Hi Peeps, Would you mind if I shared some of my flame fractal creations here? Sometimes it may be a still image but I ultimately aim to create animations. The YouTube stuff will have my music attached, of course, but you can always mute that and play some heavy metal or R&B in the background. It's not about the music, more about the pretty graphics. Any complaints and I will desist. cheers andy3 points

Whenever I see "Softube FET Compressor", I mentally insert an extra A after the FET. I wonder whether it's how they get the cheese in the tubes ... I blame my medication.3 points

Wow. A download progress meter on the opening Waves Central screen. And it actually works. Well, it actually moves and appears to be reflective of a state of download. And when I see an indication that something is actually working, I can go into that reflective state, and know that it has all been exactly as I desired. There was one plugin update for 'Sibilance.' And when I clicked to update, another, apparently functioning progress bar that works!3 points

I'm assuming that you would have been using something like Fractint, perhaps? I've not used that program for some time. And the stuff that I do are based on "flame fractals" which is totally different to the usual Mandlebrot stuff that Fractint created. Not that I'm any kind of expert... The whole fractal thing blows my brain. In an effort to try to understand the flame fractal stuff I sometimes reference the following:- http://larryriddle.agnesscott.org/ifs/ifs.htm Some interesting stuff there but I struggle with the "math." End of. However, with Chaotica, the software I use, I have created some fractals based on that website. This is a Heighway Dragon:- This is a McWorter's Pentigree:- This is a Sierpinski Pentagon:- And so on. I created all the above within Chaotica by working through the examples from that website. Chaotica then allows me to create more complex iterations and animate them. That is what I want to share, providing that enough people don't mind, including the moderators here, of course. After all, this is not at all about music and I can be accused, at the least, of posting off topic stuff. And then there will be some that will flame me for "self promotion" of my music in a forum that is not for that kind of thing. Hence why I have asked the question.3 points

I've had this for a long time and it is my first stop for string sounds - this is so cheap it must almost be in no brainer territory - the choice of sounds is extensive - as Zo says browser is a bit old fashioned but once you've used it for a while you get use to it - and as I said it does sound good!!!2 points
-
The weak point for me is browsing ... and interfacing , with the amount of expansion , still some work. To be considered even after rescent updates imho ...2 points

Synkrotron hit upon something that I would like to discuss, but I won't. The idea of melody. There's much more that could be taught on that subject than the world understands. Regarding eternal music, and it's intention, you hit a homerun, Starise. The life "under the sun" is of the soul, earthly, fleshly, natural. The life "unto the Son", is capable (but still almost all is not) of being from God's Spirit, and is heavenly, spiritual, supernatural (still uses all the created elements of music - notes, timing, chords, etc., but its origin is from above). If you ever get a chance to hear, it will affect you in a much different way than the music we all love(d) as we grew up. Music that is truly from God's Spirit, will actually minister to you and is FULL OF LIFE and ENERGY. Again, it's not anything like new age music, which is just a different form of soul music.2 points

Prepare to receive a private message complaining that you are posting more fractals than anyone else Andy!!! 🤣 And, yes, we were using Fractint with a few, choice, C++ modifications. I think it was you who turned me on to Chaotica, but I haven't had any time to play with it... Here's an interesting factoid: Many of you have heard of things like the Fibbonacci sequence (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, ...) and the Golden Ratio (Psi or approximately 1.618) as well as how these appear in nature particularly with growth. Well, fractals share this as most will grow to be 61.8% larger as they develop! Run a simple Mandlebrot set and it's upper growth limit is the Golden Ratio. Cool, eh? 😎2 points

I gave up on the UVI Portal upgrade and I'm just downloading it from the website directly. Says it's 5.5GB and it's going to take 2-3 hours given how slow the direct download is running (on my crazy fast gigabit fiber). Sigh. Update: On the website there is a drop down for the download link, has a choice of Primary, US Standard Link, Asian Mirror and Torrent. Primary is crazy slow, but if I pick the US Standard Link it's much faster. Says 14 mins remaining...1 point

Good thread. I wasn't aware of the Microsoft real time scanning thing. Changes shall be made this afternoon. While on the subject of Anti-Virus / Malware scanning programs, if you are running McAffee or Nortons, just get it off your machine NOW. You don't need it. These programs are worse on a DAW machine than an actual virus! I had issues all last year with audio dropouts and the machine bogging so badly that the screens would stop updating. I made 4 changes that completely changed the stability of my machine when running CW. Removed ALL McAffee products and started using the build in Windows anti-virus solution. Removed ALL Nvidia drivers from my machine and reverted to using the stock Windows display drivers. This includes removing that pesky high definition audio driver that Nvidia installs. I was running a wireless NIC in my machine because I was too lazy to run a hard wire to my building NIC. I removed the wireless card along with all of the drivers and reverted to using the built in NIC on a wired connection. I swapped out the system drive for an SSD and rearranged my files so that the CW audio has its on dedicated drive. Bottom line is that I never have an issue now. After swearing that I'd never go back to CW, here I am. My changes along with the improvements made to the program by the Bakers in the last year have completely changed my mind. My specs are in my signature and you can see that I'm not exactly running a state of the art rig, but it's back to being rock solid with these few changes.1 point

Q: What's the only thing worse than a bagpiper? A: Good question. We're still trying to find out too. Q. What's the difference between a bagpipe and a trampoline? A. You take off your shoes when you jump on a trampoline. Q. Why did the chicken cross the road? A. To get away from the bagpipe recital. Q. What do you call bagpiper with half a brain? A. Gifted. Q. How do you make a chain saw sound like a bagpipe? A. Add vibrato. Q. Why do bagpipers leave their cases on their dashboards? A. So they can park in handicapped zones. Q. What do bagpipers use for birth control? A. Their personalities. Q. What's the difference between a dead bagpiper in the road and a dead country singer in the road? A. The country singer may have been on the way to a recording session. Q. What did the bagpiper get on his I.Q. test? A. Drool. Q. What's one thing you never hear people say? A. Oh, that's the bagpipe player's Porsche. Q. Why do bagpipers always walk when they play? A. Moving targets are harder to hit. Q. How can you tell if a bagpipe is out of tune? A. Someone is blowing into it.1 point
