  1. Updates and upgrades have been added

  2. All MeldaProduction plugins have been updated to 13.00. 13.00 is a huge update focusing mainly on user interface. But it also provides stability and performance improvements, and many new features. It is highly recommended to install this update. The update is free as always and you can install it simply by downloading and using the newest installer from our download page. Please check the release notes for V13 to avoid backwards compatibility issues. Here's the list of changes: Effects MPowerSynth MDrummer MSoundFactory Additionally the long awaited MSoundFactory public beta has been released. MSoundFactory may well be (now or in the future) the most versatile instrument ever made. The current version doesn't feature a full sampler yet, it is a very preliminary beta, however as a synthesizer it is already extremely powerful. It is already available for purchase for an introductory price. It is free for MCompleteBundle owners of course. https://www.meldaproduction.com/download/plugins?source=newsletter

  3. While I know a lot of users might argue with me, I think Cubase's MIDI isn't really all that much better than CbB, except for a few things. Those things may be more important to you though. I personally see it as kind of a tie. But I also used Cakewalk since it came on floppy discs, so I'm not sure I can honestly compare the two on everything. I can be productive with either. Nice MIDI things in Cubase that CbB can't do natively/easily/at all that I use (I'm sure there are others, these are the ones that effect me): Chord Pads Expression maps MIDI Sends Chord recognizer (if you place the time line on some MIDI notes Cubase can tell you what cord it is) Quantizer has lots of options Things I hate about Cubase: Non-Windows window management. Every window in Cubase acts crazy in some half-mac/half-Atari SE kind of way. The toolbars all don't work like Windows apps. It drives me mad. When I minimize a project window I don't want to have to also minimize the app menu floating on my screen/etc. You don't delete/remove plugins/synths in Cubase instead you set it to No VST Instrument/No Effect. On paper this sounds fine but when I want to remove a plugin I don't want to scroll to the top of a giant list to select No Effect, I'd rather right click and pick delete. Recording a synth is a lot harder to do than Cakewalk, I almost always have to Google it since I can never remember the steps. They aren't hard but for some reason it bothers me. Included MIDI FX plugins seem kind of weak. Had to buy jBridge to run the handful of 32-bit plugins that I still use. Things I think are pretty much a tie: Built in effects/included synths/etc. I rarely use Cakewalk's and I rarely use Cubase's. Not sure that's a fault of either company though. Thing I miss the most about Cakewalk: Melodyne ARA integration. (this is supposed to show up in Cubase soon though, so I'm really hopeful). On the whole though I think CbB holds it own with Cubase better than most people would think. I'd give Cubase the edge for synths and MIDI but not by an epic amount. If you are thinking about switching one I thing I do think is true, you can't easily use both. You kind of have to commit if you want to get the most out of either app. It's why I rarely use CbB anymore. Not because CbB can't do it, it's just a matter of personal focus.

  6. One thing about Cubase, there are no upgrade paths for the SE versions of the instruments it includes. So if you want the full version you have to buy it like you had nothing. Figuring this out was harder than it should have been. So no upgrade path for Groove Agent SE or Halion Sonic SE. There is an upgrade to Padshop Pro though (I've been meaning to get that for awhile it's pretty cheap).

  9. Hi, Kakku, It's really great to see you on the new forum and to hear a new song from you!😀 This is a great sounding piece of dance electronica, with excellent synth work and composition, great playing and lots of cool melodies! The modern sounding mix sounds clean, wide and punchy, and I could easily imagine hearing this being played in a dance club in any big city. Excellent work, my friend, very cool song!👍 Best wishes, Bob

  10. As someone who doesn't really own much orchestral content, this was a good opportunity for me to jump into something of much better quality. I may also not use it a great deal, but it is significantly deeper in content than I was expecting. I have never been a huge fan of Kontakt's GUI, but quickly forgot what player I was using once I jumped into the library. It is definitely a nice library, and since I have nothing to really compare it too, I won't have anything to complain about. 😁

  13. Just too happy not to share - I happen to have an Alienware 17 R5 laptop, that I use both for live performance (I play keys and use VST hosting software to load up a bunch of soft synth sounds), and I also use it for mobile recording of things like drums or the bass player, or a vocalist, etc... Anyways, I had already modified its original configuration, to put in 2 M.2 2280 NVME 2TB drives, as well as an additional 2TB Sata SSD. Well, I just found out tonight, in a review of the specs, that it actually supports THREE NVME drives, with the 4th slot used for Bluetooth and WiFi. SO, I thought having a laptop with not only room for 3 hard drives, but 2 of those as NVME drives, was crazy kewl, but now I can actually add an additional NVME drive, which is absolutely amazing, as I have more sample libraries I can load up on it now. WAHOOO!!!! I apologize for the all caps on the wahoo, I was just absolutely floored to find out I can have a total of 4 hard drives on a laptop, with 3 of those being the super speedy NVME type. This is going to put a quick dent in my budget.... Bob Bone

  17. Nor do I, Ed. Nor do I. Geoff, looking forward to catching up. Let me know when you'll be in town. Today, in a celebration of life and a renewed confirmation that "you can't take it with you", I bought myself a new microphone. Some would have gone for a new pair of sneakers or a concert ticket, but I went with a new mic. A Sennheiser e945 to replace my old SM58 standby. These days I prefer a handheld dynamic over a condenser when recording my own voice. Mostly, though, this one's for stage use. I'm hoping its narrower pickup pattern will help with feedback issues - my vocal/keyboard monitor is an 8" QSC on a stand that sits to my left at ear level. It works well, but in some rooms I can't get as much volume as I'd like due to feedback.

  18. Well yes understood. Me neither(on learning a new DAW). It's the other frills added to the daw that sometimes tempt me, and it might do one or two things that CbB can't do. I just don't have the time. I have 4 other daws as it is. Does v10 come with the full version of Halion? That might be a deal breaker.....or I should say deal maker for a person with uncontrollable GAS. I should just stay away from this place

  21. A new install of CbB shows two paths in preferences c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins c:\program files\common files\vst3 A third path is silently added when scanning - c:\program files\cakewalk\shared plugins\internal This path is shown in the Plug-in Manager as the image above shows. If a "fresh" install is not the initial install on the PC, the existing CbB registry entries should be removed if one wants to make sure everything is set back to factory defaults. There are some problems with the settings shown in the Plug-in Manager image above: Unnecessary paths - by default c:\program files\cakewalk\shared dxi and c:\program files\cakewalk\shared plugins only contain DX plug-ins and should not be in the VST scan path. Re-scan options are enabled - these options are normally disabled. Keeping these options enabled significantly slows down the scanner and causes plug-ins to be scanned unnecessarily. FWIW, the makers of the this DAW have recommended scan configuration and operation should be performed from preferences NOT the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager.

  23. I was just about to mention that ^^ not sure if anyone else mentioned it but it has bitten me as well (the punch in button). I can imagine. its hard enough sometimes to get a good take without having to worry about the software. I do miss those days of Tape when all one needed was clean heads, a full reel and good outboard FX.

  25. Hi, Lynn, I must have missed this on the old songs forum, but this is really quirky and cool with lots of interesting parts weaving in and out throughout the entire song!😀 Great lyrics and fun arrangement, with excellent musicianship and killer vocals. The mix is clean as a whistle, and clear, wide and punchy with great spatial detail and perfect panning. Very cool song, Lynn, I'm glad you gave it another shot, I definitely think it's a real keeper!👍 Great stuff, buddy, have a good one! Bob

  27. Among the many things I like about Albion ONE: they have the best string ensemble spiccato and staccato articulations in the business, to my ears. The velocity layer calibration is just right, and there is not a hint of the machine-gun effect, and it all sounds really wonderful. You can go from light and agile, to punchy and authoritative, and it always sounds natural.

  29. kakku, this is a pleasant surprise. It has a nice blend of upbeat pop with shred guitar, and the arrangement has a few unexpected turns that held my interest. IMO, arranging is one of the hardest things to master even if one can make a good mix. It can be learned, up to a point, but is mostly in-born. You seem to have the touch because I never know what to expect from you. Keep it up!

  33. There is a free VCV Rack spinoff called VeeCeeVST Rack which works in several DAWs including CbB. It is a VST plug-in containing many of the free modules written for VCV Rack. I posted about it here.

  35. I don't like the frequent updates though, this seems to be something unique to Sonar users, who expect one a month and think that is a good thing If you were a SONAR user before the "Great Panic of 2017" you got used to this schedule for a few years. I think it's great the Noel & Co. still do updates on what seems a more quarterly basis, but I do like monthly updates for bug fixes etc. vs. feature updates. I'd rather have stability vs. a bunch of features I may or may not use. As for the program's popularity. Who really cares? It works, it's still here, it doesn't look to be going away anytime soon. This is great news for my work (commercials and post production) since we have almost 16 years of projects on back-up. If we did have to switch DAWS it would have been a major problem because we often have to go to projects from several years ago.

  36. Due to common components between programs, it is recommended to install them chronologically. Also bear in mind that CbB is 64-bit, so getting too attached to "older" may be a frustrating or even futile venture, depending on what plugins you are focused on. When I built this machine up, I installed everything from Cakwalk Command Center, then CbB. If you want V-Vocal, I would do that first, then CCC, then CbB.

  38. Same here. My last drink was on New Year's Eve 1986. I can also pinpoint the exact date of my first debilitating hangover: January 1st 1987. It was an out of town gig so we had to drive hours to get home, through terrifying winter conditions. Though fearful of whether or not our bass player's erratic driving might get us killed, I couldn't help but wonder if death might actually be a relief. I was an undiagnosed diabetic at the time, which I'm sure contributed to the intensity of the hangover. It was unpleasant enough to deter me from drinking from then on. Yeah, sometimes I feel like the odd man out as the only sober one in a group. However, I do not begrudge others' drinking. They are enjoying life in their own way, and I am not so arrogant as to tell them that only I know the "right" way to live. Doing so would only give them permission to tell me all the ways I've gotten it wrong. Next thing you know, they're bringing me pamphlets. Noooo! So if you come to my house, you're welcome to have a drink. Just BYOB.

  39. I call that one clever. The best ones are those you don't get at first. For those who have done crosswords for a long time, have you ever noticed how words come in style for a while and then go out??? Some years ago you saw IBO, ULM (Einstein's birthplace), OBI, ENA (Bambi's Aunt), ANA (Literary Collection), and so many others everywhere, but they are rarely seen today. 42. Nice! I listened to it pretty loud - those are some great synths! One idea - when it's loud, the synths are very bright in the mix, and the lower drums like kick and snare seem very pale. I don't know what you are using for monitors, but I think the shine is tilted towards the upper range. Do you have a filter? In your intro you could filter in the kick drum. Just another thought. The outtro groove is really extra catchy!!! cheers! -Tom
