  9. A tip for Samplitude Music Studio. In settings / VST it only has one user path you can enter. So same as ABLETON, if you have multiple VST paths go create a folder called VST PATHS and inside that folder add SHORTCUTS to all your VST folders. Pop this folder in the USER VST FOLDER PATH field and Music Studio will scan the lot via the shortcuts

  13. I recently signed up for the free 3 month trial of Composer Cloud and am really enjoying it. I can't say much about the merits of Opus yet, but it feels much better to work in aesthetically. I always thought Play seemed a bit archaic in its presentation. It is mighty fun to try the many libraries I always had curiosity about. Not sure I'd pay the normal asking price, however. Need to try those backup singers.

  17. Well... I changed my mind about this. After watching many videos and sound demos and also considering that Korg have not lowered the price of this collection bellow a certain point (f.i. I paid $99 for the original collection years ago) I decided not wait and get the whole shebang for $150. I just hope that this will give me a better deal if, ever, Korg grows the collection again. Also, the Prophecy is not incomplete as I thought. They just grouped 3 types of physical model oscillators into one.

  20. Because of my hoarding I still use HDDs. I may get to the point of deleting stuff I don't use to replace the stuff I rarely use. SSD to pricey for me once they go over the 1TB range. I may have to get a sata controller and duct tape. I got the Century Brass bundle which adds another 100GB.

  21. Use bounce to track(s) then archive the original tracks. This does the same thing as freeze except writes the data to a new track. When using bounce+archive on a soft synth make sure to disconnect the soft synth using the synth rack. This will free up the rest of the resources used by the synth, just like freeze.

  23. 64bit SF12 Pro does support 64bit VST2/3 3rd party plug-ins. I was very happy to pick it up in a Humble Bundle a few years ago, if only to retire my 32bit plug-ins completely. The scanner has issues with a few plug-ins. The SF13 Pro scanner seems a little better. It also has ARA support picking up both Melodyne 5 Studio and SpectraLayers 8 Pro which were already installed. For me, the update is well worth $25 even though I have not used use SF12 (or SpectraLayers) much since getting iZotope RX. It's still nice to have around. Rather than install most of the bundle, I logged into my MAGIX account and registered the products there. For faster loading don't forget to add /NOVSTGROVEL to the SF command line

  27. @TracingArcs You can sign up to HUMBLE from anywhere. In the create account it asks for your country and the price of the bundles are then shown in your countries currency. EG I am in Ireland so it shows as EUROS ( In my case €21 for this bundle ). When you buy the bundle you get SERIAL CODES for Soundforge, Core FX, Samplitude Music Studio, Wizard FX, Acid Music Studio 11. The Core FX and Wizard FX are effects plugins from Magix / Audio Plugin Union: https://www.magix.com/ie/music/audio-plugin-union/ I would not discount these, they work in CW also once installed. Nor would I discount Samplitude Music Studio or ACID. Both worth a look. Samplitude Music Studio comes with its own fair share of instruments and efx. In fact samplitude at the time was an alt DAW that people were considering when CW got dumped a few years back by Gibson. ACID, well this has been around a long time. Worth a look and uninstall when you like. In your HB account all your purchases are stored in LIBRARY and in many cases the install software is there too. In this case all the software have small install utilities to download. If you dont have an account with MAGIX already you may be asked to create one also. In my case I have had a Magix account for years and once I gave my email addy at end of say SF install it went through fine and actually added all these magix software to my Magix account also. Nothing devious or underhanded here. The idea of HUMBLE BUNDLE is they pull together bundles of like software with a theme eg here its soundforge/audio. Usually all the apps in any bundle is not the latest version, a few versions back, BUT HEY they are still a great deal. PLUS some of your few $/€/£ are going to charity which is a central point of HB. As you will see when buying you can choose to pay a bit more than the asking if you want to give more to the charities and developers .. your choice

  30. "They are after all just percussive noises, intended to thump, thwack, doong or whoosh and then get out of the way of rest of the track. " Love it! 🤣 😂 (Any drummers here, look away now...)

  31. Personally I think the drum options you listed are for different purposes. SD3 and BFD3 obviously have presets but also are aimed at giving the user the ability to take the raw sounds and craft their own sound from scratch. AD2 is more aimed as having a ready-to-go premixed sound to insert directly into a mix, sort of like you outsourced to a session drummer and engineer for the drum parts. Now as for which one you wind up using won't really make two s***s of a difference to the end listener. Hell you could even go against all conventional wisdom for the style of music you play and stick static electronic drum samples of a tonality that isn't normally associated with your genre and as long as the mix slaps, people will not care, not one iota. They are after all just percussive noises, intended to thump, thwack, doong or whoosh and then get out of the way of rest of the track. Whether you use a top-tier acoustic drum sampler, or record yourself hitting objects around your home, they can all be shaped to achieve a similar thing in the end. However given what you have said in regards to raw sounds, my vote would be for BFD3. The sound of the kit samples with all fx off, is the most raw sounding. SD3 is pretty raw too when you take everything off, but it makes me feel like what I am hearing has been just a tad pre-processed/leveled, etc. In regards to the significant price and storage size differences of both products my vote would also be for BFD3. I know that all the options of SD3 might be enticing, but like all instruments you will wind up with a small amount of "go to's" and the rest will just occupy drive space. They both sound interchangeably as good when mixed, so really it may be a question of how much stuff do you want collecting virtual dust?

  33. Oh well. I was tempted. But will wait for a deal on something that gets me into the $199 tier. From what I see. the best one would have been to get the Mixbox at $49 and had been sitting on the serial.

  38. You rebooted the computer yet? Seriously, it's well past time to update a version that is over 10 years old. CbB is so vastly improved over SPLAT, let alone 8.5.3 it's unreal. Especially for free there is absolutely no excuse not to.

  43. Pink Floydy Organ patch - just great! Everything works great, and I just wanted maybe a bit more bass in the mix, is it an acoustic upright bass? Or a cool fretless with some chorus? I couldn't tell but it sounded great. cheers, -Tom
