  13. Mark - Thank you so much. I cant tell you how grateful I am for your advice (and everyone else as well - Thank you all!!) Renaming the file did it. I was able to restart and reactivate Cakewalk. And I got the fader port set up correctly and so far it works well. I was pretty down at the thought of loosing everything and not knowing if any of the fixes would work. I could never have come to that solution on my own. I'm so grateful to this community who gives up there time to help others. You are all so appreciated. Thank you all again for your assistance.

  15. Create an automation, one each for each parameter. Then map a CC to these automation using remote control. I just tried it with 3 instances of Sonitus Reverb and this worked I created an automation lane for the Room Size of each Sonitus Reverb Via Remote Control, I assigned CC72 to the each automation lanes of all 3 instances of Sonitus Reverb. Moved the slider on the MIDI controller. The Room size of all 3 instances of Sonitus Reverb adjusted simultaneously.

  17. Personally IMHO all of these type of plugins/processors are gimmicks but as they say YMMV. In the studio we had to deal with a variety of leakage types... Console module crosstalk - electronic bleed from other modules or just console electronics. Tape track bleed through - adjacent tracks bleeding through (more of an issue on 24 track tape and its physically smaller track area). Tape print through - one layer of tape imprinting on another. You would always have some pre or post print through - which was louder depended on how the tape was stored. One of the most famous examples is the vocal pre-delay on Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love. Headphone bleed - cue mix getting picked up by vocal or acoustic microphones. While most of the time you could ignore this stuff sometimes it was an issue and it could be a real pain in rear ('Where the hell is that guitar coming from? All the guitar tracks are muted!"). Except for 'Whole Lotta Love' where they liked the effect of the vocal pre-delay due to tape print through I don't recall ever hearing a producer say 'Thank god for that (name your instrument) bleeding through!'. I do recall a couple of occasions of spending time to manually erase all non-used tracks or sections between parts to eliminate bleed through as much as possible; an easy thing to do on a DAW, but sometimes challenging to do on a tapedeck. I am waiting for someone to create the plugin that let's you enjoy the magic of recreating all 4 types for bleed through in your DAW so that you (and the end listener) can realistically enjoy the full experience of yesteryear's recording studios.

  18. That is totally dependent on the VSTi plugin, it has nothing to do with the DAW. Some plugins can be resaved in their initial state with an instrument/preset initiated, but a smarter way to do it in CbB is to save an instrument track with a VSTi loaded into it as a track template and load it instead.

  23. Exactly!!! When I tried to see what it was to be normal and have a real job, I was a Cable TV Field Engineer (a technician with an engineer title to impress the customers). I flew out Monday and, worked Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Friday was a flight day, but I could take the red-eye out Thursday night. That allowed me to play weekend gigs with other part-time musicians. But the caliber of the other musicians wasn't what I was used to. I don't mean this as a negative, they had real jobs and families competing with their music time. I don't think I was playing at the top of my game then, either. It didn't have the same spark. I'd much rather play with musicians who are better than me, than I would to play with ones who are not as good. In my current duo, Mrs. Notes is a far better singer than I am. She is also a solid rhythm guitarist and synth player. Me? I play better sax/wind-synth and lead guitar than her (she doesn't play them), and I make the backing tracks. We inspire each other. Playing music is the most fun we can have with our clothes on. Insights and incites by Notes ♫

  24. There were actually quite a few posts in the old forums of people looking at SONAR and asking if the bundled software was locked to it. Some admitted quite frankly that they had no interest in SONAR, but wanted the included plugins specifically for another DAW. Another item to consider with bundling is that such would most likely also increase the price of the bundle. For newbies, that can be enticing, but for folks who already own them they could be paying more for a DAW for things they already own. The MAGIX Samplitude Suite is a good example of this, for a first-time buyer that can be an awesome deal, but some of the included apps in the last go-round were the same as when I got X5 (and you don't get an "extra" copy that can be resold with that). MAGIX does have the advantage that they include the latest version of SpectraLayers Pro (and older versions of their other software), but $199 each year (when it is on sale), is a bit excessive for a DAW upgrade. It would be more effective to split out the DAW from other apps, but there is definitely an interest for folks to pick up things that vanished when SONAR became CbB (Z3TA+2, Dimension Pro, et al.), and nothing precludes having 3rd-party deals for current SONAR owners rather than them being bundled. Even iZotope gets comments in this regard a lot. So many of their bundles overlap that people comment things like, "Only two applications are upgrades for me, the rest I already own."

  28. Note, installing this has the same issue we had before with BBC Orchestra piano. We end up with a folder with a VST3 extension - this might can contuse Cakewalk’s VST3 scanning component (it did on mine). Simple solution is to remove the VST3 extension from Abbey Road folder in the %CommonProgramFiles%\VST3 folder and then rescan. I am hoping that, by now, you all have your windows explorer to view all extensions for unknown file types.

  29. There's no change there. Demo mode has the same behavior in the current build. There's a new tool that will handle offline activation for CbB, but its in beta currently. Signing back into BandLab from the help menu will renew the auth license.

  30. They will because kids now have grown up with Google and Youtube and social media, they can easily find free stuff . Trust me I have 3 kids aged 15 -22 . This stuff comes naturally to them. When I started out the only way you found out stuff was by reading Sound On Sound magazine as there was no internet. There is more funtionality in the Pro-Channel alone than I had in my first studio, plus there are hundreds of free plugins literally. I don't think we need to bloat the installer with even more. Nope. When I started out I had hardware synths and FX units and Cakewalk was just a sequencer which I slaved to my ADAT. Then I got Waves once I got a PC that was fast enough to handle audio plugins, so I never really used anything bundled as it was not very good compared to other stuff I had at the time. Z3ta was pretty good when it came out but other than that I've not really used any bundled stuff.

  33. <rant> Create a “junction” and get this beast off the C drive. Totally unnecessary for it and TRackS et al to “hog” so much space. Lazy design (typical) on the part of IKM. The installer could just as easily ask where you want this data to reside (on your sample drive; duh!) Drives me nuts! </rant> t The junction looks like this: (bear in mind that my sample drive is "V" and named VSTi. the juction is created in the Command Prompt and must be run as "administrator" do your due diligence and learn how to do it properly. IF I can do it, so can you!) mklink /j "C:\Program Files\IK Multimedia\ToneX" "V:\VSTi\IK Multimedia\ToneX" ToneX 4.18gb Amp5 2.91 gb T-RackS 5 1.89gb Amp 4 1gb

  42. LOL the music industry was corrupt looong before 1994. The payola scandals with labels paying for their records to get hyped & played, record companies & managers ripping off artists, etc. The scope changed i.e. fewer people controlling larger resources (getting their fingers into more pies) but the rots always been there. Interesting video though.

  44. Agree 100% Agree here also. I would add that the level of musician your playing with has an effect on your playing. I was playing in a blues band. Singer was pretty good. And I thought that the drummer, bass player, and sax player were ok too. But one night the singer (who also was the rhythm guitar player) let a friend of his talk him into letting a guy come up and play a song. So the singer agreed and gave him his guitar. He told us a blues vamp in G, and then started to play and intro that shocked us all!! This guy was like you say, a monster!!! But what surprised the hell out of me was the level that the rest of the band jumped up too!! I mean we were killing it!! After the gig my wife told me that when the guy got up there and played, we were like another band. She asked "Why don't ya'll play like that all the time?!!" And I tried to explain... but it was no use. The level of musicians you play with has an effect on you. You were playing better because you knew that "great" guy was there. And he played better because he knew a "passionate" player was there!! And that's the interaction, connections that we have with each other that play/perform. Nothing like it in the world.
