  1. Even if the Bakers thought it would be out by now and it isn't, this likely means that they are being careful that the product is really ready for release, and it is fair that the popup indicates that it is not far off from now. So, I would rather they be a little patient on the release and feel good about it, rather than have it come out and too many people criticize it. If it comes out in April or May, no one is going to say - Oh it is great but I am not happy because it did not come out earlier. But if it is half-baked (pun intended), there will be a lot of criticism. We waited this long and we have had the advantage of a free product, so I think we should give them some slack here.

  2. Deep Purple's Getting Tighter - 2010 remaster vs original. They killed the groove - and that groove was what the song was all about. I watch a lot of music related content on YouTube these days, so of course I get the targeted ads. And essentially, what they are advertising are products and libraries designed to get that sound you're familiar with - and that will make you sound just like everyone else. I cringe every time one of those ads start and I hear those libraries. Back in the days, I read about the making of Nine Inch Nails The Fragile in Keyboard magazine. Trent Reznor had hired a guy (Keith Hillerbrand from memory) to create a huge library of weird, unique sounds for him to use, just for that album. To me, the making of that record always represented everything that was fantastic about DAWs and working with computers. But there are also a lot of opportunities to remove almost every variable from the equation, thereby compromising the chances of creating something original. And it seems that a lot of people aren't making music for the love of art, so they're quite content to just assemble songs. It's their take on the same basic idea. If you spend 5 minutes on social media, it's quite obvious that most people only want to have their turn in the spotlight doing the same thing as everyone else. I remember recording demos with nothing but my guitars, a little Marshall transistor combo, an Akai XR10, a tube distortion, a wah pedal, and a Boss flanger. And the delay on my Sony reel machine. A lot of the things I had in mind like mellotron parts, a Hammond, or horns were simply impossible, so I would have to create something that had vaguely similar sonic qualities using what I had. In many ways, it often made the songs more interesting. It's something I try not to let go of, even now that I have access to all those instrument libraries.

  4. In my recent experience that works both ways. Try asking a "customer service" person a very simple question that isn't on their list of pre-approved questions and it's very much going to be a long haul experience...... Some days I could convince myself that they deliberately employ imbeciles so that people won't bother calling any more and then they can blame the "unfortunate" (but very much profit increasing) closure of the staffed "helplines" on the fact that "nobody uses them".

  6. In 2019 got the fastest processor then, the 3900X. It worked great, then later Cakewalk started messing up. For months I started changing everything else, upgraded to a 5950X. Same problems. Everything I tried worked for a day. The last couple of months, while playing back a song, it didn't matter if I had a recording of mixed Audio and Midi of 4 tracks or +20. The CPU threads would start spiking at 4:04 minutes of playback, slow down for a few seconds, making noise, or just stopping no matter where you started playback on a song. Every time I tried something new, remove a virus program, it worked for a day or two then act up again. Normally my CPU with maximum channels with 3-4 effects, audio and or Midi, the CPU use was at 3-11%, and 128GB of RAM memory at only 16% usage. Hard drives are a mixture of SSD and NMVe, showing no or little visual activity. A few days ago. I finally ran a latency audio tester. The final results were that my computer had no problems and could practically run anything. I then ran Cakewalk with it running and when it crapped out, it said the error was due to something not turning off fast enough. I could see the spikes in the CPU threads. It recommended, that update my motherboard Bios. There have been 8 updates since I last did one. I updated the Bios, and I noticed right away on Cakewalk the thread pattern of the CPU looked different. At the +4-minute mark when the Audio engine dropped out, it was the first time I had no CPU thread spiking. I use an MOTU 24AO as my audio interface. I went to their website to see if they had new hardware and software updates for Win 10, and they did not. But they had a new page telling you to remove Windows Cortana. I always had mine disabled, and Windows plans to get rid of it. I always disabled most background programs, and the modem which didn't help. I followed the steps to remove Cortana. Then I went to the Presonus (I have 4 DAW programs) knowledge base, it has a page to optimize the computer for audio. It had me disable, one protection protocol I had on. Before when I would reach that 4:04 mark, when playing back If it did not crash or slow down. I could still see the CPU thread indicators starting to increase double or triple, and after a while go back down to normal. After getting rid of Cortana, and doing what Personus recommenced, I feel like one or both of these two things, solved my problem. Why? Because now when I get to the 4 minute mark, my CPU thread activity, remains the same. Today will be day 3 since I made the changes. Keeping fingers crossed.

  9. I used this after finishing off my basement studio last year and it worked great. My beef with this software is that it doesn't have a "system wide" capability - you can only use it in your DAW as a plugin. So I really just used it for measuring the best potions and settings for my monitors and sub with no intention of using the correction, and it worked great. I listen to Tidal and YouTube for referencing so I don't use it. It's a big dedicated space and I have the luxury of being able to move my listening position around as well as the monitors. After I get all the gear and crap back into the space and add some acoustic treatment, I'll re-measure then. But for now, I'm happy and it's world's better than where I started! (I wish I had the software when I was mixing for years in my unfinished basement so I could have taken before/after measurements.) I started here, where I wanted my listening position to be: After after weeks of moving things around and tweaking settings on my subwoofer and monitors, got here.

  10. I interpret the point in time of this popup that the bakers have overrated themselves! It seems there is more effort necessary as they have expected! I guess that they had thought at this time they would have released the new Sonar for a while. But maybe I'm wrong!

  22. There are songs that I hear on XM that just don't have the sound/impact of the songs I remember. Example: "The Ocean" Led Zep, album "Houses Of The Holy". The drum lick that John puts in that song, made that song!! It was the highlight of it. Today when I hear it on XM or even the local radio station, that triplet kick is almost unheard now. So younger people that hear it today for the first time will not get the very important 'feel' of the song. Seems that radio today has computerized all music to eliminate the "loudness difference" with algorithms that have effectively drained the dynamics and altering the mixes of once great recordings!! ZZ Top "LaGrange" is another example, when it was released on CD it had way too much reverb on it. Did not have the same sound as the original. Kansas "Leftoverture" release on CD was the same way. Way too much reverb. ZZ Top corrected this when they released their "Studio Albums" box set. Thanks Billy! (However, some radio stations still use that over-reverbed versions) I could go on... but I will stop this rant from getting out of hand!! Blame it on @craigb, he got me started!!!

  23. Here is my latest release. Some notes about the song: It's the first time ever that I've completed a song at 'Final Mix 1', mainly thanks to the clarity I can now get with Slate VSX headphones. These days I'm completing mixes so much quicker and slowly getting better quality with each song. It's also the first time I've used a cowbell in a song πŸ˜‚ The song is about the impact that us humans have on the planet and how we don't always learn from past mistakes, and sometimes bury our heads in the sand to avoid hard truths. The reference to the pyramids in the video is because the song was partly inspired by some of Graham Hancocks work and theories regarding ancient civilizations. I hope you enjoy it and any feedback is much appreciated. It's also on all the streaming services. https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/xlsx/this-can-only-end-one-way

  26. My first answer would be to try it and see if it works. I am going to say undo does not work for fader moves in the console since I tried it and I could not undo a fader move. You can, however, right click and set a snap point so you can double click it and it will return to that point. You can also save a snapshot or a mix recall point to store the state of everything.

  31. Ouch, that makes things a bit trickier depending on how complex the project is. Corruption is certainly not heard of. Reconstruction can be a royal pain to drag/drop tracks between projects but is an option. Other options like bouncing entire tracks to a single clip or even exporting the project as stems can reduce clip "count," but will in turn make them HUGE (even silence has "size" in that case) as well as other potential issues. If you start trying things like that be sure to save the cwp with a new name so you always have the original to fall back on. Hidden tracks seems the most likely, but if that is already a dead end for you, I am at a loss on what is most efficient to address your situation.

  32. Wow, what great hardware deals you have in the U.S. ! Regrettably our deals are far from that!

  33. Thanks man! Just tried it out and it actually works on the new .cwp files too! At least it does on mine. However, the list of audio files seems still be the same as when one list the files in the browser inside Cakewalk. Thus displaying also unused audio files in the project (audio files that ones was used in the project but where the clips themselves have been deleted from the tracks, but not the audio file itself in the audio folder). I wish there were some feature to display only the files that are actually used in the project, and not least making the names of those clips popping back up in the timeline as markers.

  34. Hey everyone, We're still in the process of investigating the issue. I've also reached out to the Cakewalk team and am awaiting a reply. Steinberg has changed the structure of the VST3 format in recent versions, where there is a parent folder with the .vst3 extension. See geeky developer documentation here. After investigating for the last day or so, it's my hunch that Cakewalk needs to update their implementation of the VST3 specification in order to support the new bundled format and manifest files. This will allow (in theory) for faster plugin folder scanning, and greater compatibility with all VST3 plugins going forward.

  35. That works! The only problem is that you would have to buy them all individually. It also looks like tax is applied because the price comes to $11.64. So if you buy all 5 that is $58.2.

  36. Why, what's wrong with their authorization and installation? I find it quite easy. However, I'm starting to feel less excited about their deals as I realize that I hardly use the ones that I already have.

  42. With all due respect, that's not the actual issue Bob! If you put 100 red ants into a jar then add 100 black ants and shake the jar, the red ants will think the black ants are enemies and vice versa, when the real enemy is the one who shook the jar. There's about a 1% group of inferior beings (that's hard to call human) that are purposely causing division, war and poor health because they believe they rule the world and we're just "useless eaters" (their words). They want only 500 million of us and, if we don't start acknowledging what we all have in common and not what makes us different soon, they will get their wish! Earth can easily hold a lot more people than we have now peacefully with all their needs met. There's a lot more to this, but it just gets weirder and I've probably doomed the thread now already! πŸ™„
