  8. Thanks. I do know the very basics of EQ, but not really how to functionally execute EQing on my mixing. As far as strategy insights (my background is a digital marketing director and Fortune 500 business strategist with a specialty in technology; I've advised probably two dozen music software companies over the years; done a lot of writing and public speaking). The shortest way to put it is that you use data as a vital input in decision making. The data will include hard numbers such as sales data, product usage, support data and also research study data -- and their perception of survey data is what I suspect that is what some of the folks here are thinking about and ripping on. So in this case, the CEO has likely seen data on sales on adoption and usage of the DAW category. His comments are focused on growth, which, of course, a lot of this forum users, demographically are older, more experienced users with more disposable income than say, most of the Gen Z segment they're targeting. The largely Boomer demographic operates very differently in terms of tech and just about everything else when it comes to DAW software. Of course, a 50+ year old DAW user is going to have very different wants and needs. That user likely prefers hardware metaphors in the DAW design that mean nothing to Gen Zers. Like a lot of people here, years ago, I was a semi professional musician and did some recording studio work and had lots of recording and effects hardware. Most of the folks PreSonus needs to win over have no experience with any of that stuff. Their entry point is often software like GarageBand (my kids used that at their elementary school). That is their understanding of recording gear, whereas people here often had gear like ADAT, I used my older brother's multitrack reel-to-reel recorder and bought a Fostex 4 track cassette recorder as my entry way. So, the big challenge is getting those folks in the pipeline. It's not a threat to us experienced DAW users. In fact, if PreSonus doesn't succeed on winning over these entry level users, they're a lot more likely to bail on DAW software.

  10. Kind of an Indian mood to this with sitar and other string instruments. I have some percussion loops from somewhere that have been on the hard drive for years. Sounded pretty good so I put them in. I don't do drums all that well but I thought this came out ok. Vocals from Aliye sample library which I've used in a couple of other songs. I really like that library. I googled the top 10 Indian girls' names and I picked Prisha from the list and used it as the name of the song. NI India Omnisphere Aliye vocal sample library various percussion loops Thanks for listening/commenting -Bjorn

  15. And someone doesn't know what we have or don't have, we haven't released everything yet... And of course we don't have YOUR holy grail which is why I hope I said some holy grail gear because there are multiple and we have some. We already bought and modeled a holy grail mastering EQ, we have the rare 1953 Bassman from the video and that's not even what I was talking about, and some one-of-a-kind gear that nobody else has (one of our T-RackS models is one, but that's not the only one-of-a-kind item we have). I'm glad you're happy with what you have and consider the holy grail for your needs and who you know etc but I was just saying that you don't know what we have and got a bit abrasive about it which I thought was a bit much. Sorry, but I'm known to speak openly here and I'm sure you're a great person and obviously knowledgeable but you came at me a bit hard there, no? Anyway, I can't wait to release more of the great gear from our private amp vault. Edit - lo and behold I did say "some holy grail gear"... I'm sorry that seemed offensive, I wasn't trying to one-up what you your friend has.

  20. I'm not sure it's ever really safe to assume that based on that criteria. Some companies just charge a lot more... I do expect these would be quite decent though and the feedback on them is normally pretty good. I haven't pulled the trigger on them yet, but that's primarily due to price. The consensus seems to be the Cherry Audio emulations sounds really good, but not necessarily as close an emulation as some competition. If you're purely after the original sounds, then maybe that makes them not quite as good, but if they sound great then that counts for a lot as well. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to have a few options.

  26. I found another setting that, together with the other settings I recommended in my previous post, will work around the problem. When you use these settings, the initial markers and the notes are no longer shifted. Be aware that Cakewalk still reorders and modifies other events, see the details in my earlier post. But using the following settings should make your style editing process useable without having to re-shift events back to their original positions. Suggested settings: In Cakewalk Preferences, MIDI, Playback and Recording, uncheck "Always Use Sysx Banks for MIDI Files (Instead of Sysx Data)". In the TTSSEQ.ini [Options] section, set GeneralMidiSMFs to 0. In the TTSSEQ.ini [Options] section, set TranslateRPN to 0. Detailed steps to change these settings: In Cakewalk, go to the Edit menu and choose the Preferences command. Under the MIDI category, click on "Playback and Recording". At the bottom of the page, uncheck the box "Always Use Sysx Banks for MIDI Files (Instead of Sysx Data)", then click OK: Close Cakewalk and open Notepad (or another text editor). In Notepad, go to the File menu and choose the Open command. In the File name box, put in the following name then click the Open button. %AppData%\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core\TTSSEQ.ini Note: %AppData% is an environment variable that will take you to your App Data folder. Under the [Options] section add the following lines: GeneralMidiSMFs=0 TranslateRPN=0 (If these lines already exist, change the values on the end to 0). Save the file and close Notepad. Now when you open your style MIDI file in Cakewalk and re-save it, the markers and notes are no longer shifted. __________ Sources I mentioned the source of the GeneralMidiSMFs setting in this previous thread: Saved MIDI file misaligned track starts. Specifically from Special handling of GM, GS, and XG MIDI files: and Cakewalk Help - TTSSEQ.INI: I read about the TranslateRPN setting in a PDF file called The Cakewalk Application Language Programming Guide for SONAR (Version 2.2. Febrary, 24, 2010). You can download it from the link in this post: Re: CAL manual or guide in PDF. In this document, section 5.9 "Details on RPN and NRPN Controller Events" describes how Cakewalk combines the CC events for RPN or NRPN commands into one event. On page 84 it says:

  32. We're all here buying stuff, but I wish we shared more of the music we make. I've tried to encourage Larry to share his music, like in a signature file, as he's shared it with me in PMs. He's a talented rock guitarist. I have never seen Larry sharing this anywhere in the forum. But this is really good and deserves more than 6 likes, come on people, get on it. Maybe Larry will check his SoundCloud account. We're only buying stuff here to make music.

  35. The only reason I didn't buy things last month with the loyalty voucher was the $50 I'd have to spend, it had nothing to do with the deals on the table. If you looked at what you could get during the Summer Sale + Hall of Fame EX sale, it was actually nuts. I put a bunch of stuff in my cart and looked at what my voucher could have got - it would have been somewhere around $8/plugin. And that was generally stuff I didn't have yet and I own at least 90 of what they were offering for sale on the site now. Same deal less than a year ago would have been instant buy. It was just a matter of timing.

  37. That's when I bought in. They were the first Dev I went "all-in". It's sad to see they haven't done anything new since Little Plate. (?) They went from a premier Dev to an afterthought. Such a promising company and great plugins, it's just too bad. I wonder if they lost their main developer or some other internal shake-up happened? (Disclaimer: pure WAG conjecture!) Anyway, hopefully the new website in indicative of new things coming from SoundToys.

  44. @ZokZTM After my sharing my thoughts a little too openly about contacting Larry via Facebook, I did contact him. I told him about this thread -- even how I unintentionally derailed the happy vibe for a little bit by oversharing (we've discussed each other's worldviews in the past) -- but that he should visit to see the outpouring of appreciation for him, that he will smile. I also let him know that I wasn't asking him to come here because I have the motive of wanting him to keep pumping out deal threads. Yes, I'm very grateful for Larry tirelessly doing that. But I don't think expecting him to come back here only to pump out threads for us is really an act of friendship. At least, that's my perspective. I told him that I think it would be great if he just sees peoples' posts about how important he is to this community and how much people care about him. If he wants to stick around, he shouldn't feel the need to constantly create deal threads like he had in the past. Just chill and enjoy making comments like the rest of us. He's earned Hall of Fame status and a lifetime of goodwill from the community. Larry said to me that a group of us here is like family. Well, you know, you can still care about family even when you don't agree on certain things. In fact it's pretty common.

  46. Very candidly, I sent Larry a PM here and I'm not certain about contacting him on Facebook as 90% of his posting is political and social worldview commentary, which isn't something I'm comfortable with. It does make me grateful we don't talk politics at this forum.
