  2. Thanks for your support, guys. It is great that we are able to offer Cakewalk free to our users. As long as we are able to do so, enjoy it....

  3. I updated the FX, PDC and 2x buttons in my themes Lead, Gran Vista and Carbon in November last year in such a way. The picture below shows the first two buttons in themes Gran Vista and Lead respectively before and after the change. The 2x button was changed in a similar way (not shown in this image). As for the default PDC button being confusing, Noel actually agreed that it was in a recent post.

  6. I rarely buy games anymore but I'm still getting the free games. Epic has donated some good stuff over the years. I hope I'll live to be bicentennial, because that's how long it's going to take (at least) to go through my backlog of games.

  7. A short piece with piano and strings. Any thoughts on how to tame some of the piano transients? Some of them are very sharp, and when I listen on my phone I find it overloads the little speaker. I don't want to squash the dynamic range, but I find I can't add anymore than a dB or so of compression with hating the sound of it. Update - it took me a while to get back to this, since I was traveling last week. I think a combination of narrow eq's to target some of the piano resonances along with some active eq using the really cool (and free!) TDR Nova has helped a lot.

  9. I will preface this by saying I never updated past v4 so I am far from an expert. With that said, the main appeal is the sound, which I am still not convinced is as magical as people make it out to be. It sounds good, but for me that comes down to a combination of the consistency of having same channel strip and saturation on every channel. I have templates in studio one and Cakewalk( since this is a cakewalk forum) that have simple console style channel strips on every channel and buss. Harrison even sells channel strip plug now. I have tried the bounce stems to mix in mixbus approach and the time never seemed worth it. If Mixbus did AAF import natively it would be an improvement, but as it stands, the process now involves having to delete silence on every track I import. I will occasionally mix a project I received as stems on Mixbus, but the colorization I get in Mixbus is just not worth the process to move from another DAW. Part if the results one gets when using Mixbus are a result of following a simplified workflow. This workflow can be achieved in any DAW after a one time template setup. My newest ST1 template is Amex 9099 on all channels and busses with a Softube Drawmer 1973 on my mixbus. I have Echo Boy on 2 effects sends ( one ping pong and one set to 1/8s). I have three verb sends( little plate, supermassive and stock). I also have a sort of sizzle buss with new fangled audio saturate and a high pass filter and boost( I use very little since Amek has saturation). No, it doesn't sound like Harrison , but the simplified workflow gives me something similar to what my main purpose if using Mixbus would be. I will concede that there are setups that would come closer to that sound( perhaps Harrison's strip and even that has an asterix), but my way too long point is I struggle to find scenarios that make DAW jumping a better use of time than creating your own simplified workflow where your work is already living. Here is an interesting take on Harrison's marketing:

  15. Couple of things 1. The tooltip for the FX button states the same message regardless of the state. I think it should say " Enable All Audio Effects " when it's in bypass and " Bypass All Audio Effect" when it's enabled. 2. I also think the colour scheme is backwards. When the FX are engaged its' grey - when they are bypassed it's blue which doesn't make sense to me. I would rather have a positive indication that my FX are engaged and have it go grey when they are in bypass which would follow the logic of the rest of the toolbar. Now I understand where you're coming from as I'm sure the idea is that this an FX "Bypass" button so it lights up when in bypass - However it isn't labelled as a bypass button either ! So to my mind it's either labelled wrong or it's backwards. An easy fix technically but a more difficult thing as everyone is used to it being backwards. 😃 You could have another colour for when it's engaged, say green and keep the blue for disengaged , there is a precedent for having green as it's used for the solo button. Thoughts ?

  23. I downloaded and tried it so you won't have to, fully realizing that this developer is probably the most loathed developer I've seen at this forum, VI Control and KVR, regularly accused of pirating other developers' libraries and producing low quality libraries. As bitflipper shared above, this is NOT a sophisticated, detailed sample library; it's one patch that reminds me of a patch you might find on a 1990s synth workstation or a SoundFont library. Is it worth 7.61 GB for a single patch? I'd say absolutely not. There are much better xylophone freebies out there. I'll start with sharing this free wooden xylophone from Splash Sounds. It includes both mallets and sticks patches. https://www.splashsound.org/woodenxylophone.html

  24. 100% ... I was happy as a pig in s*1t using away CW but circumstances with other APPLE band members arose which forced having to consider a cross platform app. Reaper in this case for us. The fact once could use that for a while gratis to test and then the buy in price was very manageable for all ($60 ) was a huge plus. It didnt clash with different band members individual financials. Was not a hard sell. If CW was cross platform THAT would have been it hands down

  25. We can consider reducing the minimum loop size below 8th notes. A single tick resolution is too low. A DAW needs to do a lot more setup for looping than an audio editor or sampler so looping tiny region on the timeline is not as simple as it might look. Please move threads like this out of the release thread because its more suited to the feature request section.

  26. Mark is referring to the Transpose MFX, not Process > Transpose; the MFX can fit notes to a scale as the OP requested.

  27. That is your opinion! 😉 There are also a couple of things in Reaper you cannot do in SO, 2nd there is quite a price difference and last but not least SO cannot match Reaper's startup/plugin scan performance. Also installation and authorization is quite painful compared to Reaper! Do you need more arguments? 😄

  29. The MIDI Transpose MFX will do that both in real time, and offline ( using right click on Clip -> Process Effect -> MIDI Effects -> Transpose ). To use it real time, just drag it into your MIDI FX bin.

  30. My thoughts... On number 1 , yes, that would definitely be better the way suggested. On number 2, I agree it's a bypass button so lit in bypass makes sense and think that any change to that would only confuse everyone but folks new to Cakewalk who learn that it's that way, I do however think that something such as an 'X' or diagonal line (as @Lord Tim said) over the text like on the 'Clear all Automation Write Enables' button could be a helpful hint for newcomers, those who have fear of the manual (lol) and those who forget these things sometimes, I know I've forgotten about things like this before!

  31. I liked Oblivion. But I got stuck in the Main Quest trying to shut down that damn Oblivion Gate in "Breaking the Siege of Kvatch". Never could figure that out and gave up, LOL! https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Breaking_the_Siege_of_Kvatch Inside the gate: Enter the Kvatch Gate to a hellish world filled by lava. At this point, two or three Scamps (or other level-dependent creatures) will start attacking, but you will get some assistance from Ilend Vonius, one of the surviving guards, who went in before. He can be told to stay or leave the choice is entirely optional, at lower levels he will provide some help, but at higher levels (10+) he will die quite quickly. Start out by following the path west. The objective will be the large tower in the middle. Along the way several more level-dependent monsters will be encountered. Watch out for the red Harrada plants and other small flora on the ground as these are capable of attacking and hurting the Hero or Ilend, if they chose to bring him.

  32. That all said, I was lucky enough to grab a mug and a couple of shirts when they went up just after the Bandlab purchase and I know it's just a matter of time until I break the damn mug 🙄... it'd be great to see Cakewalk merch up online again, not even necessarily as an income generating source - that seems to be pretty well covered already - but just so as people who use CbB can have something they can own related to their DAW of choice. And to replace broken mugs.

  33. Cakewalk by Bandlab (CbB) is at the very least the equal of any DAW out there. I have numerous paid for DAWs like Cubase Pro 12, Studio One Producer 5; and others where I no longer keep paying for updates. Cakewalk easily competes with them all in terms of features and reliability and continuing development to expand the feature set while ensuring stability and eking out every bit of performance that the latest Windows and modern hardware can provide. All the while it is even still usable (though not supported officially) on win 7. CbBs free status is thanks to the generosity and alternate business model of a Singaporean business man who has vast interests in musical instruments, social media software that revolves around music. There are numerous other holdings that complement his involvement with Cakewalk. Of course I’m not privy to anything special or secret as the information I’ve relayed here was made known to the Cakewalk community at the time that Bandlab purchased all the Intellectual Property from Gibson. Cakewalk has never been more stable and supported than right now - at least in my estimation as someone who has used Cakewalk for more than 3 decades. Enjoy it.

  34. I think the idea there is to make any colours be non-distracting unless you're specifically "activating" it, which I agree is counter to what the button actually does and is a bit confusing. I think a better icon is needed - one with FX and a line through it, so in the deactivated state, it's not lit, but when it's activated you'll clearly see that "the button with the FX crossed out is on" kind of thing, meaning your FX are bypassed. I have a vague recollection that someone has done something similar in the Themes forum? Colin? Erik? Anyone? But yeah, I think that would be nice to be added into the stock themes. I'd suggest the PDC button could have something similar too.

  35. Don't forget Reaper! The discounted license is only $60 for the whole functionality and that for years of updates (not like Mixbus that requires money for almost each update). Also, if I compare the performance of Waveform to Reaper, then I get sleepy with the WF's plugin scan and startup time! The functionality seems also somehow limited if I look at the track controls. Last but not least some of the text in WF is almost unreadable for me when I test it on my laptop. The complicated offline license workflow (by support) for WF Free is also strange IMO. All in all, it seems to be nothing for me!

  41. When I was playing Quake II my boys were little (4 &5) and they had previously not been allowed to see (anyone) play these kind of games. They loved to watch me play and would cheer me on. The boss fights were too scary though, they would hide under my desk until I was victorious and it was safe to come out.

  43. I thought this might interest the old people here, ie. everyone. https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/doom-64 Apparently this is a standalone game and a direct sequel to Doom II, not a console port of either of the original games. It has new levels, new enemies, new everything. It's made by a different team than other Doom games, but people on Reddit seem to think it's honestly a good game.
