  6. I just want to say thank you to every person who has come here and helped someone else solve their problem. I have come here for many years and there has always been someone who has had the solution to my issue. Thank you to those who don't have to be here but they are, people like scook who helped me in the middle of the night fix an issue so I could keep recording. Guys like Cactus Music Studios, John Vere and Shane_B. This forum and these people are like emergency room personnel there to help in a time of crisis, and if you are recording, and something goes wrong, that is a real crisis. I would rather my house burn down than not be able to get signal coming through a channel. So a huge thank you and hug today to everyone who has helped someone here. 🤗

  10. Exactly the reason why I bought this and as a bonus I get God Mode, UniChannel, bx_subsynth and a big Glitchmachines Sample Pack (don't care much for the rest or already have it). I'm especially happy about bx_subsynth as I've been really dissappointed about the relatively thin sound of Arturia's Pigments and bx_subsynth helps a lot (Also great for sound design in general). This really is a great deal for any future Melda fans FYI, you also get an additional £2.60 back by rating each of the 13 items in this bundle 👌

  12. Intantiating a VST instrument as an insert FX in an audio track is supported in CbB for compatibility with legacy projects that used that architecture before the Synth Rack was implemented, but it's not the preferred method now, and can actually lead to issues such as stuck notes among other things. You can insert a synth in the rack without associated tracks being created either by clicking the + button in the synth rack or by Insert > Soft Synth in the main menu and unchecking the options to create tracks. When an Audio track has a synth output assigned as Input, it becomes a Synth track. Or you can insert an 'Instrument' track which is a combined MIDI an Audio track with an associated synth connecting them. An Instrument behaves like an Audio track and shows mostly Audio controls (other than the Input which is a MIDI port/channel). You can access all the 'hidden' controls of an Instrument track via the MIDI and Audio tabs at the bottom of the Track Inspector. Instrument tracks can help simplify your project. You can convert existing separate MIDI and Synth tracks (one of each) into an Instrument track by right-clicking one of the selected tracks and choosing Make Instrument Track. And, finally, note that it's also possible to create one Instrument track per output of a multitimbral synth. You can read up on all of this in the Ref. Guide.

  17. Unless you've been under a rock, you may have noticed that the Bakers have been on an extended hiatus from this forum since shortly after the last release... and certainly aren't going to extend any effort in creating a patch for this incredibly minor inconvenience. Don't sweat the small stuff.

  18. Yep. Very grateful for what I have, but I have allowed some of my skills to get rusty. I was fixing my cup of coffee this morning and thinking about working on my guitars, and doing this and that to a few of them. But then said, I should just go up there and start playing, cause it doesn't make sense to fix something I can't play. So I came and sat down, drank my coffee and started looking at this dang forum!! I am going play now.

  20. I have been so conflicted about the role The DAW has played in my musical life . Overall it's nice to have a DAW but The DAW been such a major time suck with me trying to catch up and crest multiple learning curves that seem to change every time a DAW has a major version upgrade . On many levels this BS does not help my music . How would you like it if I took your guitar and changed the strings to heavy gauge strings just before your performance ? What about me hoping on stage and switching your right handed guitar over to a lefty guitar ? or hows about me taking your rows of keyboards and changing all the notes and sounds from black keys to white keys and all the white key notes and sounds to black keys 😁 Before I got involved in recording with a DAW I had been striving to play my chosen instrument with my feet firmly planted on a pathway to achieving a personal virtuoso level . I used to listen listen listen , play play play and try to emulate the musicians I resonated with . I did my best to copy and learn from them ... I'm not gonna drop any names here ....FWIW it seems like a lifetime ago and Yet I did get a little respect and get taken under a few great players wings 🙂 For the record I am grateful to have a DAW but in the end I wish I hadn't wasted all the time I eventually did dicking around with it .The same goes for social media I'm just not gonna pucker up and get on my knees just to get people to listen too me🙊 I have gone full circle and my guitar playing comes first . I treat The DAW as a beefed up tape recorder and I wont waste my time sitting here trying to look up the horses AZS trying to figure out why my cart is not moving because the horse belongs in front of the cart not behind the cart .... I'm glad I caught this musical performance while having my morning coffee this fine morning .It brought me back to how I feel about musicians that can actually play . I don't care what genre music is in . If it's good it's good . Apparently these 2 don't need a whole bunch of cwap to sound good . 😉 Updated link to the video since CBS made it private ... https://www.cbsnews.com/video/saturday-sessions-billy-strings-and-chris-thile-perform-wild-bill-jones/#x Kenny

  21. The website with all those dB readings is great. https://dr.loudness-war.info/ I got a lot of CDs as they first came out back in the day. Before the loudness wars began. I have the original CD of Brothers In Arms. Mobile Fidelity by far wins the dynamic range war for the good side. If you are Moody Blues fan, without doubt the best version of Days Of Future Passed is the Mobile Fidelity version. It's like you're sitting right there live. A Night At The Opera, Dark Side Of The Moon. Absolutely beautiful to listen to from Mobile Fidelity CD. I'm a little torn on this topic though. For example, I hear things in the background in all the current Beatles releases I never heard before. I don't know if that's a result of the compression or remix. The trick at home is to tame spikes so you don't over trigger compression while still maintaining some kind of dynamic range. It's taken me many years on a DAW to fully get an understanding of that and get a grasp on it. It just seemed to be a lot easier and almost a non-issue with analog. I have YouTube Music. Some albums are significantly softer than others. I listened to The Wall yesterday and I was constantly raising and lowering the level. So I'm assuming they do not compress the music for streaming, but I don't know. Another thing I like about YTM is there are no gaps between songs if you are streaming a full album, but you can skip around tracks. IOW it appears they don't just rip the albums to mp3s with gaps. I also have it set to stream in high quality. It sounds really good to me. I haven't picked up on any compression artifacts, but I haven't listened to anything on a good home system yet. Just in the truck and TV. I can hear compression artifacts sometimes when I listen to XM in the truck. My truck has a really good Bose system with a sub and it sounds almost as good as my home system.

It's faded from the request pool now, but in past decades I'd get a request to do this a few times per night. Originally done by Jimmy 'Night Train' Forrest, but this is the version I played.)

  29. Yes, that makes sense. You might want to go into the Registry and remove that virtual ASIO device for good measure. Just delete the FL Studio folder under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO There is no risk associated with doing this; I do it all the time for Realtek and other apps that add these bogus drivers, but if you're concerned, you can export the registry key before making changes.
    1 point
  30. Yes that’s the first thing to check after setting up a new audio interface. Check all the audio settings and make sure only the interface is the device showing. FL is what we call an invasive driver which is installed with software. magix and Steinberg also do this. You remove them in the RegEdit app under software ASIO.

  34. Yes. My other electric is a custom built Strat. It needs better Pups because it’s to clean an quiet. I take it to gigs as a spare and on some recordings when I need the Quack. I sold off a lot of my guitar collection a few years ago. Most were pretty worn out. I mostly want them for recording and G&L covers all my favourite sounds.
    1 point
  35. The guy who I traded said he didn’t like the sound of the G&L. I think it’s called a Astat. Made in Korea? I’m not at home so forget. It had 2 soap bar giant single coils. They are super noisy around my computer. So I found some soap bar humbuckers but I had to router the holes a little bigger. They were quiet but I didn’t like the sound I got. Not a Tele and not even close to a Gibson. Then I noticed the string spacing was wrong. Turns out why I like this guitar is it was designed with finger picking in mind and it is wider at the bridge but about 1/4”. So those replacements were wrong spacing. So I put the original back in at the bridge and a Jeff Beck Seymour Duncan at the neck. Sort of the opposite of your Strat. I coil tapped the Humbucker. So this gives me 5 sounds all good ones now. Oh and thanks for the PM

  40. Even if the Bakers thought it would be out by now and it isn't, this likely means that they are being careful that the product is really ready for release, and it is fair that the popup indicates that it is not far off from now. So, I would rather they be a little patient on the release and feel good about it, rather than have it come out and too many people criticize it. If it comes out in April or May, no one is going to say - Oh it is great but I am not happy because it did not come out earlier. But if it is half-baked (pun intended), there will be a lot of criticism. We waited this long and we have had the advantage of a free product, so I think we should give them some slack here.

  44. Deep Purple's Getting Tighter - 2010 remaster vs original. They killed the groove - and that groove was what the song was all about. I watch a lot of music related content on YouTube these days, so of course I get the targeted ads. And essentially, what they are advertising are products and libraries designed to get that sound you're familiar with - and that will make you sound just like everyone else. I cringe every time one of those ads start and I hear those libraries. Back in the days, I read about the making of Nine Inch Nails The Fragile in Keyboard magazine. Trent Reznor had hired a guy (Keith Hillerbrand from memory) to create a huge library of weird, unique sounds for him to use, just for that album. To me, the making of that record always represented everything that was fantastic about DAWs and working with computers. But there are also a lot of opportunities to remove almost every variable from the equation, thereby compromising the chances of creating something original. And it seems that a lot of people aren't making music for the love of art, so they're quite content to just assemble songs. It's their take on the same basic idea. If you spend 5 minutes on social media, it's quite obvious that most people only want to have their turn in the spotlight doing the same thing as everyone else. I remember recording demos with nothing but my guitars, a little Marshall transistor combo, an Akai XR10, a tube distortion, a wah pedal, and a Boss flanger. And the delay on my Sony reel machine. A lot of the things I had in mind like mellotron parts, a Hammond, or horns were simply impossible, so I would have to create something that had vaguely similar sonic qualities using what I had. In many ways, it often made the songs more interesting. It's something I try not to let go of, even now that I have access to all those instrument libraries.
