  1. The English issue isn't out yet, but will be coming soon too. With the latest issue of Beat you get two AAS soundbanks of your choice. They give you a voucher which you can redeem on the AAS site where you can then select two soundbanks for free. Also, if you missed the last Beat issue, you can still get Bitwig 8-Track with this issue. And of course, as usual, there's another free Zampler Expansion, FXPlosion II, which offers ambient and FX sounds. Subscribers can download the latest issue at https://www.plugins-samples.com, you get the serials at https://www.serialcenter.de/ It doesn't seem to be available at the Falkemedia shop yet, but certainly won't take long.

There is a 10-band EQ, which is plenty of space to learn for a mixing context. You’ve also got the option of a 30-band EQ, which is diving into the nitty gritty of things. EarQuiz Frequencies is based on the concepts inspired by David Moulton’s Golden Ears and is a fairly informative take on things.

  9. Update to the copyright debacle: After nearly 30 days I got contacted by Landr (who I use to release my music) informing me that the copyright claim is because FUGA is the collection agency they use. This is on the one hand good news because it means it wasn't a random scammer. On the other hand, it's not great because I could find no mention of this partnership on Landr's website when it first happened to me, hence my concern. However, there is now an article on their blog site answering this question posted 19 days ago: https://support.landr.com/hc/en-us/articles/15442436320791-Why-is-FUGA-claiming-my-tracks-on-YouTube I cannot say I'm super pleased to learn about this partnership considering the negative reviews online concerning FUGA, but I guess this is the new norm. Now all I have to do is sit back and watch those pennies roll in. Correction: roll by.

  14. Yes, depends on the amp type and style you are looking for. Amalgam Audio is consistently excellent. Not many others are going to offer one of the grail Marshall JTM50s for example, and they are the only place so far that has a Komet, and the Bartel Roseland is quite responsive. Has some different Two-Rocks, Marshall standards with the SuperBass and SuperLead. The real key is he gets good amps and really knows how to make a high quality capture and I swear he is getting even better at it. Matt Fig has the best Gilmour clean HiWatt platform I've heard ToneJunkie - get on the mailing list ot get the Free vintage AC30 and 65 Deluxe Reverb for free, and then if you time his sales right - it is cheapest place to pickup packs (the Bad Cat 30R, Marshal Astra are my two faves there, but they also have the only commercially available Trainwreck option - though it isn't a Ken Fischer one, and honestly isn't in the same playing field as others I've tried) Jason Sadites makes good captures (his Two-Rock capture is a nice platform as an example) The Studio Rats - I like some of the captures though I wish they offered more "without pedals" in the packs and I like to get the full range of the amp. The Chandler GAC19T is a bit unique - but also one I really wish they dialed in a bunch of AMP only tones instead of adding some "cheap" pedals to the chain. Choptones makes some good captures but I'm not really a fan of how they are organized and they tend not to do the full range of one amp. Worship Tutorials - sometimes the packs are smaller (and darker sounding) than one might expect, but with EQ some can be rather good and surprising. I'm not usually a Bogner fan, but the Goldfinger Superlead is pretty cool. (Gab the AC30 which is free). They run periodic 30% or even 50% off sales, so I wait for that. Some of the packs only have 4 captures in there. Going direct to these retailers frequently has more packs than though the market place. My method is #1 - see if Amalgam has a capture of an amp I want, #2 Look at others to fill in gaps All of these have free tone models (many times from the bigger pack) on ToneNet, so I suggest downloading those - see which ones work for your style and then buy the larger pack that give you a better range of that amp.

  15. I keep forgetting to check my local library's online resources, so thanks for the reminder. I just discovered my library offers something called hoopla which also has movies I can send to my Roku device. Up to 4 items per month. 🙂 Not quite endless, but 4 items per month is a nice perk. Good thing February has an extra day this month. 😉

  23. Personally, I'd just use a noise gate (or alternatively just use a volume automation fade) then add a small amount of reverb so the cut-off doesn't sound so abrupt.

  33. I go with Intel myself, mostly because it's what I know. You can put together a killer system for that amount of money. My system (see specs in sig) can do the tasks you mention without getting anywhere near breaking a sweat, and it's years and processor generations older than what you're going to get today. Heck, I could put together a good system for half of your budget! Do you have an audio interface? If not, that's really the critical component and the first one to decide on.

  34. Beautiful Void Audio is discontinuing some of their libraries and discounting them up to 90%. They require the full version of KONTAKT. I own a number of this developer's libraries and really love his work. I suppose they're best classified as ambient, lush, sound design synth patches. From the developer (posted in a Facebook group I'm in): "I will be discontinuing a few Kontakt libraries after February 29, 2024. Most are discounted for up to 90% until that time! (sorry I'm late on posting this). I've created a dedicated page so you can browse these instruments. They all require the full version of Kontakt - version info is in the product title and the product description: https://www.beautifulvoidaudio.com/soon-to-be-discontinued/ These libraries all use the free photosynthesis engine. My plan is to bring most or all of these libraries back in a dedicated UI and engine, with newer sounds as well. Thanks!"

  39. since you're late to the party - as far as i'm aware, there was never going to be a "free forever" product while the Bandlab folks tried to get the product(s) in shape enough to sell commercially. and the discussion on the new commercial products has been underway for about a year... so either use an old version, or another free/low cost product. i'm on a fixed income but plan on either subscribing when the new Sonar is ready, or i'll use Reaper and suffer in silence. and yes, like any computer thingie, it's an excellent idea to future proof your archives by going to the simpliest model - in this case exporting WAV files, documenting everything, cleaning up, zipping/ etc and storing it across several platforms/disks etc in case you ever need to re-open it and do stuff, or someone finds it and want to resurrect it in ProTools or Studio One... LOL.
