  4. I ran into an issue with the VST3 version not running after update, but I fixed the problem and it now works. The problem was that it created a folder called ".vst3" at the end of the name so Cakewalk assumed the folder was the file and it couldn't load it. So the solution is to rename the folder without ".vst3" at the end of the name, then it will work. Just wanted to share in case someone has the same problem and doesn't know what to do.

  8. If the audio range goes outside of the source range slider, it won’t be compressed or expanded (other than the knee transition area). It will still apply a fixed amount of gain if the target min is higher than source min, though. For leveling here are two approaches: Source => Target approach 1) Set the source range so the vocals are generally within range (doesn’t have to be perfect, this is just to get in the ballpark). 2) Set the target range quite narrow. IMO shift+drag on the range slider is the easiest approach because you can continuously hear how the dynamics are being impacted and let your ears guide you. Just shift+click the middle of the slider and drag the mouse up/down/left/right while listening. 3) Check the quietest sections and listen to how the settings behave during the transitions between loud/quiet. If quiet sections are getting lifted up too high you can raise the source min a bit, just as with a normal threshold control. Downward compression approach 1) Switch the drop-down to the top-right of the source range slider. There is an option for downward compression. 2) Set the threshold and ratio as you would with any typical compressor. In this mode, the controls should hopefully seem familiar. Here is my attempt at demonstrating, not with vocals but with a full song, using the histogram hold feature in the process. Sorry for the lack of voice over, I gotta find the time to create better videos and/or site tutorial images.

  12. Hello friends, here's one. <lyrics below> Would dearly LOVE LOVE LOVE mix comments about things that are buried, boomy, or pokey! <there is one cuss word in the song, repeated twice> but you will see why it is there cheers, many thanks and good music to you! -Tom Lyrics There were no global implications No chain of calamities combined No polarizing altercations Beween the deaf and dumb and blind There was no wobble in the axis The earth didn't slam into the sun My day didn't feel like it was over Before it had even begun : : Nobody that I loved went away Pretty Good Day Nobody I talked to had - - - - to say Pretty Good Day. : : The floor never turned into lava No rockets rained death down from the sky I didn't get crushed by this piano I didn't yearn for days gone by No mental meltdowns from a Karen I didn't have to wear a mask Everybody I met said "please" and "thank you" I didn't even have to ask : : Nobody that I love ran away Pretty Good Day Nobody I talked to had - - - - to say Pretty Good Day : : And when my day is finally over And I'm home safe and sound I can meet these expectations 'Cause the bar is on the ground : : Is there a chance for absolution? Or only the fire will spirits save ? Hopeless and frail is our condition Our only redemption is the grave (that's cheery. . .! )

  13. It appears to be 30% off the regular (generally steep) price for all Leapwing products at the moment. Here's one of the products I'm looking at. Each Leapwing item I've picked up so far I now regularly use on songs. https://www.bestservice.com/en/stageone.html Here's an explanation of this one with clear listenable examples. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQav4HNf1Jo And one more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nUZg1ER_kc A tasteful and understandable stereo widener.

  17. I love presets, especially for complicated plugins. It's a great way to learn them and a good starting point if you find one you like. BTW, here's the mix where I used the Clearmountain Spaces on the kick (and snare too, I think). I kind of abandonded it a year ago because I wasn't quite happy with it, so it's not really "finished". But I never would have tried a verb on the kick if I hadn't seen the preset in the Clearmountain plugin. I think it was something like "Beefy Low End" or something like that. But I kind of liked it! Disclaimer: this style is NOT a genre in my wheelhouse so I'm not certain how well things are balanced in that regard.

  18. iZotope has always exceled at purging older products from stores and the internet, so you might try reaching out to iZotope's customer service. The file was named "Exponential_Audio_Stratus_Win_Release_3_00.zip" (105MB) but has no hits for search engines.

  19. +1, it took a while for me to take advantage of pulling the DI signal from guitar inputs, but one of the best advantages of amp sims allows for rapid composition with the ability to re-amp in the box (that, and you can own $50,000 in "gear" that weighs nothing, of course). As far as presets, I finally upgraded to TH-U last Christmas, but still haven't downloaded any of the monthly presets. Presets (and samples) can be the biggest waste of time to sort through; it is often better to know how to tweak them to make them fit with what is "close enough." I have found "in the box" a bit stifling to creativity over the years, specifically camped out near a computer. I ended up going wireless several years ago, so can go outside on the porch to play and just let the DAW be itself (why I appreciate Studio One Remote a lot). Sitting in front of a DAW (or even with the screen in view) seems to shift focus to "potential editing" rather than "just playing" for me.

  20. In many areas that extend far beyond this topic, I love to find presets/templates/etc. that are close to what I'm looking for and then tweak them to make them mine. I'm a big fan of not reinventing the wheel! Of course, once I've done my own stuff, then I prefer to start with one of my creations and tweak from that. 😎

  23. This is the best price I can remember, too. I have also used VM in the FX bin as an FX Rack for CbB. Works for me. I can't test Nucleus either. Usually when resellers have VM bundles like this on sale there's a sale going on at Cherry Audio.** The JRRShop deal is better than $33 at CA. For those who might not know, Cherry Audio has changed to a NFR policy. So if you buy this and you don't like it from everything I've read, you will not be able to sell it (or transfer it) to anyone else (such as your heirs). For that reason, JMO: people might want to get a demo of a module or two first and if you like it, buy the bundle while on sale at the third party reseller that gives you the best perks. **From what I can see, there isn't a general sale going on at CA/VM.

  26. I love amp sims, but I can dial in what I want pretty quick. There are some ideas that an amp sim is so much better (effect automation primarily). As long as the actual playing is good, I can really park the guitar in to the mix. You can't dial back the distortion after a take with a mic/real amps. One just can't get caught in the rabbit hole of presets, it is way better when you have an idea of what you want and try to execute the idea than wandering to the land of lost presets ...usually 🤠

  27. TH-U will always have a spot in projects here - the sounds are good/great, the layout is simple, it's extremely flexible, and that CPU usage is barely noticeable. There's really not a lot it can't do. If Helix had the interface of TH-U, I would stop looking for amp sims now. As it is, Helix provides great tones but is uninspiring to me. TH-U is so easy to pull on a track and do 90 of what Helix does, with a fraction of the CPU. At half off, it's a pretty good deal. Plus you get Supercabinet and the ability to use Rig Models. I quit the Rig Model rabbit hole because it was getting ridiculous and I couldn't trial the rigs, which would cut down on the ones I didn't end up liking.
