  4. Thanks i just got an audient id4. Ach…i don’t know. I’ve got my hot rod deluxe and my ac30 and all the pedals I could wish for. Guess I’m fine with the sims I have really. I’ll spend the €80 on something for the kids. They were actually sat in front of my computer for 3 hours straight making a song in reason. They didn’t know what they were doing and managed to completely fck up a couple of Softube plugins but I’d rather than than have them watch tic-toc all day

  5. I've long since thought that any part of the CW experience that bandlab people actually have a hand in is dreadful. Bandlab assistant was the start of that feeling. I can't recall a single occasion where it just worked. Next they "improved" the forum (!) and as for Sonar's old name with new make up relaunch......something about an inability to organise a social event in a brewery is mostly what springs to mind.

  6. So....every other month it drops down to $69? SampleTank 5 must be on its way soon. It's a great package, I snagged it for $49 using Jam Points, direct from IK. Yes, it includes a lot of duplicate stuff you don't need, but that's because it covers so much ground. You don't have to install everything. SampleTron 2 and Syntronik 2 alone are worth the ticket price. Miroslav Philharmonik 2 is also of value to anyone who wants to get started with orchestral stuff. A buddy of mine snagged it just to get Neil Peart Drums. Miroslav was the primary target for me, but the hidden gem was SampleTron. If you've ever wanted to play around with the oddball libraries that most 'tron clones omit, they're here, lo-fi sfx and all. Also, to my delight, a vast Optigan library, including some great lo-fi loops.

  7. It's Sunday morning for the rest of the world, but Friday night for me. Meaning I get to relax, listen to music and look up stuff on YouTube. I am embarrassed to admit I'd never heard Lenny Breau before now. But I'm even more embarrassed to have referred to myself as a guitarist...

  8. I am sick of chasing tones. All of this innovation has given me option paralysis. I've found myself going back to Scuffham S-Gear for anything that doesn't require high gain. Gets me back to music and out of the software race. And I've got just about every amp sim under the sun. YMMV.

  9. I’ve been avoiding Tonex. I have AmpliTube and every single one of the the other million amp sims out there. I don’t really understand Tonex to be honest. I also don’t understand the different versions. I read someone in a forum saying he regretted buying Max as it didn’t really offer him much more than what he got in SE. I know there’s obviously different captures but as I said I don’t understand it. Not sure I really understand the whole capture thing when it comes to it. I’ll probably buy Tonex Max anyway if it goes on sale for €79.99 again. (Which it undoubtedly will).

  10. For lunch, I'm going to have a grilled cheese sandwich. Two slices of seeded bread. Inside a thick slice of Danish Havarti, another thick slice of Irish Kerrygold Dubliner, and a bit of crumbled bacon (optional). Heated in a pan with a generous amount of Finlandia butter until browned, and then served with a fried egg on top and some pancake syrup. Plus a glass of California Cabernet Sauvignon wine on the side. Sometimes instead of the bacon inside, some fresh strawberries on the side is nice. Mrs. Notes invented these, and IMO it's the best grilled cheese sandwich, ever. For us, the cheese is better if it's whole milk cheese. We shy away from part-skim cheese. The flavor is in the fat. Also, the cheese should be from A2 cows. How to tell? If she eats it and gets black eyes the next day, it's A1. That excludes most USA cheeses. I've read A1 cows give more milk. But one of the amino acids has a mutation, instead of it being a proline it's a histidine. That turns into histamine, which you need an antihistamine to combat. At least that's the way I understand it. I also read that one of the few bulls imported to the “new world” had the mutation, but the cows it sired gave more milk, so the lucky bull got to breed with a lot of cows. So did its descendants. What I do know for sure, is she has a sensitivity to A1 milk, so we avoid that. Notes ♫

  11. Thanks for the comments and listening to the various amendments. What brought this together so well was Mark and I are not afraid of being honest with each other in a nice way! 🙂 First of all the song in itself is fantastic and recorded really well. The added cello part helped a lot and some edits on vocal compression. On the mastering theme this was quite a difficult challenge as there was so many ways this song could go. Percussion was the hardest part for me as there are a lot of similar frequencies which needed to be separated to keep the dynamics and width of the song. Also trying to keep some form of bottom end with out making it muddy and over crowded. I have learnt a lot. It helps that I also really like Marks style too. 🙂 Loved the challenge and looking forward to the next one.

  12. @mark skinner @garybrun Guys, this just sounds excellent ! , vocals are clear, mix is smooth to listen to . . . a well written song (and the awesome guitar work captured perfectly) . . . I've heard all the mixes, as it went along, and where you got to is simply amazing . . . congratulations !

  14. I found this out when comparing an older mix done thru a Behringer interface and a new mix done thru a Mackie Onyx. The Behringer sounded better to me and there was no way to make the Onyx sound the same. At least in the same price group it's all subjective I guess.

  18. If I'm understanding the information on the PreSonus forum's Studio One 6.6 thread correctly, the 6.6 update more strictly enforces the standards for VST3, which caused problems for a few 3rd party plugins that did not follow the VST3 standards closely enough. So far, PreSonus is taking the stance that it is up to the affected 3rd parties to bring their VST3 plugins up to the standards. I believe at least two of them have already issued updates to their plugins which enable them to work as expected with S1 6.6.

  20. 😲 So in effect, right now you can get a (non-upgradeable) perpetual license for Studio One Pro 6.6 for $134. And that license comes with a year's access to all of the Studio One+ content and services. And I had thought I did pretty well to upgrade my free-with-interface Studio One 4 Artist license to 6 Artist for $49. With Sonar not yet fully released, this is THE deal in DAW's at the moment.

  21. The Studio One 6 perpetual license that you bought grants you every update until SO7 comes out, so no worries there for you. When 7 comes out you can decide to buy a perpetual license upgrade (which will again grant you every update until SO8) OR subscribe to Studio One+ Hybrid for 1 year (which will additionally give you access to things like that new synth while you are subbed) and at the end of the sub you will get a perpetual license of the studio one version that is out at the time.

  22. The only way to do that would be to have purchased and registered a SN for a version from X1[2,3] through Platinum. You can still log into the legacy servers to DL the installers and then enter your SN to activate without calling home periodically. Otherwise... you are SoL. But considering the massive improvements in function of CbB/Sonar since those days, I personally would never go back to using an antique.

  24. Great, detailed modelling, loads of ready to go profiles. Really an outstanding piece of software. But the profiling process is too slow and can occasionally stall, requiring another attempt with from scratch, which includes setting up routing and filling the preset form with information, etc. Profiling a little pedal (with my favorite settings) took me almost three days. I haven't tried profiling with AA Snapshot Maker, but the player is indeed very CPU efficient.

  25. I was just listening on my phone and I love the tone on those drums. Session Drummer? Isn't that the plugin from Cakewalk? I remember Platinum Samples making libraries for BFD 3. I didn't get them because I don't have BFD 3, but the demos sounded excellent and they were made by some legends. I'm intrigued.

  28. I gave up trying to write songs. Why? I'm not very good at it (OK, I suck at it). Every lyric I've ever written has sound either blatantly ripped off from someone else, or simply too trite and terrible. Perhaps because I really don't listen to the words much when I listen to music. The lyrics are the last thing. Until then, they are just articulations, with no meaning by the soloist. How do they work with the chords? How are the countermelody and rhythm instruments supporting the melody? How are the bassist and percussionist working together? And there are so many other things, both big and nuanced little things, to analyze about what makes this song that I like work. After I digest the music completely, I'll listen to the words, and then decide if the music is supporting the mood of the song. Even then, I'm paying more attention to the expressive nuances of the vocalist. How is he/she treating that note, bending it? Changing the dynamics? Adding ornaments? And how is he/she phrasing the lines. How can I apply what I like about that to my sax, wind synth, or guitar solos. Then how is this all put together to make the whole thing work. Perhaps that is one of the reasons I became a live player. But not the only one. I've never had stage fright, and really enjoy performing. Plus, I really like playing the music. I like being in the place where there is no space, no time, no me, just the music feeling like it's flowing through me, instead of from me, and feeling the energy coming back from the audience. It's the most fun I can have with my clothes on. Insights and incites by Notes ♫

  37. At first glance, the cheese selection down here was a little underwhelming to say the least. That's compared to Québec. France would be a whole other level. But I've managed to find some decent ones. Asking mayonnaise instead of ketchup with French fries can also provoke reactions ranging from curiosity to mild annoyance to exasperation and disgust. And for some reason, dijon mustard is frowned upon - especially by people who use the word patriot a lot. Those folks would probably have a heart attack if they heard of dijonnaise. One of the hardest adjustments to make was to learn to properly mispronounce "croissant". I really wish they would call it "crescent" and make everyone's life easier. Other than that, I agree with Bob concerning people being mostly nice, with a sprinkling of jerks. And of course, there's the herd effect, which is universal, so even nice people can easily be manipulated into being complete *****holes, no matter the nationality. I always remember my few months in Russia very fondly because of the people, and how friendly they were. I also had some of the very best meals of my life there - which was a surprise. I went there expecting 3 months of potato soup, potato ice cream, potato bread... How wrong I was! I still miss the food. If I judged the country by the political circumstances when I was there, with the tanks on the streets and military personnel everywhere on election night, my opinion might be a tad different. Not to mention historical events and the current situation. But the people? They were great, and would go out of their way to assist and speak a few words of English.

  40. I guess my request for more info got lost, but I picked up on that. For me, it's usually the headphones that are more revealing, but I guess you have some very revealing monitors. Of course check the silly stuff like tone controls on the monitors if they're active. Don't ask how I know this, but it's possible to accidentally adjust them when moving the monitors around or giving them an experimental tweak and then getting distracted and forgetting to put it back. Mixing-wise, when I get certain frequencies poking out (with vox it's usually in the nasal regions), I use the sweep method to home in on them and then cut that frequency.

  41. French Brie, English Cheddar, Italian Scamorza, Dutch Gouda, Swiss Gruyère, and so on, Mrs. Notes and I usually buy European or Australian cheese. Why? She has a reaction to A1 milk products, and most USA cheese is A1. Most of European and Australian is from A2 milk. There are good cheeses in the USA. I've been to Europe, Spain, Italy, Gibraltar, Netherlands, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, and England/Scotland/Wales (which aren't really in Europe). I enjoyed my visits very much, I enjoyed the Europeans and the food, too. My opinion of the Europeans? Same as everywhere else I've traveled, mostly populated by nice people, but sadly, infiltrated by a few jerks. I've also been to all 50 USA states, plus 4 US territories, and enjoyed my visits, the people, and the food here, too. I've done Asia, Africa, and the Americas/Caribbean, as well. Of all the places I've been to, there are only three I'd like to live in, the USA, Spain, and Australia. Of all the places I've visited, I enjoyed them all. From Jamaica to China, to Austria, to Florida, to Alaska, to Australia, to Hawaii, to Labrador, to Moscow, most people are just trying to live a happy life, and make the world a decent place for their children. And most governments are servants of the greedy, rich, and powerful. I think it has always been that way, the only thing that changes are the details and the technology. Notes ♫
