About Me

  1. I ent seen live performances since 2019. And TBH there are legacy acts that I'd pay to see anymore. I would still pay to see John Hiatt, Marc Cohn and The Fab Faux. It's downhill fast on who I'd like to see live.
  2. May 2019 first time (i.e., non-update) purchase (before I found out that SONAR had been resurrected): Samplitude Pro X4 Suite, Celemony Melodyne Essentials, SOUND FORGE Pro 11 $149.00 USD May / June 2020 upgrade offer e-mail: Samplitude Pro X5 Suite US$249 September -> November 2020 upgrade offer: Samplitude Pro X5 SuiteUS$199.00
  3. I would like to request an enhancement to Cakewalk by Bandlab please. Specifically, the ability to be able to assign keyboard shortcuts for the "Minimize Strip" and "Restore Strip Size" features for a track, to avoid needing to mouse click on the small buttons (see screenshot below). I asked if this was possible in the forum (https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/54233-is-there-a-keyboard-shortcut-for-minimizing-and-restoring-the-height-of-a-track-strip) but no-one has suggested to me that it is possible. After some Googling I found that @synkrotron asked about this in 2019 also (https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/1401-keyboard-shortcut-for-minimise-strip-and-restore-strip-size/), so it sounds like it has been desired by users for some time. The following features that ARE keyboard accessible cannot be used as workarounds: Auto Track Zoom (only allows one track at a time to be in expanded state, and I may wish multiple to be expanded) CTRL-SHIFT-Up/Down (incrementally changes the height of a track, and if used to "minimize" a track, its desirable expanded height is forgotten, and you must then incrementally increase it back to the desired height The "Minimize Strip" and "Restore Strip Size" buttons are perfect for my needs because, in one operation, they can collapse a track to its minimum height, or resize it back to its optimum, previously set size. Having the ability to do this via the keyboard would be a huge benefit to efficiency of workflow. Thanks for your consideration.
  4. the vocals are actually from my original demo and i chopped them up and melodyned the crap out of them to get them to sound reasonably close. i was going to only use them as a reference and re-record them, but after listening to them, i thought, hey - these are kind of quirky in a good way so i'll leave them for now. mainly the only other effect was long delays on the "clean water" section and then reverb as part of the overall room. on the "viking march" at the end, the bom-boms - i used melodyne to drop them low and auto-panned them. i had done that in the demo and it was freakish so i had to keep the concept... update: using my Synth V vocals with background singers as well. in this recording - the instruments are all computer generated with some tweaking, except the solo. i used HookPad, Scaler, patterns, etc to create the tracks, and in HookPad where i used some instruments, i substituted some of those for other sounds. so when i started writing this song (or parts), it as 2016. then a close friend passed in 2018, and as i worked on it, i took some of the things that were part of our life experiences and shaped lyrics around that - our wiccan / earth magic beliefs, drunkeness / etc, blues music, etc and it seemed to stream together. i put the demo together (mainly played live on acoustic guitar and double bass) in 2019 but didn't really record it "proper" until late last year. --- yes i know Quetzalcoatl is mispronounced 🙂
  5. This isn't 2019 you know. You can get injections that stop you from getting viruses now. Are you stupid or something?
  6. Hope so. Still waiting since 2019.... AAS reproduced the issue few years ago when I reached them.
  7. Yes. Great pop material. But sadly @craigb .. Marie Fredriksson died in 2019. Ultimately in 2002 she was diagnosed with a severe brain tumour which caught up with her in 2016 when they had to stop touring. Have a listen to this album, really upbeat with lots of Marie on it via singers Helena Josefsson and Dea Norberg. Listen to You hurt the one you love the most ... its the new Listen To Your Heart ( bit of Phil Collins in there too )
  8. So after the sad death of Marie Fredriksson in 2019 .. the other half of ROXETTE, Per Gessle ( hence the PG Roxette name ) has released a new album called Pop Up Dynamo. I have to say I really like this. Stepping into Maries shoes are singers Helena Josefsson and Dea Norberg. I think they did a great job, very sympathetic and a familiar Fredriksson presence throughout with some great pop up beat tracks like from Roxette of old. Of course Per is / was the main song writter. Here is the whole album on youtube. Im very partial to many tracks on it particularly HEADPHONES ON Here is a review where he talks about dusting off old keyboards If you want to go retro, get the right stuff, he smiles. So, I dusted off both the Jupiter 6 and 8, as well as my Prophet 5. A key or two was stuck, but after some TLC they were fit for fight again. Synth pop rules! http://roxetteblog.com/2022/10/28/pg-roxette-pop-up-dynamo-eleven-new-songs-with-a-classic-twist/
  9. So I'm back to Cakewalk after couple years and those green selection markers are annoying me just like they were in 2019... Has any option been introduced to disable them altogether?
  10. MS has had "Home Use Programs" for years that were $9.99 based on employees needing to use Office at home. IIRC, that program ended with 2019, but I thought they were forcing 365 on everyone. I didn't realize there was anything after 2019, so these might be a return of the HUP variety.
  11. Still skipping xils, primarily for the UX (I know, I know). Yeah, I had the first u-he NI bundle in 2019 but sold it. This one’s more interesting as I wanted Zebra (and Diva of course). I may part with Hive in a few months, but will check it out first. Didn’t like the first one (too EDM-ish) but now it has wavetables. And I still fondly remember talking to Howard Scarr at the Frankfurter Messe when Hive came out. Sweet man.
  12. I use that on my DAW box. I bought Office Professional Plus 2019 from one of those sites for like $39.99 and it installed and has been running fine ever since.
  13. As Brian says, that post is from 2020 Virustotal is showing that site as clean now ? By default the UVI portal uses the 'torrent' protocol so maybe this flagged a problem - FWIW you can turn the 'torrent' off in the Portal settings EDIT Virustotal's report of 'clean' is actually from 2019 - can't seem to find a way to rescan ? EDIT 2 - found the rescan came up clean apart from one scanner - assume false positive EDIT -3 tried doing the check in quttera (the one that returned the positive) - it's insisting there is malware (on 14 files ?)

  15. Turns out I'd already picked this up for free back in July 2019, and then instantly forgot about.
  16. Thanks. Evidently its popular: NI Access is now connecting for me, but I am getting . When I first saw it I wondered what the weeds overtaking the synth imagery was all about. I don't want my music making tools being made obscure by weeds. Perhaps its a sign that their HYPHA promotion is spreading exponentially and over powering their servers? hy pha - noun: each of the branching filaments that make up the mycelium of a fungus UPDATE: It took a while for NI Access to connect, authorize licenses, and then download and start to install Hypha--enough time to grind coffee beans, boil water, make the coffee, and do several other household activities (more than usual, but not 24 hours, yet). After maybe 35 minutes, NI Access switched from "Installing" to the "Oops . . . " message. NI Access now says Hypha is installed, but the Kontakt 7 Player (Standalone 7.0.11 ) shows a solid black window. Earlier it showed products I had. More Info: 15 minutes later: Logging out of NI Access and trying to log back in doesn't help. Reconnecting takes more time than usual (logging in, loading products). After about 6-8 minutes (more than enough time to read the manual), NI Access shows products with Hypha (and Kontakt Player 7 installed). After 20 more minutes Kontakt Player 7 (standalone 7.0.11) still come up with a solid black window. File > Options > Libraries says the Hypha library folder is present. Thanks for this detail. I have NA v 3.0.1. Will try reinstalling NA 1.11.0 (2019) on previous audio PC. Trying NA 2.5.0 first: Hypha Download failed. NA started Kontakt 7 Player downloaded/installing; Hypha queued. Task Manager said both Windows Installer and NA were active. Kontakt 7 Player allegedly installed; Hypha still queued. Kontakt 6 Player still works; Hypha library not present. Hypha switched from Queued to Install. Tried reinstalling Hypha. Triggers web browser + NA Error Message > Not enough free drive space Webpage shows example with 552 GB required and 379 GB required Hypha installation failed again; no details as to why except the web page. Will look for a message that says how many Mega GB are needed for Hypha. In NA it says 1.87 GB which I have. Tried again; NA downloaded (with time remaining countdown); NA allegedly installed successfully. Not seen in Kontakt 6 player (Standalone 6.7.1) Kontakt 7 Player (Standalone 7.0.11) opens and remains with a black window. Ran *.msi and *.exe for Hypha installation; looked at log. Evidently it is installed now. *.exe give the option to Uninstall Conclusion: My PC cannot use use Hypha. Opinion: I have enough that does work properly without getting a new graphics card just to run NI's so-called "free" instrument.
  17. Take look here. Probably something more up to date and 64-bit for free. Best FREE Convolution Reverb VST Plugins https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2019/03/18/free-convolution-reverb-vst/ I my opinion, I would try the Melda plugin first. I own several of their plugins, plus many of their free ones. They are always high quality and relatively bug free. The developer is always updating the bundle.
  18. @HOOK Lynx originally had a problem with MMCSS on a Lynx E44, where the driver would stop responding when Cakewalk enabled MMCSS. We had a case open with them and it was solved on their end back in Dec 2019, after I sent them a lot of info on this. Are you running the latest driver from them and if so, what problem do you see when MMCSS is enabled in Cakewalk for ASIO? In any case this is exactly why I added the ability to disable it from the host level and no longer default to MMCSS being enabled for ASIO drivers.
  19. I'm sorry, for answering only now. I'm not online daily. I tested installing from the full installer, which didn't solve it. I also noticed, that Cakewalk has another hang time right after stopping transport. It takes 2 to 3 seconds during which the standard windows "busy" cursor is displayed and Cakewalk's GUI unresponsive. I had this behavior a long time ago, when I still had a completely different PC and way older CW version (early 2019 or so). Regarding the plugins, it seems that those involved are either big .vst3 files, or use samples. However, this is only true for some, not for all. While at the same time, some other VST3 with sample access or with big file size don't lead to Cakewalk hanging. It leaves me puzzled, so I will definitely try the early access and report! Thanks!

    Spitfire The Ton

I got the Ton with British Drama Toolkit and eDNA (plus the Orchestral Grand) in 2019. That one was okay.
  21. ok, what defines a good Spitfire bf deal? iirc, many people were disappointed in last year's offering. was somewhat new to Spitfire, I purchased. so when was the most recent "good deal"? 2020? 2019? 2018? . . .
  22. I remember the last NAMM show I attended. While I was waiting to talk with Noel, I was watching him demo the latest "stuff" in CbB to an employee of Avid.

    Where to upload?

I did find this information from the website https://help.songtrust.com/knowledge/who-do-i-need-to-get-permission-from-to-record-and-release-a-cover-song INCLUDING A COVER SONG ON YOUR OWN ALBUM You don’t need a license if you are releasing a cover strictly on streaming platforms. Services like Spotify and Apple Music license songs and pay royalties to publishers as part of The MLC (The Mechanical Licensing Collective) that was launched in 2019. This means that artists releasing covers on those platforms are not responsible for any related royalty payments. If you plan on releasing a cover song as part of a physical and/or downloadable record, you will need a mechanical license. The current statutory rate for mechanical licenses in the US is 9.1 cents per downloaded song or song on a physical album purchase. You can secure this license through Harry Fox Agency's Songfile, Easy Song , or the copyright holder themselves. If you want to cover a work Songtrust currently administers, you can email us directly instead of contacting a third party service. Distributors like CD Baby will usually help you obtain licenses as well. If you want to release two different versions of a cover song (live and studio recordings, for instance) you will need to obtain two separate mechanical licenses.
  24. There are only a handful of musicians as universally loved and respected as Quincy Jones. I remember seeing Q in person, at a NAMM show many years ago. Other celebs had hurried past fans into their limos, but not Q. He took selfies with fans and autographed anything they stuck in front of him, smiling the whole time. Classy dude. Rashida Jones' Grammy-winning biography is on Netflix right now. It's worth checking out. His multiple brushes with death, often triggered by overwork, have made him philosophical about music and life in general. He would be such a cool guy to hang out with, I think.
  25. Yeah, you would think one of those could be set for sustain. "2x 1/4-inch footswitch jacks (software-assignable for sending MIDI commands to recording software (start/stop, punch in/out, etc.)" but I don't know. This was updated in 2019, apparently, compatible with W 10. https://line6.com/software/index.html
