  1. Hello everyone -- my name is Steve... I have been lurking on this forum for at least a couple of years, but never posted. So I would like to use my first post to remark on what I think is the obvious fact that this song you just posted is AMAZING! It doesn't sound sloppy to me; it sounds like a real band playing a real song. It sounds organic. I love it. The guitar parts sound to me like real guitars. I haven't decided whether to jump into this GB... even at 60% off, its a little pricey for what I like to spend on music toys. But this is a great testament to the OTS libraries and has definitely increased the temptation factor.

  2. Against my better judgment I was going to purchase the SSRC because it's only $7 with the jampoints discount. During the checkout I got an error I've never seen before: "The following billing fields are missing or invalid: zip code." Everything was entered correctly, so I cleared the browser cache and tried again. Same error. I tried two other browsers and repeatedly got the same error. I finally accepted this as Divine Intervention telling me, "You know, you really shouldn't be paying for this."

  3. We just passed 1250 participants, reaching the 55% off tier! Another freebie was unlocked, too, which you can download from the group buy page in your account. The download link is toward the bottom of the page, next to the discount tier text. Now about that freebie... One thing that's missing from most guitar sample libraries is the interaction that happens between the guitar and amp. With the amp cranked, the volume from the speakers causes the strings to sympathetically resonate, resulting in a feedback loop. That sound of feedback is one of the things that makes our Evolution Infinity electric guitar so fun to play, even though what you're hearing is the sound of the sustainer pickup and not really feedback from an amp. For this freebie, I sampled an electric guitar through a Carvin Legacy amp (100 watts of tubes) while standing in front of a Marshall 4x12 cab. The isolated feedback samples were recorded from the guitar's direct output, so the Kontakt instrument is designed to be layered with another guitar sample library by setting both to the same MIDI channel. Then you can run the combined signal of both instruments through a guitar effects plugin for the final sound. Unfortunately you can't run one Kontakt instrument's audio output into another Kontakt instrument's effects chain, otherwise you could run it through the same built-in effects in the Evolution guitars... We'll probably integrate feedback like this directly into the Evolution guitars in the future, though. Enjoy!

  4. @Max Arwood DISCLOSURE: I've consulted to Orange Tree Samples and I'm friends with Greg, but I'm a super user of guitar sample libraries and have been since the 1980s -- probably before Greg was born! I am an Orange Tree Samples superfan. I also own a TON of other sample libraries from other developers and I've consulted to a few other guitar sample library developers, but stopped years ago. In my honest opinion, Orange Tree Samples innovated in this space and continue to produce the most realistic sounding and playable (basically the most meticulously sampled and ingeniously scripted) guitar sample libraries on the market. Privately, more than one other developer who makes guitar sample libraries has acknowledged this to me and a couple have told me that they reverse engineered Evolution libraries to make their competitive libraries. My own background, I was a semi-pro rock musician in the 80s-90s. Piano is my first instrument, but I played drums semi-professionally for two decades before having a repetitive stress injury that stopped me from playing professionally. I only recently started recording music again as a hobbyist -- largely covers and songs I wrote decades ago (like the one below) -- spanning rock, acoustic/folk rock, indie rock and instrumentals. Here's what I tend to use as my go to instruments that I would recommend to you: Bass Guitar: Evolution Flatround or Roundwound Bass Electric Guitar: Evolution Rock Standard -- but also check out Evolution Stratosphere if you prefer the tone of a Strat. I use that a lot too. Acoustic Guitar: Evolution Songwriter, Evolution Steel String Electric Piano: Famous E In the below recording, I used one of the Evolution acoustic guitars for rhythm guitar -- I think it was Evolution Relic, Songwriter or Steel Strings. I used Evolution Rock Standard and Evolution Stratosphere for the electric guitars. I believe that the bass is Evolution Roundwound Bass. The slide guitar is Orange Tree Samples' Acoustic Slide Guitar for the main guitar riff in the verse leading up to the chorus. I only used the presets that come with the libraries and didn't add additional guitar or bass amp or other effects. I recorded this after 20+ years of not playing and with serious tendonitis, so I am by no means an impressive musician anymore, I'm sloppy as heck and I was never a lead singer, as you can easily tell, but I think the OTS instruments sound really good, even in my hands -- and I didn't do editing to my playing, it's all as I played it in real-time (again, I realize my playing is very pedestrian and reflects my 20+ years of not practicing and tendonitis, but I think the quality of the guitar sample libraries allowed me to achieve just what I wanted with no fooling around editing midi, which, with my tendonitis, isn't something I want to spend time doing).

  5. Still. These should have been free if one already owns Sunset in T-Racks. I’ve got a slight feeling of someone milking me.

  6. Lots of companies, from Spitfire to Orchestral Tools and beyond, offer excellent free instruments. But IMHO, Heavyocity is doing is doing something new with the Foundations series. They are all part of a series, not a series of one-offs. In each, the sound of the instrument is good, but it works as raw material for the background layer/arps/gates. They are what is commonly called cinematic instruments. And they sound as good as many instruments you pay $50 or more for. And are really fun to play. Folks, I think one of the reasons they are offering us these great free gifts is to get us off our whiny asses and get us to install their installer. That way we can buy all kinds of other Heavyocity stuff. It's not so heavy, brothers! Stop bellyaching and enjoy the goodness! Quick rundown of presets: In-depth from the great @Simeon Amburgey

And just like that, thou gods have spoken and cast shame upon IK and said, thou shall not shafteth thou customers by getting them to pay twice for something they already own.. for if they make them, IK will spend their eternity in the firey pits of hell, only reserved for likes of Waves and other WUP style peddlers 🤭

  12. Oh yeah, been there and done that live! I was looking at Soundpaint Dunescape and East West Forbidden Planet and almost more than halfway through the livestream I realized I had layered them together. 🤣 I subsequently had another livestream where I discovered that Dr. Smith had somehow gotten on board and linked the MIDI tracks together. Thank goodness for those surveillance cameras, money well spent.😎

  13. Produced in CbB but added a few new instruments from the Reason Rack, primarily the first sound you hear which is called "Struck Grand Piano" from the Pangia World Instruments module. My attempt at a story. Inspired by Christopher Cross (Ride Like the Wind) and Steely Dan (Don't Take Me Alive). https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=14451566 🙂John B

  14. And your voice is just fine for that genre. I've heard much, much worse. And really good vocals get too operatic. No, this is just fine. So be encouraged. Don't stop cuz you think your vocals suck. Ignore that voice in your head.

  15. I jumped on 3 items from that list in the OT group buy last year (my first time with OT): Evolution Rock Standard Evolution Songwriter Famous E No regrets! All versatile choices, and I think they sound great! A fine electric guitar, a fine acoustic guitar, and an absolutely stunning Rhodes E piano. Well done OT! Although I haven't attempted anything with them yet as ambitious as what Pavlov just posted...

  17. Here's where I'm at... I still have to get the rest of the SSD's installed, and route and tie the cables, but it's been holding between 50 and 60 c for a while, even under use...so I'm pretty content with that! It's laying on it's side, and will most likely stay that way due to that enormous cooler! No "sideways" pull strain on the MB if it's sitting flat! It will sit upright, but that cooler would put a lot of stress on the MB I believe.

  22. I tried the Heavyocity nylon guitar VI. I downloaded all of them. It sounds pretty good for free. No real issues with the installer over there. Just download, install, and paste the serial in NI and you are done. I dont really see much difference between this and some of the other Kontakt freebies others offer such as Sonic Couture et la.

  26. Yup, my bad. I know where that $203 came from. That's the EZK 3 pack price.😞 That's $46.34 each (for *any* three EZX modules, which can be independently registered any time you want) which beats the sale price at Best Service for named EZXs.

  34. These should definitely be free for owners of Sunset as the full plugin in T-Racks. It's quite laughable to cripple them somewhat, stuff them into Mixbox, throw some presets with them and then charge again.. milking at its finest! For some reason I start reconsidering updates from IK when I see an IK update thread growing from previous experience.. it generally means they either screwed up the installer, introduced some bugs, or shafted people on pricing 🤣 I do like some of their stuff though 🙂

  35. This one is a tricky call. With Modo Drum 1.5, they were offering new drum kits but no new features. So its about $26 per kit. And I am sure if you wait a bit, it will go on sale to make it $10 to $13 per kit which seems quite reasonaable. If you are a heavy MODO Drum user, which I am, its fine. Its a lot less than what XLN or Toontrack charge. For this Mixbox 1.5, it's tricky. They basically selling you a few extra modules and presets. My guess is the modules software is the same thing as you get in SSR so you are paying for the privilege to use it in Mixbox. Where is gets tricky is, they already released other modules in the past as free update. So what makes SSR worthy of charging extra? I too think this should have been free for current SSR owners. 😞 https://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/?item_id=10486

  36. I was referring to the source recordings having a great deal of noise in them -- the noise was baked in -- which a more experienced developer would use something like RX9 to remove. That's quite different than an added effect, and it's pretty easy to discern the difference. The problem was I had two libraries in Cakewalk and I inadvertently was listening to a library I just downloaded from Pianobook. @Simeon Amburgey I just realized when I went back to my machine that I had two piano libraries open and without realizing it, I had the lofi Pianobook library selected that I recently downloaded from Pianobook that had a ton of noise in it. But thanks for chiming in. I'll change my earlier post.

  37. Maybe you have already done so, but I have arranged my case fans so one end of the case is intake, and the other is exhaust, in order to create cross-ventilation for the interior of the case. This method is intended to move any hot air that might accumulate inside of the case, to the outside. It works for me, but then again, I'm not running a blow torch for my CPU! 🤣

  39. EDIT: I had two libraries open and confused a Pianobook lofi piano library with a great deal of noise baked into the samples with this one. This one is well done, as one would expect from Spitfire. My bad. Carry on.

  40. It's been that way since at least 2014. New version comes out in even numbered years in August/September. Everything that has been released officially since the last version was included in the new version of Komplete. Of course they mess around. I was a bit surprised that Arkhis wasn't in Ultimate last time around. Had to wait for the summer to get CE. Sometimes something new will come out at the time of a release that wasn't out before. That's the way it's been, but there have been a lot of changes at NI. What's going to happen with Soundwide? But my fingers are crossed that things will go on this year as in previous ones.

  44. I've been watching these for years after getting the EQ550 as a freebie when it first came out and I picked up another at Audio Plug Deals or another reseller for like $19. Otherwise, I'm afraid they've priced themselves out of my interest. Same with Breverb. I really like(d) the product, but have since moved on because of the pricing...
