  2. Have to agree with Larry on this. I would suggest getting any LABS you want soon. Just in case. And I'm afraid that Pianobook may also be a victim as well. I was in Pianobook from the start. And made a demo every month for them. However it has stagnated this last year also. And despite promises about new faces and plans. Nothing has happened. There have been long gaps between uploads of new instruments. What has been posted has been somewhat limited compared to previous releases (IMO). if you look at the demos of the month which used to be refreshed every month. They are currently showing ones from June last year (2023). Spitfire is obviously paying for hosting etc. And I'm unsure they have the will or pockets to keep paying for all the freebies. And from a business standpoint it may no longer be viable for them. And it was after all a CH project. And they may want to move on. I hope I'm wrong. But it has gone on too long now to see any other route.

  3. Orange Tree Samples' founder, Greg Schlaepfer, just launched a new website, an online community for freely sharing presets for soft synths, plugins and sample libraries. It now has Greg's own presets and banks for Orange Tree Sample libraries and various soft synths and plugins. While the site currently has a modest collection of Greg's personal presets / banks, from experience, like his sample libraries, his presets are superb, and consequently, very much worth downloading. This is my cut and paste from the site's most popular presets list (it's not comprehensive, just what I found when creating this post): Soft Synths / Plugins XLN Audio XO Spectrasonics Omisphere 2 XLN Addictive Drums 2 Orange Tree Samples Evolution Libraries Orange Tree Samples Evolution Texas Twang Orange Tree Samples Evolution Hollowbody Blues Orange Tree Samples Evolution Infinity Orange Tree Samples Evolution Modern Nylon Orange Tree Samples Evolution Rock Standard Orange Tree Samples Evolution Songwriter Orange Tree Samples Evolution Stratosphere Orange Tree Samples Evolution Strawberry Orange Tree Samples Evolution Texas Twang While I'm friends with Greg, I actually only found out about Preset Galaxy from a post from Orange Tree Samples Facebook page and texted Greg to ask about it. I have his XLN Addictive Drums 2 presets and use them regularly, but I didn't have any of his Evolution presets beyond the factory presets, so I'm pretty excited to get these (I plan on downloading and installing them after this post), as I use Evolution libraries in nearly every project. Visiting this site, I immediately thought of how XLN used to have a community for freely sharing presets for AD2 (I'm pretty sure that Toontrack did too), as did NI for KONTAKT (for sharing libraries and presets), but both shut them down. Consequently, finding free presets for XLN plugins or KONTAKT libraries is just about impossible these days (I am only aware of some developers that SELL presets) and finding high quality free presets has always been a challenge, so this site is especially great to see . I've long been addicted to Pianobook for picking up free KONTAKT libraries and downloading free Vital presets at the developer's site and PresetShare.com and would love to see PresetGalaxy.com become a vibrant community of talented people freely sharing presets. It also helps me feed my unstoppable appetite for new sounds (and GAS) without spending cash. https://www.presetgalaxy.com/

  12. Anaglyph is part of an ongoing research effort into the perceptual and technical capabilities of binaural rendering. This audio plugin was designed both to support ongoing research efforts as well as to make accessible the fruits of this research to audio engineers working in DAW environments. Amongst its features, Anaglyph includes a personalizable morphological ITD model, near-field ILD corrections and HRTF parallax selection, a localisation enhancer, an externalisation booster, and multiple HRTF support via the SOFA file format. http://anaglyph.dalembert.upmc.fr/

  16. Christian was the one who was making the "Labs" releases for Spitfire, and he is no longer with the Company, and has started his own, The Crow Hill Company. There hasn't been a Labs release in about 8 months, so I think that it's pretty safe to say that Spitfire Labs is DEAD

  20. The Wurly (original trademark spelling) AKA the Wurli AKA the Wurlitzer electric piano is coming back to life in 2024 according to Music Radar. I am surprised that Music Radar's writer couldn't find out if Gibson still owns Wurlitzer or not, especially if they found this news out at NAMM. In any event, it's pretty exciting news to find your favorite electric piano is soon going back into production. EDIT: If you read my later posts, you'll find that I'm longer confident that the party behind this Wurlitzer website is legitimate. https://www.musicradar.com/news/new-wurlitzer-electric-piano?utm_content=keyboard&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=socialflow&fbclid=IwAR06lTzR7GJExVBLHWY9KTLYd76JSeiZPxI-cAKVUapIP6pS4PnrMc4GYlY

  21. At some point any company that generates free content has to justify the cost of generating / maintaining that content to its stakeholders. Also I would imagine that over time it gets harder to generate new quality content that doesn't compete with paid product - what's next another piano? hobos singing a cappella in the rain? another acoustic instrument / synth amalgam, bug squashing percussion (varied by shoe or boot types), or ? For Christian's new company free libraries bring much needed attention maybe not so much for Spitfire... I hope that Spitfire at some point revives product generation of Labs stuff. But I must admit that while I always checkout and collect their offerings I don't use it (at least not yet) - but it does keep Spitfire on my radar and maybe that kind of interest is enough for them to keep it going.

  22. Yeah, I was just about to mention how Pianobook has basically become stagnant since Christian's departure. I don't think it necessarily means these programs are dead, Spitfire may just be struggling to find the right person to manage them. Clearly, Christian was the champion of both Pianobook and Labs and perhaps his business partner wasn't completely sold on them (as neither produces a net profit, some business people can too easily write such ventures off). But I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that this efforts are dead, it may be a struggle to finding someone with the right talents to manage them. I'd bet that Henson put a lot of effort into both and his skills as an entrepreneur and multitasker aren't easily replaced. Christian did introduce a new manager at Pianobook prior to his departure. Does anyone know if she's still actively managing Pianobook? I know that there haven't been any really stellar releases on the site in a long time (just my opinion) so you can attribute that to the community, but a mature community doesn't manage itself. I think Christian's energy and involvement inspired much of the creative activity at Pianobook and when he left, and the way he left, had a major impact (reflected in less enthusiasm and activity) for the Pianobook community-- regardless of one's opinion on the circumstances around Christian's departure.

  23. And I now realise how it must have happened. I was fooling around with a control surface called "Touch DAW" on my mobile phone, when I noticed that faders 1 to 8 were all being set to -8.7db whenever my head was turned away. That must have also been done to the left channel on the hardware output. -8.7db!

  24. LABS used to occupy gigabytes of drive space, although I never used them. Not once since they came out. In fact, they were so uninspiring, I never felt like shopping for Spitfire libraries. I hear good things about Albion, but then again, symphonic music is way above my league.

  29. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Musical Labels are the bricks that can trap the unsuspecting musician in a prison of their own making. The musician can't get out and the good stuff can't get in. Ask somebody who's authentic country and they may say Garth Brooks . Someone else may say Marty Robbins , Dolly Parton , or Hank Williams. Who's Right ? As far as the bands you mentioned, in all my years of playing the guitar and listening to music I have never even heard the music of any of the bands you mentioned , not even one . As far as I'm concerned Jimi Hendrix , Deep Purple and Pink Floyd were the players that served as my first introductions to space rock way back in the day . What I played was my personal interpretation of what Space Rock means too me 😉 I take offense at the fact that you tried to put a label on what I played and call it noodling ... Anytime you feel like educating me and filling in the gaps in my playing and musical genre choices I will be all ears provided you can show me the way with you playing it first on your instrument Kenny

  30. https://payhip.com/deepsounds Deepsounds has announced the release of a TouchOSC-based patch editor, generator and manager for the Circuit Tracks and OG Circuit grooveboxes from Novation. I love the Novation Circuit, but I was never completely satisfied with Components. For one thing, I wanted an editor that would also run on the IPad, since I usually have one connected to the Circuit for additional synths anyway. Also, I really like to edit basic patch parameters with a Novation LaunchControl and wanted that to be more tightly integrated into the editor. Because I couldn’t find anything suitable (and for the fun of it 😄 ), I decided to develop a new editor based on touchOSC. Hope you like it! NC Editor features Access all patch parameters of the Circuit synth engines (>300). Support of both Circuit Tracks and OG Circuit. Optimized design for iPad (also runs on Windows, macOS, android). Sophisticated patch generator lets you create complex, creative and extraordinary sounds in no time. Patch manager to save, load, copy and paste patches on your circuit even across packs (tracks only). Integration of hardware controller Novation LaunchControl XL and Akai MidiMix. Comprehensive PDF manual for installation. The editor is available to purchase for 5.50 EUR. A free demo with limited functionality is available to try NC Editor.

  35. (WARNING; Extreme facetiousness and sarcasm is both expressed and implied) I’m a neophyte at this stuff and I want instantaneous satisfaction. I don’t want to read any manuals or use a detailed search of any forum or YT videos for a direct and detailed answer to my particular question because that takes too much time and effort. I don’t have any music theory or computer operation experience either, and don’t want any. I don’t want to develop any common sense or troubleshooting skills… life is too short for that. I just want this DAW to understand what I’m thinking and execute my wishes post haste without my input. I don’t want to know about or comprehend anything about latency or signal flow, because my computer should be smart enough and fast enough to just do it now, without any interaction on my part. I should be able to enter the Daytona 200 with my Yugo that has no tires and still win the race. And my DAW should have a command available that can brew, pour, and deliver a cup of coffee to my desk… like yesterday. Other DAWs can do that, why can’t this one? Never mind that there are many folks out there that have spent decades learning and honing a skill set that covers all of these things. Their experienced and insightful answers don’t count. I don’t have the time or patience for that.

  38. Do you happen to have any Corsair fan controls installed? The only time I have seen this occur is from their drivers (and on a desktop), but the situation was rather unique. They actually drilled into the UEFI and adjusted clock settings, so had created a cycle of massive CPU heat generation due to extreme O/C inserts followed by "jet engine" cooling cycles. I had to go into services to manually disable that (was Corsair LINK 4 on this machine), then into UEFI to re-clock the machine. Barring that very specific, oddball situation, be sure to always run a laptop on a hard surface with the vent ports totally free from obstruction. Fans kicking in like that are triggered by a temperature threshold, so a utility to monitor all temps is warranted until you can find out what the fan is triggering on and what is causing the heat. Moo0 System Monitor is a lightly-weight utility that may help; the "portable" version is specifically handy because you do not need to install anything and can carry it around with you on a thumb drive to use when needed.

  41. What you are seeing is called the Inspector view ('I' key)... it only shows the active track that you have selected in the Track View. You will need to add the Console View tab (Alt+2) or <Views><Console View> to the Multidock at the bottom of the screen (or float it to the main or another monitor) using 'D' key. Also see <Help><Keyboard Shortcuts> for more details.

  42. I like the Ugritone drums, but I recently purchased their TRVE Cab bundle (an impulse response player and a collection of IRs). It does not work properly (weird beeping sounds and sliders that are too sluggish to use), so I emailed them about the problems. I didn't hear back from them, so I emailed them again. And again. And again. Yes - 4 times (and over the course of several weeks), and yet no response from their support email. Their website says they offer a "no-questions-asked" refund policy within 6 months of a purchase. In my emails to them I even said a store credit would be fine if they can't fix the problems. Does anyone know how to reach them other than their support email? I don't want to write a bad review, but maybe that's the only way to get their attention?

  44. So, this means the Essential -> Platinum upgrade price is normally $100? I couldn’t find that info the other day when I looked. EDIT: guess the upgrade is $199 normally so $299 for Essential and $99 to upgrade after discount correct? Checked at JRRShop just now and you can still get Essential for $266.11 with code FORUM which would mean Platinum for $366.11 total after upgrading. I did not check it but the discount applied.

  48. That's right. It's great that they're including WASAPI support and it works reasonably well, but I think it would be wrong to suggest to new users that they will be able to progress into the future of audio production without equipment that can perform at a higher level than the sound card in the computer can perform at. Which is why, I think, an ASIO sound device is still the recommended minimum. But even though I am 66 now, and somewhat dinosaurian, I can see a future where it won't be a requirement. I probably won't be there. 😁
