP and archaic ideas cannot be outdone 🤣

  7. Hey Windows users - We have had some initial reports of Simple Stems compatibility issues on some windows machines. If you have downloaded the update and it does not run, then we are deeply sorry and working to have it fixed shortly. If you haven't updated yet, you might want to play it safe until you hear from me (should be fixed within a few days).

  8. How did we go from D16 to Waves? Upgrade prices from D16 are very nice.

  9. Got a nit pick here: Something that looks like an X in the top right corner of an object has a long-standing meaning in Windows. But this is in fact the control to vertically expand or contract the module. I guarantee that'll be confusing to new users.

  10. That was a preexisting issue that was also in CbB. In the next update as shown in my video this should be improved a lot.

  14. $19 plus VAT if applicable. https://www.kuassa.com/products/efektor-moon-muffin-fuzz/ If you own Amplifikation 360, the plugin is free. You might have to wait for some hours to see it in your account. I have to say: Getting 360 was money well spent. The plugins are very good, can be used in the 360 GUI as modules or stand-alone, and new ones come in regularly. Kuassa is a very underrated company IMO.

  17. I'm involved in graphic design. It's important to remember that graphics, like music, is a fashion industry. Pastels have made a comeback in recent years, especially for websites. They're traditionally associated with sophistication, but one of the main reasons for using pastels is they retain impact because of the difference you can create between the original hue and the whiter/paler variations that create pastels. Technically, pastels start with a base color and add white. So, designers can determine how much contrast they want between elements by how much white they add. Fashion-wise, this is also a natural progression from the "dark look" that was prevalent for so many years and added black to base colors. I don't know Cakewalk's motivation for going in a pastel direction, but it looks to me like they're aiming for 2023/2024 more than women and children.

  19. Why are people so dang worried about the cost? Please everyone, the day is coming soon when you will know the answer so why waist brain cells even thinking about it. Cakewalk is still free, Use it. If you want to try Sonar create a Bandlab Backstage pass and use it. The Backstage pass for Bandlab membership is just like all the other Music delivery sites. You pay monthly or annually they are all like that. I think I paid $30 for an annual Membership to Distrokid.

  20. To be fair, when Cakewalk introduced the "membership" label, it was because the software was rent-to-own. Even though you paid monthly, eventually you would own Sonar outright. At the time, "subscription" meant you paid or the program went belly up. I think subscription still has the same meaning today. They wanted to differentiate between the two.

  24. https://pasttofuturereverbs.gumroad.com/l/rnpdh MONEY BASS For Kontakt! One of the most iconic bass guitar riff and bass sound ever! Does this bass sound familiar to you? No wonder, because almost everyone knows this song and its formative bass sound. Check out the demo: The real strength of this Bass lies in its playability. No machine-gun effect thanks to Multi-Round-Robin, 30 alternative samples per key! This is how the bass cuts through your mix in a perfectly clean and authentic way.

  25. Originally I asked: "So is the Sonar “price of admission” the BandLab membership? If so I’ll convert my “3 days free” to a yearly membership." What I meant to imply there was; I am perfectly happy paying $150 a year for Sonar. What I should have asked is: Will one option to using Sonar be the BandLab Backstage Pass? Noel answered this: "If you want to start using Sonar right away, backstage pass (which includes both Sonar, Next as well as other bandlab perks) is the only available option right now. There are plans for other purchase options but there isn't a known timeline just yet." Admittedly he does affirm or imply that Backstage Pass will ALWAYS include the use of Sonar or Next pwal said: "don't forget it's up to bandlab, not the bakers" to which msmcleod answered: "Thanks for pointing that out... I think people forget this!" Unless I "missed" something that's it in a nutshell. Hillmy is correct in that nowhere on CakeWalk.com is it stated Backstage Pass will always include the use of Sonar and Next. While I lean toward agreeing with Will: "Those who purchace a Backstage Pass gets an Early Access membership. This means that if you own a Backstage Pass you have the privilledge of getting the full DAW including new releases and updates before the general Public!" Only time will tell... Larry Jones has the "best" answer: "Unless you are an executive at Bandlab, you don't know this for a fact, and you are just speculating." so Bristol should have the last word... t

  26. Well, to be truly realistic, it will have to be said that if it is no longer free, a large percentage of its users will choose another DAW that is, even if it is a lite version of the competition

  27. People complain about WUP but D16 wants upgrades for every product I've purchased from them. And when the products go on sale, the upgrade pricing doesn't. I guess if I'd bought them back in 2016 it might seem fine but since I've only picked them up gradually since 2020 it seems a bit rich. Just my 10c.

  28. Upgrade is available in the account for 19 bucks. Quite fair I would say.

  29. Looks like it can be had for €59 at D16's own site. I'm an enthusiastic user of Sigmund; it would be nice to get an upgrade price.

  34. Yep, I've owned a number of originals (and still have a few boutique versions - which I like better - such as options to remove the tone stack which makes them much more open sounding). And the plugins I've tried lack the harmonic complexity of the real deal. TONEX is at least very close to the tonal range.

  40. What is actually very cool is you can flip between Cakewalk and Sonar seamlessly. or even have them both open. I’ve totally gotten over the theme issues by applying the colours to the track strips. I’ve gotten used to the icons etc. It’s just like anything else that changes. After a given amount of time it becomes normal. The only thing I can’t get used to is a dark PRV!!

  42. I apologize if you think I was taking things as "a big fricken joke" I guess I should have just used text instead, but I assure you I wasn't making fun or any such, I was serious about the folly of placing such feelings/emotions in an internet forum and it's inhabitants, least of all the Cakewalk Forums and it's inhabitants, I've been around in the old forum days and am familiar with those 2 inhabitants you mention. So again my apologies 🤝 As for your ailments, I to have multiple ailments and have spoken multiple times on these very forums regarding the heavy pain medication I must take to be able to function even remotely pain free, and the side affects that come with that like involuntary movements of things like arms, hands and digits, which as primarily a guitarist make things challenging to say the least, not to mention simple things like typing on the keyboard or phone or any other thing that requires any amount of accuracy with your fingers. So I certainly wouldn't make fun or joke of your conditions. You can check back through my post history to find that I have indeed spoke of these things. So they have come to visit me, maybe not in the same manner, but visit none the less. Anyway, again my apologies good sir. 🤝
