  5. Same. UJAM plugins are aimed at younger users who aren't looking to get deep into an instrument. While I'm mostly a preset user, UJAM stuff doesn't let me get as deep as I would like. I'm sure that this is likely the same reason that some users will love them. But compared to KONTAKT or even UVI and some of the better developers with proprietary sample players, UJAM plugins feel like entry-level toys compared to serious tools.

  7. We all have our own preferences and work styles. I realize some may love the same plugins that I'm not crazy about. If it works for you, that's what matters. I was just sharing how I've simply found that the UJAM approach really isn't the best fit for me. I'm interested in loading up samples, making tweaks to those sounds and playing everything from my keyboard or another MIDI controller as opposed to using pre written MIDI patterns or loops, which is where a lot of UJAM functionality is focused. You mentioned Toontrack, and I do like Toontrack stuff a lot -- especially Superior Drummer, but I also have a couple of the ezKeys 1 upright piano sample libraries and I use them a good deal and really like them. Once again though, I don't use pre-written MIDI or loops; I've never even touched that area in ezKeys 1 and Toontrack has clearly put a lot more focus on that area in version 2. But even for my purposes, I've found ezKeys much more to my liking than anything I own from UJAM (I have several of their plugins). Anyhow, that's just my take. Like anything, it reflects my preferences and may be completely different from someone else's opinion. We all have our own preferences, levels of experience and workflows. I just thought I'd share my honest take on UJAM as others, like you, were weighing in. Others here may love UJAM and it may be a great fit for them. There's no right or wrong opinion or need for concensus, it's just opinion. I value that we all have different perspectives and can respect each other's views.

  8. There's an option that allows you to hide VST2 versions of VST3 plugins you have. I actually prefer having both versions because I need to access the old .fxp presets for some synths and effects. I don't remember if that option is in the Plug-in Manager or the main Preferences window, you'll just have to look. It's called something like "Hide related VST2 plugins."

  9. I'd liken the situation to Joe Bonamassa and tube guitar amps. Top-tier modeling/profiling guitar processors sound good and are far more convenient/cost-effective, but purists are always going to choose high-end tube amps. It's the same with Lisa Bella Donna and her analog synths. Been a workstation keyboard user for decades. Have owned most recent makes including Montage 7/8, Kronos 88, K2700, Fantom 7/8 If you're talking about authentic analog sounds... none of those workstations are going to satisfy a purist (Lisa Bella Donna). Montage: Analog type sounds are OK... but the filter and mono voice priority/articulation are not quite right. ie: On Foreigner's "Feels Like The First Time", there's the analog synth melody in the Bridge. Montage can get in the ballpark... but something like the Nord Stage 3/4 VA Synth section gets a whole lot closer. This is partly why I got rid of my Montage 7/8 keyboards (having used them for several years). K2700: UI is horrible. Programming VAST is a "vast" time-consumer. Even a simple mono lead sound is super tedious to program. The digital VAST filters don't sound anything like a Moog/Oberheim/Prophet Filter (compared side-by-side). Portamento on the K2700 isn't smooth like what you'd find on an analog synth (One, Model-D, OB-X8, Prophet-10). It's hard to put into words, but the algorithm is somehow skewed... and just sounds odd/wrong. Nothing like "Ridin' The Storm Out" intro/outro where the pitch-glide is smooth/consistent. I can't believe that got past beta-testing. Kronos: The modeled analog synth engines (~12 years old) still sound pretty-good... But if you compare directly to a OB-8X, Prophet-10, Matriarch, Model-D... you'll likely be disappointed. Kronos' greatest feature is its ability to stream samples directly from disk. If you've ever tried loading your own samples into Kronos, it's fairly tedious. With John Melas' Waveform Editor, it's much easier to get user-samples into Montage. Kronos keyboard action (88 weighted) is one of my favorite. Fantom: The new Roland Fantom series has a great UI... and IMO some of the best sounding digital filters. That said, if you use 3 or 4 partials (loosely the equivalent to an oscillator), you can quickly run out of polyphony and hear obvious voice-stealing. This is when layering sounds... for songs like Here I Go Again (where you've got layers of acoustic piano, electric piano, synth pad, and a vocal type pad). Montage and Kronos can pull more real-world polyphony. Setting up a similar dense 4-part layer on either... you can't hear any voice-stealing. Live, I often have a mic in one hand... and have to play with the other. I need usable Aftertouch to add vibrato/etc. Aftertouch on Fantom series takes massive pressure to initiate. It's more of an on/off switch (not a lot of subtle expression). Getting user-samples into Fantom is slow/tedious. Sold my Fantom 7/8 due to these reasons. Certainly workstations have a lot of useful features that go way beyond the scope of re-issued analog synths. Having owned the One, OB-X8, Prophet-10, Matriarch, etc... it would be nice to see modern appointments to bring these instruments more up-to-date. Higher polyphony, onboard effects, more controllers, more extensive/flexible modulation, larger display, presets, etc. Over several years, I found myself getting more frustrated with Montage acoustic pianos, electric pianos, organs, and analog type synth sounds. Never had an issue with the UI, programming, or convenience. In fact, out of all workstations, Montage (until something else comes out) would still be my first choice. On a lark, I tried a Nord Stage 3 (after seeing Toto), and the Stage 3 was strong in all the areas where I felt Montage was lacking. Never ever thought I'd love using a "Stage Piano". I'm making it sound like Montage is terrible. It's definitely not. I just grew more frustrated with its limitations... over a period of several years. My needs as a player were expanding... At 56, I appreciate that the 88-key Nord keyboards weigh ~40 pounds. I know for sure that I'm not taking out a 60 pound keyboard... no matter what the brand/features/etc. I'm curious to see what Yamaha releases as Montage's successor. IMO, It needs a dedicated VA Synth engine. I'd like to see dedicated Piano, Organ, and Synth engines... each with separate polyphony. Borrow some of what Nord is doing... but take it further.

  12. I took up the offer of a half-price subscription after I cancelled my previous one (which was also half-priced). I must admit I'd missed a trick and not added the PB freebie to my basket. On the other hand, there's been nothing much I've been interested in lately - just another plugin to go uninstalled.

  14. I went back in on a sub in June. At $60 a year (the common 50% off sale price) I might find it worth keeping. So far they have given some nice monthly free exclusive VSTs (Polymax is amazing) and they also entitle you to the PB monthly free-with purchase VST. So- if they keep it up, you are getting up to 24 freebies a year. The Loopcloud utility with Zplane stretching/tempo and Jamahook AI matching works pretty well. I am looking forward trying the newly announced VST tool. Sidenote: Image-Line just announced their own sample store integration into FL Studio 20.2 BETA, FL-CLOUD. Gotta sniff out some more revenue with the upgrade-forever-free DAW. Hope it doesn't get too intrusive.

  15. re F'em - multiple issues I couldn't install F'em with the Tracktion installer - had to go to download folder and manually run installer. Then Cakewalk VST scanner wouldn't recognize VST3 because installer had put it in a folder "F-em (64 bit).vst3" renaming the folder (deleting the extension) is one fix the other is moving the VST3 file and deleting the folder (had to rename it first before I could move VST 3 file). Edit: see my subsequent post below on installing for better detailed instructions. all good now.

  23. If new, another trick specific to the TTS-1/Cakewalk to be aware of is that with no output MIDI device enabled (in Cakewalk preferences), if you open a MIDI file with Cakewalk (right click and "open with" or have Cakewalk set to the default player); Cakewalk will open, add TTS1, and assign the "best match" to each of the tracks (from the normal presets). This is very useful if picking MIDI parts from compositions and/or assigning those to other virtual instruments (can simply reassign the track output from TTS-1 to another instrument available in the project). The drop down at the top of the left side of the Track View defaults to "Custom" and needs to be set to "All" to expose the Channel, Bank, and Preset used (for any instrument). Modifications to those are saved with the project (good for default presets), but as mentioned above will not load TTS-1 User Banks automatically.

  26. Yes - as @David Baay has answered, TTS-1 User Presets are not automatically re-loaded in the plugin itself, or the projects they may be used in. You will have to re-load the saved preset Bank file into TTS-1 every time you close and re-open the project. -I used to have to do that for some tracks I played live, and it was a pain, so eventually I just exported those parts to audio tracks. -At least you can still save part customizations (of any and all 16 parts) - regardless of what some folks say, TTS-1 can actually tweak a lot of its synth & sample playback, & MIDI mapping customizations, etc., but the catch is you can only just save a custom patch as a file, as unfortunately it won't automatically reload the User Bank on the next use of the plugin. - At least in my past, as I experienced the same issue as the OP. -Another glitch in an otherwise robust tool, that Roland probably would have fixed if they had just held on to SONAR long enough. -I wonder, now that Cakewalk may be back into paid support soon, if someone couldn't nicely call up the Japanese programmers to do some small updates. They are probably very nice people, corporate politics aside, and if asked politely, I bet they would be able to help. -Ya never know! We can only hope.

  27. Dissenting opinion from an OLD user 🧐 I really like the first two UJAM Piano players, and suspect I will buy "Score" as well, because I have had a lot of fun with them. Thankfully they do offer a free 30 day trial. I also like some of the guitars and most of the basses. While there are guitar and bass libs for Kontakt ("Session") that let you do a similar kind of MIDI phrase "remixing" like UJAM stuff does, I haven't come across (Kontakt) piano libs that work in a similar way. EZ Keys is great too BTW, but not as easy to just sit and create something cool "live".

  28. The issue you may run into... Sometimes high DPC Latency can be resolved via a driver update/roll-back... or disabling the device (if its driver is monopolizing the CPU). Other times, solving DPC Latency issues requires tweaking BIOS parameters. Many off-the-shelf motherboards don't expose the necessary parameters. In this scenario, there's unfortunately no solution (short of swapping hardware).

  29. SOLVED: By habit I never log on as admin and always use my user account on windows for security purposes. But this is not compatible with LABS. It stores the main files in the admin's account. Even trying to move files to my use account I could NOT get it to work. Re-installing everything in the admin account and just using that account I can now use LABS no problem!!! Thank you all for your help! 😀

  33. Experience? Mostly positive, it usually works as it should. In this case with F'em quickest way to update it is: Delete F'em plugin from your VST3 folder. Update it or reinstall from Tracktion installer (installer will fail if you haven't deleted or renamed plugin) Go into your VST3 folder and rename the new "F-em (64 bit).vst3" folder - get rid of the VST extension so it's just named "F-em (64 bit)" Then run Cakewalk VST scanner, or if you have it set to autoscan you're done. The above assumes you're running Windows. I don't know if this nonsense is happened with the Mac version. Edit: I opened a support ticket with Tracktion on this issue (folder with VST3 name) and also created a post on the Cakewalk Feedback forum about this because this issue should not be tripping up the Cakewalk VST scanner.

  35. I have Session Keys Upright and like it a lot. It's actually two sampled upright pianos and they really did a great job making an easy-to-use interface that lets you go in and adjust the sound at a level far beyond most other piano sample libraries. I love upright pianos and this one is definitely one of my favorite upright piano sample libraries; this and the two uprights I have from Toontrack are my top go-to uprights for rock songs. The below video should give you a good idea. If you like the presets, I think this piano library is well worth having. e-instruments is a very solid developer in my experience.

  38. I don't have that much experience, although I have built my own rudimentory acoustic panels for my home studio, but the problem that you are trying to resolve is not done using acoustic panels. Acoustic panels help in removing echo in a room and achieve a better frequency response. But what you are looking for is sound isolation or soundproofing, which is achieved using different means. For your application, you probably need both since you will be recording and mixing in that room. Of course acoustic panels will offer some minimal soundproofing since they reduce echo and add some mass to the wall. But that is minimal. Here is a little info on soundproofing on YouTube. And https://youtu.be/dCvHilRUP4Q?si=zcpZyhgD83FGd4uh The guy has a great guitar on the thumbnail on this one! 😁

  45. Just like syntronik are sample instruments that did not progress and were losing popularity over time due to the tremendous escalation of kontakt and so many other plugin of higher sound quality and was used professionally in studios, this more than clear that given such low popularity has to be reflected in low prices that more than crazy prices I would say are fair prices before products that are no longer so popular and would have no other way today to be able to sell themselves.

  46. Wdf01000.sys is also linked to automatic network discovery. Even with wifi disabled I am not sure if that is still cycling every 4 seconds or so, but worth shutting off anyway. There are a truckload of processes set to "automatic" on startup. It can be a grueling task to go through all of those, but a fair portion can be either disabled outright, or set to "manual" so they only start when a program using them is run. Some of those reset themselves to automatic again, so those tend to be pests. With a stock Dell, going through the process list would help but is not a quick endeavor.
