  2. https://www.synthmaster.com/synthmasterplayer.aspx?referrer=facebook SynthMaster Player is a simplified version of SynthMaster with limited editing capabilities. It is targeted towards users who prefer to use presets rather than designing their own sounds. It comes with 1800 factory presets. Users can edit the 12 easy parameters or the bypass states of layer/global effects assigned for each preset by the sound designer.

  6. FYI, I had an existing Groove 3 plan that expires in April of 2020. I wrote Groove 3's customer service and asked if I should wait until my plan expires or put the code in now. And the guy said that the iZotope code will expire at a certain point, so it's best to put it in now. When I did, my subscription changed from expiring in April 2020 to April 2021. So if you are holding onto your Groove 3 code for a rainy day, you should know that it won't last forever. If you want to know how long it's good, you should check with Groove 3. They have really fast customer service. I was waiting for the bugs to get out of the system on MPS 3 before upgrading. It was a breeze to do. Everything went quickly. Just followed the email. Used the iZotope Portal and made sure to activate the reverbs in iLok. And because of all of you, I got the free upgrade! 😎 I never would have thought to ask about a grace period because I bought in early August. And wow, those reverbs are outstanding. So thank you guys! And thank you iZotope!

  7. InSessionAudio Riff Generation – Outside In Edition (First Impressions by ZincT) I spent about an hour yesterday using Riff Generation – Outside In Edition, reviewing all of the “video manual” and also skimmed the 73 page PDF manual. It’s a nice touch that you can access all of these from a shortcut in the Kontakt UI. I should make clear that these are my initial impressions and I don’t claim to be an expert user of RG yet although I hope that will be the case when I have used it more. If you want a summary skip to last paragraph. Suffice it to say that this is definitely a level above the average auto riff creation tool. It is clear that a lot of thought, time and effort has gone into its creation and it is also very stable. The Generate button affects all generatable parameters unless they are locked and there are also separate generate buttons for rhythm, level, pitch, time, sound as well as more granular generation buttons for glide, stutter, delay burst, verb burst, velocity, volume and pan. Sounds default to being locked for presets to avoid sound design accidents but these can be also be unlocked. The matrix display shows the pitch, which sound is selected for each step (colour coded) and whether glide, stutter, delay burst, verb burst is enabled per step. It comes with a lot of great sounding samples which can occupy up to 5 sound locations (A to E). The original version of Riff Generation contained mainly synth sounds but this “Outside In” edition contains mostly external samples of acoustic instruments which have clearly been created to work well together. The samples include Vibraphone, Xylophone, Balafon, Tongue Drum, Nylon Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Electic Guitar, Pedal Steel, 12 String Guitar, Electric Bass, Hammered Dulcimer, ‘Cello, Chimes, Crystal, Bells, Glock, Music Box, Kalimba, Piano, E Piano and the list goes on as well as a few choice synth sounds. I understand that it is possible, with some effort, to use your own samples within Riff Generation but I haven’t tried this myself (see https://youtu.be/fg8NjeWFCiw ) There are over 225 presets which are sorted by tempo (bpm 70 to 139). These presets contain patterns with specific sounds/effects and other parameters which the author has created and can be loaded and used as is or as a starting point for your own patterns by hitting the “generate” button. The Effects section contains Filter, Mod, Lo-fi/Distortion, Compression, EQ, Delay and Reverb. There are also quite a few Generation Templates which can act as a good starting point for your own patterns. Unlike the presets these do not contain any patterns so once loaded you must then press the Generate button to create a pattern. I have now reviewed all of these and saved my own versions to act as starting points for future songs. After loading a preset or template you can then select the Key and Scale that you want to work with which are applied to the loaded pattern. For example, you could start with a pattern generated in C Ionian if then then switch to C Aeolian (even while playing) and any major 3rds that occur will be changed to minor 3rds. You can only see 32 steps in a pattern on the screen at a time but a pattern can be up to 256 steps stored in up to 8 pages and you can easily switch between them using the 1-8 buttons in the UI. In addition, patterns can be stored in up to 8 scenes which can be switched using the UI or keyswitches. This could be used, for example, to create separate intro, verse, bridge and chorus sections. Pattern playing is triggered by MIDI input from your controller and can be latched. There is also switchable MIDI input quantize. There is a MIDI drag and drop button which allows generated patterns to be easily copied into your DAW and this worked fine with Cakewalk by Bandlab. Alternatively, you can re-route the MIDI created by Riff Generation using the Kontakt engine option to send script generated MIDI notes to the outside world so that it plays your own virtual instrument. In summary, this is a useful tool to generate patterns and spark your imagination to act as a starting point for song creation or even to add something extra to an existing song. The main limitation I can see is that each step can only trigger one sound so the patterns tend to sound like complex arpeggios. This is where sound design/choice becomes key to creating a useful pattern and the presets/templates provide a lot of excellent examples. However, multiple patterns could be stacked in your DAW to make chords. As for bass lines some of the presets/templates are aimed more towards bass patterns. It is entirely feasible that an entire song could be crafted using RG. In fact that sounds like a challenge to add to my to-do list!

  8. The fact that Cakewalk is even still among us is an amazingly kewl and welcomed thing, but add on top of that 1) it is free and 2) they are REALLY pouring it on with continued development of features and maintenance. AMAZING! Bob Bone

  14. That's so true....most amp sims do a lot of metal. Although I like metal, it doesn't show the full range of what the sims can do (which is what I'd really like to see/hear). Another thing I'd like to see in these vids is what audio interface/DI they're using and/or anything else in the signal path before using the amp sim. Most reviews rarely show that. Anyway, looking forward to more of your vids.

I noticed it reacts well to eqs. , and when gainstaged well , never gets arshes and in my tests it even sounded better than neural dsp witch is the reference since few releases ... Their ampeg sounds exellent also , pretty surprised how much caracter it has !! I really think this suite is dope .

  20. He make me LOL saying about why 10 not 8, he was able to see how students instantly get better workflow... Well how about 12 instead of 10? Not even better workflow? Or maybe 14? Maybe with 8 faders price would be lower and 2x8 is 16 what is even more than 10 and so on... It seems to be cool product but I would appreciate more this introduction if explanation for some design decision would be truthful and serious... In fact together with console 1 in one shared case it looks really cool and useful.

  23. @arlen2133, do any of us "need" most of what we want? No but I already bought it for $8.39 US before you tried to dissuade me! For me it is a tool I can use to learn how to use a non general midi standard multi-timbrel VSTi. That's my justification and I'm gonna' stick with it. I'm not looking forward to Black Friday. There is going to be too many "I wants" and not enough money. I have the same problem looking at food menus. That's why I love buffet restaurants! 🙌

  26. Actually we haven't been working on anything lately. I think Bapu & Daryl have been doing some solo or other colab stuff. I've also been busy working on a solo project (taking forever), but if it's half way decent, may post it in the songs forum. Have you posted anything in there?

  27. Like most of you, I was heartbroken when I heard Sonar had gone down. I have a 20 year relationship with that company and software. I absolutely loved it. I am delighted to be using Bandlab Cakewalk and to see that it still is being updated for free. I am working on several albums and I am most comfortable with Cakewalk, but I also use Pro Tools. In a perfect world, I wouldn't need Pro Tools. Keep up the great work Bandlab!

  37. John I always listen carefully to your songs because I like how you do the accompaniments - esp the piano and bass. Nice interaction there with the vocal, filling in at the right times. Like you I write music for the fun of it. Guess you could call it a hobby but it seems more than that.

  38. The best DAW is/are the one(s) you're using at the moment. Unless someone voting has tried ALL the DAWs in the list and done a major compare and contrast, any results are ill-informed at best. What's more, it all depends on what you want the DAW to do. Some DAWs are better for mixing. Some for songwriting. Some for loops. Etc. etc. etc. I think most popularity contests are about clicks to improve SEO for the site sponsoring the "poll." Sorry to sound like I'm in a "kids get off my lawn" mode, but polls like this are meaningless. That said - go ahead and vote for Cakewalk!!! It deserves credit for making it through some very trying times. Personally, I'm not happy about being kicked to the curb, but that's in the past...and for me, doesn't detract from the program, Noel's dedication, Meng's foresight, or the wonderful community that has coalesced around it.
