  1. Whenever I see/hear the word beats in any article/video that has a musical context I immediately lose interest. Is it just me?

  7. The Zombies. Yeh, those guys show their age on their faces, but they've still got chops. And it wasn't just a case of playing the same songs for 50 years and getting them down (see Doobie Brothers) because they included novel arrangements and extended jams.

  9. I could not agree more! I would go so far as to say it's the most amazing music program I have found in the last few years and it's just in it's infancy. The SynthV voices are already realistic enough to fool most casual listeners, but the voices are going to get more sophisticated, more stylized, and I think they will slowly infiltrate modern music production as a standard tool.

  10. Instagram Buffoon: Are you a beatmaker? Me: Actually, I've studied classical music, I've dabbled with traditional jazz as well as traditional music from many cultures, I can read and write charts, I play an actual instrument - even a few of them. I have, on multiple occasions, played music and sang live on stage. I also like to amuse myself by indulging in rudimentary sound design and, yes, I sometimes "make beats". But since I do not require a laptop to make music, I believe the proper term would be "musician".

  14. Neutron should be in any debate of best channel strips. It just gets omitted a lot because: 1) it doesn't look like or emulate any one classic channel strip 2) People get caught up in AI aspect and forget that you can use it 100% without using AI. The user interface is far more functional than using mouse to get frustrated with a bunch if round knobs. Each individual component is damn good on it's own and despite not emulating any one product, does a good job of providing the functionality of those products minus the exact colorization ( something most emulations fall short on). With that said, it's not my favorite, but when I do use it, I find myself wondering why I don't use it more

  16. In late December 2022 I had to do something I really hated doing but it had to be done. My best friend of 38 years who I loved deeply and whom I had known for 45 years needed a level of help and care that I could no longer provide. It may feel/sound a little like a dirge but it is short less than three minutes. I do appreciate you listening if you do. Toys used in it making Sad Days. Cherry Audio Elka-X, Sines, GX 80, Miniverse Roland Cloud D-50 FX Boz Digitals +10Db Compressor Moog MoogerFooger MF-1085 Clusterflux, MF-1045 Delay x 2 Overloud Breverb All Other FX stock Cakewalk or from its S-Plat days. The audio tracks have issues but keeping as is, here's a new 0 fader remix (my sub died so hopefully it translates...no real video, just a little lava lamp action background for use YT release) Once again CbB worked well on this 16b project made pre Sonar 6? ...props to the bakers..hope you enjoy

  23. Pretty sure it's not Legal what Waves wants to do. How is it Legal to change the policy -AFTER- the customers did their purchases? Folks have bought (multiple) licenses through the years for different purposes, like WUP or Extra PC's, or to work with friends/musicians for future projects or whatever reason they had. Waves also gave licenses away with paid (audio)magazines in the past. So one way or another, the customer have paid for it. I was not aware of this when I purchased their licenses or even participated in their own (Black Friday) giveaways. It was nowhere indicated that it had to be registered before March 26 2023 when i purchased and recieved the licenses. They changed their policy > AFTERWARDS < wich is a very scammy thing to do if we lose our past purchased licenses. It would be a different story if Waves has said: ''Hi, we changed our policy, and licenses that are bought >AFTER< March 26, 2023 should be redeemed within 14 days of purchase from now on. All licenses that are purchased >BEFORE< 26 March 2023 will not be affected by our new policy.'' As it looks, this new policy is effecting >PAST< sales, wich feels unfair to me since we were not aware of it on date of purchase. Alot of people will probably not even know this on time also, and they will be screwed by losing their licenses. If this is really happening, i would never buy or even touch Waves products again. I will simply not support companies who change their ''policy'' afterwards when they collected their money and decided to screw their customers.

  26. Elton John. Saw him in Baton Rouge several years ago. Right before covid hit. Excellent show. He put on a rocking performance. It was his original guitar player and drummer along with him. Saw Stevie Nicks (Christmas present to my wife) at the Woodlands, north of Houston. Ole girl can rock. I'll give her that. Waddy's playing wasn't impressive at all. But Carlos Rios was very impressive. Clean, clear, nice licks. Great guitarist. Bass player was really good too. But I couldn't find any info on him. Benmont Tench was great too!! Actually her whole band was excellent except Waddy. Side note: if you've never seen a Stevie Nicks concert you have no idea how much her fans REALLY LOVE her!!! LOL! It's just unbelievable!! Saw Fleetwood Mac when Mike Campbell was with them. He really did well. He held true to the spirit of the songs, but definitely had his style on them. I did not miss Lindsey. So glad I was able to see Christina perform. Her voice I love!! Saw Coheed and Cambria with my son a few years back. Man they f'n rocked!! Whole crowd was totally into it. Singing every word to every song!! And I was singing right along with 'em! Felt like I was 18 again!!

  27. I think I will look into this, I hope it will be useful sketching out vocal parts as guide for a singer. One singer I work with just needs a lead sheet to pretty much nail the vocal but the other needs a lot more guidance.

  28. Yes, there will be a Control Bar module with a picture of a drum and a button with a $ sign (€, £, ¥, etc. depending on localized version). The module will include an algorithm that will check your beat for freshness against a vast database. I make EDM and I cringe when I see (and especially) hear it. Probably because of having endured so many pinhead poseurs in the past quarter century saying “I make beats (“yo” optional).” I do understand that the term “producer” has now shifted closer to its literal meaning, which is amusing because you can now hear geezers saying things like “he says he’s a ‘producer,’ what does THAT mean?” As if they understood what it used to mean. At least today’s “producers” actually intend to produce music. When I “produced” a single for my friends’ band 35 years ago, I mostly sat in the control room and mediated disputes. A valuable role, no doubt. “3rd party who makes creative suggestions/decisions and otherwise facilitates creation of a recorded work?” I guess that was it. I’m not even sure what “beats” are in this context. A percussion and bass pattern? A loop that only has percussion and bass? How many measures do you need to have before a “beat” is ready for market? Is it the minimal bass and percussion beds that people rap over? I come up with a (drum part, bass part) beat for every song (except for the ambient drone pieces), often before I come up with anything else. It’s hard to imagine stopping at that point, deciding that I was done and that it was ready for consumption by anyone, but I guess I’m not widely enough versed in modern techniques at this point.

  32. Mötley Crüe. It was a negative impression, but an impression nonetheless. Not that I was expecting any different. Except Mick Mars. He was cool. More seriously, The Cure in Montreal in 2008. They played for almost 3 hours. Robert Smith doesn't look like the healthiest person on earth but he really surpised me, especially when he put the guitar down for some songs and ran around on stage. I realize that 2008 is not that recent. But I'm old and I don't go out often.

  38. Yeah... to be fair though, upgrade offers can go pretty low if you wait for the right time and shop at the right place. They're also fairly generous with their upgrade grace periods. They're just not that great if you look at the loyalty coupons when logged in - they even offer to sell me upgrades to products I already have. 🤪 I'm just thankful their DSP coding is better than their loyalty sales detection algorithms.

  40. Thanks for posting. While downloading the presets you mentioned above, I discovered others that I didn't know about. Currently I use Soundtoys' plugins only to load factory presets. The GUIs are so small that I don't even bother to tweak them . I really wish they'd give us resizable GUIs!

  45. We play quite a few songs on the gig a little faster than the tempo on the record. It adds energy. Of course, that depends on the song and what we think our audience would react positively to. But 50%. No way. I can't spit out the words that fast. Many years ago when I was in a band that opened in concert for the "star" band, I noticed that they played many of their songs faster than they did on the record, so I just figured it was the right thing to do. We learn from the masters. Notes ♫
