  3. The tools have been completely rewritten. All have font support, light and dark styles. Upsample Editor now supports in table edits. VST Inventory has selectable columns. Old Launchpad users make sure to copy "CbB Tools.exe" into the old Launchpad folder. Others may copy the "CbB Tools.exe" where ever they like such as "C:\Program Files\CbB Tools" I will leave the old versions available as the new ones no longer support 32bit SONAR. I added font size selection to a few of my CbB/SONAR utilities. There are updated versions of Launchpad - an alternative to the start screen Plug-in Upsample Editor - a tool to manage upsample data in Aud.ini Tools Editor - a program to manage the tools section of the Utility menu available here along with a few other CbB/SONAR related things. The utilities are about half way down the page. As always, if there are questions or issues with anything on the page just let me know. For best performance, whitelist the "CbB Tools.exe" process in your antivirus software. Inventory Tool really benefits from whitelisting.   4. Have been unable to update since v.2019.05 due to I believe that's when the program went to a Windows10 requirement. So what you're saying is that my Windows 7 machine is essentially locked out from using the version of CwB currently installed on it? Sonar X2 and Platinum continued to function long after they were replaced 😞
  5. The latest default value for the buffer is 200ms, it was change in 2019.12 release... Before that it was 250ms... In the early Sonar days the default buffer was 500ms...
  6. Do you mean Digital Performer? My understanding is that is much more geared to orchestration. I went to NAMM one year and sat in on a demonstration on the latest features of Digital Performer (v11 IIRC). Can you guess what they used in the demonstration? It was *not* EDM, Trap, R&B, Metal, Rock or K-Pop. It was an orchestration.

HIs only critique is that "something" was clipping either on the master bus or before. Other than that he thought the song, production and performances were great. He especially liked the synth melody. I remember when Twelve Tone started the MIDI sequencer (Cakewalk) and would advertise in Modern Musician, Electronic Musician, Mix, and others, and with the introduction of audio editing and Windows 3.0 in '91, stepped up their presence in the trade rags and also at the major trade shows (NAMM & AES). There was still a bit of adverts and show presence, including the time under the Roland umbrella through to the beginning of the Gibson years as "Cakewalk Pro Audio", when Gibson put it on the back shelf to die as SONAR. From about '95 on, there was intense competition from ProTools, Sonic Solutions, and others for market share, and later when PT became native. Add to the mix the plethora of upstarts like Cubase, Nuendo, Studio One, FL, Reaper, et al, and a dwindling desire to market the product, the trade rags (becoming online presence mostly) just forgot about it. Since Bandlab took the reins as a free product, what marketing budget existed outside of forums, word of mouth, and the net, especially when Apple/PT TDM/HD pretty much had the majority market share in the professional realm, and MOBO/CPU's weren't really up to the task of 'unlimited' multitrack sessions until roughly the turn of the century. As for proponents and reviewers, it was out of sight, out of mind pretty much after the Gibson years. And a new paid version of Sonar will have, hopefully, a modicum of marketing budget going forward to increase their market share and improve the product.
  11. ~ Thanks, I really appreciate all the helpful suggestions! ...so I just need to pick a naming convention and stick to it. As each Project is opened, re-name using the new Naming convention and make sure the Folder + Projects + Exported Audio are all the same. like what @Tom Taylor listed, I need to figure out some meaningful shorthand for all this info! The BAND name will tell me what playing style is happening. (Heavy, Classical, Orchestral, Quad Tapping,, etc.) 1) How dangerous would it be to rename Folders and Projects outside of Cakewalk, Would it mess with the linked Audio? Some projects are outside of a folder and there are a few loose "Audio" folders that's one reason I'm trying to get this figured out. The names for the different Tuning is a challenge, open for suggestions. Semantics is an issue Like "KEY" for Legend or symbols not the key of the Song. Capo, with a K makes more sense since "K" is not a musical note, but ...well look up that word. 2) can we use "(6}" or "[8]" in a file and Project name?   13. Someone got me started on this today and did most the of the heavy lifting so I completed the file today by cleaning out the illegal characters and adding Juno Di drum kits to the file. Here is what seems to be a good, working INS file for the Roland Juno DS complete with patches and drum kits.   14. I've been working remotely since 2019. I had done that for a year before moving to the US in 2010-11. A lot of friends reached out when the pandemic hit because they had trouble adjusting to remote work. I couldn't imagine why they had so much difficulty - for me it's the best possible scenario, short of earning a living with music and books. I never have to leave the house except for groceries, once a week. I have my work laptop and display on a file cabinet on wheels, tucked by the side of my desk. Come the weekend, it takes me less than 40 seconds to clock out, close everything and roll that thing out of sight in another room for the next couple of days. Otherwise, it can always be tucked in a corner when I work on music on weekdays.

  16. Craig’s post form another discussion got me thinking about gear that I had to let go of. This was in early 2019. The only thing left are the Les Paul Studio and the Fender Strat. These are the ones that are absolutely irreplaceable. The rest of the gear was mostly just average, inexpensive stuff. The second half of 2019 and 2020 hit pretty hard and I had to let go of a lot of gear and studio stuff, like my Pro Tools mixing surface (Command 8). I do regret having to sell the Marshall, but there was nothing unique about it. I can buy one just like it if I want to. I miss having a bass, but that’s also a simple fix. The acoustic and the Riviera I could not longer play due to the angle at which they put my right shoulder. The black Epiphone Les Paul had something special about it. It was one of those Epi’s which was somehow way better than it should have been considering its price and pedigree. But it’s not entirely irreplaceable, and the white Les Paul covers my needs. But that SGJ on the floor I’ll forever miss. I’d purchased a SG Standard that spring, with better pickups, locking tuners and all the nice stuff, so when hard time hit and I had to let some things go, I figured it would do. And it does sound 10 times better. But the SGJ was just magic. And it had a 50’s rounded neck, which is quite uncommon as far as I know. For some reason, even though it was very light, unlike most other SG’s I’ve played, it also felt extremely solid - that rounded neck may have had a lot to do with it. It was just the best guitar to sit in front of the tv with and just jam and practice. And it relic’ed just by me looking at it. There’s a couple of Marshall I had to let go earlier in my life that I miss, but that SGJ really takes the top spot. I’d probably buy it back for double what I sold it in a heartbeat (which still wouldn't be that bad because I let it go for peanuts,

  21. I agree 100%. It's a true success story in a world where bean counters usually strip what they can from an acquisition, then throw it in the trash. Hopefully other companies will learn something from BandLab's example. You mentioned Studio One...for what it's worth, the Studio One contingent at PreSonus was pretty freaked out when it appeared Cakewalk was headed to extinction. They appreciated that Sonar was its own thing, distinct from Studio One, and respected the effort and programming that went into the software. And they also really sympathized with the user base, because they're musicians and could only imagine what it would be like to have the rug pulled out from under you (hence the serious discount for Cakewalk users who were looking for an alternative at the time). The music industry is very different from a lot of other industries, where something like MIDI - a global cooperative effort among fierce competitors - could never happen. I think there's more "competition" among the users of the DAWs than the manufacturers, who are more likely than not to be hanging out at NAMM after hours. I'd be willing to bet that most companies wish Sonar well - as long as it's not well enough to put them out of business

  24. Hi folks, Like we did last year at NAMM we'd like to showcase a few projects featuring the diverse work that you all do. At the booth, we like to have a playlist of projects that show the breadth of work done by our users with Cakewalk by BandLab. If you would like to have one of your projects considered for our showcase please post a link to the music in this thread with maybe a screenshot of the loaded project if possible. If you have a great sounding project that were produced primarily in CbB and showcases the application please post a link to the music in this thread with a screenshot of the loaded project. An easy way to audition mixes is to publish a mix of your project to BandLab and embed the BandLab link. (click the bandlab icon on the toolbar in the post editor to embed) The ones we picked last year should give you some guidelines on stuff that could work as a demo. NAMM can be noisy! Guidelines: We need a project file for a submission so please don't list songs that you cannot submit as a project file. All projects will be played from a Surface Book 2. We have some pretty heavy projects that play fine on the SB but freezing tracks might be required if the load is too much. Plug-ins. We normally have a suite of all Cakewalk plugins as well as some of the more popular third party plugins installed (Waves, NI, Melodyne, Slate Digital, FabFilter, ..) Please indicate what 3rd party plug-ins are used in every submission. If accepted we'll try and accommodate installing the plugins used if resources are available. We're looking for some diverse material so things like modern electronic music, film scores, jazz, metal, rock, etc are all viable candidates. Project's that showcase heavy use of certain features or production techniques are also viable candidates. e.g vocal comping, multi tracked drums, vocalsync, melodyne, advanced mixing, parallel compression, sidechaining, etc. We can also accommodate video files if the project has a video to accompany it. Video projects are attractive for demos. If you do have a video preferably submit a MPEG file or a format compatible for playback within CbB . The video must be synced to the audio. You must have rights to share the music and may need to sign a release form Accepted projects will need to be uploaded to a shared folder or a download link will need to be provided by you Time is short so we'll need these by end of next week to get prepped.
