I have all of these (Orb Composer/Sundog/ChordPotion/Rapid Composer) you name it, I've bought it. I've spent a lot of time with Rapid Composer. The developer is very responsive and has taken and fixed bug reports pretty much non-stop. The problem of course is that it has had bugs, pretty much non-stop. That said in the last few years it has really grown a lot. While it does have some of the best generators out there, it also is one of the few apps in this class that I don't feel like I'm just driving a random number generator. You really can compose with it and it really can help you do that. But the learning curve is pretty much a brick wall. From the very odd/unique UI that wraps the whole app to some of its crazy ways of working with things -- it's very hard to get to grips with. I figure I maybe understand about 20% of it. Huge sections of it I still have no idea how to use. And I first bought it in Dec 2014. There is a lot more learning material available now which can really help, but even still I think most users are going to find it's almost impossible to get a handle on. My only advice is to try the demo and watch some of the videos. Also download all the user generated phrases/content you can find on KvR. While I think it might offer some big productivity wins if you go all in and use it to make an entire work, I'm still at the using it to generate short (less than 24 measures) bits which I almost always take out of it and put into a more productive DAW. I know I'd get big wins if I did the whole work inside it, but I just can't quite do that full level of project management with it (part of the huge sections I have no idea how to use). I think I have the most fun with it when I just use it as a phrase/chord/melody generator. It might sound like I'm not recommending it, but that's not really the whole truth. I do recommend it very highly but not for everyone. For me it has helped me start thinking about music and music theory in ways I don't think I would have without it.2 points

We want to help make it as easy as possible for you to stay creative so, for those who are in the position to be staying at home during these challenging times, this is a perfect opportunity to add a new plug-in to your production toolbox. Balancer is an audio processor that brings out the best in any source signal. It is designed on the principle that a creative producer’s time is best spent shaping their sound, not getting bogged down in the technicalities. Balancer epitomises that approach, delivering powerful results, fast, with a simple user interface. If you've registered a Focusrite product you can download Balancer free from your account until the 4th May 2020 (16:00 GMT). https://customer.focusrite.com/en/register2 points

I think you can only get the free version on portable devices as I tried first on my PC. Does seem a bit odd though!2 points

This is an awesome deal, by the way. It's worth it for the excellent orchestral percussion library alone. The Orchestral Colors are really great sketching libraries.2 points

Yes it's pretty good Grem but I have too many Reverbs so it doesn't get much use It has some unusual options like Shimmer, Glass, Flow, Bode and Formant which takes it beyond most reverb capabilities for some special fx sounds. I got it for about the same price (£8.95) from PluginBoutique in December 2018.2 points

The Studio Sessions packs are both excellent, and don't forget if you own the full REmatrix that you will have a code in your account (in the serial numbers section) that will get you an extra 20% off REmatrix libraries. An even better bargain 👍 (At the OVERLOUD shop of course)2 points

One of the founders of Spitfire has an upload site called Pianobook that has over 200 free libraries in it. Check it out HERE You will need to register with pianobook. For kicks I downloaded the Steinway by Jon Meyer. Around 500mb zipped . He used some nice mics to make the captures. For a free piano I think it's really nice. Would sit well in a mix. Even captures some pedal noises. This was just one library of over 200....so I haven't scraped the surface yet. Apparently the Kontakt full version is required. Looks like NI have a nice crossgrade path up to K6 from the player version IF you have one of their libraries. I have a bud looking to get K6. Can anyone point me to a very reasonable library he could use to upgrade? I made a short vid of that piano so you could hear it.2 points

Should be able to drag them from BandLab Assistant and drop them into Cakewalk tracks.1 point

I'm debating on this. The pros is there is no shortage on the shelf. Cons are iLok and only on one system. What do I have that does the same thing? I can create effects racks in Live all day. The free product doesn't push you over the edge.1 point
-
I installed it, registered it in the iLok app and then activated it in the iLok app. My Izotope account doesn't show any of my Exponential Audio products, even the ones that came with MPS3. Rocky1 point

Good mic and, very important, a good audio interface. Try recording both ways. One track for acoustic and one track for electric and put tracks in stereo. One on left and one on right1 point

Hopefully they'll add them to our Izotope accounts. It would be nice to get credit for them towards get upgrades. Rocky1 point

I have not lost the desire to write and record music. I'm 67 but in my musical head I'm only 24. The desire is there but the time is not. I still work a full time job and probably will until I keel over or become physical incapacitated. I won't sell any of it as my son (an accomplished musician in his own right) will simply inherit it all (and the account credentials for all the software I own).1 point

It was many years ago that I really spent many hours of intensive effort going through the tutorials and help file, trying to learn Cakewalk. It was quite frustrating, and just was not working out. And I am used to working with very complex software, such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Sadly, virtually all software has suffered from the decline that occurred after computers became commonplace and low cost. Before then, software and hardware vendors made no assumptions about prior knowledge about the subject, and so realized that documentation was key to making their product useful. But, as computers became commonplace, software vendors realized that the price of the software was more important than the user manual, and so skimped on the user manual. And the Internet only made matters worse, because people could go to 3rd parties for support and training. The internet is a great resource (as this forum shows), but it is not an organized training and reference manual. To be fair to Bandlab, I have not really investigated their own recent training materials in any depth. I saw that a lot was copied from early versions of Cakewalk, and simply assumed that it was at the same level as before. But, that assumption may not be correct. I realize that I need to give Bandlab a chance to prove themselves, and need to invest more hours by starting from the beginning with them and go over the stuff I though I may have figured out in the past, because I may be missing some parts of that training. -Joe1 point

Here I will throw in a bit of my own experience. I started using Cakewalk Home Studio about 25 years ago, using so-called "Sound Fonts". I progressed to Cakewalk Professional - 9, got an external synthesizer/sampler, and composed a lot of music with it. It wasn't simple--the external synthesizer/sampler was complicated, and required a lot of integration with Cakewalk. Now, many years later I started to use Cakewalk by Bandlab, and purchased some VST instrument libraries. This was a whole new ballgame, and I could not figure out how to make ANY Midi-generated sound come out of it at all! The voluminous documentation did not help at all. So I started looking at YouTube tutorials. After watching many many videos, I happened upon ONE online tutorial that showed in detail, every single button press needed to work with VST libraries. I carefully wrote all the steps down, and -- it worked! I was back in business. Since then, I explored alternative approaches that somewhat simplified the whole procedure. The point is, that this is complicated software, with a very steep learning curve. It was steep for me, even though I was very familiar with Cakewalk in the pre-VST days. One approach that has been suggested, is to add a new Workspace option that is even more basic than BASIC. But I would suggest, instead, a very simple Quick-Start users guide. Such a guide would show how to go from a brand new installation, step-by-step every single button-press needed to produce Midi-generated music. Also a section on how to record audio from a microphone or guitar.1 point
